Posted: 10 Nov 2018 02:18 AM PST Does the coverage limit under "loss of use" declaration page apply to housing while we rebuild? Not sure it will be enough if so. How/when to file for the cars? Car 1 total loss, has comprehensive & parked on the property. Car 2 total loss, liability only & parked on the property. Both of these are sub 2k cars that I don't need/want replace. Car 3 is the primary family/kid hauler car and has no loan. It was parked/abandoned down the road in front of a building that burned. We've got video of one side, but no idea about the other side or smoke damage. I need to replace or repair it ASAP, but it could be a week before I can get anywhere near it. It would be easier decide what to do if knew it was totaled. But a car is the last thing I want to spend money on if I don't have to. If anybody could speak to the timeline this kind of thing it would be helpful. I've had plenty of small auto claims but this is next level. So what's the process like for homeowners insurance when thousands of others are affected too? Also, I've seen ads for companies that represent the homeowner during the claims process. Smells like scam to me, but I thought I'd ask about it. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 09 Nov 2018 12:07 PM PST In OR. Bike is 4 years old and about 3K new. They are offering much less. For the amount I am offered, I cannot buy an equivalent bike. Can I demand replacement value? EDIT: Thanks for the advice, everybody! I now have a better understanding of how insurance works. The bike shop guy had told me I would get replacement value, but he was probably familiar with homeowners policies that offer such. In the end, after I told the adjuster that I didn't think I could find an equivalent bike for the price, they came back with a much better offer! They dropped the depreciation from 10% per year to 2%, which I was very happy with. The original offer was below the eBay value, but the new price is well above. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Insurance coverage for individual items vs a policy Posted: 10 Nov 2018 02:02 AM PST I'm just wondering what's a better deal. Let's say I buy an expensive camera on amazon. I get offered a 4yr protection insurance plan on the item for $55. I noticed these are backed by Allstate or other similar companies. I noticed that my regular insurance carrier (USAA) offers a value item policy. Would this be the same thing? I'm thinking it may be cheaper and more long term, plus it could cover multiple things. Am I missing something? Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Just got a traffic ticket, but officer was nice enough to knock it down to no points. Posted: 09 Nov 2018 04:54 PM PST I have Allstate and we JUST switched. Think it will affect anything? I'm guessing insurances don't care about points? Just that you got a ticket in the first place? [link] [comments] |

Should I apply for a Marketplace plan now, or wait until I get married(planned to be this month) Posted: 09 Nov 2018 10:07 PM PST Currently on my mom's insurance from her job. Just started a new job, not eligible for insurance from them yet. When i get married, i won't have coverage. I was wondering if i should wait until I'm married to get a plan from healthcare.gov, or go ahead and get coverage then try to change my information after we're married? [link] [comments] |
Is there a chance an insurance company will raise my rates because of my car being vandalized? Posted: 09 Nov 2018 03:27 PM PST I recently had a bad vandalism to my car all my tires, and all the glass had to be replaced. Along with other stuff. Almost totaled my car. I filed a police report and just got it back today, the total came out to like $5,500 Is there a chance of this raising my insurance rates? It's the first time anything happened to any of my cars (never been in a crash or anything) and i've been with the same insurance company for maybe 6 or 7 years. [link] [comments] |
How do I inventory items for renter's/homeowner's insurance without paying for an app or service? Posted: 09 Nov 2018 12:48 PM PST Hello! I'm in Texas, and am currently shopping for a policy for renter's insurance. In order to get the most accurate quotes, I've started thinking about accounting for all our personal items. I assumed I'd use Google Drive and start taking pictures of items with sticky notes of their values, and go from there. But is there a better way? If so, has someone done a comprehensive, step-by-step of how they personally inventoried all their property? I assume this could be done without paying for a service or app, and a quick spreadsheet or neatly arranged picture archive might suffice. But I know I'm missing some pieces, so I ask for your advice on what to keep in mind while doing this. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 06:31 PM PST If somebody hit me then gave me their insurance info, does my own insurance company need to get involved or can I take their info and go right to a mechanic with it to charge the bill to them? Thanks in advance. I'm a newby who's never been hit before and never had to use my auto insurance before (and hopefully still don't have to with this incident..) There were no injuries and we didn't call the police to settle anything, since they admitted fault right away and gave their info to me. Location: USA [link] [comments] |
Primary and Secondary (Medicaid) Medical Insurance Posted: 09 Nov 2018 06:02 PM PST Hello I am disabled (crippled as a result of cancer/treatment) and an adult in my 20s. I am still on my mother's insurance through her job, but it has a very high deductible so I have just paid cash for doctor's visits and prescriptions. I was recently approved for my state's medicaid and it became my secondary insurance. Can anyone explain to me how the billing will work with medicaid coupled with high deductible insurance? The member handbook for the company providing the medicaid says providers will bill the primary insurance first and then the secondary will be billed for the remaining amount up to what they would pay if they were the primary insurance. With the high deductible and my not having met it, does this mean they would pay for everything since the primary insurance wouldn't pay for anything? What about copays? The primary insurance lists copays, but those only apply after the deductible has been met... Do I have to pay anything upfront when I see my doctor? I have never had to deal with any of this, so I am entirely ignorant on the subject, I appreciate any help. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 09:16 AM PST Hi everyone, My husband and I own our home and we had a part in our washing machine fail and ruining our floor all the way down to the joists. We were initially going to just fix it ourselves and call it a loss but my husband got a hair and contacted the washing machine manufacturer LG. Apparently this is a VERY known issue with these machines and we are not the first. They asked us to get estimates and we ended up with a 8k, 10k, and 25k estimate. We sent them to the company and they told us that we need to contact our insurance company because this was way too high So we got in touch with our insurance and had a claim adjuster out and they offered us 5.5k (less 1k for deductible) and up to 1.5k more if we show receipts. Two days later LG offers us 5.5k. The question is do we get in trouble if we take both checks? The two checks will just pay for how much this is going to cost but I don't want to commit some kind of fraud. What might this be called in my policy? My insurance company has offered to give us back our deductible if they decide to sue LG and they win. I don't know if they could sue though if we take the money. Sorry if this is obvious I called everyone I know and no one had seen this before. [link] [comments] |
Minor single car incident, best way to proceed? Posted: 09 Nov 2018 05:50 PM PST While in a parking structure, I took a right turn too sharp and caught the corner of a concrete barrier. Visually, damage is minor: paint scratching and a very slight deforming of the panel. Nonetheless, estimates were $1200 out of pocket, and my deductible is $500. Obviously, the $500 is preferable to my bank account, but then there's the premium hike which would easily send me well beyond $1200 in the long run. But from what I understand, there are situations where you don't get a premium hike? This is my first at-fault incident in 10 years. Could I be so lucky given the nature of the incident and my record? Would it hurt to ask, or would that put something on my record? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 07:53 AM PST I was in a car accident in 2016. The other vehicle tried passing a car on a one lane road, resulting in him hitting me head on in the opposite lane. I was taken to the ER and surprisingly I only broke my ankle. My ankle is still swollen to this day and it will never be 100% functional. Fast forward 2 years, I was finally sent a check from his insurance company to cover past and future medical costs for my ankle. While talking with the insurance company, the lady said she was going to take the sum amount we agreed on to pay my current medical bills (ER visit, some physical therapy, things that my insurance company had to pay for, etc.). The check that they sent me is now half the amount we agreed on. I'm in my early 20s so I don't have much experience with insurance companies but is that normal? I feel like I should be paying the bills that are in my name, and I never received a statement saying what all they paid for. Also, will I have to pay taxes on this insurance claim? Any help would be appreciated!! [link] [comments] |
Side-swiped by a semi. It was our fault, but have some questions... Posted: 09 Nov 2018 09:35 AM PST We were side-swiped by a semi last night. It was our fault. No one was injured. There was no damage to the truck. We pulled over and exchanged information. This happened in our older car. We take good care of the car but it's kind of falling apart. We are waiting until we are in a better financial situation to buy a new car. I took it to our mechanic and it is mostly cosmetic damage that took place. We would not be able to afford the repairs to the body of the car. The car is not worth the cost of the repairs. We are in very severe financial straits. We cannot afford a massive insurance hike. My question is this: do we HAVE to make a claim to our insurance? The repairs that we would do on our car we would eventually be able to pay out of pocket. We feel this would be more cost effective than an insurance hike. We live in Pennsylvania. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can give. [link] [comments] |
Wife's open enrollment period doesn't line up Posted: 09 Nov 2018 04:25 PM PST My wife is currently unemployed and was just offered a new job at a large company that includes health insurance. She is currently covered under my employer's plan. We have a HDHP w/ HSA. Her new employer has an awesome PPO plan that we want to sign her up for. However, if she signs up for this:
This is ridiculously complicated for such a common event. [link] [comments] |
FSCS compensation and company turnover (UK) Posted: 09 Nov 2018 12:16 PM PST If a business is insured with a carrier that fails I understand the FSCS will pay 90-100% of claims, however I was told that the businesses turnover can affect how much they are paid out (if T/O goes above £1mil.) looking on the FSCS website I can't see any reference to this, have I been misinformed? Also, would premiums usually be refunded or is that only in certain circumstances if so what are they? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 09:29 AM PST Lived here 14 years. No claims first 7 years. 3 small clones.

Posted: 09 Nov 2018 02:49 PM PST I told her her best move was to call her OWN insurance company because calling his will only hurt her, but I was kind of guessing. He was speeding and she was pulling out of a parallel parking spot: Should she call her insurance and make her case, or is it too late? Should she call the other person's insurance? State Farm vs Protective Life - Life Insurance - 26/yr male Posted: 09 Nov 2018 02:37 PM PST Hi all, I'm a healthy 26-year-old man, never smoked or drank alcohol. Pretty low-risk. Look at memes on computer all day and don't do anything dangerous. So, last year I got State Farm Life insurance for 1M for classic 10 years. That $43/mo + $7/mo for Wavier of Premium. 1M for $50/mo. State Farm
Then, I decided to shop around on term4sale.com and saw that 1M for classic 10 years, for me, was $30/mo. With $7 WoP.. it'd be $37, so it seems like $5 more..? So now I just locked myself into a local insurance provider down the road who helped me get Protective Life: Protective Life from Local Company
At this point, I am currently paying for two life insurance policies and I'm not so sure. Which is best? Am I getting ripped off by State Farm or my local insurer? Do I just get a new State Farm policy for 20 years? Before I left, I asked State Farm to give me a quote for a 20-year Return of Premium. [QUOTE] State Farm (Return of Premium)
By end of year 20, I'm age 46, I would get $51,996 USD back from RoP. As I was looking at term4sale.com, I did a 20 Year Level Term Guaranteed and most were in the $40ish dollar range... I would appreciate some guidance. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2018 01:03 PM PST hello! my vision insurance was ending in October so I scheduled an eye exam for September ( the yearly exam) everything was normal, got my prescription for both glasses & contacts and then I left. Yesterday, I received a bill for an eye exam in addition to contact fitting for $293 that the insurance isn't covering. I didn't receive a contact fitting? nothing out of the usual was done in this eye exam and I typically get these done 2x a year ( I have America's best eye program as well) can I dispute this charge? I of course wouldn't have gotten anything done had I known my insurance wouldn't cover it. ( i. he asked too dilute my eye and I said no) What can I do? [link] [comments] |
