    Best Training methods you've seen?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:39 AM PDT

Good day to you r/sales redditors! I've been a lurker here for a while, but wanted to post and ask you folks a few questions.

I'm in the process of putting some training material together for my organization (SaaS, logistics). I wanted to ask the community what training you all have seen that has been good? And what training have you seen that was worthless?

I've got a lot of good material from past jobs/experience, but still wanted to hear from you folks. What training have you seen that was effective?

I should add - this will be for new hires that have limited sales experience. Ultimately I'll be looking at continuing education as well - but that's down the road.

    Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

How many cold/warm calls are prospects getting now compared to 10/20/40 years ago?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:42 AM PDT

My intuition is that while individual prospects within the company are getting fewer calls, companies are getting more calls now than before. What do you think and why do you think that is?

How do your integrate humor into your calls?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:23 AM PDT

Is there something you consistently say on your calls because you know it will make the customer laugh? Inbound/outbound

When getting the appt I'd always say "if you're not interested in the first three minutes I'll HANG UP ON MYSELF"

    Have fun out there

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:57 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I just wanted to share a quick story. I've been sort of in a post-success hangover that sort of carried over from one job to a new role. I came into outside sales 5 years ago with a bang and was rocking until my wife and I just recently had our first baby, then everything changed. This was about 15 months ago. I lost all motivation and was really barely getting by.

I was tired all the time, grumpy and just not happy at work. This sort of led into a circular issue for me in that I wasn't happy so I wasn't selling. And later come to find out I wasn't selling because I wasn't happy.

Sales takes a lot of energy and willpower to be the force of change.

Just a friendly reminder to HAVE FUN! Remember why you do what you do. I usually hate that typical corporate bullshit "find your why" but it might apply.

    Keep your chin up

    edit

I forgot to mention the most important thing of my post haha -- I broke the slump and have a solid Q4 lining up

I need advice on keeping motivated

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:01 AM PDT

I'm good at my Sales Job, I bring in lots of new clients. Lately, it been hard to be motivated. I have stopped following the practice of always striving to improve my self. I have been doing a half ass job on my meeting notes and reports and feel bad about it.

Part of the issue is I am a high performer and keep getting pushed to do more. The VP of sales constantly badgering me when he walks by my desk this is starting to cause me to no like my Job and feel very burnt out. he does not do this to the other sales team members who are not performing that well.

I also wonder in the back of my mind if I am not being treated equally because I am Gay. I have outperformed anyone who ever has the inside sales position. I inherited 200k in accounts and grew it to 450k and I am on track to grow it to 1M this year. The guy who got promoted from this position to outside sales did not make as much as I did for the company. I have asked about promotions and each time I meet the goals set they move the goal on me. The goals seem to be much higher then the guy I mentioned who is no longer with the company. I hope that I am wrong.

My question is how do I keep my self-motivated and focus on improving my skills? Also, how do I deal with burn out?

Got a job as a Financial Advisor!

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 11:46 AM PDT

Hi guys! After a 2 month hiring process I've finally been hired as an FA. My next steps are 3 months of paid licensing training and 6 months of industry training.

I'm very happy about this! Are there any FA's here that could give me some tips? I'm 22 years old with a BS in psychology and a few years of customer service under my belt.

Listed names for sales when job hunting

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:47 AM PDT

A while ago I saw a thread about what reps prefer to call themselves so that they don't give off the snake oil salesman vibe. As a follow up on this, I was wondering what kind of names, when listing vacancies on job searching websites such as Indeed, will sales roles often fall under? Currently trying to find something good for entry level. Time to get things on track.

What Are Your Opinions On Shopify Affiliate Marketing ?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:46 AM PDT

    Hello there, fellow Redditors!

I have been trying to get into affiliate marketing for some time now. If you have ever wandered across the web, like me, searching for knowledge to build up an online business, you KNOW that the results are always contradictory. I legit have found more than several dozen methods in the past month. I am writing this post to inquire about your experience in this field, and your success, be it minor or inconsequential.

I am so confused right now. A friend of my mine sent me this webinar (bit.ly/2ETCvXa) on Shopify affiliate marketing and the method seems fruitful, but I am not sure if I am willing to spend my money and time chasing after this. Your thoughts and experiences on this matter would be much appreciated!

    With regards!

Favorite CRM? With a hint of task management?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:21 AM PDT

I just woke up and realized I need to get my shit organized. For the longest time I counted on my brain to remember who to follow up with, but.. that is just not realistic.

I've also thrown some new campaigns up, so I'm getting more leads than before.. and just need to get my contacts in order.

Any easy to use CRM tools you all recommend? Maybe something with a 'task management' (to do list) implemented?

    Thanks!

    Started cold calling TODAY

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 06:59 AM PDT

Started cold calling today, trying to sell an IT system to the emergency services, this thing costs tens of thousands of pounds,

Any advice? Is it a numbers game? Should I be conversational? Should I skip right to the benefits?

Sales Engineer CERTs for AI / Machine Learning and Distributed Systems

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 06:59 PM PDT

    Hi everybody,

I am moving to a sales engineer position and am considering which field to specialize in / prepare for. I have a BS in CS and have done technical sales / consulting & engineering for 5 years now - all in web app and design space.

I am in no rush for my next position other than professional motivation and a passion for the work, so I have all the time necessary to best qualify myself for the next role. I am thinking something in the AI / machine learning arena, or distributed systems.

Does anybody here have any experience in pre-sales / sales engineering in these fields? Any idea on recommended CERTs, courses, or preparation methods that I can look in to? My initial thoughts are thinking machine learning online courses to get the basics down. Same for distributed systems. If anybody knows specific CERTs though I could use to guide best topics for teaching myself that would be awesome.

Any help / consideration much appreciated!

How to get on large deal team?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:40 PM PDT

    Hello,

I have a question for enterprise/government sales professionals operating in the technology industry that are involved in complex selling:

For an mid-level account executive, what are the paths forward and skills to focus on to get on a large deal team?

I define large deals as anything that is over $50M, involving multiple parties (customer, company, partners, governments in some cases, etc) and taking over 2 years to transact.

I ask because a 2 year sales cycle is complex enough, and there isn't a training program out there for large deals as they are so few and far between. That leaves strategic career moves to acquire the skills and experience needed. What does that look like for those who have gone down this path?

How does the presidents club work?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:25 PM PDT

I've always worked non-traditional sales roles and this has never really been a thing or a factor. I'm also not traditionally trained in sales either. So can anyone give me a run down? Some google searches didn't really give me much more than it's a "paid trip which you have to pay the taxes on".

Agency Sales: Overcoming a lack of Vertical Experience

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 10:18 PM PDT

We have a specific client who had selected our proposal as the top one, but after diving a bit deeper into the KPIs and their lack of experience marketing into our niche combined with our lack of specific experience in their vertical it's causing the buyer to get cold feet.

How do you overcome that hurdle when a client is concerned you have a lack of experience in their needs even though your strategy proposal is solid and other experiences are transferable to their industry?

    ISO: Free Prospecting Tools

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 01:15 PM PDT

I work for a small company (23 employees) that's in the events/concert touring industry as a supplier. I was hired as a hunter sales rep, however I have no "paid for" tools at my disposal to prospect. The owner is not willing to pay for Sales Navigator or Zoominfo and my only option so far has been using targeted Google searches. It sucks. I'm hoping someone out there has some tricks or tools that they have been using in a similar situation to dig up prospects in a specific industry. So far i have used up my Sales Navigator free trial and I use Hunter to find contact info if a site has it. My Linkedin has hit its commercial use limit too..

Most lucrative industry to sell for?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 01:13 PM PDT

What is the most lucrative industry to sell for?

Medical devices, pharmaceuticals, tech, etc? I used to work as an analyst for a fortune 100 medical device company and I know the field reps there made $200-400K on average.

I also used to work for a tech company and the average rep there only made around $100K.

    Curious what everyone else's thinks?
