    Bittersweet feeling...

... of waiting to put monies to work while watching the existing portfolio go for a swan dive.

I am not as brave as those who say that time in market Beats timing the market. I have part of my portfolio in stocks and a part in cash. I do have a list of companies that I like and am just waiting.

    Complementary Skills to Pickup?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 12:53 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

Recently, I've been thinking a lot more about what skills would be important going forward as an investor. I'm wondering if there're any additional skills (on the more technical side, e.g. big data analysis, programming languages, etc.) that you think will be critical going forward even as a fundamental analyst. I know it's a shitty time right now to be a value investor, but beyond that I also wonder if it's possible to really have a differentiated edge (instead of just cruising along on cyclical companies). Part of this came up from my fund having a really really bad year and I keep hearing about more of my friends joining quantamental funds and funds with greater analytical insights into large and difficult to access data sets and I just got angsty. Curious to know if anyone else has also worried about this.

Compensation at large buyside hedge fund?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:23 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

Just discovered this subreddit! I was wondering if I could get some insight on what buyside comp looks like for a large hedge fund. By way of background, I have 2 years at a IB and 1.5 years at PE and just finishing up my last year in business school (HBS).

I have an offer for $800,000 all-in comp at a large buyside HF ($5bn AUM). I'm wondering what the market range is for comp for someone at my level. I only have one other data point of a friend who is at at $2bn long-short HF who got paid $1.3mm his first year so I'm wondering if I should negotiate or see what other offers are out there (in the processes at a couple of other funds).

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where can I find conference call notes for foreign companies?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 11:52 AM PDT

Specifically looking for transcripts for conf call notes for Delivery Hero (listed in Frankfurt) and Meituan Dianping (listed in Hong Kong).

I have access to CapIQ but there are no transcripts for either of these companies.

    Would be grateful!
