Provided confirmed she took my insurance- now wants $500.00

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 11:09 PM PST

I'm not sure if there's anything I can do about this but I thought I would ask. I sought out a therapist this summer and went to a website that shows providers and the insurance they accept- not though my insurance agency. I found one and emailed her asking if she was accepting new patients. She said she was I asked if she took my insurance- she said she did. I emailed her a copy of my insurance card and confirmed it would work. She told me she had been take advantage of so many times and was not employed by a big corporation that I gave her a copy of my debit card to keep on file and $40.00 cash. During the second session she said that she was having hard difficulty getting authorization but assured me this was normal and insisted I needed "double sessions" and said she would do "creative billing" to make it work. During the 4th session and her astrology as factual science I told her this was not a good fit. 2 weeks later I get an email from her that my insurance won't cover her as a provider and she wants $500.00 for those sessions- never mentioning the cash payment deduction. Is there anything I can do?

    Nightmare van insurance.

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 04:03 AM PST

23/male/uk, clean driving licence held for 4 years.

Recently bought a Mercedes sprinter van, and the insurance is very expensive. I travel the country (roughly 35000 miles per year) carrying out various construction jobs. The lowest quote I've had is £3200! Is there any way I could reduce this?

    Thanks in advance.

Can my parents add me to their car insurance without my permission?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 12:58 AM PST

So my dad originally called his insurance company (Geico I think) and asked how much it would be to add me. I didn't want to be added but he kept pressuring me to talk to the rep on the phone "just so he could know". I did give her my driver ID number and information about myself, but I figured as long as I don't sign anything I'd be fine.

Fast forward to two nights ago and my Mom and I were stuck in a parking lot cuz her battery died and she had to call support to come jump her car. When she looked online it showed my name on the insurance site under theirs. Is it possible my dad added me even though I told him not to? If I don't want to be on their insurance policy (for reasons I'm not going into), can I just call and ask myself to be taken off? I am 26yo btw.

Damaged own vehicle, worth talking to my insurance?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 11:44 AM PST

    Hello Reddit,

This question screams stupidity, but essentially I lived in a gated apartment where the parking is quite scarce, so my spot is rather suboptimal and against a large cement pillar.

Normally the spot requires some fidgeting to get into, and the other day I was simply not careful enough and scraped a medium sized dent into a rear car door. Is this something that might be worth talking to my insurance about? I got the fix appraised and it's not great, the body shop suggested replacing the entire door itself since the issue isn't fixable.

I'm worried at this point because I guess it's mostly cosmetic so I could live without getting it fixed, and I could just talk to my insurance company but I'm not sure if there would be any repercussions from it. Advice is appreciated, thank you very much.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your super helpful and understanding responses. The damages are bad but not awful nor do they make the car not drive-able, so i'll just learn a lesson from this time.

I've submitted my final module to get my DIP CII (UK) qualification

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 07:00 AM PST

If I want to progress further in this industry, how necessary would the ACII be? Is it a must? Would I be foolish to leave it at the DIPCII level?

I'm just weighing up my options and I really don't feel employers value the DIP for all the work I put in?

    Healthcare vs No Healthcare

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 03:04 PM PST

Just turned 26, and am no longer going to be covered through my father's employer. Overall healthy, and willing to incur moderate medical expenses out-of-pocket in order to avoid paying $350-600 per month for mediocre coverage. I've been told by numerous family members and friends that I really should have health insurance, and as much as I agree and wish to comply, it just seems like a poor financial decision. I was about to write off the idea of getting health insurance all together, until out of the blue both my mother and grandmother were admitted to the hospital, and were told they have tumors, just weeks apart. Mother had a cancerous brain tumor, and Grandmother has a 7cm tumor on her small intestine. This has given my new perspective about my decision, but I'm still struggling to swallow a several hundred dollar monthly premium.

I'd love to find a high-deductible plan, but can't find any that are less than their low-deductible counterparts. I also don't see many insurers that cater to non-subsidized, individuals. I applied to a BlueCross plan in November that would run me $265 per month, but after they failed to approve or deny my application, I decided to write it off as it still seems steep, albeit better than anything else I found. I'm located in MA.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc.? What about deadlines? I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, so I've already convinced myself if I don't buy insurance, I'll wind up in the hospital with a multi-million dollar tab, in part due to intimidation from aforementioned relatives

How to force third party insurer to repair or replace instead of cashout

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 06:43 PM PST

So, I had a perfectly running Celica 2000 GT that runs perfect (I have my relative who is mechanic see the car after I bought and he said it, my other ACE certified mechanic also said same thing) and I replaced some major components (axle, whole fuel system, brakes, stereo, allignment, registration) in past one month. It was my first love and my first car. Went into an accident which I'm sure is not at fault. There will be police report to back it up, added with witness questioned by police. I broke no rule and no right of way violation except that I don't have spider reflexes.

Now, how do I force the other party's insurer (nationwide) to pay the repair? It was around 30 mph t-bone (I am the one with front end damage) and both airbags out for me. I would guess its mostly minor fender bender except for the damn airbags.

I know that I have the right to be restored to the condition of pre-accident, but I have checked the KBB and really think it's total BS. Yes it's a fair price of cash, but nobody in their right mind will sell a great running condition celica with that list price, especially dealers. What right do I have to make the insurance company pay the damage?

I'm pretty sure theres no celica 7th gen in Los Angeles or Orange County l0 area that is sold around 2.5k that is in legit great condition. If there is it won't be on the market more than 1 day. I have seen multiple Celica sold on CL and facebook in person but its mostly disappointing. The ones I think are good have sticker price of 4k or above. Batshit insane.

I don't mind if the insurance company finds one celica from me that they have an guaranteed appraiser check to be in great condition or to repair the vehicle back to a mutually agreed shop, but no way I'm okay with just KBB cash value thrown to my face. Its set so unfair. Dealer and insurance are following it only when buying the car and sell it for 3x the KBB value.

Please help I need some suggestions, just moved to Cali and I hate this situation so much. I know I'm going to get disappointed by reality but still hope to get a fair outcome.

I mean, I will be really happy if you can help show a good celica around LA/Orange County (California) area that follows kbb rule of price even when its close. Its going to help alot. Thanks!

    Progressive vs Esurance

Which is better in claims handling, customer service, etc? The rates are similar between the two.

    Thank you.

    Pediatric coverage

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 05:52 AM PST

Is it common for insurance not to cover any pediatrics? My child was in speech, occupational and physical therapy we ended up stopping because of the cost. It would take us 2 years to pay the bills off. The therapy was treated as out of network and when I search or ask for therapy near us in network there aren't any. I've tried to appeal the insurance company but that didn't help. I understand the importance of early intervention but paying full price out of pocket is insane.

Is there any way to find out if my auto insurance (Mercury) covers rental cars on a weekend?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 11:14 AM PST

I'll be renting a car tomorrow and tried calling the number on my Mercury card to ask about car rental coverage. They said they couldn't answer and I would have to ask my local agent, who is closed on weekends and possibly Monday as well for the holiday.

Is there any other way I can confirm coverage? I'm having a hard time understanding why Mercury can't give me an answer on the phone. Trying to not spend $60 extra through the rental car company if I can help it.

Rental question- can’t get an answer because of Holiday

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 06:26 AM PST

Got rear-ended last night and started the claims process with Farm Bureau of SC, the operator couldn't tell if a rental was covered under my policy. Police came and provided the other drivers info and did the report. The assessor is our till Wednesday and isn't answering the phone. Customer service number is also out till after the holiday.

I'm trying to decide whether to rent a car and make sure I'll be covered. I was unable to find rental info in the paperwork in my policy, so I'm assuming it's not covered by my insurance.

Since I'm 100% not at fault, is the rental covered by the other driver's insurance? If so do I just rent a car and provide the receipt to my insurance company, or do u have to deal with the other drivers company directly?

The car was drivable, but because of the damage I'm worried about parts falling off the back hatch or accidentally pressing the open button and not being able to close again.

    Total loss value question

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 09:24 AM PST

So someone recently rear ended my car and the insurance company deemed it a total loss. It's a 2013 taurus limited with 130k miles. They want to give me 7200 for it but I noticed on the paperwork the gave me where they looked at other vehicals to determine the value, they used vehicals that are for sale hundreds of miles away from where I am. I'm in central Texas but these vehicles are in Kentucky and Alabama and they are for sale for significantly less than the vehicles in my area. Is this normal or should I challenge the value they want to give me

    Insurance against loss of work

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 09:02 AM PST

So I am a police officer, and like most cops, I work a lot of extra jobs that require my certifications. The money I make from extra jobs is my spending money and money for my kid's school.

My question is this. Let say I am involved in another shooting and off work with pay for several months. I will still receive my salary, but I can not work extra jobs while on administrative leave. Is there any kind of insurance that would pick up that extra money from extra jobs each month for maybe a 6 - 8 month period?

Had a co-worker in a similar situation who tried to use a short term disability plan and of course got denied
