8 months into sales cycle, customer just sprang a price 60% less than our offer and said "take it or leave it" what do I do?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 07:18 AM PST

8 months into a big ticket tech sale, we're halfway through legal negotiations and they have now come back and said they only have budget for $1.4 million and our offer is $3.2 million. We are their top choice and we have solid executive alignment and sponsorship. If I lose this deal I'm probably out of the company, and I like it here.

What do I do? How do I approach this?

Cloud/SaaS and Sales Certifications to break into new industry and advance career?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 06:26 AM PST

Looking to transition from Managed IT Services and Tech Staffing to working for a Cloud Service Provider or SaaS Company.

    1) In this day and age, are Sales Professional Certifications attractive for hiring managers? Can this help someone like me with 10 years selling experience break into a different industry with higher OTE potential?

    2) AWS (and others) offer certifications. Could it behoove me to start working towards any certs as I look to land a great opportunity? I'm sure it could but is the ROI there or are my sales skills more critical?

    3) What is the one company you would absolutely love to sell for? Why?

    Thanks in advance!

Made a mistake at work today, but I'm happy

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:38 PM PST

Made a mistake at work today. Basically I showed my cards too early. The client I'm dealing with is a re-seller and he was working me for a better deal. Lying to me about his (imaginary) target price.

I caved and I escalated it. We got the price reduced without realizing he had nothing concrete and my quote was the only one on the table (I heard him say that but I didn't listen.)

Next time I will listen and think differently. Next time I will make a better decision.

The only way to improve is to fail.

Does anyone have any experience with working a parade crowd?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 11:57 AM PST

I just got a commissions sales gig selling LED gadgets at a parade. I have experience working in sales online, 1-on-1, and booths, but I don't have any experience selling in travelling sales with large unorganised groups like parades. Does anyone have any tips?

Going to look for a sales job!

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 11:18 AM PST

I'm 20 years old and have worked in a clothing store for a little under two years. My contract is about to end and I'm looking for something new. Before I started working at my current job, I've done half a year of door to door sales and I absolutely loved selling (and the commission), so I'm now looking for a sales job.

I've found some job offers for outbound call centers and I was wondering if you guys would recommend this as a 'starting' sales job. If so, are there any books I should read that could help me at that job or other things I should know?

    Thanks!

    Best course?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 10:43 AM PST

Best course or read that helped you in your career?

I'm already good at what I do, so I've been fearful of diving into more sales knowledge, as I don't want to fix a machine that isn't broken. Or break a machine by trying to make it better. I'm a fan of sticking to what works. I'm sure at least a few people can relate.

However, there may be things I don't know that I'm willing to learn and consider employing. Let me know what's helped you all most!

    Thanks!

When email marketing (B2B), do you contact emails with info@, hello@, etc.

For B2B, would you contact these email addresses?

Does anyone else find themselves thinking about work/selling too much outside of work?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:46 AM PST

In my experience it can become kind of addicting. I find myself thinking about sales that I've made or possible ways I could have closed a sale that I was unable to or other ways I could have gotten more out of my pipeline a lot.

I guess this is kind of to be expected given the competitive nature of the job (somewhat of a boiler room environment) and just the fact that income potential is uncapped.

It's gotten to a point where I have to sorta force myself to do other things. I was going to work the week of Christmas but November was a great month for me sales-wise and I've taken almost no time off since I started in January so I figured it would probably be wise to utilize some of my vacation time. I'm sure it would be better for me in the longrun anyway because avoiding burnout is always crucial.

    Website/blog for front line sales

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 07:57 AM PST

Hey guys and gals. I've been in various front line technology sales positions for 15 years and I've decided to share my experience and thoughts on our profession. I want my site to be relevant and informative. What sort of information and topics would you like me to discuss/review and just as importantly what would not resonate. I'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts. Thank you in advance for sharing.

    Is emailing companies an option?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 07:48 AM PST

I'm a website developer, previously on average I got 2 new clients every month, suddenly my client flow has stopped and I don't know what happened. Is emailing small companies with no websites or outdated websites good option?

How to approach the purchaser with commision.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 05:58 AM PST

    Hello sales force,

I been in sales for just two months and I visited one good company for more than five times just to see the right person. And when I met him, it went all good. He said he have few inquiries which he said he will mail to me right away. So far so good.

But when I started following up once I didn't receive any mails, I started asking around in my company and one of my colleague said that, the purchase head is working in commision basis.

Since I am new, I really don't know how to go on and ask does he need commission to give us order. I am little bit scared that if something goes wrong, we could loose a potential client and it will be a bad mark in my company.

    Software for Self Tracking?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:35 PM PST

I'm looking for some simple software (or just advice) to track my own progress for my first commission based sales job. There's a lot of factors in play, including: Calls made, availability at station, quota, points, conversion %, hours worked, overtime, my base pay, etc.

I've been making spreadsheets to keep track of my progress, because I like to see how much profit I made in a day/week/etc, and to break it down by the hours I work to get a wage per hour and see how I'm doing, it's very motivating to see the numbers update throughout the day as I update them.

The company I work at gives us pretty basic software, and I have to do most of math myself. My spreadsheet is getting pretty unwieldy, and I'm hoping there's some basic software out there that I can just input my own data into and it can spit out the results for me.

Here's the spreadsheet I have so far, just to give an example of how monstrous just 2 weeks worth of data is. I don't think its very sustainable long term.

Thanks for having a look and any feedback/advice/suggestions you can give me!

    Warehouse Direct to Customer Sales

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:15 PM PST

Not sure how to even word this post. This is why I've hesitated to even post this.

    I am a female sales consultant 30F/Warehouse sales/Luxury Products

I was told when I began this endeavor that I would be selling luxury massage chairs in a place that rhymes with Schmsoco but ended up selling at a place that rhymes with Shmam's Schlub. Well as you can imagine Shmam's Schlub has been less than ideal. My co-workers who are selling at Schmsoco in Southern California are reaping the benefits of selling luxury wellness products on the West Coast while I have been stuck trying to sell the same thing at Shmam's Schlub at $5999 a pop.

I believe in our product and what it can do for our customers. I believe in my presentation to our customers and the benefits they can receive from our product. I am having trouble with the presentation of our product in a market that is unable to purchase the product outright. Financing is not available. Our product is only available at Shmam's Schlub from $1999-$5999. Is this price point completely out of reach for Shmam's Schlub customers? Is it in reach for Schmsoco customers?

I was able to sell this product (luxury massage chairs) in the Seattle Washington market very easily. I am finding it very difficult to sell this product outside of this market. Please let me know if this is a sustainable sales market outside of the West Coast. What can I do to sell better to different markets? What can the company do for marketing to broaden our market? We sell luxury massage chairs, mattresses and ergonomic furniture.

Start My Own Business or Work Remotely?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:02 AM PST

I'm in a predicament, I have a lot of knowledge of SEO, SMM, Adwords, etc. I worked for a digital marketing agency as a sales consultant this year, but I've since moved to a smaller city that doesn't have any sort of sales positions available.

I'm currently working for a company outside of sales, and I'm making an OK living (14/hr.) The inner salesman in me is hungry for more income. I know that I am a great salesman, and that I could be an asset to a sales team.

I'm very hesitant to start a company myself because I simply don't have the funds, and I don't want to deal with the headache. I would simply love to keep doing the job that I have now and do sales on the side. I would be perfectly comfortable and happy with a commission based salary.

However, I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for such a position. Any tips or advice? I'm open to anything at this point as long as it means making sales, and making money.

I'm looking to get into Saas sales. Am I doing this right?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:31 PM PST

    Quick background

    • 3 years of residential solar sales. SDR --> AE (2012-2015)
    • 1 year of AE b2c sales for an airbnb competitor (think homeaway) (2016)
    • 1 year of sales consulting with ecommerce brands (freelance) (2017 - present)

I'm looking to get back into a sales floor and learn from mentors and get better pay than what freelancing is doing.

I want to get into B2B enterprise sales. Should I go back down to an SDR/BDR role or go straight to AE (as I was doing before)? I'm thinking AE but I really don't know much about SaaS. Should I just go for it?

Has anybody gone straight to AE without sales experience in SaaS but other AE experience?

Located in San Francisco if that helps.

    Thanks!

I got passed up for promotion for two different positions... now what?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:02 PM PST

I work in sales and recently put my name forward for two positions that would have been a step forward. I've been beaten by two other colleagues who haven't worked here for as long and now I fell like I'm trapped in a dead end.

anyone else been in a similar situation, or have any advice? I would have loved to be moving in to the new year with one of the positions, but now I feel unmotivated and second best.

    D2D Solar Panel Lead Setter?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:10 PM PST

I qualify homeowners that can pay a smaller electric bill with no upfront costs and rebates from the power company and gov tax credits

But, the vast majority of these ppl are passive-aggressive or super scared/paranoid

    ???

I'm starting to realize this just a #'s game bcuz at least 1 person has to have some sense and ears to capitalize on opportunity.

Is it better just to state what I am qualifying for or stick to the company script, bcuz many look like they want to hear the main point off rip?

How would you deal with secondary supply chain managers trying to further negotiate a discount after you're at the point of contract execution?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:24 PM PST

So I've got an interesting scenario where we have a verbal commitment from a CFO for our service. We went back and forth and discounted our price some to get them down to their budgeted number. All parties were happy and we proceeded. They sent back redlines this week and our legal is currently reviewing.

Today I get a call from the supply chain manager who claims he's the one to sign the contract and is now telling me he needs a further discount. I walked him through the history, noting our original starting price and where we are currently. He then tells me to go to my decision maker (my VP of sales), explain the situation and tell him we need to further discount.

Any thoughts on how to best handle? My VP agrees that we aren't discounting price any further.

    In need of advice

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:21 PM PST

Hello r/sales! I've been lurking here awhile and I have so questions.

I'll start off with I'm 23, and reside in columbus ohio. Recently decided I'm tired of the paycheck to paycheck cycle I've been in with any job. I've always been the hardest worker at any workplace I've been at.( Mostly manual labor or driving a forklift). And I recently saw some motivational sales people on YouTube and figured why not. But I have no schooling after high-school. No background in sales. Where do I start? The paycheck seems worth any amount of work I have to put in.

Tldr; no history in sales. Want that money. Where to start?
