Who is at fault? Car parked illegally blocking garage, got backed into.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 09:38 PM PDT

So I have a bad neighbor who likes to park and block my and my neighbors garages. I've reported her to the apartment complex once when she parked here for 4 hours blocking both of us in. Today I see her park again and a few minutes later I hear a thud. My neighbor unknowingly backed into her (bad neighbors) black car (with all lights off) parked behind his garage. She's now trying to get him to pay for part of the repair. She didn't want the police called so I stayed out of it and let my neighbor decide and just gave him the non-emergency number (he didn't call). Either way, I don't think he owes her a thing and this would be a shared liability since she parked illegally and he didn't do his job to make sure it was clear to back up.

2018 Subaru, not even a year old...hit while on vacation by an older vehicle (they were also out-of-state).

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 08:36 PM PDT

So, today a kid backed up into us and the hitch on his truck ripped a hole in the front bumper of our car. We have State Farm, but his insurance is for a smaller insurance company in his state whom I've never heard of.

Our car is not even a year old and the entire bumper will have to be replaced. I was reading about diminished value and was wondering if this is something we should seek, knowing that many people when it comes to trading in don't want a vehicle with a "history".

Still nervous about calling his insurance to submit a claim, being as he is in NC and we are in TN, but the incident occurred in SC along the coast. This will be a first for me to go thru the process. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before making the call on Monday.

Is this sideswipe an open & shut case?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 02:13 AM PDT

I was driving an Acura tlx on the right lane of a 2 lane road in Ontario, slow traffic when a car in the left lane about 1 car length ahead of me attempts to merge into my lane and causes damage as described:

My car: Left side of car, scratches from passenger door to front bumper. Sideview mirror pushed forward.

His car, could not see very well (at night) but definitely damage to the right front bumper at least, if not some damage to wheel well.

Dude jumps out of his car asking me why I hit him before speeding off after exchanging insurance companies. I'm fraid the dude is going to claim I tried merging into him, is the damage conclusive enough?

I don't have any witnesses or a dashcam.

I think Wal-Greens and Walmart have been screwing me over- but if I'm wrong, I'm mega screwed!

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 11:53 AM PDT

Edit: Solved! It is a difference between manufacturers, which I had no idea could DRAMATICALLY effect price! I now know I can use the tools I have to find who stocks the cheapest manufacturers, not the cheapest pharmacies themselves. I also will not be afraid to call the insurance myself now and I will talk to my doctor Tuesday about what scripts I can go ahead and set up long term to lock in the best prices. Thanks everyone!

Edit: I live in Colorado, U.S.A.

(TL;DR at bottom) I have terrible health insurance through my husband's work and I am also right now on a huge delicious cocktail of anti-depressants that, retail price, total around $300+ for a months supply of these various pills (not to mention the ones I've had to just not fill, which would up it to nearly $500+).

All we have is an Express Scripts prescription card. Now I will admit, we were ignorant. We went to Walgreens first for a few months and paid full price- we didn't know any better and they sure as shit didn't tell us different. Then I talked to my doctor about it and he showed me how to price compare online. So I switched to Walmart- MUCH better.

But last week I tried GoodRx and found a coupon for a different store (King Soopers). I called ahead and they said they would accept the coupon, but even if something went wrong the site said they would still charge less than Walmart. So I transferred the script. I go to pick it up, give the woman my prescription card and it comes to $1.08. IT COST $72 LESS THAN I HAD BEEN PAYING FOR THAT SCRIPT!!!

Now I don't know what to think. The website for the Express card is useless. It says we are supposed to be paying a copay of 20% and we have a deductible of $14000 (LOL). It shows we have used our copay ONCE: that $1.08. It offers no in plan/out of plan provider info (aka maybe Soopers is in and Walmart isn't?) and when I price compare it says everyone should have charged me the $1.08.

I admit I am ignorant about all of this. I am not used to having my life medicalized. So what the hell is the deal here? I am afraid to switch all my meds to King Soopers b/c what if this is a fluke? Some of my pills on Goodrx say they could be more at retail cost at Soopers then at Walmart.

I also read on the card's website I might be able to be reimbursed from evil Walgreen's for them charging me the full amount and not just the copayment. But why did they do that in the first place? Did they think they were helping me pay down the deductible so they just ignored the co-pay? Or were they ignorant too?

I ask these questions so I can better advocate for myself in the future. Obviously since I have only recently been put on these pills I have had some difficult life events this year, and this extra stress is NOT helping with my healing process, lol. I know the best bet would be to get on a long term 180 day supply but as my dosages are still being tweaked that is not an option right now. Please, any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR: Different pharmacies are charging me wildly different prices for my prescriptions, yet my prescription card says they should all be charging by the specific terms of my Express Scripts Card. How do I make sure they do this, and how do I get reimbursed for the ones who grossly overcharged me?

Disability insurance refusing to reconsider urine retest.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:20 PM PDT

Age 31 male in excellent health.
    Location: California

I'm currently in underwriting for a private life insurance and disability insurance policy with different carriers. $1m 20 year term life, and $6,700/mo private LTD disability insurance to age 65 with all the good riders (own-occ, COLA, future purchase option, residuals, recovery, automatic increase, etc.)

On my paramedical exam my urine tested high for protein in urine, a result of 34 mg/dl, creatinine of 80 mg/dl and a protein-mg/creatinine-mg ratio of 0.44. That caused a decline with a request to retest from the life insurance and a 100% rated up DI policy with benefit period changed from age 65 to 2 year.

I had exercised hard before the tests which apparently is what threw off the results. My agent or no one else told me to not exercise before doing the test. They had me do two urine retests, both showing 4 mg/dl protein, 80 mg/dl creatinine and a protein-mg/creatinine-mg ratio of 0.05.

The life insurance company now issued the preferred policy I applied for. However, the disability insurance company is refusing to reconsider the second test results.

My agent is really frustrated. It's the first for him to ever have a life insurance policy come in better than a disability insurance policy. He sent a copy of the life insurance policy over to the DI company to persuade them to re-evaluate the urine.

What can I do? What are my options? Would I be justified in making a department of insurance complaint?

When other driver exceeds their liability limits on auto policy

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 11:07 PM PDT

My understanding is that when a driver causes injuries & damages that exceed the liability limits of their policy, they would be responsible for anything above that (would have to go to court if they refuse to pay). So what is the purpose of carrying Uninsured Motorist & Underinsured Motorist? That kicks in when the other motorist is underinsured. But if they're underinsured, wouldn't they be responsible for the remaining balance not covered by their policy?

How could I get an insurance company to remove a claim that I filed for minor damage that I ended up fixing myself?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 05:17 PM PDT

My car got hit on the street earlier this year. Luckily, only the side mirror was damaged. When I went outside and noticed what happened, I immediately filed a claim with Progressive. To my surprise, my father was able to quickly replace and install the mirror, and I didn't need to have Progressive involved anymore. They ended up filing a claim with no payout. This has made my insurance premiums go up. How likely are they to remove the claim from my record if I ask them to? The claim filed was a mistake on my end because the damage was so minor that I was able to take care of it myself and Progressive didn't have to get involved. The amount that I'm required to pay for insurance is significantly more than what I was paying before. This is frustrating.

Need help identifying insurance company by policy prefix

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:18 PM PDT

In Alabama, I was rear ended recently and I am trying to figure out if the person responsible has valid insurance (probably doesn't but I want to be sure). She said she had Esurance but I called and they have no record of her, the policy starts with KAL and is followed by seven numbers. Esurance told me their policies always start with PA. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Insurance company acting illegally?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 08:18 PM PDT

Hello Redditors, so recently I moved back home due to a failed relationship, and my insurance company wanted proof of address. I lived at this address(home) when I first signed up, and I didn't have to provide proof when I first signed up, OR when I moved the first time(failed relationship address).

I provided them with 4-5 different documents all stating my address, which included a legal document from the Ministry of Transportation, a lease agreement, and the company said that it is insufficient proof. They wanted my phone records, and a list of all the purchases I've made (How that proves my address MORE than the Ministry is beyond me.)

They accused me of fraud because they said that I could've filled out the rental agreement myself (My handwriting/signature is COMPLETELY different than the landlords), and also said that the Ministry is "Just the government", and is not enough.

Now I've been left without insurance, cannot make it to my second job, and have completely lost my independence, as the place I am living REQUIRES a car to move ANYWHERE.

I told them that I am reporting them to the BBB, and many other sources... suddenly they have called back and are now "reviewing" my account.

Everyone I have talked to has said "I've been driving for over 30 years, moved multiple times, and I have NEVER been asked for what you have been asked to provide.

Everyone I have spoken to has said it is completely illegal to do what they have done, and I wanted to get even more opinions. This seems absolutely ridiculous, and I welcome your thoughts.

I currently don't have any type of health insurance. 10 years ago I had a surgery on the same knee that went very smoothly with my very affordable health care insurance. After 2008, it got really expensive and I couldn't afford it. I was planning on signing up in November for a good Blue Cross policy, but I need something right now. I don't understand this new insurance system at all, help me out with understanding?

    Small business worker's comp question

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:06 AM PDT

I have a very small business. I have a broker whom I've purchased workers comp for a few years. The premium just keeps rising. I sought out another broker/carrier and rec'd a quote for a better deal (more payroll coverage, lower premium). My existing broker said I can't "just switch, you've paid alot into the plan, you can't change classification, if the state audits you, that could be a problem". The classification question arises from getting a quote saying our crew does IT work instead of electrical. Was he just protecting his renewal commission?

Should I just call the carrier and get a better price? I sought out another broker/carrier to save since costs are getting out of control.

I suppose it all comes down to money. Now I am faced with a $4000 premium and the competitive quote was about half that. But I stuck with my broker. Am I being told the truth?

Banking questions for State Farm exam

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:11 PM PDT

Hello, I've been recently employed with State Farm and he has me starting on the banking stuff. This stupid exam I have to get an 80% is killing me and I don't want him to think I'm stupid. So I'm gonna ask some of the questions here I'm less sure on. If anyone could answer these it would be a big help.

-When using State Farm give aways you should(select all that apply): ~Fund accounts as giveaways ~Limit items to ones of nominal use(this is correct) ~Incorporate give aways into raffles and drawing ~Using giveaways as a way of saying thanks to customers(about 90% sure this is right)

-when involved in a community event it is ok for a bank certified agent of team member to(select all that apply) ~Accept bank applications (don't think this is right) ~display a corporate approved banner ~display approved bank marketing brochures ~distribute pens promoting sons basball team (this one I have no idea)

-It is ok to take rate boards from an agents office and use them at an off site special event True or false

-Whom should you notify about a customer complaint that may have a regulatory impact?

-what are some of the seeking points for all the State Farm visa credit cards? ~they all offer visa zero fraud liability ~they all offer cash advance privileges ~they offer visa personal identity theft protection ~They all offer rewards programs (think this is wrong)

I have more but I'll wait to see if anyone is going to answer these and I'll post more

    Thanks in advance

Insurance won't cover accident due to not listing person living with me

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 02:53 PM PDT

When I got car Insurance, I did it in person. Unfortunately, the agent did not mention the part about listing all members of your household regardless if they're driving your vehicle or not, although I will say I should have read in detail, all of it. I was going by what she telling to do (Lesson learned).

Fast forward a few months, and when I get in a small incident in a parking lot with minimal damage. I contact them.

Agent asks if who lives in the household, I tell them. And because it wasn't listed in the documents, they won't be covering any of the damages. I asked if I could retroactively pay off what it would've been with them listed. Nope, can't do that. Now I have a family member who tells me they have to because I was insured at the time of the accident. However, they say because it was not listed, the coverage is basically non-existent and they'll be sending me my payments made since I've signed. I'm sure the insurance company is right. But this family member is heavily into cars and has a lot of experience and knows lots about Motorist laws (It's Florida btw), however, I feel like I may just have to suck it up and pay the damages myself and get new insurance. But I wanted to ask you guys what typically or correctly should happen. I'm all ears!

Allstate Auto Insurance Bait and Switch

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 02:50 PM PDT

Switched to Allstate in April based on the rate. Paid for 6 month policy - in full.

June 22 received a letter that stated the policy price was retroactively being increased because I didn't sign some document. If I sign the attached doc, said the latter, the policy would not be increased in price. No document was attached to the letter.

I took until June 25 for Allstate, the agency in Houston TX, to send the doc and get it processed after I signed it. Allstate removed part of the increase, but since the deadline for the form was June 22, would not remove the whole increase.

Tried every day from June 22 to speak to the agency owner. He will not call me or take my calls. Others at the agency say I just have to pay the extra, which makes the policy more expensive than other options I had when I shopped insurance in April.

Bait and Switch. Someone at Allstate corporate told me to "talk to a lawyer and sue us". He also told me the extra is due by Sept 9, the date the 6 month policy expires.

The agency owner will not speak with me.

BAIT and SWITCH! I'm lodging a complaint with the TX Insurance Board. Any other suggestions?

[GA] Auto Insurance Policy Question (crosspost from r/legaladvice)

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 09:56 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I was asking around with a group of friends and others people that work for a large auto insurance brand. I was wondering if it was illegal for someone (3rd party) to remove auto insurance plan off of my account? - Where your account lists all of your policies that you have in one spot. Like life, homeowners, umbrella etc...

Long story short. My STBX's father removed her policy from my account without any proof of new insurance or any type of notification from the insurance company. One last caveat, her dad works for the same insurance company in the corporate office and did some type of internal transfer.

I thought most insurance or states require you to show proof that she has an open policy to transfer to before they can release it from your account. I also thought you got some type of notification. I just want to make sure that I won't be liable if something was to happen. I am also worried if he can do that without notifying me. What else can he do to my other policies with that same company? I like the company and I've been with them for years. Is there anything I can do from a security or information perspective?

    -Thanks!

    Non Gendered insurance quotes

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:29 PM PDT

This is purely hypothetical, however, for people that do not identify as male or female how are their insurance premiums affected due to this. Because men have extortionate insurance prices compared to women in the UK, despite an EU ruling several years ago that was supposed to prevent this, I wonder where having no gender comes into the equation when getting insurances quotes?

    Please discuss..

Experience with a bad car insurance agency?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 12:55 PM PDT

    Hi all.

Last week my girlfriend was driving and was hit by a guy who has car insurance from an agency with a terrible reputation.

This is the company, in case you're wondering. Pages and pages of people super frustrated reviews, both from customers and people who were hit by their customers who are trying to get a claim paid. They've been fined by the state of Illinois several times for violating state regulations.

I'm just starting the process of filing claims with them and after doing some research, I'm realizing this is going to be a real uphill battle.

My girlfriend was 100% not at fault, but I have no doubts they'll try to weasel out of it somehow.

Does anyone have any advice for how to manage this process and force them to respond? A lot of what I'm seeing says they just take months to get back to you about anything and drag out the process forever, in addition to throwing every barrier possible before paying out.

Luckily, their main office is not far from my house so I can go in there in person and demand their attention, because apparently getting them on the phone is impossible.

I'm seeing some things that suggest I can appeal to the state of Illinois department of insurance to have them investigate.

I'm also seeing that I can file a small claims court case against the driver of the car to attempt to force the issue and to get recouped for the cost of repairing the car.

Any other advice you all can offer is much appreciated. I'm girding myself to do battle with these jerks and every little bit I can prepare beforehand helps.

    Thank you!

Small fender bender, minor damage to my vehicle. What are my next steps?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 11:35 AM PDT

    Location: MD

I was recently in a small fender bender, however other vehicles behind me suffered significant damage. I was stopped for traffic ahead and the vehicles behind me collided. There was enough force that the vehicle directly behind me hit my bumper, but only caused some scratches/scuffs. As I drive a 2005 Accord with over 200k miles, I'm not really interested in collecting any money to buff out some scratches. Will probably be more trouble than it is worth.

My question is, do I need to report this to my insurance? If so, will it effect my rates at all? Are there risks to not reporting it (other than not getting money from some sort of settlement)? Am I totally wrong in not wanting to bother with reporting it?

    Thanks in advance!

I was victim of Hit and Run. I have license plate and pictures of fleeing car, but my insurance is making me pay the deductible.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 09:14 AM PDT

I have full coverage. My insurance was able to locate the driver of fleeing SUV with the help of security report form casino and license plate. But the problem is guilty party didn't have insurance. Now my insurance is offering to fix the car. Estimate is at $455 and my deductible is $500.

My insurance offered to get the car fixed and they will "try" to go after the driver for my deductible of $500. I am just not convinced about that.

    What should I do ?

Edit: So it seems, I will pay my deductible and my insurance will cover the rental. Meanwhile the other driver had no insurance, seemed to be under the influence and also decided to flee. I am more irritated at the fact that cops wont do anything because this happened at private property(casino Parking lot) and driver seems to get away with not having insurance either.

Whose auto insurance should I use for claims?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 08:34 AM PDT

I was rear ended yesterday. We are both physically unharmed but my car has sustained significant damage. The other driver was at fault and cited for following too closely. I have gathered the required information including a police report. I reached out to my insurance company and they told me I have the option of either going through them but have to pay my deductible and rental or go through the other driver's insurance. I am insured by Geico and the other driver by StateFarm. My deductible is 500 and I have comprehensive and collision coverage. I don't have rental coverage in my policy. I am not sure what the best option is.
