Best ways to approach 250k parent plus loans under father in law's account? Posted: 28 Oct 2018 06:42 PM PDT Let's see if I can summarize as best as I can and keep it simple... My husband and his siblings have Parent Plus Loans under my father in law's name all in the same accounts and intermingled. It is at 250k now at 7.9% interest and they are in deferment until mid November but interest continues to accrue. Roughly 45% of these loans were for my husband and the rest were for his siblings. My FIL will not be making these payments since these are the kid's loans and he is in more than $100k other debt already anyways. There is sibling agreement that everyone will contribute their fair percentage to pay the monthly bills when the time comes. Now my question is what is the best course of action from here? My FIL is in poor health with diabetes, and their plan is to make minimal payments and apply for low income repayments for 25 years or until he passes away. Is this a wise strategy or do we need to aggressively pay off all these loans while he is still living? Is continued forbearance an option to delay payment? All siblings have vastly differing incomes and personal student loans so this is on lower priority for everyone. [link] [comments] |
Would you move to Maine to pay off your student debt? Posted: 28 Oct 2018 02:12 PM PDT I recently was sent this video by World Economic Forum: https://facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=572284906556136&id=7746841478&refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&_rdr It's about the state of Maine now offering tax credits on student loans. Would you move there to pay off your loans more easily? Why/why not? Curious to read and discuss some of your perspectives. [link] [comments] |

What are your experiences with Discover student loans? Posted: 28 Oct 2018 08:48 AM PDT I will need to take out a loan fairly soon, and Discover is the main company I'm considering. Would anyone be able to recommend or tell me about their experience with them? [link] [comments] |
