How to play on the plastic straw/bags revolution?

Probably late to a pretty obvious fad/movement, but what are some smart plays for biodegradable renewable disposables?

Which one is a better investment VTI or VOO?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 08:08 AM PDT

Is the S&P 500 index safer than the total market index, since you only have large cap stocks? They seem to produce relatively the same returns. Anyone favor one over the other? or it doesn't really matter.

What was the first stock you ever bought?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 10:41 AM PDT

Mine was Concentric Networks(CNCX) during the late 1990s or the dot-com era. It was a web hosting firm and I made a decent profit. The company was later acquired by some other firm when the dot com bubble collapsed.

What is the largest gain you've ever made on a trade?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 08:02 AM PDT

I mean this for realized gains. Paper gains do not count so if you only buy and hold then you've not actually realized anything.

    Gradus AD opening it's stocks

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 05:08 AM PDT

So today I just turned 18 and for long time I've been interested in economics and companies. I have a budget of around 150-200 leva, which is around 75-100 euros. I live in Bulgaria and I'm getting in to 12th grade. I'm willing to lose all that value so I'll take all the risk.

So there is a big company in Bulgaria called Gradus. It produces chicken meat. It's been growing a lot, now it's owning 35% of the market in Bulgaria and it's expanding in other countries. On the 18-19th of June it's gonna do an IPO. Each share will cost 1.95-2.15 leva (~1 euro). I'll provide links to the investor information and general info of the company.

My main question is what actually happens to the starting share price when a company opens it's shares? I've never witnessed this kind of situation. Most of the time the discussion is about companies already in the game, but this player is just entering. What should i expect and should I buy shares right away on the same they they open them so I can buy them cheap before the price goes up or should I wait and see what will happen to the price?

    http://www.gradus.bg/en/history

    Edit 1:

Generally speaking I would want to buy and hold on for the long term, but with this IPO... Maybe if I buy just seconds after the IPO and then the price goes really high, I would think about getting some fast profit. But I don't thinks 20% profit from like 100 euros will be worth it. I like the companies values and I think they will get really big. If I hold my future stocks and the EU economics are stable, I think I can get a lot more profit.

And maybe later i could invest even more money in it. I mean I could increase my budget 100-200%.

    DIA or VOO?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 06:47 AM PDT

Both are near their annual high. Which is a better move if investing in just one? The position will be maintained for 10-12 months.

I was reading an article on Indian stock Ashok Leyland whitch has operations in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mauritius, the Middle East and Africa. Though sharing about it. I am sharing the key points that I found important for investing if you need the article source its link is at the end.

If it is not helpful please ignore.

Ashok Leyland is engaged in Commercial vehicles and related components. Through its subsidiaries, it is engaged in manufacturing and trading in Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle, Light Commercial Vehicles, Passenger vehicles, automotive aggregates, vehicle financing and engineering design services.

As per recent 'Global Conference 2018' of Ashok Leyland the positive takeaways from the conference are:

    • Promising product launches across categories in both M&HCV & LCV segments,
    • Growth in M&HCV to sustain for the next two years on the back of infrastructure growth & pre-buying ahead of BSVI emission norms,
    • Expansion of LCV portfolio to address white spaces but only segments that meet the internal RoCE target,
    • The company is looking to capitalise on the after sales & spares business opportunity through its digital initiatives,
    • Focus on core competency of manufacturing vehicles in the defence business with no intention to enter ammunition part of the business,
    • Continued focus on goals outlined in last year's conference i.e. reducing the share of the cyclical business.

State of semiconductor/tech sector in June - Overpriced? Time for a quick swing trade?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 05:25 AM PDT

What does everyone think for SOXX & SOXL for this month? I've been watching the semiconductor industry closely and prices are nearing yearly highs again.

I personally believe the industry is going to experience a June selloff / adjustment. Historically, June has not been a great month for the tech sector as a whole. Adding to that, Trump is supposively going to impose new tech related trade restrictions again China towards end of month.

I plan on doing a lot of DD on Sunday. Just wanted some others opinions 😊

Selling a covered call on the expiration day

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 09:44 PM PDT

I have a covered call that I want to sell. I DO NOT WANT TO EXERCISE IT. So, if it is in the money, how close to the expiration date should I go? Can I reasonably sell on the day it expires? Should I sell the day before?

    Long CXO?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 11:04 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I am looking into the CXO which is a US domestic shale oil producer. At the moment, CXO is trying to acquire another shale oil producer RSPP. CXO had a strong Q1 and their P/E is relatively low (around 20, which is below the industry). I read some reports about the cost shale oil per barrel is around $40 on average for US shale producer and current oil price is at $65. I would shale oil production will remain profitable even if OPEC raises supply or US domestic producers add more supply. I am thinking that recent decline of CXO is caused by the fact investors dislike merger deal with RSPP. Could anyone share some opinions here?

    $10,000 to invest

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 04:20 PM PDT

I'm currently invested in BAC AND AT&T, but want to branch out more.

I'm still a student and have $10,000 I want to invest (don't mind if I take bigger risks). I don't have to worry about paying for school/car insurance/etc.

I've read some previous posts about index funds/etc, but I'm looking for more aggressive plays? I don't mind losing the money or taking a risk on something newer. Obviously not manly enough to do options or penny stocks or gamble it....

I was looking at maybe CGC?

I'm hoping to get other's opinions on stocks as I have a slight bias towards tech(NVIDIA,INTEL,MICROSOFT, etc) as I'm a big tech person.

I was wondering if you guys had suggestions on things to invest in?
