    Concerned GF

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:12 PM PST

Do Big Four busy season hours make you drastically lose touch with loved ones? This is my first busy season with my boyfriend who is a third year Audit Senior at KPMG looking to make Manager this year. I legitimately get 2 one-word texts from him a day if any and he doesn't call to let me know he's home even if it's super late. I send him motivational quotes in the morning but he doesn't really acknowledge them. This is a drastic change and it's only day 2. Is this normal?

I work as a Tax Analyst in industry and never worked in public accounting so I can't relate.

    Audit Room Snack Idea’s

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 02:56 PM PST

As the title suggests, I'm in charge of getting snacks to fill our audit room for the next 5 weeks. We'll have about 15-20 people there on a consistent basis. Obviously looking for mostly, if not all, non perishable suggestions.

I've asked the team for suggestions via email and so far they've been silent or indecisive. I figure the basics like: granola bars, pop tarts, clementines, assorted chocolate and candy, chips, etc.

Did anyone have something in their audit room that you remember really being a big hit with the group? Team morale is easy to keep high when belly's are full haha.

    Thanks in advance!

What are the rules for recruiting around here?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:04 PM PST

I work for the fed govt. Recently posted an opening and the resumes HR gave back to me after their screening process were absolutely dismal. The position is now closed and it's fair to say I am desperately trying to get some quality applicants when the job opening is reposted. Trying to look for people with large public accounting firm experience, or experience in a particular industry that we focus on. I'm just not sure how far I am allowed to go in soliciting applicants on this sub (posting job description, location, asking for PM, etc).

If your company page in Quickbooks Online won't load, the culprit is likely uBlock Origin.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 11:25 AM PST

I've been dealing with this for over a week now. QBO wouldn't load my company page in Google Chrome unless I launched in incognito mode. I discovered today that the issue was my ad blocker, uBlock Origin. After disabling it for QBO, it loads just fine.

Just wanted to share a tip in case anyone was dealing with a similar issue.

Possibly of losing internships over grades

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 02:48 PM PST

So I signed an offer for a big 4 firm in the summer. They just emailed me, asking for my transcript .

My problem is that I got a C- in intermediate 1 and a C in Tax. I'm freaking out.

    Will I lose my internship?

If they ask about what happened, what should I say? I honestly do not know what to say and i feel like crying. I'm so afraid.

    Critique my resume?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 04:50 PM PST

    Critique my resume?

So I usually just lurk here but I will be applying to summer leadership programs in the next few weeks and would appreciate any advice/opinions you may have for me.

My school required the objective statement (and I know that it sucks) for a specific event and I will change it for the SLP applications or take it off if I can.

    Thanks!

required 30 hrs of accounting courses for CPA

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:28 PM PST

Can my tax research class count towards the 30 hours? Or do I have to take tax research and an additional 30 accounting hours.

Right now I have 27 accounting hours not including the tax research class and i'm worried I might have to take an extra class.

    edit: I'm in Texas

Career Rant Auditor at small firm

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 08:02 PM PST

So I have been at a small firm doing very specialized niche audits. I am not the type of person to complain but I have been here for lets say less than a year. The audits are so specialized they can't transfer well to other areas. This experience is good because it adds to my resume being that I'm at a small firm and it counts for the CPA work experience. Honestly, I can care less for the experience because I know the process of passing all 4 parts can vary depending on the person (first exam in two months away) With that being said, I would like to find another role where my experience is more transferable and I'm already "burnt out" by the work. I can some what say I don't look forward to going to work most days.

    Tips for an Undergrad?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:58 PM PST

What do you wish you would have done during your undergraduate experience that would have set you up for a better career in accounting? Any technical skills or not commonly thought about skills to have? What are the accounting firms fighting to get people to master at this moment? Would you add a minor or another major? Anything?

    Leaving before busy season

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 11:35 AM PST

During the holiday break, I've really come to the realization that public accounting isn't for me. Having to constantly prioritize work over my personal goals and plans is the biggest reason for me. The other one is the lack of any time during the year of a 40 hour week. Every month has felt like a mini busy season. Busy season is busy season. I honestly can't accept staying for another busy seasons for 2 clients (6 months).

After talking to people in industries and jobs I am ultimately interested in, whether staying 6 months or a year, there won't be many dividends (transferability of skills) from that time to the new jobs/industries. Knowing I need to prioritize myself before anything, I just wanted to see if there is anything else I should consider. I also have recently been promoted to a Senior so that has also forced me to think more.

I have been interviewing for other jobs elsewhere (3 places) and should know about offers within the next 1-2 weeks.

Should I just put in my 2 week notice once I hear back from the places or just wait til after busy season to leave on "good terms"?
