[Ontario Canada] Neighbour doesn't want us sitting on our front porch because "it's an invasion of his privacy".

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 05:54 AM PDT

Our front porch faces to the north and on nice evenings we like to sit out there in the shade to get some fresh (non-AC) air. The prevailing winds are west to east so we also get a nice breeze. We've been doing this for many years when we are home in the summer.

A little over a week ago, our neighbour from across the street came over and told us we could no longer sit on our front porch because it was an invasion of his family's privacy (????). We have been neighbours for over 12 years and have always been friendly, never had any issues of any kind. At first I thought he was joking so I burst out laughing. This infuriated him and he left yelling and screaming at us. This may or may not matter but we can't even see anything at all other than some of the front of his house. We have bushes, shrubs and a tree that blocks most of our view and he also has the same in front of his house.

Anyway, we thought he was having an off day or something and we ignored it. A few days later, on a really nice evening while we are sitting out there a police cruiser pulls into our driveway. The officer gets out and starts asking all kinds of questions. A little taken aback, I asked specifically what this was about and he informed me that a complaint had been filed against us because we had been looking into our neighbour's house through his windows! We said that's impossible, we haven't left our porch and the only time either one of us had been in his yard was to clear the snow in the winter (which I had done for many years). It's also impossible to see into his windows from ground level in his yard because they are too high off the ground. The officer seemed a little puzzled, asked a few more questions, told us not to go over there and he walked over to my neighbour's house. We eventually went inside before the cruiser left our driveway but since we didn't hear anything further we thought that was the end of it.

Fast forward to this morning. On our way out, my wife noticed a plain white envelop taped to our front door. The envelop contained a letter from a law firm in town which basically said this was a cease and desist letter and we needed to refrain from invading our neighbours privacy (by not sitting on our porch) or we would be taken to court. It also stated he had minors living in his house and our constant intrusions were causing him and them distress, etc..

I'm kind of in shock typing this out. Is anyone aware of privacy laws that would prevent one party from sitting out on their porch because that gives them a view of a neighbour's house??

Is it worth consulting an attorney right away or should we wait until he actually takes us to court? We will not stop using our porch no matter what this guy says. We have just now just discussed putting up security cameras at the front of our house but I'm worried this might be an escalation that should be avoided at this point.

I'm thinking about going over there to ask what the h*ll is going on but the police officer told us to stay away so... I think that's not the greatest idea right now.

The last thing that is bothering me is the letter - would any law firm tape a letter in a plain white envelop to someone's door? I would have expected it to be delivered in the mail or registered mail. The other thing that seems odd is our names are not even on the letter. It's simply addressed to Homeowner(s) with our address.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

New Info: Just heard back from the actual law firm I called this morning. Long story short, they did not send the letter and do not represent this individual. They did ask that I send them the original letter I received but I declined. I did agree to send them a digital scan and they agreed to send me something stating they didn't send the letter I had received from "them".

(UPDATE) - I got my job back!

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 07:27 AM PDT

    https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/8xj4ei/was_i_wrongfully_terminated/

Just wanted to let everybody know I got my job back. I asked my friend in IT if he could send me some evidence that I was working from home and he sent me a report showing an active remote desktop connection with my home IP address from 12 to 4 on Saturday. I emailed this report to the COO along with my last 2 performance reviews and he said he would look into it and get back to me. An hour later he emailed me back that I should not have been fired and to take today off with pay and report back tomorrow. I don't know if I will get an apology (probably not) but at least I got my job back.

Rover.com sitter killed my dog (gross negligence) while I was out of town - they say they offer no compensation other than a "we're sorry" [Colorado]

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 08:02 AM PDT

Hi. I've never posted here before so let me know if I'm not doing right.

Like the title states, I entrusted my two dogs to a Rover.com sitter while I went out of town. Two days later I received a terrible email stating that one of my dogs had died instantly due to being attacked by a known aggressive 150lb mastiff. The dog sitter had taken in the mastiff for her sister "just for a couple days" unbeknownst to me and locked it in a shoddy pen next to a broken deck my dog was able to get into and was killed instantly. She then abandoned his dead body at a local Banfield and did not give them instructions to cremate or bury so I don't even know where his remains are. Rover support told me they're sorry and that they have no systems in place to compensate for a dead animal -- that their guarantee and insurance are only for vet bills if your dog gets hurt on a Rover stay -- which makes it sound like a dead dog is great business for them because they don't have to pay anything. Also, the lady that was watching my dog gets to go on with her life as nothing happened - I'd like to bring charges against her but don't know how the process works. If it matters, her husband owns the house this tragedy happened at.

After calling several law firms, it seems like cases involving animal law aren't taken up by many attorneys. I was able to find one animal law dedicated firm but haven't heard back. What are my options in regards to suing, settling, or taking this to court?

Please Help! Not sure where to post. Someone has withdrawn/is withdrawing my 401K savings. I can't talk to the 401k company until 8am ET in 3+ hours. What do I do?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 01:43 AM PDT

    UPDATE:

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's not what I thought it was and I feel kinda dumb but also had my reasons. Turns out without any prior notification, my previous employer has stopped using this company and they're rolling over 401K accounts but I don't know to where at this point. I was given a number and contact person to call to get more info as they couldn't tell me anything else.

All I saw last night was a PO Box address I don't recognize and some financial entity trustee setup as the payee showing that they were paid this check and my balance is 0. So naturally I freaked out! I also had a flashback to when someone defrauded a relative of mine, they had setup a bogus company and messed with the Pay To info on a check from him meant for the IRS and ended up withdrawing the money, more than 20k. Of course this is a different situation. Also I may or may not have filed an IC3 internet crime complaint with the FBI naming the contact person because I found their info linked to the PO Box in the withdrawal transaction. Oops!

    Side note:

I just wanted to add, I made sure this was not a phishing e-mail. I never click on anything within e-mails I just go to the company website to login and I double check the sender e-mail address.

    Original Post:

I received an e-mail saying my withdrawal request was approved, but I didn't make the request. Of course this is after their business hours in Eastern Time. I see a payee address to a po box and links to a name and address in my city. my e-mail was hacked recently, this may be related. I dont know who this person is but his name appears to be linked to or employed with a financial institution/insurance. I'm freaking out. I feel helpless and paralyzed. It says the request was made 7/09 yesterday and paid by check. WTF is happening??? I'm in AZ.

Getting threatened with a lawsuit over not hiring a candidate with tattoos

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:03 AM PDT

    Good Afternoon everyone,

I am a business owner in the greater Houston, Texas area and have been looking to hire an assistant to help with administrative tasks. I recently interviewed a candidate, let's call him Brandon, who had visible neck and facial tattoos, and had to disqualify him because my business caters to children and young adults.

Of course, I did not openly state this, but rather sent him an e-mail thanking him for his time and saying that the position has been filled. He wrote me back, rudely accusing me of not hiring him because of his tattoos and saying he will be contacting an attorney for discrimination.

This is the first time I have ever been threatened with legal action and am quite scared. I did not respond to his e-mail and have absolutely no problem with tattoos - on the contrary, I love them and learning about their meanings, however, as stated before, my clientele consists of children and adolescents (as well as their parents) and it would not be appropriate for them to be visible.

Do I have anything to be concerned about? Thank you in advance!

Getting Kicked Out of My Apartment for a Rennovation But Still Forced To Pay

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 07:20 AM PDT

    Hey Everyone,

This is my first post on reddit. I was recommended to come here to see if there is anyone who could help my sister out who lives in LA. Here is her most recent facebook post:

Can someone please explain. I'm so so so overwhelmed and kinda scared at this point. My apartment is renovating for almost 3 weeks in August. They are raising rent that month. During renovation, I will not be allowed in my apartment from 8am-5pm. My dog and I will have to find somewhere to be, or when I'm working, my dog will have to be watched. They have made it my responsibility to move all of the furniture in and out of whatever room they are renovating that week. I can't have any food in my fridge during this time.

They are not compensating at all. Not to have someone watch my dog, not for me to have a place to stay, nothing.

In fact, if I don't move everything myself (I am not strong enough to do this, my room mates will be out of town too) they are going to charge me extra to have people do it. I can barely afford anything since rent is going up. Several people have filed complaints, but the complex keeps winning legal battles. I'm so confused how this is legal though?

It's not my decision that they are choosing to do this? I don't have time or strength to move everything. I won't have an apartment for mostly every day in August. My poor doggo is going to be very confused. I'm considering staying in my car, but it'll be too hot for puppy.

    I'm.so.stressed.out.

Renters are refusing to pay, said lease is "null and void" since we've decided not to renew their lease. AZ

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 08:24 AM PDT

I was here a month ago asking for advice on our rental property and got a lot of help (thank you). Unfortunately, our renters have been difficult to say the least. I still don't have a copy of our original lease agreement but I recall it being up at the end of this month. They thought it was up in June and since I couldn't remember for sure I said if they wanted to leave in June I would be okay with it. We told them we wanted to sell the house and that unless they could buy it we were not going to renew.

Fast forward a few weeks and I text to see where rent is and basically got the reply "We wont be paying rent this month, our lease was up in June and since we weren't renewing we assumed the lease was null and void". Well, they're still living there and are under the impression that since there's no paper lease then we can't do anything about it. I plan to fight this. I'm pissed and we did them a favor and now we are getting screwed. I'm sending my 5-day letter today and following up with the eviction process but my question is, if the lease did, in fact, expire last month, with them staying there do we automatically assume they're extending this month and however long they decide to stay? Basically they're squatting at this point so can we even go after them for money owed? What are my rights as the owner of the home. Thanks for any information you could help me with.

(PA) My sister claims to babysit kids. She then dumps them onto my mother. Is this illegal? If so, what can I do?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 11:14 AM PDT

Hello reddit. I am 20F and home from college. My sister had a child 3 years ago and wasn't really prepared. My mom steps up and babysits for her a lot. I am not sure exactly when this situation started happening as I at college during the year and home over the summer. My sister has posted on Facebook multiple times about running a small daycare and to contact her if they needed their kids watched. My sister works another full time job during the day. She then dumps them (about 7 or 8 kids) off at my moms house. Which I then get roped into helping with when I am not at my job.

Isn't there some sort of certification needed to run a daycare? Who do I contact about this? I don't want to sever my relationship with my mom or sister preferably. I also don't want my mom to get into trouble. Is there a way to anonymously report this?

TLDR Sister claims to run a small daycare and then dumps them on my mom. How do I report this without them knowing it was me and not getting my mom in trouble?

Background Check Says I'm a Level 1 Sex Offender?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 09:40 AM PDT

I just started at a new job for which I had to complete a background check. I've never been accused or convicted of any crime, not even a parking ticket or a speeding ticket, so I was't surprised when my new boss told me that the background check was completed and that I was all set to start working. Fast forward to today when I get a background screening report in the mail. Next to the component labeled "County Criminal Record" is my name, the county I live in, and the result "Level 1". Similarly, next to "DOJ Sex Offender Search" is my name and the result "Level 1". All of the other components yield a "clear" or "complete" result. My boss didn't mention anything about my background check showing that I'm a level 1 sex offender so I assume that there's no issue with my new workplace, but should I still be concerned? Should I call the company that did my background check to clear this up or should I not bother? As I said before, I've never committed any sexual crimes, let alone been accused or convicted, so I can't be a sex offender. I live in Massachusetts, if that information is relevant. Thanks in advance.

Update: Just called but was put on hold for 20 minutes so I left a message. I'll be sure to update this post when this whole thing comes to a conclusion. Thanks to everyone who replied!

Update 2: I just got off the phone with the background check people. They weren't incredibly clear, but from what I could gather, the "Level 1" next to the sex offender heading isn't the same thing as the legal designation of a level 1 sex offender. So I guess that's good news? They said that I should contact my employer if I have any further questions, so I might do that. But for now I'm going to assume that in this company's weird classification system level 1 is the default and nothing to worry about. Thanks again to everyone who contributed.

[New York] Lyft driver submitted a false report

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 05:00 AM PDT

Past weekend my wife and I ordered a Lyft to get home from the airport. Our ride was about 40 minutes, and there were no issues during the trip.

Next day I was notified by Lyft support email that the driver claimed I had open alcohol container. I said that was false and Lyft should gather the proof prior to making such accusation. A few days later I received a follow up email with two photos of some liquid spilled on the backseat of a car along with a $50 damage fee from Lyft. I inspected the metadata of the "proof" photos and found out that they were taken 2 hours after we were dropped off. Liquid in the photos looks fresh. It would have dried up in two hours. I have been requesting Lyft to inspect the image metadata and verify the "proof". They continue repeating the following sentence: "Your driver specifically identified you as the requesting passenger for the ride during which damage was incurred." I am not planning to pay for the damages I did not commit. What are my options besides blocking the charge on the credit card?

[Update 1]: I have filled a complaint with the TLC. Thank you for the recommendation. I will consider small claims depending on the updates from Lyft. There are about 10 emails for correspondence between me and Lyft.

[WA] Treehouse and attractive nuisance question

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:00 AM PDT

We just finished building a treehouse in our front yard. The base is about 12 feet off the ground and the ladder (the only way to get to it) is removed when we are not home or are not supervising. FWIW, there are 34" railings surrounding the base of the treehouse to reduce the risk.

The ladder is VERY heavy, so it is unreasonable to expect a child to move it, and my question is whether we can do something to enable the kids to close down the treehouse when they're done using it and before the adults have a chance to remove the ladder so that we don't have an attractive nuisance (I recognize that relying on kids to be responsible is risky in and of itself; I'm just thinking through options.)

The low-tech idea I am thinking through is to get a 24" plank (the ladder is 24" wide) to snap on top of the rails of the (which would also cover the stairs) so that there is no easy way to climb the ladder. Would that be enough to avoid an attractive nuisance claim?

Home Owners Association Advice Needed (Camden County, NJ)

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:11 AM PDT

    Hello -

First and foremost I have met with two separate attorneys on this issue. I found an Attorney who specializes in HOAs and just left her office.

We have a small cul-du-sac with only 3 homes on it. Builder finished the homes and left us in charge of the HOA for the last 7 years. No issue at all, everyone is fine, we all maintain our own areas, the HOA does not own any land.

Now comes to the point, I want to sell my house, the HOA is listed on the Deed, however, I have no payments, no dues, no nothing but I need some type of paperwork saying I am paid in full and owe nothing at closing time.

My attorney I spoke to said we can try and get everyone together and dissolve the HOA or we can form an official HOA. I want to list the house and move and not deal with forming a company, having insurance, being bonded, having a bank account, etc.

    Thoughts?

AT&T representatives lied about offers that I was eligible for to get me to switch. What can I do?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 11:51 AM PDT

I'd been in the market to switch from Verizon because I thought the prices were inflated. I was doing some shopping at Walmart, and there was an AT&T rep in the electronics section doing promos.

The rep told me that they could buy me out of my Verizon obligations, and that I'd be able to keep my old device to do whatever I wanted with. He recommended that I sell it on my own, because the amount AT&T offered "was a scam" even going as far as to show me the trade in value of my phone.

He insisted that even keeping my device, I was eligible for the buyout, and I could submit my final Verizon bill when I received it.

He also told me that they were running a half price phone deal to new customers. That if I switched, I'd get half off a new phone with them.

I've just received my first bill from AT&T. The phone isn't half price. I called and they said it was a BOGO promotion. The rep never once mentioned that it was BOGO. No discussion of a second phone was ever had. I see how technically BOGO is half price but it wasn't applicable to me whatsoever.

I wasn't given any paperwork to sign or look over. They called the AT&T operator and had me do all that through them.

He told me that the price that the operator was telling me was full price because "they don't know the promos" and that it'd be reflected later on.

Yes, I know I'm an idiot and I should have done more work to verify these promotions. I know that now. But the guy straight up lied to make a sale. It was all lies. I've since done research and apparently the reps lie all the time and no one is held accountable and the customer is left with their shit in their hand.

    How can I fix this?

I (F14) am trying to get me and my 3 siblings(F13, F11,M8) out of an abusive and neglectful situation (California)

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:31 PM PDT

My parents divorced in July of 2013 and it was very messy. Lots of tears from my mother and abuse and scapegoating from my father especially on me because I'm the oldest. He would hit me and be emotionally dismissive and I was only 9. I alternate visiting my parents for one week at a time since it's summer. While here, my brother and sister sleep with my grandmother on the same old bed. Their closet smells of urine for reasons unknown. Me and my younger sister sleep on a mattress on the floor in my dads room (he sleeps on the couch in the living room). His room contains misplaced pieces of furniture lying on the walls like bed frames and piles of trash on the ground. He leaves his dirty clothes/underwear on the ground and it's very unsanitary. We do not have many clothes over here either. We dump them all in a plastic bin in the same closet that smells like urine. I'm currently 14 (15 in November) and was wondering if I could take pictures of this place and send them to my mom so she can show them to the judge in court so that they can see all the evidence of the unsanitary conditions we live in so that we'll be, hopefully emancipated from our father. My father also lies in court so I'm wondering if we can show all this proof, what will happen when the judge finds out most of what he says is untrue?

Edit: Thank you for the responses! I forgot to mention that my 13y/o sister is mentally disabled and cannot communicate verbally very well, but she signs to me in ASL all the time that she wants to go to mom's house when she stays here. Does that change anything??

Edit 2: I also have an old iPhone 4 somewhere full of texts of him verbally abusing me on there will that help our case?

Bought a house and found mold in a storage space that was blocked off during inspection and not listed in disclosures. Can I do anything about his?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 08:33 AM PDT

    Michigan

We put a bid on a house we loved and read over the disclosures many times with our realtor. There wasn't really anything wrong with the house besides a window or two needing re-caulking and a small crack in the driveway needing to be fixed. Most of the big things like AC unit, furnace, and roof were all new or new-ish. Perfect. Nothing about mold was mentioned.

During our walkthroughs of the house, there was a decent sized storage room in the basement that was full of boxes that the sellers had filled with their belongings. I didn't think anything of it since they're obviously moving and wanted to pack things up to remove clutter and make their home seem more spacious. Since the storage area is the most logical place to store their stuff we thought nothing of it. This storage area also had access to a small closet under the stairs that lead down to the basement but it was blocked off from the boxes.

We had the house professionally inspected after our bid was accepted. The inspector spent a few hours going over every tiny nook, cranny, and detail of the house and everything looked to be in great shape. The finished basement had no signs of moisture or leakage and the rest of the house had no issues either (besides some weak insulation in the attic). The small storage room in the basement was the absolute last place on his list of things to check. The storage room itself, from what he could see, checked out A-OK. However, the inspector said he couldn't check under the basement stairs in the storage room because of the owner's boxes that were stacked up and in the way. The rest of the area was fine but he said he couldn't legally move their property to get under the stairs and didn't want to be liable. I didn't want to be held liable either and since the rest of the house was in such great condition we called it a day.

We end up closing on the house and on closing day we meet the sellers. They tell us all about the house, how long they've been there, all the work and upgrades they did to it. They were even nice enough to tell us a couple of things to watch out for that they never got around to fixing. Super, super nice people - but nothing about the mold was mentioned.

Fast forward to after our closing and on move in day, I open the door to the closet under the stairs in the storage room and there's mold all over the carpet, up the walls, and on stairs in that closet. It was everywhere. I didn't know what to do so I closed the door and don't use that closet.

Since we had already signed the paperwork, closed on the home, and began moving in - what would my legal options be at that point? Would I even have any or is it a situation where it's the buyer's problem at that point? Thank you.

Friend wants out of abusive relationship with bipolar person off her meds. She’s threatening to kill herself if he leaves, what can he do?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 11:25 AM PDT

    Los Angeles, California

She is an undocumented person living in the US without healthcare. We've suggested dropping her off at a psych facility for a hold. Would that require her to have healthcare coverage?

She has no friends or family here. Though she is a danger to him, he doesn't want to leave her high and dry with no place to go (they live together) or someone to watch after her when he decides to leave.

    What are his options?

**Sorry if this is the wrong sub. If someone could point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

Witness Failed to Show, What Now? [KY]

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:25 AM PDT

So I posted a while ago about being in a car accident without insurance. I showed up to court at the beginning of May, and they entered a plea of not guilty and said they needed to subpoena the other driver for their side of the story. I was given a new date of June 26, which I showed up to as well. There the prosecutor called any witnesses in my case forward and no one came forward. He called the other driver by name, and no one came forward. I was again given a date for late August and again told they had to subpoena the other driver.

    My questions:

Can I file a motion to dismiss based on lack of evidence? Legal troubles for the other driver aside, they're the prosecution's star witness and they didn't show up. If I can, can I file the motion before my next court date or do I have to wait till then? Is there anything I can do if the other driver fails to show at my next court date?

    Was I wrongfully terminated?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 06:23 PM PDT

    Virginia

I was fired this morning and I don't know if any laws were broken. I work in the accounting department for a government contractor with less than 200 people. Occasionally I'm asked to work from home on the weekends which I'm glad to do. Some people in another department got fired last month for putting weekend hours on their timesheet they didn't work so all the department heads are really cracking down on that. (I have never falsified my timesheet or been accused of doing so, until today).

This Friday I was asked to work from home doing some data entry in preparation for a report that had to be out Monday. Normally people would take their laptop home but for what I needed to do this wasn't needed. We have "remote desktop" which allows you to connect from any computer on the internet. Unfortunately my boss, and the head of HR, have never heard of this and don't believe it exists even though I offered to show them. My boss asked me this morning when I had worked and I truthfully said Saturday afternoon from about Noon to 4. He didn't say anything but then an hour later I was called into the HR manager's office and fired on the spot. Apparently my boss came in at 2 on Saturday and noticed I hadn't taken my laptop home. He and the HR manager both concluded that I lied about working since there is no way I could have been doing the data entry without my laptop which is absolutely untrue. Neither of them would listen to me or even call somebody in IT who could verify you could do this and I was told to gather up my things and leave the office immediately.

Was this legal? This is so unfair. I did absolutely nothing wrong and was fired because of ignorance about how computers and the internet work.

[TX] Stepdad changed home locks while mom was at work.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 10:35 AM PDT

Backstory: My stepdad has been showing signs of mental illness for several months. He will sleep for 24 hours at a time, rarely leaving his room. He has almost completely stopped going to work (he works for a medical business where my mother is President/CEO). He will have a few days where he seems like his cheerful, fun self but goes back to depressed very quickly.

My mom, who is a saint, has been putting up with him but has recently found out that he has been cheating on her with multiple women. She confronted him about this and he became angry that she thinks she can control his sex life. From what my mom has told me, she was still considering leaving vs staying and they were talking things out (mostly over text because he is usually sleeping. She still goes to work and takes care of the home/our dogs.)

Today when my mom was at work, my stepdad texted her saying he had changed the locks and she was not welcome back. He said she could make an appointment to pick up her things, then turned his phone off.

My questions: - Can a husband legally change the locks and kick out his wife in a shared home?

    • He seems like he is not going to be cooperative in getting her/our stuff back. My car keys are in the house and my car is outside, as I am out of town. A lot of the furniture inside is hers, as well as both of our computers and all of our family photos and stuff. Who does my mom need to go to to facilitate getting her stuff back as quickly as possible? Is this something that has to wait until a divorce lawyer can divvy up what belongs to who?

    • Is there someone you can call when you are concerned for someone's well being? As mad as I am at my stepdad right now, I know that he needs help.

Thank you in advance for your help. I tried to be as concise as possible but it is an emotional time for my family. I am also living at their house right now as I just graduated from college, but am currently out of town so I'm feeling a little powerless and trying to figure out the legality of the situation so I can help as much as I can. Googling only gets you so far!

[EU country] Child porn on search engines, what can I [19f] do about it?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 04:54 AM PDT

I recently moved to a small EU country, but I'd rather not specify. It is also probably not important cause this is happening online.

    Edit: fine, autobot, it's Denmark.

Idk if anyone else runs into the same problem but sometimes I use Bing images to find pornographic pictures using key words. I never ise terms like young or barely legal, just words like 'girl' sometimes.

Anyway, it's happened twice that while scrolling, I saw pictures of 8-13 year olds in a bathing suite. Once I saw a nude of a person who was obviously a pre-teen. When this stuff happens I just close out my browser.

    I have two questions:

Can I get into legal trouble for seeing these images on a Bing search? And is there any way to report the pictures without clicking on them to see the URL?

(FL) My ex employer paid my OT as straight time using a separate account and paying on a 1099 form for 3 years

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 06:29 AM PDT

As the title says, my ex employer who fired me was paying me for ot using a separate check and giving me a 1099 form for those hours. I inevitably owed taxes and had to pay.

Now after firing me they are denying my unemployment. I've had enough and would like to be reimbursed for all those hours. Is there any case here? Should I get an employment attorney? Would it be better to get my ex co-workers involved in some sort of class action suit?

Store Employee Told Family I Bought Pregnancy Test

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 07:38 PM PDT

Me (32M) and my girlfriend (30F) bought a pregnancy test at our local dollar store in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. We recently discovered, to our horror, the employee that rang us up happened to be an unknown acquaintance of my step-father and decided to immediately disclose to my family that me and my lady-friend were recently in the store buying pregnancy tests. What was supposed to be a discreet, private thing has now became the talk of our small town.

I realize that a pregnancy test is an over-the-counter item that probably wouldn't be legally covered by any confidentiality rights, but I'm pretty upset about this employee telling the very people that we didn't want to know, the thing we we're specifically hiding from them, or anyone, actually. I'm pretty sure that we could have this employee fired, considering that the corporate office certainly wouldn't want any employee doing anything that would discourage any customer from plunking down that dollar on the counter. I'd normally just complain to corporate about this, but I'm thinking I'm feeling violated enough to tell a courtroom my story. Any suggestions or advice?

TLDR; Dollar store employee in Pennsylvania told my family and others that I purchased a pregnancy test and I'm not happy about it. What can I do?

Need advice about removing someone from a home

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 02:11 AM PDT

This is in San Diego ,CA, USA

I really don't know who else to ask, I wish I could talk to a law attorney now.

My aunt is 61 and my uncle is in his mid 80's. My uncle has had health problems for years, in May of 2017, my aunt's step son (uncle's son from another marriage, age 60) came to stay in their house to help take care of my uncle for "a while."

After numerous deadlines, step son won't leave the house. My aunt and uncle pay for everything, his rent on an empty apartment where he lived previously across the country, he uses their credit card, bought him an SUV,and he gets hundreds of dollars per week in spending money. My uncle was a very high profile doctor and has millions.

The step son is supposed to be at the house monitoring his dad, but is never there. He is always at the neighboring country club giving "pro bono personal training sessions" to the women there. My aunt has had to shoulder the majority of caring for my uncle.

Stepson runs the house, and verbally abuses my aunt and uncle. He screams in their face, degrades them, abuses their credit card, and my aunt is afraid that he will hurt her.

She called me an hour ago, hiding in her closet, crying and heaving because she is so scared of him. He is a body builder and she is 5 feet tall and 82lbs. She has lost enormous amounts of weight due to the stress and fear she endures from living with this step son. Her blood pressure is so high that she has been hospitalized. She thinks he will get rid of her so his dad doesn't leave money to her. She is terrified of this man.

There is no written contract, and he does not pay rent, I am unsure if he gets mail there. He still has a residence in his name that the rent is paid on.

Can she call the police and have him removed immediately? My uncle also wants him gone but is weak and wheelchair bound.

I'm going over there tomorrow to be with her for a doctors appointment and she wants him to leave tomorrow because she is scared.

What can we do to remove him immediately? Any advice or help would be appreciated. I feel like she expects me to have the magic wand to make him go away and I'm not even sure the police would do anything if they were called.

    Help?

Edit: additionally, she wants me to spend the night until he leaves and I initially agreed because she was so upset . . . But that seems like it would add complications and escalate things. Would staying there be advised or no?

TL;DR: how to evict a person who abuses(?) the people he lives with

(Oregon) Work is trying to make staff do work logs on their personal cellphone/computers

    Posted: 10 Jul 2018 05:02 AM PDT

I'm gonna be vague, but we have to do logs and tracking online. We have a PC at work but my boss hasn't had cable set up. He's been asking the employees to do all the tracking on their personal cellphones or doing it when they get home on their personal PC.

No one really feels comfortable doing this. Can he ask us to do this?
