    Lost Stocks

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 01:27 PM PDT

When I was a child I received Disney stocks from my uncle for birthday presents. Unfortunately I can't find them and either can my mothers who would have been the one to hold on to them for me growing up. Is there any way to retrieve these. Who would I contact?

    When to chase a stock?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 07:56 AM PDT

Hey guys, I have a question regarding investing discipline and your own personal practices. I have two stocks that I'm very bullish on, yet I was unable to get a full position in either of them before they ran up a good bit. I love the long term prospects for both, but I'm wondering whether I should wait for yet another pullback before trying to get some more money in and risk missing even more of a move.

    For context:

-I bought about a half position in Coupa Software (COUP) in early May and almost immediately it started moving. It's currently up a little over 26% since. I keep expecting it to take a breather, but it keeps inching up.

-I grabbed a half position in The Trade Desk (TTD) a couple of weeks back when it had an inexplicable 6% or so drop on a tariff-related down day. It's currently up about 7% since and I'm not sure that I can bank on getting another big dip like that to bite off some more.

How would some of you approach these situations? If you're a long-term believer in a stock, do you just take the risk or do you wait for any sort of dip and potentially miss another big move? I'd love any and all perspectives. Thanks!

What are some good ways of thinking about Implied Volatility?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 11:31 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm reading about options and implied volatility and I'm having trouble understanding the concept of IV.

Am I right in thinking that it's a function of the future change of price of an option? I don't understand how it's measured and what is the proper amount of IV for a given options strategy.

Any help would be welcome, thanks.

Selling a put then buying it back

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 07:35 PM PDT

If I sell a put then decide I do not want to be liable for fulfilling it. Can I buy the same contract and will that cancel it out? Or how can I get out of the position

    Diluted V.S Basic

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 04:55 AM PDT

Hey, so Ive been doing some research into some stocks id like to invest in. I noticed that the Diluted EPS is around 2, while the standard eps is .5.

Ive looked around online and cant find anything that explains why Diluted was greater than normal eps.

In my understanding; diluted eps only ads to the denominator (the bottom half of the fraction?) so why would diluted ever be higher?

stock is ARMK if u want to take a look

EDIT: so, im on yahoo finance and its using diluted eps ttm, is that why?

Why book cost is not what I calculate?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:48 PM PDT

    Hello there,

During the last few weeks I bought stocks of over 10 different companies through my bank (Royal Bank of Canada)

I expected the book cost to be: ( (stock purchase price * number of stocks) + transaction fee) * exchange rate (USD TO CAD),

but I the numbers that I calculate are different from the book costs. This is very strange to me. The differences are at least ~50 ~60 dollars. Why are they different?

Selling an amazon put for jan or further next year

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 11:26 AM PDT

    Is this a good idea?
Selling a put for amazon for January or further maybe June for $1,600/$1,500 which will pay me $7,400 (Stock is now $1,740 a share)
I can't see it sinking below $1,600 by then. I'll have some money tied up for a bit but if it exercises for less at least i'll have it for a good price plus i'll have gotten $7,400
What do you think? is this a good/bad idea?

    Municipal bond ETFs

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:59 AM PDT

I know this type of investment is super conservative but can anyone recommend some good options, I sold a bunch of Positions today for gains and would like to park the money in tax free yield until the next dip to reload. One I was looking at was SHYD.

What is your opinion on stock pick subscription services?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 09:01 AM PDT

I'm considering subscribing to a service something along the lines of the Motley fool or Zacks. I'd like to know if any of you use this type of service. Or would care to comment. I'm on the side of them not being very useful but it's something I've found intriguing lately.

Thinking about DCAing out of the stock market

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 09:00 AM PDT

I'm thinking about selling around 1000 dollars worth of my portfolio every few days. This would take around 1 year to completely liquidate my holdings. I'm doing this because I feel like we've been in bull mode for way too long and should probably start taking profits as I haven't sold in over 3 years.

Is this a good idea? What are the tax implications of withdrawing 1k everyday?

Stuck on what company to invest in next

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 02:07 PM PDT

First post here, been lurking for a little while now.

Firstly, thanks for all the knowledge and advice given out on this sub. As a rookie investor I really appreciate it.

I've been doing some research on my next investment and I would really appreciate some advice on what you ladies and gentlemen think.

I have been considering DIS, I don't own any stock in a "blue chip" company yet, and I know Disney is obviously very well established. I have heard they are looking to get into the video streaming sector, and I believe that now might be a good time to invest.

Also, I've been looking into Planet Fitness (PLNT). I like their business model, and they seem to have their target market down.

Thirdly, I've been looking into Spotify (SPOT). Music is one of my passions and I feel like the future of music is going to be mainly streaming services. I'm a bit skeptical on this one though due to the amount of competition they face, and they haven't yet been able to become profitable.

Lastly, I should mention I've been thinking about investing into a few different ETFs, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for as far as that goes.

I should also mention, I'm 23 years old & looking to invest long.

Thanks for reading, proud to be a new member of this community!

Industries to look into in response to a new sports team coming into a city.

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 09:08 PM PDT

Las Vegas struck gold with the Golden Knights and the Raiders are coming in a few years... I'm guessing NBA or MLB might follow.

What industries are best to look into for investing? I'm mainly thinking construction, but what else is there?

Does anyone know anything about Jim Cramer's Action Alerts PLUS and if its worth the $300 an annual subscription?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 05:50 AM PDT

Though Jim Cramer is one of the greatest investors his Action Alerts PLUS is way too expensive at $300 for annual subscription. I enjoy watching his show Mad Money and he has great stock picks but its hard to justify spending $300 for his stock subscription service. Anyone members of the action alert plus or know if its worth getting? Or does anyone have another service that they enjoy and is worth looking into? Thanks!
