Dow plunges nearly 800 points on rising fears of an economic slowdown

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 01:18 PM PST

    its all over folks.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 11:05 AM PST

Stock up on batteries, rice, and whiskey. Whack a fertile mate over the head and drag them into your recession shelter. A dog makes a good source of emergency protein, feed your sickly children to the healthy ones. The sky is falling.

No really though, Im very skeptical that were going to get that christmas rally.

What does everyone think ? We gonna get a christmas rally, or is the fear from inverting yield curves going to put & keep us negative for the year ?

    Question about Cisco.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 11:34 PM PST

So I am a beginner when it comes to investing and had a question about Cisco's stock. I just checked Cisco's stock price and they are currently trading at $47 a share. To me this seems relatively cheap for such a big tech company. So why is Cisco's stock so cheap compared to say Google's which is trading around 1,000? Is it just because of google being a larger company and having more products and what would it take for Cisco to have their stock reach the same level?

    Thanks

Can someone explain to me where did the money go for big banks?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 05:44 PM PST

Big banks have been in my too hard pile for the past ten years and I've recently decided to make a go for it, and got stuck instantly. Let me illustrate with JPM. Not just the US banks but I see the same thing for example in bank of China.

    Net income 2017 - 2014

    23b 23b 23b 20b

    owners equity 2017 - 2014

    229b 228b 221b 211b

The dividend is half of the net income or less. Did the net income go towards bad debt? Fill up none existent equity? Please use language for a five year old to explain. Thank you very much!

How does the yield curve flattening affects the financial sector, specifically banks?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 12:46 PM PST

My understanding is that bank margins are somewhat correlated to rising rates? What is the long term effect for thing such as mortgage rates as the short term bonds yield increase relative to the long term bonds?

    Thanks

    Hedge rising interest rates

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 08:39 PM PST

I plan to buy a house about 5 years from now. Given the current economic climate, I expect interest rates to be much higher in 5 years. Is there any way to lock in today's low interest rate for a loan I'm gonna need in 2023?

In need for Hot Stocks suggestion & finding renowned VC Firms focused on Tech related Investments

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 12:45 AM PST

I've always been a bit of nerd when it comes to investing in high-risk Tech startups and also do consider myself a seasonal investors with over 7 years experience in trading. I do not day trade but also don't consider myself a long-term traders hence I'm always interested in making few speculative bets in my free time. With Tech companies, you could easily tell whether you're in the right trade after 1-2 years of holding that particular stock.

I definitely enjoy the thrill of it and also love making money for making speculative bets on hot tech stocks so if you have a company stock on your mind right now, feel free to leave a comment below because I've not been keeping up with this market for the last 2 years. The recent downturn of some of the biggest stocks such as (Google, Netflix, Amazon and Facebook) do scare me a bit however I'm certain these Tech giant's stock will eventually rebound.

Also are there any VC firms out there that you would recommend I should keep up to date with? What are some of the top VC firms that focus on Tech/Fintech investment (have a good track record for doing so)! Open to all suggestions at the moment, basically I'm returning to the market after a long break. Hopefully you guys could let me in on some hidden gems, much appreciated!

would it make sense for microsoft to buy out tableau eventually?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 01:45 PM PST

Tableau has a great visualization product that makes designing effective dashboards quick and easy. Although its not a full business intelligence product, a lot of companies pay big bucks to use their software. With microsoft pushing powerBI really hard and azure wouldn't it make sense to buy tableau and leverage their existing product into powerbi? This would give them more dominance in enterprise software.

    When did you stary investing?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 08:10 AM PST

Back in elementary and middle school, teachers often asked the class 'what would you do with a million dollars?' and I was the only kid that said throw it all in the bank and invest. Finally, when I saved up enough money (at 20yo) I decided to start investing and I have to say I'm glad I've done so. I've been investing in stocks for 1.25 years and am currently at a 30% ROI.

Outlook of the next year to two years?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 11:20 AM PST

I'm looking to invest some money but am uncertain if now is a good time to be getting in or not. Obviously opinions will vary, but what do you guys think the outlook is for the overall market over the next year?

Why have prices seemed to have dropped so sharply since this Summer? What was the driver there?

Am I supposed to be getting occasional coupon payments or one giant payment are the due date of the bond?

If it's occasional, where should I go to claim them?

    Better Investment than AMZN

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 06:02 PM PST

So, I have AMZN in my watchlist, but I am starting to question, why?

"Size is the enemy of performance" Warren Buffet.

So, what has AMZN got going for it?

    • Ecommerce, ok. But I have probably more compelling names in my watchlist, like MELI, BZUN, V, CGNX related to that industry (I actually own CGNX).

    • The cloud. But I'd prefer ANET, NVDA, or maybe even EQIX. (And it ain't like we can invest in AWS directly. If we could it would be a no-brainer to choose that over AMZN.)

    • AI. There are probably better names, NVDA, CGNX, ISRG.

    • Exposure to India. AOS, V.

So, why Amazon. Can anyone enlighten me?

Can anyone suggest investments they believe will outperform AMZN (any sector, any industry)?

    Non-volatile stocks with healthy dividends?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 12:47 PM PST

So I mostly invest in FAANG, but have decided to diversify my stocks some more.

I'd like to put some money into some stable stocks that will slowly grow over the course of 10-20 years but also provide me with a healthy regular stream of dividends.

    Thanks!

Avoid Degiro Broker if day trading

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 10:09 AM PST

I started using Degiro in June, over IB because of its accessibility. I have found that Degiro has problems with its stop loss mechanism, either falsely triggering when its threshold has not been crossed, or not triggering when it has. This can mean big differences in the out come of a trade, especially when doing so on smaller time frames.
Just to warn those considering using this platform for day trading that they should avoid this decision.

    Big investors...

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:45 AM PST

How does big investors like Warren Buffett grow that much while it's said he only or mostly invests in big reputable businesses, it would take years for normal conditions, also there must be times he loses?
