Daily Practice for Salespeople Sales and Selling

Daily Practice for Salespeople Sales and Selling

    Daily Practice for Salespeople

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 03:42 AM PST

When you read about top performers in more glamorous professions -- sports, the arts, etc. -- they often mention a fundamental daily practice they have that their success is layered on. Stephen King or Ernest Hemingway writing 1000+ words to start their day. Kobe Bryant not leaving practice until he's made 400 shots. Things like that.

For the perennially successful salespeople out there, the pros that have been top performers for many years, what is something you do every day that the rest of your success is built on?

    Path to Chief Revenue Officer

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:16 AM PST

    Hey All,

There seems to be surprisingly little documented on the expected path of an entry level, or even a senior-level, account manager that wants to get to a CRO role. So, I thought I would start a thread here to hear this community's thoughts.

My personal goal is to become a CRO. I have been in enterprise tech sales for 5 years (finance for 2 years before that, with a masters in management) starting at a predominately hardware focused F100 company and then moving to a SaaS startup that was then quickly acquired by another huge F100 software company.

A big question for me is, what is the next best step. If you assume the CRO will continue to be focused on sales & customer support, with marketing included 30% of the time under their scope, what's the best move?

Should the move be into sales management of a team as fast as possible, no matter the size of the company (for example, go to a startup ASAP or grind at a F100 for 3-5 more years to get a management role)? Or should the move be into an individual contributor role on a customer success or marketing team, and then sales mgmt?

I just can't find answers to what is weighted most heavily: team management, customer success understanding and/or management, marketing understanding/management? Or, is there the hope that a third component such as analytics is woven in to make sure the CRO has solid breadth of experience in order to interact with other C-level execs without too narrow of a vision...

    Thanks.

    Client Presentation Jitters

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 12:11 PM PST

What do you all do to help relax before and during a meeting with a client? I work in the enterprise Saas space and I'm going to be at my first onsite meeting this week and will be presenting to a client and several members of their management team and I'm starting to get a case of the butterflies. Any tips or tricks that you all find effective for handling this?

Acquiring lists of potential customers/ their emails?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:47 AM PST

Hoping this is an easy part of the sales job but how would one go about this. I'm specifically targeting high AOV custom auto shops but pretty much any business with high AOV because I'm selling consumer level 3D graphics so a business with a 3k AOV wouldn't mind spending 1500 to increase conversions, at least that's what I'm basing this on. Where can I find/make a list of businesses like this?

    Is this a bad idea?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:37 AM PST

Is it a bad idea to grow my hair out?

I am in IT hardware sales for State and Local Government accounts. I am young, 25 years old. My colleagues are much older, usually 45-55 years old. My customers are also usually 45-55 years old. I am customer facing and regularly do in-person presentation on our products.

This year I wanted to do something different with my hair. I was just tired of the same corporate haircut. So now my hair is long enough, I am finally able to have a 'man-bun'. This is still a new style for me and I don't know how I feel about it.

I want to feel good about it. People that are my age are very supportive, both men and women. But I am not sure if the older generation gets it. Seeing that I work primarily with people much older than me, I'm starting to feel out of place with my haircut and I am starting to think it might be a mistake.

The only thing I am looking for is a reality check and some honesty. Is this something to worry about? Or am I overthinking this?

How blunt should you be about your intentions

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 02:58 AM PST

My idea for starting a call would be to say

The reason for me calling today is to ask to what degree you are looking into X and if not to offer insight so that you can assess whether doing so would be worth your time?

    What do we think?

Making the five into commission only tomorrow

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 08:24 AM PST

After a year of being treated like someone's slave, I finally have left my old job and went to car sales! The feeling I have is a little scared/excited because this will be my first commission only position. Before I was salary+ commission so I had somewhat of a cushion. Any tips? I think having to hunt will really put a fire under my tail, because if I don't sell I don't eat!

    Thanks all!

    Edit: title should say dive!

    Looking for Network/Chats

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 11:07 PM PST

Is there any sales related discord or group chats? I'm looking to network and talk to like minded people on a daily basis. Plus I'm sure it could be a lot of fun as well.

The Thnigs ALL Sales Books Have in Common

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:00 PM PST

Ok so is there some sort of compilation of condensed sales theory? There are 200+ page books on let's say copywriting. But those books just explain to you the 6 factors of persuasion in a long, drawn out, arguably uselessly specific way. They are a dragging on application of commonly known principles.
