Basic math problem in calculating returns

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 02:16 AM PST

    Hi SA,

New to investing, I have a problem with basic math and the calculation of compounded interest (liberal arts major here).

In this interesting article (http://www.gannononinvesting.com/blog/2018/10/10/how-much-is-too-much-to-pay-for-a-great-business) Gannon explains that if you pay 2x book value for a business with a consistant 20% ROE, you make 16% a year for 20 years (if you hold that long).

I don't get it. If I pay 2x book for a book that yields 20%, my annual return is 10% isn't it?!?

Some help would be MUCH appreciated.

    Thanks!
