S&P Officially wipes out any gains from 1 year. Posted: 06 Dec 2018 08:31 AM PST SP Down 10.5 percent from ATH making this an official correction! The good news is that it is not as bad as Jan/Feb lows however it's only 1ish percent away from that. So we can count 2 corrections for 2018 which is twice the normal average. [link] [comments] |

Announcement to anyone that doesn’t know Posted: 05 Dec 2018 06:11 PM PST Microsoft just came out with Excel stock data, and let me say it is the best thing that has come out in a while. I 100% recommend subscribing to Office 365, just $10 a month. So much easier to keep track of portfolio data. Features include: prices, daily change ($ and %), beta, market cap, 52 week and daily highs and lows, # of employees, shares outstanding, industry, p/e, volumes, and a couple more. My brain cant do dividend math. Posted: 06 Dec 2018 01:52 PM PST For some reason I cant do the math even though I'm staring at the formula. Can someone tell me what my dividend reward/payment would be If I owned 10 shares at 10$ a share and the dividend was 4.2 [link] [comments] |
How do you find historical stock prices for a company that was acquired? Posted: 06 Dec 2018 09:31 AM PST I'm looking to find the historical price of Genzyme stock (GENZ) in the months before the company was purchased by Sanofi in 2011. I can't seem to find anything on Yahoo Finance, Marketwatch, Investopedia etc. [link] [comments] |
What's the worst trade or pick you've made? Posted: 06 Dec 2018 12:25 PM PST A few years ago before I knew better I let myself be convinced by an online article that TMD was gonna explode and I could get rich quick by buying in. Luckily I only put in $500 but now it's worth $36. To me it's not worth the transaction cost to sell it at this point. Anybody else have some tales to tell? [link] [comments] |
What are banks not recovering with the rest of the market? Posted: 06 Dec 2018 12:21 PM PST Seems like a banks/ financials did not bounce back today. BAC close to its 52 week low. Any insight on why these institutions are not flowing with the majority of the market? Especially with rate increases? [link] [comments] |

Extra $2,000 I have saved, looking for tips/guidance to learn trading. Posted: 06 Dec 2018 11:36 AM PST Basicslly, the title says it all. I am currently in college and I finish in May of 2019. I have worked as a preschool teacher and soccer coach (on the side) while attending university; fortunately, I am reluctant enough to save an extra $2,000. The purpose of this extra cash is to invest in learning how to trade. This is not money I intend to ever see again, I view it strictly as "learning money". I would greatly appreciate any books, articles, advice, and personal opinions!! Recently I have followed this page and it has piqued my interests. Thanks again for any substantive material/advice. Posted: 06 Dec 2018 11:33 AM PST I want to diversify my investments and came across P2P lending with companies like lending club. Though this option looks tempting to try out, I wanted to reach out to the community to seek your opinions. Is this something you have tried and how your experience was? I'm personally a long term investor and I was looking to diversify in the loans I invest in as well. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Dec 2018 09:43 AM PST For those who may still have GE in their portfolios. As you have may known, the recent quarterly dividend payout to a penny got plenty very pissed. Meanwhile, I hope you consider checking out this quick study I made on its recent performance. [link] [comments] |
how do you feel on a day like this, -690 DJ and going strong? Posted: 06 Dec 2018 08:23 AM PST I just wonder if a drop like the last two affect people who have stocks a lot or this is not really affecting people? [link] [comments] |
Question about market circuit breakers Posted: 06 Dec 2018 08:15 AM PST So far as I know there are market circuit breakers set in place to halt trading for a short amount of time in the face of large S&P market losses in a single day. Think the rules have the levels set at 7%, 13%, and 20%, and there are different amounts of time trading has to stop depending on when in the day this happens. Has this happened before? I forget if it was happening in the 2008 recession and I'm not sure if the same circuit breakers were in place then. A 7% loss, the lowest level, seems pretty extreme -- it's on the S&P but in Dow terms, which I'm more familiar with, it'd be like a drop of nearly 2000 points. [link] [comments] |
AAPL falling to $150 would be GOOD NEWS for Long Term Apple investors. Posted: 06 Dec 2018 07:58 AM PST AAPL is my largest holding. And I'm pretty jacked about Apple dropping 26% the last few months. Why? Because I'm a long-term investor. I hold my stocks 5-10 years or even more. I really don't care about short-term price fluctuations. I do care about long term value. And for long term value it is better for Apple's share price to drop and remain 'undervalued' for months or even years. Why? BUYBACK. Right now AAPL is worth about $800 billion. Apple has over $250 billion in cash right now. They generated $78 billion in free cash flow from operations last year. The math is pretty simple. In 4-5 years they can easily buyback HALF of the outstanding shares if the stock price remains low. In the past because of tax law the cash balance was not very useful. But now Apple is free to spend 100% of their cash on buybacks/dividends. It is very possible that in the next 10 years Apple could buyback 75% of the outstanding stock. That is CRAZY. You can bet your ass that Apple is buying a ton of shares the last couple weeks. That is the great thing about owning AAPL right now. If the stock drops, Apple will dollar cost average for YOU by buying back shares in your behalf. Basically you are getting the benefit of dollar cost averaging or 'buying the dip' without risking any of your own capital. To illustrate the power of buybacks: If you owned 20% of Apple before the buyback.....you would own 80% of Apple after Apple buys back 75% of its shares. Of course for retail investors we own a much smaller stake. But the principle is the same. You will have a much larger stake in the assets of the company. With a 75% buyback your stake in company assets grows 400%. [link] [comments] |

I’m having trouble understanding a reverse stock swap Posted: 06 Dec 2018 05:46 AM PST I understand what a reverse stock split is, where a low price high volume stock is consolidated into a relatively higher price lower volume stock, but I'm having trouble understanding the process which this is done with and what this means for the consumer, is their portfolio altered without their knowing? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2018 04:50 AM PST I am currently comparing two growth stocks for my next (long-term) investment. As usual, I spend a lot of time doing research for fundamentals, technical analysis, news etc. What I am searching is a simple tool which compares them. Nasdaq stock comparison is in general what I am looking for, but it's not really great in regards of usability. Do you know any better ways to compare stocks? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:44 PM PST Looks like a stock that could blow up as it expands. Also not operated too poorly. Just scared it might have ipo'd so private equity could dump shares. What do u guys think? [link] [comments] |
