    Blackberry BB

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:05 AM PDT

Personally purchased some after the earnings report and felt it was oversold. The share price has dogged a bit since then but has since stabilized around $13 CAD.

Anyone have Blackberry as well, or any thoughts on this? I feel it's a good longer term hold even though it has luke warm near term outlook, but has some potentially exciting news coming with collaborations with Samsung and Microsoft.

ESPP Shares and when to sell?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 12:20 PM PDT

So I currently invest monthly in my company ESPP. I've been doing this for about 3 years and have accumulated a number of shares. I pretty much use this as another savings account that I don't touch. Every few months when shares turn longterm, I'll sell them and reinvest in other stocks/etfs. My issue is that as of right now, I have about ~50%+ of my current portfolio (not including my 401k) in my company stock, which seems inherently dangerous / stupid. A little less than a 3rd of the shares are long term at the moment, which I plan on selling soon. My question is, how do people handle short term stocks through ESPP? Wait until the stock reaches a good price and sell them, or wait until they turn into longterm holdings and then sell?

Xiaomi IPO - When can you start trading it?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 01:29 PM PDT

I am trying to purchase a few shares in the company upon their IPO. Fidelity is not allowing the trade to go through due to 144a or IPO regulations it seems. Can anyone shed light on this reason? It's a hard question to google.

    Marijuana impairment testing?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2018 05:18 PM PDT

Does anyone know of any companies that are trying to design or make a test to test for impairment that would be used by say law enforcement to tell if someone is driving high? With a lot of places legalizing it I feel like this may be a good place to invest in.

My opinion on Golden Leaf Holdings (GLH, GLDFF)

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 08:51 AM PDT

Full disclosure: I purchased 110,000 shares of GLH a couple weeks ago after months of research, average cost $0.23. I plan on holding all my shares until at least 2028 (when the NA cannabis industry is projected to mature). I own an investment business & am comfortable with the speculative nature of this stock. GLH is a very speculative investment, please be aware of the risks before investing. Please don't speculate unless you can afford to lose 100% of your investment.

    Golden Leaf holdings (GLH, GLDFF)

I started studying GLH again a few months back while browsing Cannabis companies with operations in Canada and the US. Since then I've read every article, statement, quarterly report etc… from GLH I could find. I initially stayed away from the company when I started investing in cannabis because they had a sketchy management team who didn't do any favours for shareholders, management has now changed. According to the new CEO William Simpson, the founder of Chalice Farms. The only thing left of the old management is the name (see interview linked below). From what I can gather when GLH bought out Chalice Farms last summer Simpson and his people lead a sort of corporate coup, booted the old management and took over. Simpson is now the CEO & his Chalice farms co-founder is the COO (see investor presentation linked below for senior management bios)

This new team appears to have their heads on their shoulders. They have a great track record with Chalice Farms (an award winning dispensary chain with 7 locations in Oregon). My biggest concern with the industry is there is so much emphasis on cultivation that we could be risking an oversupply. On top of that there's no distribution, it's great to grow the stuff but you have to be able to deliver it to the end consumer in a profitable way. This will hurt margins at all the producers, big & small. Strategically GLH is in a fantastic position to grow rapidly when US legalization occurs, they're either licensed or acquiring licenses in most legal US states & Canada. They are nearly cash flow positive and currently have over $22m USD cash on hand. Once they receive their extraction license they'll become profitable imo. Canaccord Genuity released a report recently staying the company is undervalued.

The plan to sell Chalice farms franchises for $50k is a great way to grow distribution. The biggest value add products in the industry are oils, extracts & edibles, by franchising distribution it'll help provide some consistent cash flow as well as a distribution channel for in-house high margin products where they'll have a say in price, shelf-space etc.. I think Simpson's focus on more value add products like edibles & oils is brilliant because their margins won't disappear in the event of over supply (Like in Oregon). Simpson said recently it's cheaper for them to buy flower on the open market then to produce it due to oversupply.

Golden Leaf itself will be able to focus on improving their premium brand selection without having to worry about distribution. They are already in markets like California, Canada, Nevada, Oregon. Once they roll out the franchise systems and the industry matures I believe they'll be huge.High end recognized brands with quality products are the future of the mainstream cannabis industry IMO. The US cannabis boom will be 10x the size of Canada's. They have the potential to be the Starbucks of cannabis imo.

Always do your own research before listening to a stranger online lol. I've linked everything I've read backing up my opinion. I'd love some feedback from more seasoned investors.

    Stock Simulator? Any Recommendation?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 06:20 AM PDT

    Hi!

I'm very new to the stock and forex market, but I would really like to get better and learn the basics. Currently I'm reading and taking in all I can on the subject, but would like to try it out, risk free. As I also feel that is a good way to learn.
I've tried the demo mode, on Plus500, but I find it to be a bit confusing? (might just be me).

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Also, those of you who are active in the market, do you prefer to use your own bank as the broker? Or do you use an online broker?

    Helen of Troy Crushes Earnings

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 05:12 AM PDT

Bought some shares before close on Friday and Helen of Troy just crushed earnings, up about 18% right now and climbing. How should I handle this? Sell at open and take my nice gains or hold? This is my first time playing the earnings game so I'm very pleased but don't know if there's a pattern for these companies that shoot up after earnings.

How do you detect order flow?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2018 10:43 PM PDT

I have red about order flow trading. To summarize: Institutions with big money can't place all their orders once, they would unbalance the market.

So they seek for liquidity points, such as stop losses or take profits in that way they let stop loss trigger moving the market trought them. My question is:

Since stock market (differently by forex) is centralized, with an orderbook,,, how do you detect the order flow trading by reading the orderbook?Which tecniques do you use?

Or do you go just by speculation: ''Since this is an important point of support, I ASSUME/speculate that institutional will hunt for stop losses and they will make a stop loss cascade happen''...

do you go with this generic assumption, or do you go with somenthing more detailed, when trading trought orderflow tecnique?

Could you share some specific link /resoruce/software where I can get all the informations about big orders and how to detect Iceberg orders?

Thank you very much, and sorry for a ''newby question''

Finding stocks on different markets, is there a easy way?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 12:18 AM PDT

    Morning! (In Germany at least)

I was wondering if someone here could give me a tip where I can find the stock names for different markets? It would be awesome if it had like a list or something so when I search for Square or Tencent it shows up with the name for the different markets so I know what to search for on DeGiro or another broker. :)

EG. I want to buy Mastercard, which in the US seems to be just MA, can I somehow find the name for the European market as in MA.F, or such?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tobias

    Stocks during Natural Disasters

    Posted: 08 Jul 2018 10:35 PM PDT

Due to having some stock of Japanese companies now and hearing about the recent mass flooding this weekend, I've been wondering how badly do natural disasters tend to influence stock there? While I know there are no certainties, do prices tend to fluctuate at the affected businesses of natural disasters or not at all? Does the stock market basically get put on hold for those companies while the disaster is taking place?
