Are insurance companies ever willing to re-issue a check to a third party?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 04:46 PM PDT

I've got a situation that results from unfortunate timing. Any advice would be very welcome. My father's home was in a trust. My brother and I are trustees of that trust, and my father is the beneficiary of it. The homeowners policy listed the insured party as "Me and my brother, trustees of the 'father' trust."

We recently had to take the house out of the trust and put it back in my father's name, and then before we were able to also change the policy, suffered covered damage to the home. So now I've got this check from the insurance company, made out to "Me and my brother, trustees of the 'father' trust." I want to just sign it over to my father and deposit it in his account, but the bank won't let me. They also won't let me open an account in the name of the trust without both me and my brother being present, and he's on the other side of the country.

So, I'm hoping I can just call the insurance company and ask them to re-issue the check directly to my father. Anybody have any idea if that's a thing that they'll do? If not, any advice would be much appreciated.

Friend driving my car hit another car after cutting us off. Car fled off (hit and run) leaving my vehicle totaled. What next?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 01:34 AM PDT

We made a claim explaining the situation but what does the outcome look like for both of our finances. We both have liability coverage and are currently in the process of making a police report. However if the person is not found how will that leave us?

    Insurance calculation for Rare Plants

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 06:44 PM PDT

Hello, r/insurance! I am hoping that you could help me with a likely strange and stupid question.

So I've decided to do extremely detailed records for everything me and hubby own just in case something does happen one day and our home is wiped out. If this something happens, I want to have clear, obsessive-compulsive-level records and receipts for our home insurance. Tedious, you may say, but I'm one of those weirdos who loves lists, spreadsheets, organization, etc.

In any case, everything inside the house is easy, item x that I paid y for, blah blah, receipt. But then I get to my enclosed, screened-in patio. See, I collect carnivorous plants, and I have dozens upon dozens of potted species of Nepenthes (tropical pitcher plants), Sarracenia (North American pitcher plants), Dionaea (Venus fly trap), Cephalotus (West Australian pitcher plant), etc. I know what I paid for these plants (around $20-100, depending on the plant). Some are more rare than others. For example, you may run across a Nepenthes ventrata or Nepenthes alata at your local Lowe's or Home Depot, but not Nepenthes veitchii or Nepenthes ampullaria.

However, my problem is growth. The way it works in the carnivorous plant industry (and other plant industries, I can imagine), is that the more mature the plant, the higher its value. Some of my plants are over a decade old, if not more, very handsome and healthy since I care for them every day. I have some not so rare species, and others that are seed grown hybrids and extremely rare.

I also grow other plants that are somewhat rare in cultivation, such as vanilla orchid and dragonfruit. Same quandary, I've no idea how to calculate a price based upon plant age, and a bit obscure plants at that. Does anyone have any ideas for this?

P.S., I did try googling, but understandably, its mostly tree insurance sites that come up.

Rear ended. Vehicle going to be "total loss". What are my options?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 05:07 PM PDT

    California

Thank you in advance for your help.

I was rear ended last week. I drive an old F150, the person who rear ended me drives a truck too. Person who rear ended me took responsibility with their insurance company. I initially didn't anticipate contacting his insurance as I did not see much damage except for a bent bumper, however I went to meet the adjuster. The adjuster pointed out that the bumper was bent because there was actually frame damage.

The adjuster believes that the cost of repairs would exceed the value of my truck. He took some pictures and said that the claim handler would contact me in a few days. What should my next steps be? What should I expect to happen?

    Thank you.

For in car accident and other driver wants me to lie [TX]

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 10:30 AM PDT

I got in a car accidentally this morning where I had a green light and the other driver failed to yield while turning, there was a deputy right behind me and got the whole thing on dash cam and said the other driver was at fault.

But when it came down to exchanging insurance I found out the driver was a minor driving his girlfriend's car, and gave me her insurance, it looks like she is under her parents policy, but he came back to me and asked that I lie tell my insurance that she was the driver and not him, which sounds like a bad idea. He is the one listed on the accident report given to me by the police.i dont have collision coverage so that's another issue.

Not sure what to do because it sounds like the driver didn't have his own insurance due to a previous accident. im sitting in the ER right now waiting for the dealer to call me about the car. What should my next steps be should I get a lawyer or hand the insurance information over? And who should I say is the driver? Or is it not going to matter since the boyfriend is on the accident report?

Also something interesting I noticed is that there is a disclaimer on the other vehicles insurance that it is a named driver policy and anyone listed is not covered

Edit: so know it's stupid to lie, i never was going to I was just curious. When I called to file a claim they said I didn't have collision and they would need to go to the drivers insurance but if their policy does not cover them am I SOL barring suing the guy?

Rear-ended, have no collision coverage, can't find their insurance company anywhere online

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 06:36 AM PDT

Last weekend I got rear ended by an 88 year old in Florida while I was working. He could barely walk even with the assistance of a cane and his excuse was that his engine cut off and as a result his brakes were unresponsive. As we were waiting for the State Trooper to arrive he was trying to find his registration and insurance and couldn't, but somehow produced them later for the Trooper. Long story short, the Trooper revoked his license and gave him a citation. I put in a claim to GEICO, my insurance company but since I stupidly don't have collision coverage, I have to go through the other parties insurance to file a claim. The problem is, I can't find his insurance company listed anywhere online. On the Driver Information Exchange that I was given from the Trooper, his insurance company is listed as "Alpha Property and Casualty Insurance Company". I have even called my insurance and had them try to locate them but to no avail. On a side note, I have some decent lower back pain ever since the accident which I can only attribute to getting hit but it's nothing I can't handle pain wise. Not sure what my next step should be.

Rear ended while driving my dad's car in the US, Insurance saying it is not covered?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:28 PM PDT

Last weekend I was driving down in my family's car to Seattle from Vancouver BC, someone rear ended me while i was stopped at a red light. The car was from Washington.

I reported the claim to my insurance company ICBC and so far they collected some information from me. My dad who's name is on the car's insurance got an email from the adjuster later in the day saying according to their information, the car did not meet a condition of insurance so they may not pay him anything for the claim and that we may need to pay them for any loses for the other party that is our fault. I have not heard back from the adjuster since he got that email.

I thought ICBC was supposed to contact the other party's insurance to have them pay me? or is it because I'm driving my dad's car voided some condition for their policy?

New Job - Insurance wont kick in for almost 90 days. Cobra is incredibly expensive, is there a supplemental insurance I can get for 30 days?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:38 AM PDT

I thought I was clever. New Job started this past week and informed me that I must wait 60 days before insurance benefits kick in. What I didn't realize was that its the month following the 60 days. So, more like 90 days.

I figured I wouldn't do anything, if we had something catastrophic, I would just signup for Cobra ($1,400 per month). That would've been fine accept now I need to account for the approximately 25 days between Cobra and new insurance....

    What do you recommend?

    Question about insurance premium..

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 03:59 PM PDT

I had an at fault accident. I filed a police report since there was minor damages to someone else's property. The estimate for my damages are around $1000. My deductible is $500, with $200 of that already being paid for my windsheild. My question is will my premium go up at renewal time because I have a reported at fault accident? I wasn't going to file a claim because I didn't want the increase in premium, but if it will increase due to the reported accident, then I am thinking why not file for my damages. Any thoughts? Edit: Alabama.

Hit and run. Dented fender. Worth going through insurance?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 03:34 PM PDT

Somebody hit my car and fled the scene. Dented the fender and door but not terribly. Small scratches on the door. It happened in an area with no cameras and no witnesses. My buddy has a dent puller and I have touch up paint. Should I even go through the hassle of insurance or just deal with it myself? I really don't think paying the $500 deductible and losing my car for a couple of days is worth it.

    College Student Car Insurance Question

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 03:11 PM PDT

Currently, I am a beneficiary of my family's car insurance plan with SafeCo. In January I moved from Illinois to Florida for college. The problem is my car registration expired in July and I need to know the best way to get it registered again. My mother was under the advice that because I'm a college student I can keep my Illinois insurance and Illinois registration despite the fact that I'm in a different state. However, when my registration expired I never got new tags. All I know to do would be to get Florida registration which would require me to get Florida insurance which would cost me around $400 and almost double my Family's total car insurance costs.

Does anybody know what the best thing to do at this point is? Is there anyway to keep my Illinois insurance and registration? Or do I have to spend all that money to get the Florida registration and insurance.

Also, I did transfer my licence from an Illinois one to a Florida one because I thought I had to.

Insurance company for local utility district trying deny responsibility?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 09:29 AM PDT

    Greetings,

About 2 weeks ago we had a water leak in our house that did significant damage due to a cracked water filter. Over the last few months we have had more than a few plumbing issues arise from the utility district dramatically increasing the water pressure in our neighborhood. Each time something was damaged they have come out fixed the issue and covered any damage. However, in this incident their insurance company said they had "serious concerns" over whether they were at fault.

I am not sure how to fight the issue so I am seeking advice. When the incident happened the utility district initially replaced the filter, fixed the plumbling, repaired duct work that was torn down due to water, pulled up all the flooring, took out our cabinetry, and brought in a cleaning service to dry out all the areas. In my mind that is basically an assumption of responsibility. I don't think they would have done all that on their dime if they didn't think it was on them. Am I wrong in that line of thinking?

I am just trying to find recourse here if they try to deny to help repair the damage done to our home.

Car turned left into me on a motorcycle - what is practical to do?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 02:24 PM PDT

So I have full coverage but going through my own insurance will cost me a $2000 deductible. I filled a claim with the other person's insurance but I've read on Yelp now that they're one of the worst insurance companies to deal with ever. I'm with State Farm the other driver is with Country-Wide insurance.

I want to get my motorcycle repaired, the accident is 100% the other person's fault because they turned left directly into me. If their insurance company is being slow, is it practical to then file the claim (I've reported it but as record-only) with my insurance company, pay the $2000 deductible, and then sue the other driver and insurance company if they don't pay on a timely basis?

Motorcycle Accident - Health Insurance and Med Pay Coverage - Subrogation?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:51 PM PDT

    Background:

I went down on my motorcycle during heavy rain. Low speed accident and very little damage to the bike. However, I required an ER visit, an overnight stay in the hospital, and later surgery on my shoulder.

I have a high-deductible healthcare plan. Deductible is $2000 and then 20% co-pay to a max out of pocket of $5500. I'm guessing my responsibility will total $3000-4000.

I also had comprehensive coverage on the bike with $2500 Med Pay, but not collision. It sounds like I can only get the Med Pay since this was a "collision". No big deal, the bike is cheap to fix.

    Question:

I'm hoping to use my Health Insurance as the primary coverage and then apply the Med Pay to the deductible/co-pay. This will limit my out of pocket costs substantially. However, my Health Insurance has asked for the details of my motorcycle policy. I was surprised by that so I did some research and came across the term "subrogation" and it seems like my health insurance may be able to take the Med Pay money to reimburse themselves. Is that correct? I'm the one paying the premium - the benefit should be to me not my health insurance carrier, right?

State is Wisconsin if that makes a difference.

    Thank you!

Water damage in the home - insurance gave the go ahead to open up the walls/ceiling to stop mold now they are saying it is all old work(the open walls) not from recent water damage and decline everything!

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:35 PM PDT

We bought this house this year and got storm damage in July the house started leaking nearly everywhere. All state said go ahead and have someone open up the walls and ceiling and they will send an adjuster out. Adjuster comes and writes up that this was an old refurbish job (wtf???) because he didn't see any rubble. All the rubble was bagged up and in the basement because of toddlers running around and not once did he ask to see any of this.

I provided before during and after pics. Literally pics of water coming in, pics of everything together and pics of the contractors opening up the walls/ceiling - even pics of the rubble!

Our insurance covers water damage at a minimum how the hell can they do this? We keep trying to get them to send an adjuster out to look at the damn rubble but they refuse to send any one.

All state are the worst company I've ever dealt with!! Seriously if anyone is with all state for home insurance please reconsider and go with someone else. Ugh.

    Health Insurance Questions

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 12:55 PM PDT

So, I'm trying to figure out health insurance with my girlfriend, and there are a good few things I'm very confused about.

    1. What is "The Marketplace" exactly? I see it everywhere, and I vaguely understand it, but that's about it.
    2. I also see that open enrollment for the Marketplace is starting November 1st, but is that different than the enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act? Or is that the same?
    3. How do I know what kind of insurance is best to get for her? It would be only for her in this case. She's working a part-time job and also a college student, so obviously money is tight, and she's, I believe legally as well as financially, not a dependent of her mother.

I've already done some research, and tried to look at Medicaid through the state, but I know that won't work where I live, because of all the requirements there needs to be to be considered for it here. This insurance is mainly so we can start working on her depression, which is becoming a bigger and bigger issue. Birth control is another factor, but our focus is mental health. Any help is greatly appreciated, and if I need to clarify anything, please let me know. Thanks!

helping friend with undiagnosed spectrum disorder get health insurance, so she can get diagnosed

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:22 AM PDT

NYS. okay. so i'm trying to help out a friend who is most definitely on the spectrum, and struggles to get jobs because of her ASD, and does not do well with front-facing jobs because of interpersonal issues from ASD. she's currently working at a clothing chain, doing re-shops from a fitting room. she makes about 10.40 an hour. she's been in denial about her ASD, but just recently accepted that maybe there's something different about her, and is willing to see a doctor. the problem is, she doesn't have health insurance, so I had her go through NY's marketplace, which had her call. they offered her two of the lowest level bronze plans for about 50-55 dollars a month.. but with 4 to 5 thousand dollar deductibles. I firmly believe that with a diagnosis, she will qualify for Medicaid and possibly SSDI, but she cannot afford to get diagnosed at this point. how can we work this out?

Claiming against UK car insurance company as third party

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 04:59 AM PDT

    Hi

My car was recently hit while parked and a witness took the reg number of the car involved. Driver did not stop.

Contacted the police, but these days, unless the police were standing next to it as it happens, they are not interested, which means I am doing this as a third party with their insurance company.

The driver confirmed to the police he was driving at the time, and was in my road when it happened, but does not remember hitting my car. He told his insurance company he couldn't have been the one to hit me as he was at work at the time.

His insurance company told me if they pay out, they will write my car off. Can they do this??

Does no show (void) air plane ticket is refunded by travel insurances for a covered reason?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:40 AM PDT

    Hi,

It seems that no one can answer my question so I'll ask it here! I know that most (or all) travel insurances compagnies don't refund an air plane ticket if the airline company gives a travel credit if you cancel your trip. What if you don't even cancelyour trip and just have a no show (which will completely void the ticket and you lose the whole value, even a travel credit) because of a last minute covered situation that was out of your control?
