looking for a light at the end of the tunnel, please send me your success story Posted: 08 Dec 2018 10:17 AM PST hi everyone. i'm going to graduate university debt free (mostly scholarships, but my parents did take out $7k my freshman year which should be paid off when i graduate) but my long term boyfriend is looking at about $100k in debt. i also plan on going to law school so we will likely be nearing $150k-200k in debt. it freaks me out and gives me regular anxiety attacks. neither of our families are wealthy (clearly) but we've always had everything we needed, however 6 figures in debt is terrifying. i plan on living like i'm still in college until we pay everything off. anyone here paid off 6 figures of debt/are close to paying it off? how did you do it? how long did it take you? how do you feel like you're not drowning? and what's the first big purchase you made/will make after it's all done? Can I refinance Canadian student loans while living in the US?? Posted: 08 Dec 2018 01:51 PM PST I'm in a unique situation - I'm a Canadian citizen with USA permanent residency, living and working full-time in the states. I have student loans from both Canada and the US. I've refinanced my American loans to 5.224%. My Canadian government student loans are at 6.45% and I hate it - how can I lower this? Does any American company refinance Canadian student loans? Sofi and Earnest have both told me they don't. Does Canada have any refi companies?? I'm trying to be really aggressive with repayment and 6.45% is awful imo. Any advice?? [link] [comments] |
HELP!!! Need help with a Private Student Loan from wells fargo. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 04:53 PM PST Hello everyone I am planning to going to a private university in California and was has gotten everything covered by the school because of my poor income. However, my father needs to purchase a liquor store and needs $100,000. Wells fargo can give you a loan up to $120,000 how easy would it be for me to get $100,000 with a cosigner and what are the steps to get that loan from the bank? I would be paying it off after a year since liquor stores make a lot of money where it is located. I Just need info and what they will ask and what I can write down for why I need that much say for example, finding an apartment, food, utilities, etc, and how much money they can give me with no questions asked and how long it will take to receive that loan. Interest does not matter since there bank has pretty easy rates. If you can PM me that would be nice and we can also talk from there if you had experience with banks and private loans! Posted: 08 Dec 2018 01:03 PM PST I recently paid off my unsub loan on Edfinancial. My Edfinancial account says it's been paid off but it is not reflected on my bank account. Wasn't until much later that I realized I put my card number instead of my account number when I paid on Edfinancial. Could this be the reason why nothing has changed in my bank account? Posted: 08 Dec 2018 10:50 AM PST I am about to complete my first semester of college, and I don't know if my application for loans also includes the fees/tuition for my Spring semester. My school's financial portal states an 'expected financial aid' similar to what I received my Fall semester, but I don't think that is enough evidence to rest easy. I have completed the FAFSA for the 2018-2019 school year. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Is there an app that visualizes progress? Posted: 08 Dec 2018 10:20 AM PST I'm a very visual person and having some sort of little tracker that visually shows how much I've paid vs how much I have left would be helpful and motivating. I'm not talking about the visuals like unbury.me, I didn't find that helpful at all. More like a literal tracker. Like an HP bar in a video game, if that makes sense. I tried doing it on my journal, but even breaking it down to individual loans is way too much for like $7700 lmao Or are there other ways to do it? Would love to hear input. [link] [comments] |
HELP ME HELP MY BROTHER W/ GREAT LAKES, GUYS, PLEASE!!!!! Posted: 08 Dec 2018 10:11 AM PST So, we'rw triplets. We all went to the same school, graduated at the same time, and our first loan payments are due tomorrow, Dec. 9th. We all even work together at the same job. Only, pur brother somehow managed to save up a good chunk of money, somehow, and show have a lot less problems making his loan payments than us. We even sat down as a family a month or so ago and talked about it again, and he said he had the money. My sister and I weren't sure, but we managed to make our first payment around Nov. 30th. Forgetting about the fact that my brother's a damn idiot in waiting this long to do something about it, he apparently can't access his account on Great Lakes. He has the app, but never logged in or used it until now, has apparently never gotten any emails (or maybe he has, and I just heard him wrong), etc. We tried to log into his account, but it didn't work, so we tried to set one up, and it didn't work. Turns out, he did a bit of sigging, and apparently, after a year, your great lakes account will be deactivated if it isn't used???? What the hell kind of sense does this even make????? It doesn't really make sense that my sister and I get our loans serviced through great lakes and he wouldn't bc like I said, we all went to the same school. So he has to have a Great Lakes account somewhere. And if it is deactivated, how exactly is he expected to start making loan payments??? Can anyone help us? [link] [comments] |
navient + autopay = extremely confused Posted: 08 Dec 2018 06:01 AM PST hey all, i have eleven (ugh) loans provided thru navient for a grand total of 26k in loans. i constantly worry about not making my payments on time so i set up autopay about a month ago, a couple weeks before my grace period was set to end, just to be safe. my estimated monthly payment was about $273 (remember this number, it becomes important later). my loans were gonna be leaving grace the day after thanksgiving, and i decided to throw some money at the interest on my unsubsidized loans so it wouldn't capitalize a couple days before, so i went in and logged the payment (comes to about $159 in total.) navient tells me that this is "over my monthly payment" (????) and something else very confusing that i can't recall right now, but i went to the personal finance subreddit and someone had posted a question about what that thing meant and numerous people were like "don't fall for it" so i didn't. so i thought. well my payment posted and my interest didn't capitalize but now i'm confused because it says my payments are now that $159 a month instead of $273, instead of being due december 22nd the first one is due january 22nd, and from what i've read on this sub i've not got the little green money sign icon symbolizing that i'm enrolled in autopay. i know that i need to just make my first payment before the 22nd like i'm supposed to, and keep my guard up, but is there anything else i should be doing in order to make this less confusing for me?
