Has anyone considered what to do if DJI goes public?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 07:45 AM PDT

As an aviation professional, this company intrigues me big-time. According to a recent Goldman-Sachs publication this company already owns 70% of the market share for drones. I have my drone license and I can say their technology is so far ahead of nearly all their competitors.

Personally, I see them becoming the Boeing of drone tech...and I'm patiently awaiting the day they to public.

What stocks are the best bargains right now?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:12 PM PDT

I'm thinking of taking a loss on MU after the recent news and investing the money elsewhere. What stocks do you think are on sale/undervalued?

Also, is anyone still long MU? If so, what's your reasoning?

What are your biggest 3 holdings and why?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:54 PM PDT

Mine are: Visa, Baba and Amazon.

My reasoning, for holding Visa is that paper money is slowly dying and everyone is paying with credit cards.

My reasoning for holding Baba is that it got a huge impact in different sectors in China, and still got huge space to grow.

My reasoning for holding Amazon is, that they are very dominant in their space. And just keeps growing.

Hmny is undervalued according to simply wall street. I don't understand it at all

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:11 AM PDT

I saw hmny had an intrinsic value of 7$ based on future cash flow but what exactly does that mean? How could it possibly be undervalued given their problems?

I bought hmny when I first started out last September at like 2$ before it went on that crazy run. I have movie pass and hope it sticks around but don't see how it could keep going with the cash they burn.

Any really dumbed down explanation someone could give would be appreciated.

Why I consider companies like AAPL to be the most solid long-term bets.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:29 AM PDT

Their products are generally considered to be user-friendly, fashionable, and reliable. That public perception is really important when it comes to the actual stock price, in addition to the success of the company. The other thing is that they really aren't in danger of anti-trust lawsuits because they just focus on selling their products which are the type of products that will always have competition due to the large amount of people who feel they can get more bang for their buck elsewhere. I don't think that will change with them any time soon, either. They're not trying to be too big to fail which also helps public perception. This is where I worry about Amazon. They are acquiring a lot of different companies in a lot of different areas. While they do have competition in the individual areas they are involved in, they will pretty soon be in a class of their own as a whole company if they continue growing at this rate. What will the next liberal president do about that? Also, Apple doesn't seem to have the privacy concerns that Facebook has. In general, Apple is a company that balances public perception with growth and overall company success extremely well, in my opinion. Thoughts? Any other companies that you consider compareable to Apple?

Disclaimer: I have not done any DD on AmEx.

Is there a reason this stock isn't talked about much? I'm curious since I've been a loyal Amex holder for many years now.

Why did KIRK more than triple from 1/1/2008 to 3/1/2009?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:27 AM PDT

During the recession, KIRK actually tripled from $1.00 to $3.29 between the dates above. How come and how can we find another winner like that during our next bear market? I know people usually suggest stocks like DLTR WMT or MCD during those periods but they all lost a lot too in 2008.

    ScottyStellar's Inside Track: Random Update

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:20 AM PDT

Another random update since I'm too forgetful for weekly posts.

As of today at 12:13pm EST, the Inside Track is beating the VTI by 19% since inception in February.

Notable "Why the hell did I sell" stocks:

VSI, sold at 4.70 for a 19% gain. Now at 6.85.

BGS, sold at $22 and change for a 14% loss. Now at $30, 4 bucks above where I bought it initially.

Don't feel like screenshotting on my tiny macbook, so here's the link to view the real data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iIvKOyZvfLbCjqdeMhTZHsma8EkjjXTd6UctSmPyxow/edit?usp=sharing

u/provoko let me know if I should remove the link.

Is there someone who has made a good income from stocks?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:06 AM PDT

    Hi,

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has made a pretty good income from investing in stocks. My inspiration is Warren Buffett and he is one of the reasons I invest in stocks. But I wanted to ask if anyone here in this subreddit has made a good money out of it.

    Best regards, Gabriel

    CMI What are your thoughts?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:58 PM PDT

I picked up some CMI last November, and clearly didn't have an exit strategy as I have watched this climb and now subsequently fall some 19% or so from my purchase point.

I have been holding on thinking it will ride the current political climate, but honestly I am unsure of my confidence anymore. They recently made and an acquisition of electric drive train design and manufacturer, Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI). Which should help position them for the future.

Anyone else following/studying CMI? What are you doing with it? Do I keep bag holding or do I average down?

    Thanks!
