He said in a text "Hey R, this is D your insurance agent. I sent you a document to sign via echo sign for your policy. I think you missed this document when you originally signed. I just need you to sign that so they don't add extra coverage to your policy. The email to you should come from K"

Is this legit? I found the broker through some website that found me insurance for like $200 /6 months.

I let my mom borrow my spare car because hers broke down, I carry bare minimum coverage on it, she backed into a family members car while she had it, and now that person is asking about my bare minimum insurance, looking for advice on where I stand?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 07:45 AM PST

Edit* Thanks for all the advice and the comments. My mother is disable and financially strapped, I let her use my extra car because I didn't want her to stress, she has already had a previous stroke but luckily had a miraculous recovery. I know that I'm on the hook, and that's ok with me, sure I can't really afford for my rates to go up but it's just money and my family will be fine. Lesson learned the hard way, I plan on informing her that she will have to get her own policy if she is going to continue using my car. Life goes on thanks for all your time redditors

Whole Life Insurance for Retired Senior

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:43 PM PST

I found out this morning that my father in law was contacted by an insurance agent offering him a Whole Life plan. He is very easily persuaded and luckily I caught on in time to have him pump the brakes for a minute while I looked over the paperwork he was given.

He is 74 years old, retired, living off a fixed income (Pension and Soc Sec). No wife...my wife is his only child. He was horrible with money his whole life and blew all his money, no investments, no savings, etc, until I came along and got him into a few high yield CDs, etc, just to begin teaching him how to save.

He has 2 main reasons for the plan...

-he wants to leave something for both his daughter and granddaughter when he passes, as he has nothing at all in place now.

-he likes the idea of the policy rider that would allow him to withdraw 4% per month against the face value if he was disabled and needed care.

He definitely has the income to afford the approximate $577/mo premium for $150k policy, but is this the best way for him to go about this? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

False statement on Car accident report

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 09:08 PM PST

    This happened in New York.

So I got into my first car accident over the weekend. I was at a red light on the left lane. A freight liner on the right lane was making a right turn on a one way going the opposite direction as I approached the red light (he almost completed the turn so I didn't think anything would happen.) That's When he realized he couldn't turn because of the one way, so he reversed and hit my passenger side door and fender. I called 911 and filed a report. He admitted fault to me because his truck has commercial insurance with his employer and that they would take care of it. But of course he didn't admit fault on the report (not like I was expecting it).

    So what's the problem?

I picked up the report today and my statement is completely false on the report. I told the officer "I was at a red light. The truck driver reversed on to me from the right lane where we was turning."

Here's what my statement on the report states:

"Vehicle 1 states while attempting to merge on to X street, vehicle 2 backed up into vehicle 1 and caused damage to both vehicles."

This statement is completely different than what I told the officer at the scene. I was stopped at a red light. I WAS NOT TRYING TO MERGE OR GO ANYWHERE. I asked what can be done and the police station said they can't change the statement on the report. My insurance is waiting on the police report (I have geico). How will this affect my case? I called my insurance company immediately following the accident and gave them the same statement I gave to the officer. Now my statement is incorrect on the report.

Not to mention, I have liability only and I am relying on the freight liners insurance to pay for my repairs, especially since I was not at fault. The police report makes it seem like we were both equally at fault...

At Fault driver insurance refuses to pay ER bill.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 08:53 PM PST

    North Carolina/AllState

I was in an accident in October. It was minor but I got jolted a little bit and the frame of my car did get dented a little. I was rear ended.

Basically, I'm withholding personal information from this guy's insurance agent and as a result his agent isn't justifying my trip to the ER 'because I should have gone to urgent care as it was a minor accident'.

I only told her that I was having back pain.. Yes, I admit that I wouldn't have gone to the ER for just back pains. Here is what scared the living shit out of me, for lack of better words, I pooped blood that afternoon.

Getting in a car accident and pooping blood two days later is just a little concerning and for what it's worth, my mom is a nurse and was the one that told me to go to the ER.

His insurance is only willing to give me $350 for what an urgent care visit would cost plus $150 pain and suffering.

    What do I do?

Billed 90k for out of network doctor

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 05:17 AM PST

My wife had some medical issues and the doctors wanted to run some tests but couldn't because of her pregnancy. After her delivery (C-section), they asked her to run those tests and suggested that she get them done while she was admitted in the hospital (in-network in NJ). We got the tests done but now I see that insurance has rejected our claim because the doctor was out of network.

At no time were we informed that the doctor was out of network. We assumed that everything would be covered because the hospital itself is in network and she was an in-patient at that time.

We haven't received the bill from the hospital yet.

Are we on the hook for 90k? What should be the proper course of action going forward?

    MetLife Dentail Claims Help

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 02:03 PM PST

I have Met Life Dental PPO - I had two root canals done this year - finishing one crown will have used up all of my HSA account. Now I have had a molar break - and have a feeling it will need a crown as well. My dental insurance states that it only covers one crown for every 60 months- Has anyone been able to have their dentist insist a crown was needed under such conditions and been able to get it covered despite the 60-month restrictions?

    Homeowners Insurance Help - Texas

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 05:22 PM PST

Hello, my mother passed away a little over a year ago and I continued to pay the homeowners insurance policy in her name. The property is now in need of a new roof. Are my only options to reach out to a new company and acquire coverage or see if the current company will transfer the policy to my name since she is deceased and I'm now the owner of the property.

My concern is that I may have a hard time getting the coverage if the roof isn't currently up to their standard. Im only listed a driver on one of the cars thats included in the auto and homeowners therefore im not even sure if its even possible to file a claim under the policy I have currently.

Homeowners insurance question about using licensed contractors for repairs

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 05:00 PM PST

Hi everyone, my home recently endured hurricane Michael, and miraculously, I only lost a roof-mounted electric mast, and about 2-3 dozen shingles on the one side of the roof the wind hit hardest.

We tarped the roof so no water could get under the shingles/felt paper, and the adjuster came out and inspected it after we'd tarped it.

Fast forward about 5-6 weeks, and I just found out I'll be getting 3 checks totaling almost $9,000. Now, I have a little construction experience, I have done roofing before, and I honestly figured the shingles could be patched(basically only replacing the missing/damaged ones), but I'm almost of the impression the insurance company figures I'll need a whole new roof.

Now to the cruz of my question, it sounds like they're sending me all 3 checks at once, so I'm wondering, do you think they'll require me to hire a licensed roofer to do the repairs? Or is that just my money to do whatever with? I do have a mortgage lender(Navy Federal Credit Union) that the checks will probably be made out to as well, do you think THEY will require me to hire a licensed roofer?

Reason I'm so curious is because I know for a fact I and maybe a couple other guys could strip and re-roof my house for probably less than $3,000 and do it at my leisure too. That leftover money could get me new carpet and a bunch of other stuff.

I haven't got any estimates yet from roofers so I don't know how much I can get done for that $9,000, maybe the construction market is just super inflated right now after the hurricane, and maybe that's why they gave me so much...

Someone rear ended my car and I lost his contact information he gave me

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 03:18 PM PST

Sorry first time posting. I was rear ended by someone on one-way street and we exchanged our information. He admitted fault and I told him I would call.

Now two days later I lost his contact his information but I have his license plate number from my dash cam.

I feel calling the insurance company will be a bad move for him as it will increase his insurance rates.

Should I contact the insurance company or is there anything else I can do?

    Thank you in advance.

Regarding Travelers Auto Insurance in Canada

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 01:44 PM PST

On Monday of the last week of November, my mother had a collision in her red 2012 toyota yaris sedan. She is not at fault as the driver that hit her did so and damaged the back bumper. It took several hours as it does to report it to the collision center then with those following procedures, a tow truck transported that damaged car into a holding area and we took out an Enterprise Rental car. The weeks that followed was utter chaos. Traveler's Insurance offered $7,200+ if we were to scrap the car and write it off, my mother said that she will need to think about it. The agent on the otherhand has said that they will give her a call at the next week on Monday. There was no follow up till now....even though my mother has refused to give up contacting them by email and phone. We live in Toronto. Is there any way to go about this situation cause at this moment in time, Traveler's insurance is leaving us hanging...

Please help! First time auto-insurance buyer -- need short term in Austin, TX

First-time auto-insurance buyer! I've done a lot of research but am still pretty clueless...

I need to purchase short-term (probably 6mo) auto insurance in Austin, TX as soon as possible. My mom is lending me her car while I temporarily live in Austin. Her auto insurance plan (in Detroit MI) is outrageously high so it doesn't make sense to add myself as another driver on her plan.

Any advice / articles / websites welcomed

Reason code for declining group health insurance for incarcerated spouse

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 12:21 PM PST

Enrolling in employer group health plan for myself. Spouse is incarcerated so will be declining coverage for them. Need to select a reason code and not sure what to use as it will probably be linked to our taxes because of ACA reporting. Worried if I choose 'A' it might come back on taxes as a fine even though it shouldn't be due to the incarceration. In AZ.

Reason Codes: A - Does not wish to be covered - no other coverage B - Covered by spouse's or parents employer group health plan C - Covered by TRICARE D - Covered by AHCCCS E - Covered by IHS F - Covered by Medicare G - Married Co-workers H - Individual coverage purchased directly through carrier I - Individual coverage purchased through Healthcare Marketplace

Claim auto insurance or pay out of pocket?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 12:13 PM PST

Had a single-car accident this morning and drove onto the curb due to sun glare. What I thought to be a pretty minor accident turned out to have about ~$5k damage. Am currently getting a second quote from a different auto shop. Normally, I would default to filing a claim, but am hesitant because 6 months ago I was involved in a 3-car accident and the car who pushed me into the car in front of me did a hit & run. I am still in the process of getting that sorted out.

My question is: since this is the second time I may need to file a claim, I heard that my premium would likely skyrocket. Is that true? There are probably many more factors that go into answering this question, but I am a bit lost here.

I have some saving and don't mind paying out of pocket (it's not ideal), but judging from the facts, will I save more money in the long run?

    Learner’s Permit Insurance

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 11:54 AM PST

    Hi.

I can't get my car registered without having insurance. I live in Maryland and I am 27. Is there an insurance company that will cover me with a learner permit?

My husband has an international drivers license but we can't get it through him so best option is through me.

    Ideas?

Insurance company said they would fix my car, got the estimate from a shop, they decide to total it. They undervalued my car. I need help. They ignored my evidence.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 03:35 PM PST

As stated, they valued my car at 4900 dollars. The car is easily easily fixable, so I want to keep it, they said they'd give me 3700 dollars. The thing is, i have a lot of work and parts into this car. I provide them with these receipts, and they said for the new parts they will give me 5-10 percent of what I paid for them. Additionally I provided them with listings of my car, being sold for 8-12 thousand dollars, all across the country and near me. It's a rare car, so their were none being sold in my town, however the closest was sixty miles away. After providing all do this they emailed me back saying "we need to consider Subaru's in your area to be fair." I asked them then to provide me with the evidence that they used to value my car at, as the NADA value is 7500, so they couldn't have used that. They then ghosted me and I haven't heard from them since, it's been only a day, but previously they were exceptionally good about answering calls and emails. What do I do? I'm a college student so I'm pretty ignorant.

    Resolving Denied Claim with Humana

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:39 AM PST

I'm more so looking for avenues or ways of resolving a denied claim.

My wife got some blood work done back in August (we weren't married at that point). Unfortunately, we've been caught in this back and forth with Humana denying the claim due to "processing errors" or the lab company not sending them the medical records. The lab company says they sent the records over of course, and that the bill still needs to be paid. Well, after nearly four months of multiple claims and back and forth for this one test, it's being denied due to being "investigational" blood work. Is...well, is that a thing?

We can afford the $700, but obviously avoid that if possible. Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Copays and coinsurance? 1st time applying for Health Insurance at 28.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:38 AM PST

Cross posted from the Health Insurance sub too, but hoping to get as much input :)

This is my first time getting health insurance on my own. I was lucky enough to get into my mom's up until now. I haven't had insurance for the past 6 months and it's sucked, as I've been wanting to go for numerous things like dental, birth control, my asthma, blood tests, scoliosis update, and look into therapy.

So I am eligible for a monthly tax credit of $143 and the cheapest plan is a 6.2k deductible with 20% coinsurance on emergency room and primary care. it has dental and HSA (can someone ELI5 this pls?) this plan is $110

BUT I just did my monthly budget and I could def afford something more expensive. I looked at their gold plans and two stand out to me. But the terms are still weird to me and I was hoping ya'll could help point out which looks better?

plan 1: $1500 deductible, 35% emergency room coinsurance, $20 copay primary care, has Dental

plan 2: $1000 deductible, $500 copay on emergency room, $20 copay primary, also has dental

Both of these have a 6850 max out of pocket and they're both with Kaiser which I would prefer. I was under Kaiser before and feel like it would be easier to stay with a place that has all my records and stuff and it's pretty convenient... ish.

These 2 plans are in the same range with just a $4 difference. there's another plan with $0 deductible for 20 more and the same copays as Plan 2.

I appreciate any advice or explanations on how to pick a good plan! or can just break it down for me? Thank you!

    Insurance while studying abroad

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:24 AM PST

So I have health insurance taken care of through my school but I am curious to find out what recommendations there might be for other insurance. I'm thinking along the lines of insuring my positions while living in another country, like what if my laptop or phone is stolen. I will be in a dorm that is suite style with 6 other people I don't know yet. Should I get some sort of renters insurance to cover my personal belongings? I'm an American who will be living in Ireland and traveling to at least one other European country while abroad. I will cross post this into a couple of other subs as well to get the most advice. Any help at all would be appreciated!

Liability Insurance for an Online Tool Rental Marketplace

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 09:45 AM PST

Hi, I'm currently working on a school project on an online tool rental marketplace. It works like Craigslist but for people to lend and rent tools on.

I've been looking at several rental sites seeing how much they charge for insurance for rentals and it seemed to range from 5%-15% of total rental price.

I wanted to know if this range was appropriate range for liability insurance. Would it also be appropriate to pay insurance fees at the end of a period or continually as rental transactions are made?

Advice on accident claim process (ICBC)

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 09:11 AM PST

Just looking for a little clarification... I *think* I understand the process, but wanting to make sure.

I live in BC, Canada, our vehicle is insured by ICBC.

Yesterday my wife backed into a neighbours car in our parking lot.

There was no damage to our car, there was minor damage to the other car.

I'm not sure how ICBC would assign fault, but to my thinking, my wife is either entirely at fault, or mostly ... the other driver may have some fault, depending on how ICBC figures it.

In any case, the other driver is, I guess, worried that she might be found at least partly at fault and she doesn't want her premiums to increase.

The other driver is going to get a repair estimate and if it isn't too costly, said she will then approach my wife about possibly settling without involving ICBC.

We aren't yet sure what impact an at-fault claim against our insurance will have on our premiums. My wife was in another accident a couple years ago, and that one didn't affect our premiums as we had 20+ years of claim-free driving, so had built up a buffer against rate increases on the rate scale. I'm thinking the impact on or premiums would be minimal, if anything, due to our safe-driving buffer, but I've asked my wife to call ICBC to find that out.

Anyhoo... long story short, to my thinking, my wife should be calling into ICBC ASAP to report the accident, even though it wasn't our car that got damaged. That way, if the other driver comes back with an expensive repair bill, my wife can just say sorry, but you're going to have to go through ICBC. My concern with waiting for the other driver to come back with a repair estimate is that if she takes her time, and we then decide no, we just want to do ICBC, but it hasn't been reported... that could complicate the issue.

Am I on the right track? I haven't been a situation where the person who has been damaged (who normally would be initiating an ICBC claim) is not wanting to do so... so not sure how to proceed.

And finally, am I correct that even if the other driver says she doesn't want to go through ICBC, because it will impact her premiums, my wife can still say Sorry, you'll have to go through ICBC, we aren't paying cash?
