Feel free to talk about technical analysis here; post your arguments here and not in the current post.

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

    Logic behind AAPL AH movement?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:24 PM PST

IIRC AAPL was already on a downtrend to roughly 160 or so because of the market and China. That was BEFORE any announcements were made.

Then TC adjusted guidance and AAPL plummeted to 142. Okay, makes sense. The outlook is bad so with the new outlook 160 was too high hence the significant drop.

Now one could say this was an overreaction and APPL could recover a bit maybe 145, whatever, but it basically recovered all the way back to 158 pre earnings report. With the report out, AAPL is up AH back to around 163. HIGHER THAN BEFORE THE BAD NEWS THAT TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE.

    Wait. What???

So AAPL basically hit the guidance (slight beat but very very slight) that was the exact same guidance that DROPPED it from 160 down to 142, but instead it's up to 163? WHAT?

How tf is this actually seen as positive? If anything wouldn't hitting those numbers justify the price AAPL was at after TC originally brought this to light hence 142?

Could someone please help me comprehend what's going on?

Disclosure: I don't own AAPL at all. In fact, I was hoping ER would drop it to sub 140 so I could enter a position.

Which stock screener do you use and why?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:41 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I am currently working on a little side-project since I did not really find a good-looking, mobile-friendly & easy-to-use stock screener in the past and decided to build one myself. Prior to that I was using Excel sheets which was too much work. It would be interesting to hear which apps/websites you currently use for searching new stock ideas and what you like/dislike about them?

If you want to have a look on the prototype I am working on, feel free: https://stockcomparison.pandabearventures.com/stockspotter/nasdaq.html

    Cannabis stocks (US&Canada)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:02 AM PST

So I don't spend a ton of time researching but with the way the laws are going and amount of tax revenue these legalized states are generating in sales I'm wonder if putting a few hundred into these companies would be worth my money. They are fairly cheap stocks right now. Cronos group (CRON), CannaRoyalty Corp (ORHOF) and Liberty Health Sciences (LHSIF). Any advice or what you guys think on these would be appreciated.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:10 PM PST

    Hello,

I have some cash to spare and I'd like to try the stock market. Where do you think I should put my money in? I'm looking for something relatively stable, and I don't really have an immediate need for the funds (i'd expect to sell the stock in about 2 to 5 years). If it matters, I live in the EU.

    Thanks

What is the smartest way to liquidate my E*Trade account?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:10 PM PST

I just got divorced and I will need to liquidate my hobby E*Trade account (unfortunately, have had for almost 20 years). I am not sure if I have found the house that I want yet, but with the recent volatility I am thinking of setting a trailing stop of around 4% to try to lock in some gains as I liquify. Opinions? Better ideas? Thanks in advance.

Do you think AAPL will hit or miss its earnings mark? Why or why not?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:34 AM PST

    Title says all :)

I believe they will hit, because they already lowered their prediction right? So they must have put it at a realistic number

Does a company’s cash on hand affect earnings?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:16 AM PST

If a company changes its payment policy towards contractors from 3 weeks to 3 months to increase the balance on their books ahead of earnings, would that potentially lead to a stock bump?
