How to request Insurance Coverage History - not Proof of Coverage

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:44 AM PDT

Hi, I was hoping someone can help me understand how to best ask Geico to send me a document stating the Insurance Coverage History (I am not sure what the correct word for this is). I am looking for something that is more than Proof of Insurance. I am currently overseas and my local insurance company would need this so I can have a discounted rate since I have no driving record with this country. I tried to give them, local country, my DMV records but they want Insurance Coverage History detailing any damages and claims made with Geico on Geico's letterhead. I asked Geico for the below and they only sent me Proof of Coverage, is there a better phraseology that I can ask?

Required information from the local overseas insurance company:

    1. Beginning and end date of document record, showing cars insured with Geico

    2. Name of insured parties (my husband and I)

    3. All stated damages and claims, indicating who is at fault if claims were made.

    4. Accident Forgiveness due to a clean driving record with Geico.

    5. Any discount received due to clean driving record.

Thanks for you help on this. I was living in NY State when I was covered with Geico.

    Hail damage on car-have questions

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 04:22 PM PDT

So I bought a car about a year ago on loan. Month later someone hit my car while I was at work. Guy give me info, got it taken care of thru insurance a few months later. Then in May 2017, a week after I got my car back from the auto shop from that accident, my car got hailed on bad (lived in CO all my life, never seen hail that bad). I waited several months until I placed a claim on it (around December). Adjuster came out, got about 7 grand for the damage. So I waited to get the car fixed, knowing that hail season would be back. Sure enough, one storm came through and damaged the car even further. I talked to my agent and they told me I would have to file a separate claim on the existing damage on the car. I have yet to do so. I'm ok with the damage on the car and would like to just pay off the car but I've read that I have to repair the car (depending on the contract). Sorry, I just have little idea what to do... Any advice would be helpful.

TL:FL got hail damage on my car, not sure how to proceed.

    Sorry I'm dumb...

What do to after a claim (for dummies)?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:57 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

We had a big hail storm a few weeks ago, and we finally had the adjuster out and got the estimate and payment letter. I'm really confused and not sure how to proceed. The payment letter basically says the following.

    We have $79,217.94 in damages.

    Minus "recoverable depreciation" of -$24,229.73

    Minus non-recoverable depreciation -$1757.33

    Minus our deductible -$2500

    = $50,730.88

(Plus about $595.95 in personal property, but I am not worried about that at the moment)

So, from what little I understand, the check for $50,730.88 has been cut jointly to me and the mortgage company (yes?). So I need to talk to the mortgage company to access that money to do the repairs. What about some of the piddly stuff I can fix myself? Will they write me a check for those items they allow me to do myself, or do I need to give them receipts to be reimbursed for every little thing?

Additionally, our adjuster said that after the repairs are completed, they will issue the recoverable depreciation. Will they release all of that $24,299.73, or only the amount absolutely necessary to finish paying contractors? And will we have to provide proof of every little thing being repaired, or only the big stuff (namely the roof)?

Lastly, is there some kind of time limit to do all this and to get the recoverable depreciation? Some (most) of the areas that need repair, we were going to change/update anyhow, but since the costs for some things will be beyond the insurance payout they would need to wait. And is it a problem for me to be making changes to the house with the insurance money so long as the item in question is fixed/made better?

Thank you for any help you can give.

    Renters Insurance Question

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:00 PM PDT

A fire recently broke out in my town in Colorado on Tuesday night. I didn't have renters insurance until I bought it through Allstate last night and it came into effect this morning. My apartment isn't currently in danger but in the event that over the next day or so something happens and the fire hits my place would I be covered?

Any car insurance investigators out there?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 02:02 PM PDT

Investigator coming to look at the "black box" on my 2001 GMC Jimmy. They are questioning the date of the accident despite multiple witnesses. Will the date of the accident be in the SDM? I don't think the SDM stores that info so why then, do they wanna pull it?

Girlfriend getting her own car insurance, one recent accident

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 09:24 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Helping my girlfriend get her own car insurance for the first time, as we recently moved to another state. About a year ago, she was driving a company car and rear ended someone. She was given a citation, which was eventually dismissed after her companies car insurance paid for the other persons damages.

When applying for car insurance, most ask about past tickets and accidents. Not trying to game the system by any means — just want to make sure she isn't reporting anything that doesn't need to be reported.

    1) Does she need to report the citation, even though it was dismissed?

    2) Does the accident need to be reported as well? I imagine so, but thought there's a chance it doesn't since it was handled by her companies car insurance

My car was totaled and I have broken bones/surgery. Other driver at fault. All lawyers want to work with me, but what should I expect?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:55 PM PDT

Every lawyer I have contacted is interested in working with me. Each one of them had said this is a six figure case, but I am wondering how much I am actually going to make out of this. It is a very cut and dry case - I was hit, severely injured, out of work for six weeks... how much am I personally going to make from this? (I understand it's difficult to Ballpark these types of situations, I would just like an estimate.) If I get 100k and they take 1/3, I have roughly 70K. My bills may be 50K. So I have personally 20K left over? Is that a fair assessment?

edit Not a PIP state. (Ga) all lawyers are referrals from close friends.

HELP! Retroactive denial for nursing home stay!?!

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:36 PM PDT

Hi all, not sure if this is the place to ask. 75 year old dad was in a SNF (fell, broke his neck, incomplete spinal injury). The insurance notified our family and the SNF itself of denial of coverage on June 19th. But insurance said he lost coverage as of June 14th.

He has BCBS as his primary. He has Medicare part b, but not part a.

Has anyone heard of this kind of retroactive denial? That means we have to pay for the 5 days out of pocket... $2,000 per day...$10,000 in total.

I'm having a hard time seeing how this is fair? If the insurance had told us on June 13th that he was going to lose coverage we would have picked him up that day. :( any suggestions?

Does deductible change if you are a new policy holder?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:48 PM PDT

If my car were to get in a crash leaving the dealers lot, just insured that day, would my deductible be the same or would there be a "waiting period" that does something like triple the deductible amount?

I know this is probably different for every type of policy and every company but is there a standard?

Please help there is no info anywhere else online

Forgot to change address for auto-insurance

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:48 PM PDT

I moved about 6 months ago and forgot to change my address with GEICO. I just got in an accident and realized they still had my old one when I went to file a claim. I'm concerned they may not honor my policy if I change it now, before I file the claim.

What should/can I do? Try to proceed under my old address? Try to explain to them what happened and pay any penalties?

Has anyone else experienced this or know what to do in this situation?

    Thank you!

Can I get an umbrella policy without a non-owners car insurance?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 04:26 PM PDT

I live in Seattle and don't own a car. I own a house and have homeowners insurance through State Farm. I looked into non-owners car insurance to cover me for liability when I rent cars, but it seemed extremely expensive. Could I get an umbrella policy without having a car or car insurance, and would it cover my for liability when I rent cars? Would an umbrella policy be worthwhile for any other reason?

    Allstate Drivewise Stipulations

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 03:50 PM PDT

    Hello all,

Sorry for asking what is probably a common question, but I could not find any recent on closely related threads to what I'm looking for.

My agent told me about Drivewise a few days ago and said that I need to record only 1 drive every 6 months for a 3% discount, it can even just be a 2 min drive down the street.

Am I able to only record 1 drive every 6 months? I would preferably like to pick and choose when I do record in order to do 50+, but I just want to make sure it is not always on. I have read about a lot of other horror stories and would like to avoid it if its still the case.

Questions about collision insurance waiver/"stored vehicle" status for inoperable financed car

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:12 AM PDT

My financed car had catastrophic engine failure in Feb 2018. I've continued paying the loan and full insurance while I scrape the money together to replace the engine. I recently purchased a 'beater' car to use as my primary car while I'm saving. I contacted my bank to see if I could get the insurance requirement waived and they sent me a "request for temporary waiver of collision insurance coverage for stored vehicle" form. I really don't want them to deny the temporary waiver so I'm looking for help with the application.

My questions: 1) Is there a general maximum time period for the waiver? The form asks for start/end dates. I was thinking of requesting 6 mos or 1 yr. Thoughts?

    2) The vehicle is currently 'stored' in my driveway. Will this suffice or do I need an actual storage unit? Will adding my address as the storage location red flag my request?

The car is 100% inoperable so I'm not trying to scam them or anything. Just want this to be as easy as possible. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Non renewal of auto insurance but have damage from a month ago? Claim it?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:13 AM PDT

    Hello,

So my wife is a bad driver... a few bad decisions (carrying her purse on her lap), a poor idea of where the car ends, and feeling "rushed" when other drivers are behind her have led to 3 collisions in the last year... one where she slammed into a parked car, two where she scraped the car on stationary objects. I didn't file the third one because I wasn't sure what would happen to our rates and I've had a busy last month of work.

This weekend I got hit by someone opening their door into traffic. I have a dashcam and it's clearly not my fault. I'm in Illinois so the cop told me there's a law that puts all the responsibility on the person opening their door into traffic, too. But, anyway, my car will be in the body shop soon and I thought I might take care of the other scrape out of pocket.

BUT, I just got a letter for non-renewal from my insurance provider. What should I do? Just claim the rest of the body damage? Or will that mess with my hunt for new insurance?

    Thanks.

How long for State Farm to process change of address?

Medical insurance plan not reimbursing for ACA covered out-of-network preventative visits for my toddler

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 01:31 PM PDT

I can't get a straight answer from my insurance company regarding why they are not reimbursing my out-of-network claim. My child had a 15 mos preventive visit and received immunizations. The immunizations were reimbursed but the visit was denied with the code of H5188- we have paid for this service on another line of this claim. My insurance company is saying a modifier is required, but will not say which one. A reason they gave was that only one preventive visit per year is allowed, which is wrong due to my kid's age and ACA guidelines- but that also doesn't jive with the explanation of remark code. Another reason I was given was that my child can't have 2 preventative services on one day. Yet another reason I was given is that I need two separate receipts showing the services were billed separately. When I submit for just a preventative visit, the claim processes without issue, and when I submit for just immunizations, the claim processes without issue, but together on one detailed receipt I get a denial and no clear explanation. Does anyone know if a modifier is actually needed, and if so which one?

Backed into, insurance found the other person at fault - cashing out and want to know what to ask for in regards to compensation

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 01:18 PM PDT

Hello, I hope this is the right community to ask. (if this isn't the correct place for this question, please let me know the correct subreddit! Thank you!)

I was backed into while in a parking lot. Insurance found them at fault. I am scheduled to get an estimate this week through one of their insurances' service centers. However, I want to cash out and take my car to someone I trust. My question is: what all can I ask for in compensation? Obviously I want the amount for the cost of the repair but can I also ask for compensation of my time for the repair and possibly having to get a rental vehicle? This is my first time dealing with this kind of thing. All advice is welcome!

    Total loss reimbursement

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 12:55 PM PDT

Hi, I recently had my 2011 Chevy Camaro 2SS/RS stolen and totally chopped. The car only had 34,000 miles and had virtually all the options you could get on that vehicle in 2011, including Boston premium radio, 2SS package, RS package, etc. KBB values it at around 23,000, while carfax gave me an estimate at about 21,000. My issue is that my damage adjuster from insurance is trying to tell me the car is only worth 13,000. That is simply absurd. Is there any way I can fight this and get the true value of my vehicle? Who would I speak to? Any help would be appreciated from anyone who knows more. Thanks!

I bought a car insurance policy on a car that I don't own, what should I do?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 12:53 PM PDT

My wife and I married last summer and moved to Rhode Island from Indiana shortly after. Her parents own the car that she drives, but wanted me to pay for car insurance. I took out a policy online with Geico to insure the car in Rhode Island and didn't think much about it. I'm now wondering now how I was able to do this? My wife's parents are the sole owners of the car and they are not listed on the insurance policy at all. What should I do to make sure I don't run into any problems with this?

    Cobra Insurance Retroactive Question

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 11:14 AM PDT

I currently have high deductible insurance with most of the premium paid by my current employer. I will be leaving my employer next week (July 9), and I understand that I will be eligible for COBRA insurance. My new health insurance does not kick in until Sept 1. I will effectively have no insurance for ~50 days if I choose not to pay for COBRA or another insurance plan from the marketplace.

My question is: In case of a 1/10000 chance event, actually how retroactive is 'retroactive'?

If I rack up let's say tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, would I be able to pay my COBRA premium AFTER the injury/treatment? Would I still be covered? I'm asking this because I may not choose to pay for COBRA, and will pay the 2 months of worth of penalty for having continuous coverage (I'm a 20's male with perfect health)

Not sure if this matters, but I will be traveling for 30 days around Western Europe during this period. Does the retroactive part matter at all when dealing with international claims.

One of the options for health insurance is a PPO plan with In-Network deductables of of 1500(individual) and 3000(family) and an annual max of 3000 and 6000

Are the deductible amounts the only factor for the IRS to allow HSA contributions or are there other factors?
