Who was your best boss? What made them so exceptional? Sales and Selling

Who was your best boss? What made them so exceptional?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 12:13 PM PDT

A few things that stick out from my best managers/directors:

1, Cool as a cucumber. These guys are never talking about how busy they are and are never rattled.

2, Deep understanding of the product - especially how it 'fits' in a companies overall business strategy.

3, Kind of nuts. Sales directors that I loved working for are always a little bit off. They wake up super early, have kind of unusual personal lives, do lots of interesting things outside of work, and usually do things that are a little bit unexpected. the opposite of boring.

How do I start a sales position from scratch and hire my first sales agent?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 06:14 AM PDT

What is the best course of action to start my sales team? I am a B2B company that specializes in consulting and integration of POS systems. I bootstrapped my business and have a limited budget. So any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

You purchased the domain name 'wellsfargo.com' during the internet's infancy. How would you sell it to them?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 09:29 AM PDT

My question is how would you build up value for something that hasn't really caught on yet, but you know it will? You own a domain name of one of the major players early in the internet days. How would you make the most of that opportunity?

    medical sales associate sales rep

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:11 AM PDT

what does this position usually make in total - after base and commission? I can't seem to find much reliable info on this. Again, talking specifically about an entry level associate sales rep role in medical sales.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 12:35 PM PDT

Hello, I do outsourced IT sales for a company, my company is apart of a local chamber of commerce. When we joined, we were given a list of all chamber members contact names and numbers. What sort of approach should I be using when trying to make a sale to these contacts?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Who has experience WFH or remote?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 07:46 AM PDT

Morning all, happy Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone here works from home or from a remote location?

I transitioned into software sales at the end of last year and noticed that there are people (engineers, ae's, bdr's) who work from home a few times a week, and some who actually just work remote. For example, there is an AE on my team who works under my manager but actually splits his time working from home or out of another office across in the Midwest (we rarely see him but he's on the phone with us every morning for our morning meeting).

I'm wondering if anyone deals with similar situations and what that's like. Is there a way to look for jobs in sales where you know you're applying for a position like this? Also, does anyone have experience working for a company/team/office in Europe but living in the states/maybe the other way around too?

REALLY struggling with sales on the phone. Low close rate. Any advice would be amazing

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 12:58 PM PDT

Made a post a few weeks ago, I'm selling home security systems online. It's all DIY, we're highly rated (pretty much one of the highest you can find), safe technology, competitively priced, and all leads are warm or semi warm. People have to fill out info online for us to reach out or they call in.

I just can't get people to commit. I get a "I need to think about it, do more research, get more quotes, talk to wife" and then you never hear from most of these people again. What's some advice to get these people to buy? It's a no brainer, customers will say "I saw you ranked #1 on x.com" and they still wAnt to "shop". We offer 2 months money back guaranteed to try it out as well. How can I get more people to commit? What else do I say? I can offer more money off the bat to get people started as well, I just need help properly leveraging. I'm new to phone sales, went though training and did about a week or so calls on my own and I'm struggling. Any help would be great. I'd even pay a mentor. Thanks

    State Farm internship

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 09:51 AM PDT

Hey r/sales I'm a sophomore in college going into my junior year and I've had an internship at State Farm for about a month now. It's been going okay but not as great as I thought. I've only made 2 sales and I'm having trouble figuring out why. My day mostly consists of cold calls off of an older leads list but I also go out occasionally to businesses and local residential areas. I've been to a couple of networking events which was great for learning but didn't pull any solid leads or call backs. Over the month I've gotten a lot better at keeping people on the phone and getting quotes but not closing. Even when I'm providing better coverage for cheaper they ask me to call back and never pick up when I do (this has happened roughly 4-5 times). I've tried different variations of our script and I've tried to build somewhat of a pipeline with what I've got. I definitely need to work on adding value during my conversations but it's hard when people just want to get you off the phone. Any advise on prospecting on my own or to better close some of these aged leads would help (or any sales advice in general). Thanks

About to start sales for my company and I have a few questions :)

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 07:20 AM PDT

Hi guys, my partners and I manufacture safety products in China and are about to start selling in the US. I was hoping to ask a few questions.

    1. Do any of you sell on Amazon? What's that experience like?

    2. Should we make a seperate account in our main bank account for sales revenues or have it come in the same main account?

    3. Do any of you sell on your website? How do you process payments? Do you use Shopify? Squarespace? Or something entirely different?

    4. For vendors invoices - do you suggest we accept WIRE, ACH, or CHECKS? All 3?

    Thanks!

    Insurance sales

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 08:17 PM PDT

I was hired by Prudential, passed all my licensing exams, and now have business cards with the title "Financial Advisor" printed on them.

Any advice on where to start to make sales and build my business? I've been making calls the past two weeks to "orphans" but don't really know what to say to book an appointment nor do I know really what to do to find clients on my own.

This is my first sales job.

BDR Interviewing for Internal Hunter (Jr. AE) Role

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 08:23 PM PDT

    Hi Sales Community,

I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be at a company who values promoting from within and is giving me the opportunity to move up from my current BDR role. As far as background, I have been at the BPO (outsourcing) company for about 14 months. Primary KPIs included meetings held and Validate (stage 2) pipeline. Exceeded KPIs every quarter (granted they changed every quarter too). Good dynamic with about 80% my colleagues. Always natural friction with marketing. The new role is a full hunter role with a quota. $4M ACV per year. $16M ACV in new opportunity creation.

How can I translate my success from being a BDR into a Hunter? I plan on showing my track record of finding a way into accounts and establishing sales plays that have turned into real opportunities. Then I plan to show a strategy for what I would do in 30/60/90 days and my top 10 targets and sales plays.

I'd like your help in how I can present this in a different way. Resume doesn't seem right here. Dossier could be the way to go? I want to tell a story...your input is appreciated.

    Dentist wanting to learn sales

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 12:00 AM PDT

Hi, I am currently in dental school and about to get into the real world of dentistry in the next year or so. We are constantly taught that "sales" has no place in dentistry but I look at things differently and know that "everything is sales". Anyways I want to work on my communication skills and learn the basics of sales in a professional like setting, selling and communicating with patients. Where do you guys recommend I should start? My brother is killing it in medical sales and recommended I get a job at a used car dealership while I am in school.

In my third week of first sales job and feeling stressed

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 04:29 PM PDT

Just finished my third week. The expectation is a schedule 6 demos a week and I've only scheduled 3 total in my first three weeks. My boss is one of those guys who nothing will ever be good enough for. He recently sent me an email and asked why I wasn't prospecting after he had told me prospecting doesn't need to be my focus right now. He never taught me how to prospect, either. I'm stressed as shit. I am doing exactly what has been told of me (and made WAY more calls then all the other reps) but it feels like I'm focussing on the wrong things. HELP!

    Sales Equipment Problems

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 03:12 PM PDT

My company sells a very niche product. They cost around $10K and customers typically buy 1-10 (sometimes 40) at a time. I have zero luck getting into the market, most "cold" calls I do are not truly cold, I know the lead is in the right industry, right position, and the like, but I can't get more than 5 minutes in with them before they say "not interested" and hang up.

What approach should I take to get more customer interest and feed back during the cold calling portion? Once we can get them to watch a product demonstration we have a conversion rate of about 80%.

Advice for door knocking for leads?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 02:09 PM PDT

My boss wants me to go around to independent medical offices this week and get at least 50 business cards. We're a financial planning firm and we've had a lot of success helping medicinal professionals better manage their practices and giving them more free time so it's not like it's a super difficult thing to do. All I have to do is get the cards and then call and set up appointments. Calling warm leads isn't hard for me but I have very very little experience going door to door. Any advice?
