The Fun of Investing - Do you ever feel like you're wasting your time? Posted: 08 Nov 2018 10:19 AM PST Do you ever feel like you've wasted your time and energy after hours of thorough analysis that concludes with discarding your initial thesis? Let me point out that I'm new to the markets and security analysis. I'm not employed in the financial industry, nor am I looking to be. I spend around 15-20 hours per week on investing my personal funds, doing analyses and educating myself on the topic. I have an investment and screening process, although maybe not sophisticated enough, I'm not just analyzing random companies. Since I'm not actually getting paid for my analyses, I sometimes feel like I'm wasting my time spending several hours on digging into 10-K's and -Q's, investor presentations and industry reports, only to conclude that the security at hand is not worth an investment in the vast majority of cases. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the process of analysing and investing by itself for the most part, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it, but at times it feels like I'm doing a lot of work for nothing. Do you ever feel that way? If so, how do you deal with that or think about it? If not, how do you avoid it? Does your screening process eliminate a lot of barren soil? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 02:21 AM PST Recently, I have often been reading about value investors touring China to better understand Chinese businesses and become better investors. What would be the best way to tour and scout out China along these lines? Has anybody else visited the campuses of Chinese companies? (maybe BAT stocks?) [link] [comments] |

Conference Calls With Investor Relations Posted: 08 Nov 2018 07:48 AM PST How important to your investment thesis is it to talk to a company? Management is generally biased to always be positive while they'll in many cases know more about an industry than you do. What are key questions you always ask? Open-ended ones seem like a good place to generally start when conducting these types of calls or meetings [link] [comments] |
