We encourage all our visitors to ask those investing related questions they were always too afraid to ask.

The members of /r/investing are here to answer and educate!

NOTE If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or anything similar. There is no single answer to this question, but we will also need A LOT MORE information if we are to give some sort of answer

    • How old are you?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive girlfriend? (not really an asset)
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • Any big debts?
    • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

Be aware that these answers are just opinions of Redditors and should be used as a starting point for your research. You should strongly consider seeing a registered financial rep before making any financial decisions!

If I think esports are gonna blow up and be huge in the next 20 years, what do I invest in to make that "bet"?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 12:23 PM PST

It's mostly a private thing so am I out of luck as a public investor? Is it impossible to get in on the ground floor? How do I approach that?

My generation games were nerdy. Then they became more socially acceptable. Now you have kids literally paying to watch other people play video games. This will become normalized, these kids will grow up and become consumers and give birth to an even newer generation of kids, and I think "esports" (I still think it's completely ridiculous) will be a major thing for these coming generations.

With that being said how do I make money on that if I am right? Because it's private do I need to approach as a private investor somehow? What about getting a job within that industry? Do I have to be a gamer?

Powell: Fed rate "just below neutral", broadcasting uncertainty about rate hikes in 2019

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:28 AM PST

Stocks are surging. It seems the market turmoil since Powell's last remarks in October, along with the commentary on market risk this morning, are throwing water on his previously hawkish stance. Good/bad thing? How does this impact your portfolio? Personally, I believe many equities are overvalued and rates should rise so that investors feel more comfortable expanding into other asset classes. I wonder if Powell is "giving in" to Trump, so to speak.

Fed warns that a ‘particularly large’ plunge in market prices is possible if risks materialize

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:26 AM PST

"An escalation in trade tensions, geopolitical uncertainty, or other adverse shocks could lead to a decline in investor appetite for risks in general," the report said. "The resulting drop in asset prices might be particularly large, given that valuations appear elevated relative to historical levels."

"High leverage has historically been linked to elevated financial distress and retrenchment by businesses in economic downturns"

"Given the valuation pressures associated with business debt ... such an increase in financial distress, should it transpire, could trigger a broad adjustment in prices of business debt."

What are my options to invest into a EUR hedged SP500 fund

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 03:07 AM PST

I am from Europe and I want to invest into the SP500 with minimized currency risk. So far, Ive only found the iShares S&P 500 EUR hedged (IBCF) fund. Arent there any other funds like this?

Also, its my first investing into a fund. What should I look out for when picking one? Only criterias I can think of are fees, reinvested dividends or not and how well they can replicate the index.

I want to buy a polish stock, but I'm only invested through Vanguard, how do I do this?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:01 AM PST

American, have assets through Vanguard. Some in international stocks but i think they only trade in the US market even in that mutual fund.

How do I go about buying stock in cd projekt red? and GOG?

It looks like this is the ticker? WSE: CDR but also that this might be the ticker OTCMKTS: OTGLF

Is there a way with vanguard to buy this stock? What would the steps be if not through vanguard? e.g. open a XYZ account with ABC then buy polish currency then buy stock? etc.

Whats any pitfalls you can think of owning stock like this an amateur might miss? e.g. capital gains work differently?etc

Amazon enters the blockchain business with QLDB

Amazon enters the blockchain business with QLDB (Quantum Ledger Data Base). A blockchain with a centralized authority, an oxymoron for DLT purists and it would be a joke if it were not Amazon to launch such a service. Will it work? We'll find out!

Do you Invest Monthly or in Larger Chunks ex: Quarterly?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:52 PM PST

My wife and I have the ability to invest $3,000-$5,000 every month after retirement accounts are maxed and fixed expenses paid off. We have some debt (mortgage and car payment) but I don't see any benefit in paying either off as the mortgage is 3.125% and car is slightly higher than that.

So....would you invest that sum each month or in larger chunks?

We are in our late 20s...

    Sports Team Financial Statements?

    Trading Brexit

UK investors, how are you positioning yourselves based on this saga? Hedging against the potential currency devaluation? Reducing exposure to UK assets and bonds?

Foreign investors, are you looking at UK assets as something which could be significantly devalued as a result of both currency and economical pressure and therefore be 'cheap'?

I'm keen to understand how everyone is posturing!

What will happen to interest rates in the next crash?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 08:30 PM PST

Interest rates have decreased over the last 40 years due to the fed having to lower them more than the previous high during each crash to stimulate spending. Having finally reached 0% due to the '08 crash, and remaining there for years up until recently, what will the fed do to interest rates during he next recession if it can't go negative?
