    Insurance claim help

[UK] My dad rear ended a car and wants to claim his insurance. He gave details to the insurance company already and it seems they aren't doing anything unless we call them. It's been over 2 weeks and we haven't got a call back or anything. The garage gave a quote of £4k to fix and contacted the insurance company about it. Dad work is very far so he has to drive a car. We have comprehensive insurance so that we could get the courtesy car but there has been no updates at all. What can I do?

Any Chance of Disputing a Claim Determination?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:28 PM PST

Is there any way to dispute Geico determining damage to be a "not at fault collision"?

I was told initially by the agent that if something rolled under my car and hit it that it would be covered by my Comprehensive coverage at a much lower $250 deductible. Now they are saying they've "determined that the damage was caused by a pothole" and asking for $1,000. There was NO pothole. It was a sunny day and a clear road, I took a left and something bumped the underside of my car. Moving debris. There is absolutely no exterior damage whatsoever, it's all to the control arms which are behind the tires and the bumper. If I collided with something, it couldn't have made it past those unblemished unless it was smaller and bounced up into the undercarriage. Does this make sense?

    Any advice is appreciated.

Insurance agent made mistake now Allstate strong arming me to pay or they cancel

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:38 PM PST

I have had exact Allstate policy forever in Arkansas. It was elevated in several ways because necessary to also have umbrella. I moved to Florida, called agent said copy policy for Florida. We never went into details other than rate change. $120 to 180...fine. 3 months in, they just start billing me $240/mt. They claim the $180 didn't include "un/underinsured" I didn't sign the waiver of it, adding it. It was in my original policy at $120 and "exact policy discussions" I had I agreed to be in at $180. They sticking to I can 1. Have lesser coverage at $180, 2. What I have always had at $240, or 3. They will cancel my coverage. I hate corporate bullying. They agree the agent screwed up but "he doesn't work there anymore". He had also moved my renter insurance policy the same time, but they cancelled without telling me because I live "too close to the water in Florida" to have a renter's policy with him. He should've realize that when he created it, and They agree he screwed that up as well. Any suggestions on how you would handle this?

Does anyone have experience with Progressive in Colorado?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:37 PM PST

I'm currently with Geico where my 6-month premium is $1,280. At Progressive, with the same coverage, it would be $835. It seems like a too-good-to-be-true situation. I'd love to hear if anyone has experience with Progressive in Colorado, if that experience was positive or negative, and if it's worth the switch.

Did I screw up my ACA Marketplace app?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:57 PM PST

I filled out the application for an ACA Marketplace plan and was denied a primary tax credit and other financial assistance. I'm leaving my job with benefits next month to start an unpaid internship in January. I qualify for COBRA and my husband's insurance, but they're way more than we can afford. I thought there was a place on the app to fill those amounts in, but I didn't see it. They asked how much my husband's insurance is for him. His premiums are covered in full while adding me isn't subsidized at all. I submitted the form, so it's only showing me plans with no primary tax credit, and I can't go back and change it. Is there any chance of appealing?

    Self insurance on financed car

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:40 PM PST

I have a vehicle financed, however I could pay the note off today if I wanted too. For personal reasons I would prefer to keep paying the note as agreed. I would like to keep liability insurance of course. But I was wondering if there was a way to self insure the collision part of my coverage that is required under the finance agreement.

CA - I can’t help but feel like Statefarm is over charging me big time for car insurance

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:09 AM PST

    Male, 25, Southern California.

    Drive 2016 Scion tC

Had 1 bumper to bumper collision when I was 19. No airbags deployed.

Statefarm charges me $230 a month. That's an arm and a leg for me.

My coworker drives a newer Audi and pays 80-ish a month. He's about my age. He has Geico.

I was going to call up Geico, but I didn't want to fumble my words on the phone. What do I say? Am I out of line? Am I paying for a more premium service with Statefarm? Any help or advice or tips would be super helpful; I'm kind of a novice.

    Thank you!

Allstate QuickFoto Claim Estimate: lowball offer? should my car be totaled? (first time through insurance)

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:24 PM PST

Some backstory here. I was in a not-at-fault accident in my 2007 Chevrolet Impala LS with an Allstate driver (I have Progressive). At the time, it looked almost certain that the car would be a total. We had bought the car a year and a half ago for $2800, and it had 157,000 miles on it at the time of the crash. Here are pictures of the damage: https://imgur.com/gallery/Kibr2BX .

We submitted the crash photos through the Allstate QuickFoto Claim app and received an estimate today of $2900. However, somewhat miraculously, Allstate valued my car at $3400, and they are opting not to total it. This is where the issue comes into play because we were expecting just a check to purchase a new car with.

My question to you lot is whether or not you think that $2900 for the damage, as seen in the link above, is a lowball offer from Allstate, and if you think a body shop would try to get additional compensation from insurance. In that case, I would also ask whether or not Allstate would opt to total the car in lieu of giving more funds to fix the car. We are also renting a car for the time being, we are not covered by Progressive for rental car coverage. Will Allstate reimburse us due to their accepting liability?

Due to the fact we are not intending to keep the car and would prefer it just to be totaled and not fixed, I ask these questions now instead of waiting for them to be answered by insurance/body shop when it's too late to decide our options. This is my first time going through insurance for pretty much anything so any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you all so much!

    Prescription History Reporting Agencies

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:17 AM PST

    Hello savvy Insurance Pros!

I recently became aware of Igenix and Intelliscript and I know you can request a copy of your personal prescription report from them. I was able to get the Intelliscript report easy enough but I can't find a place to request the Igenix report. Evidently they were part of Medpoint and I believe they were acquired by United Healthcare's Optum division this year. The phone number for Igenix doesn't work and trying to find anybody in the labyrinthine mess that is UTC is, well, impossible!

Do you know where I can request my prescription report from them (or, possibly, if they stopped reporting?). Also, are you aware of any other reporting agencies that track similar data?

    Thanks!

    Quick question

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:52 PM PST

So recently a piece of flashing came undone and allowed water to penetrate the ply wood and some Sheetrock in my living room above the front door. I called Allstate and they basically sent adjusters out, told me to go scratch said there was minimal damage and kept it moving. I'm in the process of moving all my policies to State Farm but they won't insure the house because Allstate came out and looked at my roof that one time. No money was paid no action was taken on their part and I honestly feel like I'm being penalized for doing what I thought was the "right thing". So on to my "quick" question. Is this normal practice? Why do I have to be penalized for something that didn't even really happen?

Mi - ISO new car need to budget insurance

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:13 PM PST

I'm just starting to look at getting a new (to me) vehicle. Is there a way to know how much my car insurance will be before selecting a car. I would much rather know ahead of time and don't want to bother an agent with a call every time I find a vehicle I may be interested in.

Root auto claim, can't get a hold of agent

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:11 PM PST

On Monday I was involved in a fender bender in which a trailer hitch went through my front bumper, and I filled a claim with my insurance, root automotive, later that same day. Got a call the next day that my car was appraised. However, haven't heard anything sense then. I've tried calling both my agent and the claims department to no answer. Has anyone else using root had similar experiences? Also how long did it take for your claim to be settled?

Hit by car who disregarded a stop sign and other party won’t accept liability

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:46 AM PST

(State of Indiana) Wednesday night before thanksgiving, my wife, 2-month old son, and myself were hit by a driver who disregarded a stop sign and hit us head on as we were turning. Most importantly there were no injuries on either side.

We called our insurance who told us to call the other insurance company since it was the other party's fault. We did that.

While the lady has been helpful, the issue is that the other party will not call to give a statement (although they finally called to file a claim).

Now it's been a week and a half.

It's getting frustrating, but I called our insurance again to see if they could assist. They can get involved, but they said that what they would do is reach out to myself and the other party to do an investigation... aka get a statement from the other party on what happened. Back in the same boat!

Obviously you can't force people to do anything, but I asked what happens when you can't get a hold of someone to give a statement and they said that they would probably just close out/cancel the claim at that point.....

Uhhh... does anyone know what the hell is going on and how these processes work?

How can I have such a cut and dry incident, WITH a police report that states what happened clearly, and the other party can just walk away if they choose?

(GA) Involved in at fault car accident, ticket was dismissed and received 0 points

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:28 AM PST

In August I was involved in an at fault car accident, I was merging lanes the car behind me sped up to not let me pass and ended up hitting my car. I was citied for unsafe lane change. My insurance premium raised about 300 dollars and they want me to pay 1200 dollars in January.

This was my first accident of my driving career and I went to court to fight the ticket and they dropped the ticket and no points were allocated to my license.

Does the dismissal of the ticket make my premiums go down? Or will it not have any effect on my premium at all?

No business insurance according to US TV and movies, why?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:06 AM PST

I'm an Australia, watching a lot of American TV shows and movies, and it appears that many American businesses do not have basic insurance. Is this true or just a convenient plot point? Perhaps there is something else about the American culture that I don't understand regarding a lack of insurance?

    auto insurance settlement question

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:32 AM PST

    Hi /r/insurance,

i have a question about a settlement my insurance company is offering for my totaled car and i am hoping you can help with advice. my 2015 camry was totaled in an accident. the adjuster just called me and told me that they were going to offer an amount to me for it. it is at least $1000 less than what i would need to go get another identical car, and when i asked him how he got that number, he said that it was an average of cars sold in my area, and offered to send me the list. one of the first things i noticed on the list is something called "projected sold adjustment." when i asked about it i was told that that is based on what they (insurance company) think the car is worth. how does that even make sense? they are going to set the value of my car by finding similar cars and reducing the price on them? the list he sent had the vins redacted, but i was able to track down the cars anyway based on the exact mileage, and every one of the cars priced below the average has had structural damage. he also has my car listed as "good" condition, which i also disagree with because i kept it immaculately maintained, but i understand that that is mostly subjective. my main concern is that he is including wrecked junkers in his evaluation.

[Texas] Insurance adjuster wants to repair/refurbish not at fault damage... can I get your input? Am I asking too much?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:34 AM PST

11/21/18 — Accident occurs, video from my dash cam below, made a claim with the at-fault party's insurance immediately. This is a 60 MPH highway. At-fault driver was not paying attention, likely texting and driving, and "had" to swerve into my lane to avoid hitting the car in front of them.

    https://imgur.com/a/P0hKbci

11/27/18 — Appraiser comes out and evaluates that there's $675 in damage. Estimate and damage pictures below. I understand this is just an estimate and they anticipate the final claim to be higher, but they want to repair/refurbish what they can it looks like, and didn't even write anything about the damage to my front fender, rock rail, or tire.

    https://imgur.com/a/8d8Orzw

The damage to the rock rail you have to feel/see up close, but he definitely knicked me starting from my front fender down to the back fender where you finally slammed into me and came to a rest. I recognize that it's very minimal, same with the damage to the physical tire, but damage is damage, am I wrong for wanting these parts replaced and not just repaired/refurbished?

11/28/18 — Adjuster calls me to pick a body shop, which I gave him the information and inquire about getting a rental car because my car is not driving right and I don't feel safe transporting my three children around. Says he'll get back to me.

11/29/18 — Adjuster will not return my call despite calling several times throughout the day. I am convinced that they are dragging this out until next week so they do not have to pay for the rental over the weekend.

11/30/18 — Still no response from the adjuster, will not answer or return my calls.

It just appears that no one is taking my claim seriously. I had less than 1 second to react, which I did and was able to come to a safe stop, but had I not this would have certainly been a fatality accident. There have been 5 fatalities on this stretch of highway, 2 at this intersection, in the last year alone. You do not walk away from crashes on this highway. I didn't suffer any injuries either, and just want my property that was damaged due to someones grossly negligent actions replaced.

Am I asking too much to have the things like the rock rail and tire replaced? What are your thoughts or input?

Minor car collision on expensive car

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:27 AM PST

I was recently in a minor car collision with another individual, that was their fault. No airbags were deployed but one of my doors needed replaced and some work to the fender. The value of my car has gone down more than what the cost of repair was (because I have an accident permanently on my car's record). Can I go after the other driver for total value lost?

[CA] Damage from road debris, just checking my options

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:18 AM PST

It's been raining buckets here in southern California...as I was driving home yesterday, I hit something big and metal going thru an intersection. I have no idea what it was and didn't see it since the roads were wet and whatever it was must have blended in. My car was driving fine so I called emergency services to report it and continued on my way. Come to find this big gash this morning.

I still owe about $5k/2 yrs left on the loan, so I have comprehensive/collusion/liability/the whole nine yards as required by the lienholder. I'm not 100% sure if my deductible is $500 or $1000. Either way, is this even worth filing a claim over? Which coverage does it fall under? I don't want to risk my rates increasing over some cosmetic damage that doesn't affect it's utility or longevity.

I assume the entire bumper would need to be replaced, which was $750 for the back one when I was rear ended a couple years back (other party's insurance covered it), but I'm no expert.

Am I missing anything, or are those my options?

    Aflac and pre-existing chronic illness.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:02 AM PST

I've had issues with syncope for about 10 years. Took all I had to keep going to work. Then I got another condition on top of that and that broke what little ability I had left to make it into work. Luckily my job let me work from home indefinitely. I met with an Aflac rep that's part of our company. We're a small business and although we have health insurance, it doesn't cover much. It also doesn't provide FMLA (that's how I ended up working from home, I told them I needed FMLA and they said it wasn't possible so I said "then I guess I'll work until I get fired and hope I can survive after").
Excuse my cognition issues but I've been struggling lately and things are difficult so it was hard to understand what the rep was getting at.
I wanted the short term disability insurance but asked her if that is applicable when I'm fired. She said it would be a medical leave situation and I mentioned to her that my job doesn't offer FMLA so where exactly does that fit in? She said she didn't know they don't offer it? Then said I can just take the form she provided me to my doctor then have my job fill it out also. I let her know that the only way I'd get time off for a medical issue is if I was fired on good terms. Then rehired when I "got better". She seemed confused by that statement and said I'd still be employed but I wasn't sure how that will work without FMLA.
Anyways apparently if I just hold out another year, my pre-existing conditions can be covered. Hope that wasn't a lie.
My health has been on a steady progressive downward spiral. I'm not sure if I'll still be able to work in a few years. If I am let go from my job I'm not sure who will hire me. If I apply for SSDI my age and medical conditions will make it incredibly difficult to win. It may take years and still not be a guarantee. So 6 months of short term will at least give me something as I try to start the process. But I don't know if this works the way I think it does.
