Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:55 PM PDT Hello all, I am kickstarting the process of trying to sell my convenience store but am completely clueless as to how to proceed. I've looked into sites like BizBuySell but $50 a month to promote a small convenience store seems a bit steep to me. Anybody gone through this already that has a couple tips or pointers? Much appreciated. EDIT: Sorry, should've said where I was. I am located in LA, CA! [link] [comments] |
How do I get my first SEO client? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:13 PM PDT My business partner and I have decided to branch out from being employed at a digital marketing agency, to starting our own SEO agency based in Toronto, Canada. There are many reasons for this. Although I don't want to get too far into it, some of the main reasons are:
My business partner and I are currently finishing up our website (the MVP should be live by next week). It is called activebusinessgrowth.com. In the meantime, I created this post because we need help acquiring our first 10 clients. But we still need income to stay afloat - so we have to do this while still working for our current agency. If we can acquire these 10 initial clients, we figure this will be enough to quit our jobs and do this 100% full-time. So, we want to get these 10 clients in the shortest time-frame possible. But - we're not sure how to go about doing this. Should we fun FB ads with an offer of 50% off our SEO services for the first 6 months for the first 10 clients? Should we go around to major commercial intersections and tape this promotion on street light polls so that people stuck at a red light will see them? We are 100% confident in our abilities and know - from our experience at our current agency - that we can deliver. Right now, it's just a matter of acquiring the minimal threshold of clients needed to quit our jobs and go full time. Any advice would help. Thanks - we really do appreciate it! [link] [comments] |
How to boost traffic to your site to increase sales using Long tail SEO Posted: 04 Jul 2018 03:22 AM PDT LINK: https://realtimecrm.co.uk/posts/how-to-boost-traffic-to-your-site-using-long-tail-seo/ If you do business online then you need a long tail SEO strategy in place otherwise you're letting money slip through your fingers. The power of long tail SEO is two fold, it's easier to rank well for it and it converts much better than the head of the demand curve for online search. What is the long tail SEO?The demand curve for online search: https://realtimecrm.co.uk/img/marketing/long-tail-seo.png It's really simple the long tail represents around 70% of all searches online. They are generally low volume and low competition. It sounds counter intuitive at first but 15% of searches are unique, when you think about the idiosyncrasies of individual humans and the number of possible combinations of words possible it all begins to make much more sense. So from the example above the keyword CRM is high volume with a ton of monthly searches making it a high competition search term and therefore difficult to rank for. This represents the head of the search demand curve above. The keywords CRM for small business accountants that integrates into Xero on the other hand has fewer monthly searches but the competition for it is less so it's easier to rank highly for it. Think of your website as having two audiences, your actual site visitors who are real people and Google. Long tail SEO is geared towards Google which scans your website and decides how relevant it is and then that translates into a high ranking which is awesome as it'll drive more actual traffic to your site or you'll disappear into the search results pages almost no one ever goes to. But why rank for long tail keywords?Surely you want to rank highly for the keyword "CRM", it has more monthly searches so it's better right? This is true up to a point but in addition to being much more difficult to rank highly for it, there is less buyer intent there making it harder to convert the traffic from it. https://realtimecrm.co.uk/img/marketing/crm-google-search.png Compare it to "CRM for small business accountants that integrates into Xero" - Google returns 400 times less webpages for it, there's a lot less competition. Plus if you rank well for that and you are a CRM that does just that then the person entering that very specific search query is highly likely to convert into a customer. This is because you are relevant to them, that's the power of the long tail. https://realtimecrm.co.uk/img/marketing/long-tail-google-search.png To put it plainly let's say you were a mechanic. Being on the first page of Google for the search term "Mechanic" would be great except that you're limited by geography to Detroit, so its better to rank highly for "A mechanic in Detroit". This is what long tail SEO is all about, focus and bringing in high quality visitors to your site who are more likely to convert. A couple of long tail SEO strategiesWe're going to discuss two possible strategies to take advantage of the long tail of the search demand curve, a small scale focussed approach and a large scale less focussed approach. The underlying principle of both is making sure the content you produce is for keywords that have intent. We'll assume the intent is about purchasing your product or service. The scalpel strategyThe scalpel strategy involves going after a small number of search terms that are highly specific and serve the visitor intent. You build high quality landing pages that are specifically optimised for these search terms. The benefit of this strategy is that conversion is likely and the competition is very low. The search volume is not high but its highly qualified - for example that person is actively looking for a CRM and has a specific role and job function as well as problems they face that they need to solve, your landing page is specifically designed to deal with all of that. You're matching the perfect sales pitch to the perfect prospect. But remember we're not just producing content for real people but Google as well so make sure the content on the page is unique especially if you're making multiple pages targetting different job roles and functions. Here is a great video from Google describing what thin content looks like that they will penalise you for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-obcXkyA4 The broad sword strategyThe broad sword strategy involves a less targeted approach. The content you produce covers a wider range of potentially relevant keywords. We're trying to cover multiple long tail keywords. In our case that's where our blog comes into play. Our content marketing strategy is to provide small business tips - the goal is to produce valuable and engaging content that attracts small businesses who are the majority of our customers. We target a group of long tail keywords around that topic, for example How we grew our conversion rate by redesigning our website. https://realtimecrm.co.uk/img/marketing/blog-list.png The purpose of this strategy is less focussed on conversion and more on widening the top of the funnel, getting more eyeballs on your site and therefore potentially your product(s). It's about creating expertise in a specific area that Google recognises and therefore ranking highly for corollary search terms. How to find long tail keywords? There's no reason not to even combine the above two approaches, having a few really targeted pages and then a general broad sword strategy but first you have to think about what niche it is where you sit and the long tail keywords which are most relevant to you. Once you've done that then you can think about implementing the relevant strategies. So the next logical question to ask is how do I find long tail keywords? First think about your product or service and then come up with corresponding seed keywords. Seed keywordsare the original phrases from which you will develop your long tail keywords. For example, the seed keyword below is "dumbbells" and then it is modified to create new variations such as "dumbbell set" https://realtimecrm.co.uk/img/marketing/seed-keywords.png Once you have your seed keyword(s) then you need to come up with relevant variations to begin to curate a list of potential long tail keywords to target. In order to do just that you'll need to use a keyword research tool such as Google Keyword Planner. Alternatively, you can use Keywordtool.io. Then simply enter your seed word and then from the list of variations you get filter out the junk, these can be search phrases for third party rivals, stuff that is totally irrelevant such as search phrases with the word free in it if your product is not free, and any generic phrases. You want to get specific phrases that are relevant to you and easier to rank for. So for those keywords which have a high monthly search volume, it's best to filter them out as well. Now that you have a small list of long tail keywords you can begin to think about implementing the strategy that best suits your site around them and creating the relevant content. How can I ship items for cheap from home? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:59 PM PDT This summer I'm going to be selling a few of my crochet items, but before I officially start I wanted to find shipping rates. The cheapest I've found so far is from USPS but it is $6.70 for priority mail. It really doesn't have to be priority mail, but the website for the most part only gives me that option to choose from. I know when I've bought stuff on Etsy I was only charged like $4 for shipping. What I'm selling doesn't even weight a pound, and maybe about 8 inches in width and 8 in. length. I'd appreciate the help. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

I live in Hawaii, but run art studios in Boston area... Yes the dream life is possible. Posted: 04 Jul 2018 01:20 AM PDT Aloha I am creative director of a self startup design company in the Boston area. I went on to publish a magazine, open up studio spaces, and sell the company less than 2 years later and moved my family to Hawaii where I longed to return (yes I had lived here prior.) The company went under and I retrieved 100%. Today it has been 1.5 years that I have run 10,000 sq. ft. with 33 spaces. And I did it using social media, a website I created using a simple template based platform, and the help of my tenants. This October I return to all new tenants, and a brand new name I just launched. If this post picks up any traction I would be more that happy to answer any questions. But the point of my story if yes, you can be a designer, a dancer, a musician, or creative individual and make it in this world. I did and I now have 5 cats here and no sign of moving anywhere else. Oh, and the new brand? We are now looking to expand beyond the one building and city of Lowell. AMA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:23 PM PDT I know that since I am delivering a service, I am personally liable in a malpractice, negligence or wrongful death case -- that the corporation doesn't protect me as a c-corp would. To keep it simple, let's say I have $5000 in my personal savings account and $5000 in my business savings account. With respect to the aforementioned example, how would those assets be effected in the event of a judgment placed on me which surpassed my malpractice insurance coverage. FYI, I hold 100% of the shares in the corporation. [link] [comments] |

American express. What can they really do if I break their anti steering rule. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 10:14 PM PDT The recent Supreme Court ruling has sided with AE over their rules against steering customers to cheaper cards. I have always done this. I will only allow customers to use AMEX if the purchase is over $50. My question is what are they really going to do? Are the AMEX police going to come and beat me? Are they going to try and issue fines. Really, how can they enforce this? [link] [comments] |

Marketing a small business service: which one is better? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 12:05 PM PDT Cross-posting to /r/marketing TL;DR: break the argument between (option 1) setting up a new landing page on a new website with paid FB ads for a service offering, vs. (option 2) augmenting/refining existing pages (low traffic but converting 1/3) for the service and using AdWords to send paid search traffic on top of organic traffic. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Long time lurker, but throwaway because reasons. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I need outside advice to break an argument with my business partner about marketing a service. Our website has been up for about 9 years. It gets about 4400 visits/month. I wrote almost all of the content about 8 years ago, with minor updates until 2014, and then did almost nothing since except all of the software updates. The partner thinks the website is "worthless" in our industry (residential real estate appraisals), so we don't allocate any resources for it. I disagree, but I don't have majority say. --------------------------- Year ago, I wrote a series of 4 long, related articles about one topic, each one carefully targeting one or two keywords so as to not cannibalize the traffic between them. One gets about 1000 visits/month, one gets about 325 visits/month and the lowest gets only about 30 visits/month with traffic reflecting actual search volume differences. In addition, we have another page (different keywords) that offers a paid service (measuring houses) to do what the articles discuss because even if someone reads the articles, it's just too hard for the typical layperson to do right. The page for the paid service only gets about 18 visits/month, and of those about 6 to 8 call or email and ask for the service. Of those, 4 to 6 will place an order. SEMrush research tells me that search volume for most search terms for variations on the paid service is really low. We know of only one other company locally that offers something similar but the two service offerings are qualitatively different and are designed to meet different needs. So, competition for the low volume search terms is also low. ----------------------------------------------------------------- So, here is where I need guidance. Here are the two "sides" of this argument for how to get MORE business. I'mma not telling who is who for which wants to do which.
From the marketing perspective, which of the two options is better? Is there a better short-term, and better long-term option? [link] [comments] |
Mobile Printer - Phoenix, AZ Summer Heat Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:11 AM PDT Hey Reddit, Our primary concern is the negative affect of 105+ degree heat on a mobile printing solution. We want to plan for the worst case scenario (i.e. printer remains in Van for 4-5 hours during mid day heat). We're interested in this unit (HP OfficeJet 200 Portable Printer) and researching different avenues to protect the investment, i.e. Insulated Food Bags. Any ideas on this project? [link] [comments] |
Startup 4-6 partner management consulting firm, 10-20 staff: LLP or LLC? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 05:52 PM PDT It's my understanding that all owners of an LLP have limited personal liability for business debts; ditto for owners of an LLC. If this is the case, can someone explain why - seemingly - all management consulting firms prefer LLPs over LLCs? What am I fundamentally misunderstanding? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:32 AM PDT I'm looking at starting a business. I was gonna setup an Llc for this business. My question is I see that a P.O. box is ok but you need a registered agent. If I put my home address as registered agent does that come with any problems? The reason I ask is because I have a small woodworking business now that the home address on. The state tried to charge me taxes on the house as part of the business. Which i got cleared up but was a pain to deal with. [link] [comments] |
Need help making our Organization "Official" Posted: 03 Jul 2018 09:35 AM PDT I help run an e-sports organization online, Currently, we take in contestant entry fees via paypal/eventbrite, and occasionally some sponsors, and then pay the money taken in through the entry fees and sponsorships as prize money depending on where you finish in the game. Some money is also used to pay our broadcast sponsors as well as social media promotion. Essentially, we want to either create an LLC or a nonprofit for the organization, but also try to minimize the amount of taxes we'd have to pay. However, I really have no idea where to start looking for information here or who to talk with. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Software for Accounts & Sales? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 11:34 AM PDT Hi All Our SME has 20 employees and two accountants. We get by on excel and it's becoming a real pain. I need recommendations for Cloud accounting software that links accounting with sales and which provides basic reporting (inventory, production, warehouse and procurement are not required). Budget is definitely an issue and whatever we choose must be easy to implement. Ideally I'd be able to implement it myself. I would need around 5-6 users max. I'm lost - can anyone recommend such software? [link] [comments] |
New business startup and need marketing help Posted: 03 Jul 2018 02:45 PM PDT I don't understand marketing...more specifically How to market(ing). How does one initially go out and get the word out on a brand new business? These are the problems I'm having. Billboards? Been told they're over priced and don't work. Newspaper ads? "You mean people still read those?" Radio "Yes, I DO have a great face for radio, thank you" TV...I don't think I'm to this point yet and probably really expensive. Social media? I have 200 friends. Half are local and the rest are around the world. What works, what doesn't? Thank much [link] [comments] |
Expanding House Cleaning Business Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:44 AM PDT My significant other has a part time home cleaning business. I've helped with some basic guidance and advice on services, pricing, proposals, marketing, bookkeeping, etc. She's been "employing" a few friends on cleaning jobs, not as real employees, to get things going. The business is actually doing well and she has more business than she can handle, and it's growing with a lot of vacation rental business in the area. The friends model is no longer viable. She needs to get some real employees in order to scale the business and take a step up into managing it and employees rather than doing all the grunt work. It's the classic business "good problem to have". We're struggling with all the details with getting employees. 1099 doesn't seem viable, if following the rules with who is truly a W-2 employee versus a 1099. Someone recommended looking into temps. There doesn't appear to be a temp agency in our area and although temp agencies handle a lot of the complexities around employees, it's likely economically unviable. I'm coming to the conclusion that we really just need to bite the bullet, hire a few part timers, get workman's comp, keep their time under 27 hours per week to avoid tripping the rule for benefits, and procure the services of a payroll provider to handle payroll minutia. I'm aware of the fun of managing workers (i.e. people not showing up, showing up drunk, etc.) so no need to go into that. Any advice on taking a business from this initial stage to a "real" business with some employees? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Retail business Inventory Budget? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 12:57 PM PDT Hey guys! I have a question, and would like a « Explain it to me like I'm 5 years old » kind of answer. How do I budget a retail store start-up? I just don't get it. I understand a manufacturing project: I invest 100K$ in design and research + 900K$ in manufacturing 100K of those things. And I sell them 20$ each and get my money back + 100% in profit. I understand a project or service budget: I get 100K$ to make a project, I pay 75K$ to employees and services, I keep 25K$ Retail store: I understand the operating costs (employees, rent, heat, taxes, phone, decoration, bank fees, etc) but the rolling aspect of the inventory is bugging me! Is there a simple way to conceive this aspect? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Customer payment reminder software, preferably with some level of Quickbooks integration? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:14 AM PDT We use Quickbooks desktop. The one issue our business always has is getting customers to pay on a timely basis. I would love to have, if it is available, a solution that automates the process of sending past due invoice reminders and also a way for customers to pay their entire account balance online. We do most of our billing through e-mail. With Quickbooks, we have to manually send out statements and past due invoice reminders. It is time consuming and a bit of a nuisance. Also, with Quickbooks desktop at least, our customers can only pay each invoice individually instead of being able to pay their entire outstanding balance in one transaction. It would be nice if a software existed that has some integration with Quickbooks desktop, at least the ability to import / export data. Does such a thing exist? [link] [comments] |
