I would like to integrate a scheduling calendar on my website. Does anyone have experience with any software that does this and make recommendations?

Edit: It is a tutoring site and the calendar would be a tool for parents to schedule their child's first free appointment. I am using WordPress. Thank you.

[serious] 1 year later, how has Ontario's minimum wage increase affected your business?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 12:16 PM PST

It's been a year since Ontario had a significant increase to minimum wage and one major chain had some huge backlash because of their reaction to it.

From a small business point-of-view, Ontario business owners, how did it affect you? Good and bad? How did you handle the increase in staff wages with your products sold?

I used to work at Yelp. Would anyone be interested in help with their pages? Instagram/Facebook too.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 06:57 PM PST

I just finished doing a crash course with a local pizza shop in my home town and they found it very helpful. In that job, I realized just how little many owners are to the inner workings of Yelp and other social media pages. In hindsight that makes total sense. They're busy running a business!!

I wanted to see if there were any other small business owners that need help with their page? I am thinking of charging a small amount of money for it but I'm open to suggestions.

Starting a parent sole proprietorship, but Co owning website property

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 04:41 AM PST

Long story short: new business (first business). I want to have a parent company that I solely own, which is just a brand that owns a bunch of web properties.

One of my websites is co owned by another individual. The rest are solely owned by me.

We make money through AdSense and affiliate links. The site I have built with him is brand new (pre revenue).

    Questions:

    1) For the co owned website brand, do I just create a second license as a general partnership between my parent company and this individual?

    2) For accounting and tax things, I'm not quite sure what to send these funds. Partially to my parent company business account and partially to an account owned by this individual?

I do not have an office space and I rent my current residence. Can I just rent a po box and register that as my business address? (California, if it matters).

Super newbie question about fulfilling store orders

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 06:09 AM PST

    Hi,

We've only just designed our product, and a friend with a store has expressed interest in stocking it. We're incredibly new to this process, do we invoice for half of the order cost before delivery to ensure we're not out of pocket on manufactoring costs? As much as they are a friend, I want to do things properly.

Also, when a retailer places an order for your product, what is a reasonable amount of time to deliver the product to them in? Part of our product is sourced from abroad, but we could source for this order locally if needed.

    Looking for order management

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 11:38 AM PST

Hello. I'm running a wholesale business with a private labeled product and have 170 stores, plus Amazon that takes orders.

So I'm outgrowing excel manual orders and am looking for something better. I would like something that will allow me to give my customers a back door portal in order to make orders, then I can take those orders and turn them into a purchase order for my supplier. I haven't reached a level yet where I have a ton of stock laying around to directly send to my clients when they make an order with me, which is a problem I need to correct so all of my products are made to order so to speak.

Anyways. I was hoping someone had some advice on what to use to help me manage this.

How Important is Your LLC Name?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 10:39 AM PST

I'm looking to form an LLC for random investments (into companies/short term opportunities, etc.). I was thinking about the name and started to wonder if it really matters what your LLC is called? Should it be short? Should it describe what kind of business you are in? Acronymns ok?
For those who have formed LLCs to conduct multiple types of business on the side, what kind of thought did you put into it and what would you recommend along those lines?

I've been away from the workroom now for 2 weeks, the first in over 12 months and whilst I very hesitant to start with I now dread going back due to the amount of admin and customers that will need to be dealt with - good or bad. I'm looking forward to get creating again though so that's a bonus a think?

Anyone else in the same boat? How do you manage the blues? Are there others who are itching to get back?

Looking at purchasing a turnkey small business and I want to know if there is a way to calculate good faith.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 07:58 PM PST

I'm looking to purchase an established small business off of a couple who are looking to retire after the company I worked at for 11 years was sold last year.

They are asking $120,000 for the business which includes $50,000 in assets and I'm presuming the remaining $70,000 is just good faith (A term I just recently learned).

Is there a formula to calculate what a reasonable fair market value of the good faith would be? Based off of net income vs assets vs asking price? I keep thinking of like dragons den and shows like that and how they evaluate small businesses.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi!

As the title clearly states, we are a free social network for e-commerce looking for companies, expecially small businesses, to participate in our closed beta phase. We have a greater interest in Asian electronics companies with worldwide shipping, but we really accept any honest businesses to open an account with us. You can find more information about us in our website (I'm not sure if I can add the link here due to this subreddit's rules, but you can find us through Google by Wheel of Commerce). If you're interested, just reply to this post.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Is California's LLC tax a minimum tax amount or a fee that's in addition to tax to be paid?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 07:12 PM PST

I just submitted my LLC application a few days ago and, from what I understand, there is an $800 tax that is due 4 months after the LLC is formed and each year thereafter in April. I believe I won't have the issue of paying the $800 back to back because I had submitted it in January which would put me 4 months before April 15th. However, what I am concerned about is when I am taxed this amount, does it mean I have to pay at least $800 a year in taxes? Or is it just an $800 tax fee on top of my taxes for that year? For example, if I made $10,000 this year, and I am taxed at 15%, would I just owe $1,500? Or would I owe $1,500 + $800, totaling at $2,300? If it is in addition to taxes that are to be paid, is it possible to deduct it or get around it somehow? Would filing taxes under the LLC or my name as the sole owner affect this in any way?

Template: Start-up pre-seeding and seeding funding presentation template for your business

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 11:57 AM PST

I made a template for a presentation to make to family and friends to get funding for your business. This wasn't intended to use to present to businesses such as banks, but it could be helpful in those situations, too.

This document (which is far from perfect--any improvements or additions are welcome) can help you to get the ball rolling by creating sufficient trust to get some dollars to get the idea going and then you are one big step closer to figuring out how to get your idea off the ground.

Businesses need capital but most banks will not loan to you or help you get a loan from the SBA without either 1) collateral (house, etc.) or 2) business history. Personal, unsecured loans are another option but most of those lenders won't lend to 1) businesses or 2) people for the purpose of investing--they primarily want to serve someone who needs some cash for a big purchase but doesn't want to go to a bank. These are the LightStreams and SoFis of the world.

Many businesses are started with funds from family and friends. Donald Trump, Jeff Bezos both took loans from their fathers, for example.

I didn't see anything quite like this on the Internet, so I felt motivated to share. Hopefully someone can add to it to make it even better.

    1. Download the template: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VGQ4yk7bbeNlXAA6WDGvSBhlks65WX5W/view?usp=sharing
    2. If you would like the font I used, download "Permanent Marker" here: https://www.fontzillion.com/fonts/font-diner/permanent-marker?utm_source=fontsquirrel.com&utm_medium=matcherator_link&utm_campaign=permanentmarker (mirror: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J5B7Y8rPcNJD5PXCCbRtNYisu48qknzT/view)
    3. Edit it to suit your needs.
    4. Use PDFSam to re-arrange and organize PDFs: https://pdfsam.org/download-pdfsam-basic/
    5. Insert the Exhibits you will need. I inserted a Credit Report, Credit Score, Loan Amortization Schedule, etc. Your needs may be similar but different.
    6. Loan amortization schedule template from Microsoft for your investors: https://templates.office.com/en-us/Loan-amortization-schedule-TM03986974

    Here's what mine looked like:

    https://i.postimg.cc/vmBXdSz8/1.png

    https://i.postimg.cc/5tRg9q7B/2.png

    https://i.postimg.cc/gJLDxXQf/3.png

To capture my credit score to put it into a PDF, I simply just took a screen grab using Windows' Snip tool and then I printed to PDF. My bank doesn't provide it in a PDF format, so I had to be creative. Other than, most other documents can be printed straight to PDF--Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

This is just intended to give you ideas (and hopefully improve upon it, too).

Please feel free to use, improve, and share here or elsewhere.

    Happy funding.

Wave App - Help setting up

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 05:48 PM PST

Hi, I run a small 2 person business and am trying to setup Wave but am finding it strangely complicated.

I link 2 accounts, my Chase Business Checking, Chase Credit Card with 1 subsidiary card (2 cards in total) and an Amex.

So I connected all the cards to the account but I am confused about what to select as the Payment Account for each of the cards as they are creating strange duplicates on the Transactions page.

Should the Chase Credit Card have the Payment Account as the same or should it be the Main Account being the Business Checking.

Sorry ive looked everywhere and none of the sites address this simple step.

Also when I go to the Transactions page there are 2 debits for the same transaction, one from the Credit Card then one for the Business checking. When I set it as a Transfer it creates a transfer Debit but does not affect the Account total.

This also happens when I make a deposit with my Debit Card.

Really strange to me, not intuitive nor logical.

Anyway, any help would be really appreciated

    Best

    J

Contemplating investing in a local small business

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 04:54 PM PST

    TL;DR

I am interested in potentially investing in a local business but I'm not sure if I should and where to start.

    The slightly longer

There is a chef in my area (in the US) that runs his own pizza business (it's not actually pizza, but it's a similar product). Each week, he offers the same three pizzas and then a specialty pizza of the week (e.g., cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and mac and cheese as the specialty). He makes everything from scratch and the pizzas are incredibly delicious. He offers both large ($20) and small ($10) sizes. As far as I know, he sells the pizzas out of his local shop once a week and at a couple of farmer's markets on some other days of the week.

As far as I can tell, the days when the shop isn't open and he's not selling at the farmer's markets, he's actually making the pizzas. A few times I've mentioned to him that I wanted to try some of his past specialty pizzas, and he happily took my order, so he takes orders in advance, guaranteeing any type of pizza a customer would want--as long as there's a week's notice. I haven't yet asked if he will make "custom" pizzas. In other words, if I said I wanted pineapple, ham, and jalapenos on a pizza, I don't know if he'd do that or if it's only the specialty and regular pizzas that are available as a pre-order kind of thing.

I feel like this chef has a great product. He gets relatively busy around the holidays but I think business slows quite a bit during the rest of the year (so especially now). I think that establishing an e-commerce site and marketing and shipping outside of the local area could really help grow this business--and I want part of that. In addition, I think offering a "customize" option on the website where users could choose their pizza toppings/ingredients and build their pizza from a predefined list would be a competitive advantage because no one else is doing that (for this industry--again, not actually pizza). Also, I have degrees in IT and business, so I could establish the website and processes to get things up and running.

This is where I'm looking for some advice. I've never invested in a local business before and I'm not sure it's even a good idea. I know there are plenty of logistics to figure out and along with that, several risks. For example, this chef is on the critical path--so if anything ever happens to him, the entire business is shot. I think that's the biggest risk. There's also a risk of keeping up with demand if this were to take off, but up-to-date inventory numbers and/or imposing item limits on the website could help control and prevent these situations (in the short term).

I have a full-time job and I'm not looking to leave it. So I'm wondering how I might be able to get involved to make some money and help this person expand their business (which is his full-time gig). Again, I'm just looking for some honest feedback if you don't mind sharing your thoughts.

    Thank you!

    Logo creation

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 04:15 PM PST

Starting up a small part time business that should be growing (hopefully) rapidly over 4-6 months and am in need of a good logo. It's simply going to be the last names of 2 partners but I was thinking it should possibly be representative of the industry perhaps?

I have neither creative skills nor a budgeted line item for logo creation and my partner is content with just a "nice looking font".

Any ideas or directions to look into?

Is there a website that has data on buyers of a particular micro category / product?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:13 PM PST

I want to know what gender, age and other attributes of people who buy a certain product. Let's say an amazon product. Is there an easy way to pay for this data? Or get it for free?

Off the top of my head I could make ads on google or facebook and see what the click-through demographic is like.

Need help with a prospective accountant...

    Posted: 06 Jan 2019 02:49 PM PST

I'm looking for an accountant and one that I'm interested in, and after a phone consultation, advised me to document my past transactions on an excel sheet they've provided for me. I'm busy and don't have time to record all these transactions...isn't this something they should be doing for me? I have excel sheets of my transactions that I can provide and I also have invoices...they can go from there. Should I be the one to reconcile my past transactions or should they?
