My dog keeps getting attacked by an emotional support dog in our apartment.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:12 AM PST

[Wisconsin] There is an 8 month old male German Shepherd that is not fixed living in our apartment building. I have a six month old Australian Shepherd. We live on the fifth floor and the GS lives about four doors down. We run into each other quite often since we live on the same floor and both use the elevator.

He has attacked my AS in the elevator twice, both times on the leash while the owner would unsuccessfully try to pull him away. He attacked him another time outdoors (the first time we discovered the GS was hostile. The worst occasion was when we went to a pet store about a block away. When we walked inside the GS was off his lease and immediately started attacking my AS. The owner did not immediately intervene. I got down to try to get between the GS and my dog and he bit my arm as well in the process. After about a twenty second struggle, the pet store owner was the one who ran over and pulled the GS off me while the owner stood there and looked confused. I took pictures after the event. I had a winter coat on so my arm just had red marks and scratches while my AS's paw was bleeding and he limped around for about five minutes.

I first spoke with the apartment building and asked their advice. They said as long as the owners were taking preventative measures, such as a muzzle, they would not intervene. I spoke with the owner of the GS after this and they agreed to get a muzzle for their GS just for on the grounds. The attacks have happened so often that I do not think they can easily control their dog. My AS is also now afraid to enter the elevator and pet store since he associates it with where hes been attacked prior, and also hides from GS's if he sees them in public.

After seeing the GS and the owner for about a week after these events, I kept noticing that they do not have any kind of muzzle still. I spoke with her today and she said that after thinking on the issue she has decided to not get the muzzle. She said that the 8 month old GS is an emotional support dog, and with a muzzle he would not be able to do his job. I suggested then maybe using a gentle leader leash, that way if he lunges the leash would close his mouth. She said she is not comfortable with that.

I do not know the logistic of ESD's but I do know they do not have the same rights as service dogs. What should I do in this situation? I feel that if I go to the apartment building at this point they will say there is nothing they can do as most people assume ESD's have the same rights as service dogs (which is not true).

[FL] My girlfriend stole from Amazon using fake information

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 08:00 AM PST

I'm 25M, and my girlfriend is 23F. We got together a year ago and we have been tight on money. We've been able to live fine, but we have limited goods such as a "great" TV or computer. We live fine, with OK Internet/TV and we're happy. But my girlfriend really wanted a Nintendo Switch, but we didn't have the money. Well we DID, but we didn't want to spend it on a game console. I told her not to buy it. But my GF had a very good "plan" to get it for free AND not let me know about it.

She created a fake Amazon account in our neighbors name, using his credit card info. I don't know how she got it, I suppose she was over at his house and got the info. Then she ordered the Switch in his name, to his address. A few days later a package came addressed to him at his house that looked like a Switch box, and she stole it. The neighbor was in town when it came, so he couldn't take that package. I believe UPS delivered it. She brought it home and opened and hid it in the basement.

Then she complained to Amazon that the package never came to the neighbor's house, and they refunded her money, hardly no questions asked. She basically shoplifted. Amazon didn't say they would investigate, but I really don't believe them; this seems like a very rare thing to happen, to have a package not be delivered.

Fast forward to today, I found the Switch last night, asked my GF why she didn't listen to me, and she told me everything about what she did. I'm afraid the neighbor will find out and call the police. What action should I take to protect myself and my GF when the cops come knocking? I'll return the Switch if needed.

EDIT: She just admitted that she also stole an SD card too. About $60 for the card. The Switch was $299, that brings it to $359 for everything she stole, and NOW I believe she's stolen even more things. FUCK

Lady wants me to pay her medical bill, or she'll sue.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 10:11 AM PST

To start off, my husband owns our home if that matters. We've recieved a bit of snow lately which needed to be shoveled. I shoveled the side walk in front of my house, my driveway and the stairs leading to my door. I also laid down ice melt. I ordered a lot for Christmas and I wanted to make sure the postal services had a clear, safe path to my door.

So I heard this lady screaming outside my house the other day. I went out to see what was going on and found her in the middle of my yard on the ground covered in snow. It was clear she had walked across the yard ignoring the path I shoveled and fell.

She starts claiming she slipped and now her ankle and leg are busted. I tell her I'll call 911 for an ambulance, but she begs me not too because she can't afford it. So I ask her if she wants me to take her. She tells me no, she'll take herself. She tells me she just going door to door looking for donations for families in need this season, and how it's ruined now. I really did feel bad and offered her my childrens coats from last season and some canned goods. She declined, limped to her car and left. She refused to let me help her at all.

I get a letter this morning from this lady. It's a handwritten letter that states (paraphrased because it was a very long letter) that I'm required to pay the medical bill for the slip she had on my property, that I was an irresponsible homeowner that didn't properly ensure visitors saftey by shoveling my yard. She concludes her ramblings by demanding 11,000$ for the medical bill or she will take me to court and demand 50,000$ for the medical bill, emotional distress, and fees.

I'm unsure how to handle this. It feels like extortion to me, but at the same time going to court is an expense that will really hurt my family right now if she's not bluffing. My husband thinks we should just blow her off. I think that might be unwise.

Employer deducted $500 from brother's most current paycheck for a "new rule"

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:59 AM PST

    Throwaway for reasons -

To preface this, my brother works in finance for a car dealership in MN. Every finance deal he does with a certain bank, he is awarded $100 from the dealership. As a company, if they hit a collective goal with that bank they get lower interest rates which is why they give individuals the $100 incentive.

In September, my brother completed 5 deals with said bank, and received the $500 on his November 1st paycheck. In October, he completed 13 deals totaling $1300. His paycheck he received on December 1st was only for $800, citing a $500 deduction. They deducted his September deals because they implemented a new policy on 11/29 stating that if the company didn't reach their collective goal, incentives wouldn't be paid out.

So my question is, can they deduct something they already paid him, for a new rule they just enacted?

Let me know if this wasn't clear. First time posting here.

    EDIT: Location is Minnesota

[Ontario] How long am I obligated to store a product sent to me for marketing purposes?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:39 AM PST

I work through an agency to receive product photography assignments. In April I was sent a rather bulky product to shoot and then return to the sender, however the return shipping label was not included in the package. I informed my project co-ordinator of this immediately when I first opened the product, and also in the months that have followed. I have also tried contacting (ie emailing) the product's marketing department, the agency's help center, and the shipping company - all without any response. My photos were accepted and the assignment closed and was paid for in May.

Currently the product's being stored in my small studio space. The product is large enough that the cost of shipping would be significant. Since the assignment is already closed and I haven't heard anything back I foresee a huge hassle in getting reimbursed for shipping fees. I went through the agency's terms and FAQ today and there was a line that said products can be given away after assignments close - but I assume that refers to products that were not intended to be returned. The product's expensive enough that I don't want to be on the hook for it if after I give it away its marketing department realizes it's missing. Thoughts?

US, FL: I believe my signature was forged on a will. What do I need to do?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:53 AM PST

I've heard from family members of the deceased and from a lawyer that apparently my husband and myself were witnesses to the signature of a will. Although we have mutual business connections we have no recollection of meeting the deceased, or of signing the will.

We are working with the family's attorney to set the record straight.

My question is: Are WE the victims of a crime? Do we need to do anything, or do we just forget this happened and let it go? TIA

[Maine] I I’m a freelance web designer and have been asked to make a website for a service with questionable legality. What are the risks?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:58 AM PST

The LLC asking to me to make the site is involved in the marijuana industry which is recreationally legal here. As you know it is federally illegal. I'm wondering what are the legal implications for me if I am hired as a third party contractor to design a site that may be providing an illegal service. I will not be employed in the LLC.

[VA] Being sued by property management company for deposit, after they returned the deposit

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 08:39 AM PST

I lived in a house in a southwest Virginia college town for 3 years managed by a company which manages a very high percentage of the properties in the area and is known for taking advantage of the student population. I am a graduate student who had two other roommates, and our lease ended 7/9/18 and we were all moved out by 7/8/18.

In September I received a form stating that they would be keeping the full security deposit ($1,340) and requested an additional $219. We had left the house in good condition, and I thought some of the charges were ridiculous ($600 house cleaner, $200 for a chimney sweep - but there was no fire place, etc.). I met with student legal services and they noticed that this notice was dated and postmarked 61 days after end of lease, which violated the Virginia landlord tenant act which requires either the return of the security deposit or a list of deductions to be provided within 45 days of the end of lease. If the landlord fails to do this they must return the security deposit in full.

I sent them a letter notifying them of this violation and requesting the return of the security deposit in full, which they responded to by stating we were incorrect and would be sent to collections if we did not pay the additional $219. After this I filed in small claims court for the security deposit and filing fees ($59). Within 1 week I received a check for the full security deposit and filing fees, as well as a ledger showing a $0 balance. I contacted student legal services again and they recommended I take the check and file a nonsuit at the court, which I did. This was on 11/2/18.

I thought this was all done with until 11/26/18 I received a notice in the mail which stated I, one of my roommates, and her dad (a guarantor) were being sued in general court by the management company for the security deposit, the additional $219, $83 filing fees, reasonable attorney fees, and 6% interest. Student legal services can not represent me in court, and said that they were confused by this move but told me I needed to get a lawyer. They said that there were only a few attorneys in the area who would take civil cases, and most of them are on retainer by this management company. They gave me two names who they thought could help. One of those attorneys informed me he had recently been placed on retainer by the management company, and the other one has not returned my calls or email.

So now I am being sued for a security deposit which was already returned to me, and cannot find a lawyer to represent me. What should I do next? The court date is 1/25/19.

I really messed up my name change.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:33 AM PST

The name change was done in Maryland. I got married in Massachusetts.

    ——-

So when I was 18 I put in the request for a legal first and last name change (to avoid someone).

I had a distant family friend who was a lawyer and said she would help me. I got a letter saying I had to appear in front of a judge and she said she would look into it and not to go/worry about it.

While this happened I moved out with my boyfriend to another state and after reaching out to her she blew me off.

I assumed it was denied and went on with life still using my alias but with by original birth name on paper.

2 years later my husband and I got married. I used my birth name to get married.

6 months after getting married I received a letter from the lawyer and it was legal name change papers DATED 2 YEARS PRIOR.

So I got married under the wrong name, and technically requested to have my last name changed to his.

I did go out and get my drivers licenses and social security card changed to the alias using the name change papers.

What does this mean for my marriage? My taxes? Ect?

The end goal would be for me to keep my alias first name and take my husbands last name.

Can I just go back and put in a brand new request to change my last name?

I know this is so confusing.

Hospital refused to help me with broken ankle

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 10:26 AM PST

    Toronto and Oakville, Ontario, Canada.

So last night, I believe I fractured my right ankle while in Toronto. Currently, living in Oakville (2 minutes from brand new hospital), I drove myself there. Upon arriving and trying to get admitted, the nurse asked "which ankle?" And "how did I get there?" I replied: "right ankle, I drove myself". She then said " You drove yourself? We can't admit you due to liability" WHAT LIABILITY? I WAS ALREADY THERE! Is there a law that your required to drive with only your right foot? What nonsense!!! I ended up driving 4 minutes home safety, actually there were 3 police cars parked (with officers) by the exit that I drove by (twice). They didn't seem to have a problem with my left footed tactics.
Who is that nurse to say that? Do I have any legal recourse? I'm so upset over this. I wonder who else they refused to help and why. Any input or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

Can landlord contract with an Internet/cable provider mid-lease and force tenants to pay for cable and Internet? (SC)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:27 AM PST

My landlord has announced that as of 1/1/19, cable and Internet will be billed through the online portal via the landlord, and we will be required to pay for cable and Internet. We are not able to decline cable, nor Internet.

Re-reading my lease, it seems as the landlord can require us to pay for cable/Internet through them, but it is unclear whether they can force tenants to pay for cable and Internet. This is of interest to me, as I have not had cable for years and have no use for cable.

    From the lease:

Tenant covenants that Tenant will pay for all utilities and services, including without limitation electricity, water, sewer, heat and any communications services (television, internet, telephone, etc., to the extent available). Tenant shall, prior to moving in, change the electricity service and communications servicesinto Tenant's name, and shall be responsible for paying the third-party electricity or communications provider(s) directly for such electricity and/or communications services. Failure to put the electricity and communicationsservices in Tenant's name could result in no electricity or communications services being available upon move-in or Landlord charging any amounts paid by Landlord on behalf of Tenant as additional rent or against the securitydeposit, at Landlord's sole discretion. Landlord shall pay third party water and sewer providers, but Landlord has arranged, or may arrange in the future, to have separate meters installed to measure each unit's usage and may, once such meters are installed, charge Tenant for its water and/or sewer usage as additional rent. Tenant agrees to pay Landlord for its water and sewer usage, and such amount shall not be considered a reduction or offset in the rent due hereunder. Landlord reserves the right to modify the method by which utilities are furnished, measured or billed during the term of this Rental Agreement, including, but not limited to, sub-metering of the premises for certain utility services, direct billing of Tenant by third-party providers, or billing Tenant for electricity, water or sewer even if Landlord had at one time included electricity, water or sewer in the rent. If Landlord chooses to so modify the utility services to the premises, Landlord shall give Tenant not less than thirty (30) days prior written notice of such modification. Nothing contained herein shall be deemed a waiver of any rights of Tenant arising under law based on the wrongful failure of Landlord to furnish utility services where required by law to furnish such services.

My landlord hasn't made any attempts to collect rent and isn't responding to my e-mails - do I have to show up at their house unannounced and give them rent? [Ontario, Canada]

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:46 AM PST

My landlord isn't a very communicative person, and I'm worried that they will attempt to evict me for not paying my rent on time. I've had the cheques written for a few days, but, he hasn't come around - neither have his remaining employees.

As far as I know, the caretakers for my building still come around to collect rent each month, and I'm pretty sure that we still have a handyman, but, I'm not sure if the onus is on myself, or on my landlord to ensure that rent is collected on time.

Under the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA) how persistent do I have to be in order to ensure that my landlord receives rent on time? I'd love to pay, but, he's gone AWOL, and always does. Should I just show up at his house?

    A Minor/coworker (16F) is telling people behind my(20M) back that there’s something going on between us.There isn’t.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 12:06 PM PST

So a new girl (16F) started working about a month ago at the grocery store I(20M) work at. She is very immature in attitude and it's only this week that I've realized that shes a compulsive liar for attention. A coworker and trusted friend of mine (21M) just informed me that she's been talking about me behind my back and making it out that I'm into her. He said that she "sees me staring at her creepily" and that just earlier she "texted him(me) good morning".

I don't have her number, I don't want it, I'm nice to her just like everyone else I work with but that's that. I've never been in a relationship before for several reasons (mostly because they cause too many problems) and I don't really want one right now. I'll be damned if I'm gunna be labeled as a pedophile. What do I do? I go to work in a few hours and this has me seriously messed up if people got some kind of ideas about me like that. Am I overreacting? Is there something I should say? My main concern is because she's a kid.

TLDR: sounds like coworker (16F) is playing it up like there's something between me (20M) and her. There isn't.

Edit: north Georgia area, United States. Anyone under 18 is a minor, but 16 year olds can work.

What can I do if I think my neighbors are smoking meth? (Nebraska)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:57 AM PST

Hi! I have to assume this is a not-uncommon question, but I didn't see it in the wiki or the megathreads, so please bear with me.

My boyfriend and I live in a triplex in a dense, working-class neighborhood in Omaha. The building is an old house that's broken up into our two bed apartment on half of the second floor and all of the third. There is also a studio on the second floor occupied by a retired lady, and the first floor is a family of four: a mom, dad, a girl about 14 and a boy about 20.

I have a strong suspicion the family of four does meth. Our apartment constantly reeks of pot and incense, but every once in a while there is also a strong smell of turpentine or gasoline. I wrote it off as the retired lady (she loves DIY), but my bf's mother was a drug addict and says he knows the smell.

They also have screaming arguments every day, sometimes at 6 am, 2 pm, 10 pm. It's an older house and the walls are not thin... we never hear the retired lady. It is amazingly disruptive.

They have frequent guests, never the same people. A lady in a Lexus, a guy in a shitty truck.

The mom has "the look"--wild-eyed, bad skin.

I've called the cops before when one of their arguments got physical, but the cop who responded never even got out of his car, just talked to the dad from the sidewalk.

I am hesitant to go the landlord, as we know him quite well on a personal level and know he basically never evicts people unless compelled.

Tl;dr: suspect neighbors of smoking hard drugs in our triplex. Do I have a legal leg to stand on? Am I being a busybody?

Hospital staff tied me to transport chair while i went into shock.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:48 AM PST

I live in Cali if this helps. I went into the hospital because of my GI issues being unmanageable. This causes alot of strain in my body because I have other medical issues that I need to take meds for and I was throwing up those meds. I waited five hours in the er waiting room and my body had been so stressed by sitting upright that a autonomic nervous system disorder I have took over causing me to lose consciousness. They took my blood pressure and lifted me into a wheelchair as I was too weak to help myself. They wheeled me back into a lab waiting room where I fainted again. I started getting frantic because the only way to recover is to be layed down. The specific name of the condition is called postural orthostatic tachycardia. It's causes a lack of oxygen to the brain. This hospital was at Max capacity but at the same time I told them I would end up going into shock if they couldn't find a place for me to lay down. I tried laying on the floor that wasn't allowed. I told them I didn't care what it was that I just had to lay down. They didn't listen even though I told them specifically the condition I had. At this point my fainting and being upset caused that waiting area to get frustrated and angry at the way they where treating me so they rolled me into a room. I don't remember the room very much other than the bed was empty and they told me the bed was not meant for me. Which I could understand as I know ambulances call ahead of time while in route. But each time I passed out my muscles became more and more tired I started falling out of the transport chair. So a nurse came with a white clean bed sheet and tied me at my waist to this hospital chair. I fainted and fell forward. The sheet dug into my torso area and into my chest. I had fainted 4 times by the time this happened and had started to go into low blood pressure shock. I turned pale my skin became clammy I started hyperventilating. Because of the hyperventilating and some weird cough I started coughing and ended up choking. Nurses where around me and didn't allow me to clear my air way. I finally spit the mucus up on myself where a nurse commented I was disgusting for doing that. They then treated me as a psychiatric patient and tried to inject me with medication. They didn't look at my hospital wrist band had no idea if I was allergic to this or not but decided to prepare a syringe full of it. I told them no that I was not a psychiatric patient that I had neurological issues. They finally found a chair that reclined and I layed on that. As soon as I layed down I started to recover a little. That was after 45 minutes of being restrained upright. Going into shock can cause serious injuries and I believe I sustained injuries from this even. I have a mother movement disorder caused by previous brain damage that was pretty minor in a MRI I had a year before. Since then my movement jerking disorder has become worse. I also know I suffered more psychological trauma as I was previously diagnosed with PTSD from an abusive ex boyfriend I had in highschool. That ex had threatened to kidnap me and being tied up like that made the recovery I made in the years before relapse. I don't want thousand of dollars and have tried to reach out to the hospital to solve it with their like costumer service line. I got a response from the head nurse in the er department saying I was never tied up and I was promptly placed on a gurnee that was in the hallway which was not the case. I have audio of them trying to drug me of me explaining my condition to the nurses and of me getting on a chair in the lab that reclined and was covered by paper whereas gurnees in my local er have sheets. What can I do to help myself. All I really want is to lessen the financial burden of my family for this horrible visit and for staff to be trained better. I'm now scared shitless to ever go back to that hospital but unfortunately it is my local hospital covered by my insurance. I called my insurance company as well to see what they could do and they wrote a report in case other patients made reports and then they would investigate. I want this past me but it haunts me as I right this a sit here shaking that these people could do this to me. I've only reached out to one attorney to see if they could take me on but said they couldn't. Do I even have a case because of my pre existing conditions or do I need to try and move on. I'm not upset I didn't get my room sooner or anything and I try to be the best patient I can be as I know these nurses are working hard. But to be tied up the way I was was horrifying and I believe caused damage. Because my doctors are tied to the hospital they told me they can't order another MRI to see if I do have more brain damage. What do I do from here and can I do anything at all. Again I don't want money I just don't want to be charged for this one visit and just compensation for a possible attorney. I have surgery coming up at the same hospital and I'm scared shitless but don't have a choice of picking what hospital to go to. Please help anything is better than nothing. If you have any questions about my condition I'm more than happy to answer especially if it means getting answers for what I can do to help. I have never mentioned the audio recording till now as I don't know if it's even that great of evidence.

Worried about being kicked out for having a dog

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:12 AM PST

My Wife, my kid and I are staying at an airbnb with our dog in Quebec for the next 5 months. The company my wife works for is providing us with the accommodations. We found a place on airbnb that we liked. My wife came for a viewing and then the company handled actually booking the place. I believe they did this outside of the airbnb app. On the airbnb page it doesn't say weither they are dog friendly or not. We told the people doing the booking that we had a dog and they should check with the landlord if that was okay.

Apparently they did not tell the landlord about the dog. The place is a threeplex condo. Apparently someone else in the threeplex noticed we had a dog and notified our landlord.

We received a text from the landlord saying that we should have told him we had a dog and that dogs are not permitted in his coproperty. We apologized for the confusion and told him that if it's a major problem we can try to find another place. He apparently likes dog and doesn't have a problem with it and he said he would try to smooth things over with the neighbor.

My concern is that because it's a condo and because dogs apparently aren't aloud the condo board could decide to kick us out. We really don't want to find another place last minute. What are our options?

So each semester if our overall average reaches a certain grade,we get around 250$ in the next semester.I was eligilbe to recieve those funds the past year (2 semesters) and besides the fact that i have not yet recieved the scholarship for the first semester,The secretariat stated that all students will only recieve about 50-60$ because of the lack of funds, and did not disclose any intention to pay the rest atleast next year. Many say that thats the last we'll se of our scholarship. What action could i take if it turns out we dont get anything beside the 10%,where do i file a complaint or anything?I know this seems like a stupid exaggerated issue but i just dont want my whole last years work to go to waste. I live in romania btw.

Due to a mistake, I found out I have Asperger's syndrome and my family and family doctor covered it up.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 03:22 PM PST

(UK) I honestly don't know if this is the right sub to post this on, but I figured someone may be able to point me in the right direction or advise me on my next move.

Throwaway account because I don't want this tying back to my main go-to account, as a few friends / relative follow it etc.

I'll try and keep it to the point but it's not something I can explain quickly. I'll probably put a TLDR at the bottom.

A couple years back I moved away from my home city, and began living on my own quite a distance away from my relatives. This naturally meant I had to change everything including doctor's, etc.

Unfortunately I got very, very sick one day and I began going to a GP regularly.

During a check-up, the GP mentioned something along the lines of "You're doing pretty well in your situation everything considered"

I was a bit confused so I asked politely for her to elaborate, as I didn't follow what she was referring to.

She then began to explain that considering I had Asperger's, I was doing very well not to obssess over the symptoms I was experiencing (for the other condition, which I was seeing the GP for).

This understandably freaked me out a little, and after a bit of dialogue she showed me some files confirming the Asperger's diagnosis, letters that had been sent to my parents and some back and forth between my old GP and the hospital that diagnosed me with it when I was little.

The the current GPs credit, she sat with me and tried to get me up to some form of speed of what's happened but I now have a ton of questions and no-answers.

I have always felt a bit off growing up, school was a shit experience all around and I've always felt different in a bad way. I asked my parents repeatedly and they told me I was normal. I went to my old GP and he said I was normal. I went to therapy for three years, and they said I had no other conditions bar anxiety.

I even flat-out asked them if I had it, as my best friends also suffer from the condition and I had a lot of similarities with them, but again I was told I was fine. The last time I asked was at 18, and I still was told I don't have it.

I then changed cities, and an Asperger's diagnosis is on my medical file, clear as day. - I've had to live with this for the past 20 or so years and I've struggled every step of the way up until this point.

I'm now in a bit of a predicament. I don't know what to do next. I want to get as much information about myself as possible, as clearly at this point I can't trust anyone bar myself.

Should I file a freedom of information request, or should I just go and ask for it?

Is there anything I should specifically not do?

I just want answers, ideally without burning any bridges or holding anyone to the torch. Despite feeling intense anger when I initially found out, it's somewhat subsided.

I just want to know more.

Edit - GMT-0 00:02 : Trying to sleep so will respond in the morning. Thanks all!

    Missed jury duty [FL]

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 08:26 AM PST

I was supposed to report to jury duty today, I didn't find out until 3 hours past when I was supposed to be there because my dad is the one who got my summons from the mail and just kept it in his drawer instead of giving it to me. This is my first time ever being summoned and that's probably why I'm in panic mode, I did try calling the court and it's just an automated system that doesn't offer much in terms of talking to an actual person.

Can I throw out junk that the landlord left in my rented apartment/yard?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:54 AM PST

Hi y'all,We signed a lease on this place that needed some major renovations, and the lease started in September. The renovations were not completed on time (which already breaks the lease) but the landlord offered us a month's rent off because the work wasn't done, which we accepted (on the pretense that the remaining work was done within a reasonable 1 - 2 week time frame). Most of the construction has finally been completed, but it took closer to two months. I'm in MA btw.

Now it is December 2nd and some guys just came LAST WEEK to finally remove all of the construction materials that were left in our yard for 3 months (old pieces of sheet rock and plywood and paint buckets etc etc, as well as removed some things that were left there by the previous tenants like an old rusty lawn mower and other trash). However, there remains around 5 cases of unopened floating hard wood floorboards (from home depot) sitting in the doorway to our kitchen that the landlord has yet to remove, as well as a glass shower door sitting against the house. My question is, am I allowed to throw away this stuff? The landlord has left this stuff IN our apartment (not even in the yard because it would be ruined if it were rained on and I think the landlord intends to return the floorboards because combined the cases are probably around $350). If I do will my landlord be able to claim any sort of compensation since it is their property (even though they left it in our house for 3 months).

    Thanks!

I Just discovered that the online school that I enrolled in for the next semester is owned by Full Sail University (FL), a school notorious for being a scam/degree mill. Classes do not being until January. Can I get out of this without owing a balance?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:59 AM PST

Basically what the title says. Yes, I'm a total idiot for not doing more extensive research. I was eager to get my life on track, and was stoked at the prospect of being able to to an illustration degree online as there are no available programs in the city I live in. I was researching reviews when I discovered the full sail affiliation, aand the tidal wave of negative information about the school through that search (for-profit, degree mill, terrible education quality, credits don't transfer anywhere, staff is miserable, etc) I realized I have to get out.

Problem is, I already enrolled and signed all of the paperwork. I noticed one person wrote in one of their reviews that they tried to quit weeks before classes, and the school still went after them for over $20k.

Very unfamiliar with law pertaining to this sort of thing, so any input would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you
