Next of kin denying tests and deviating from Doctors' plan Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:11 AM PDT Hey everyone I'm in Florida. I had to call 911 after discovering my boyfriend writhing and moaning on the floor in the night, unable to stay awake for long. In ICU, he has had a 103 degree fever and has gone from glucose of 1200 to around 250, and his sodium is also being managed. He has been diagnosed with diabetes, but his erratic behavior, far outside the range of DKA behavior, is unknown and believed to be caused by infection somewhere. However, his urine and blood havr all tested negative for viral/bacterial infection even as his white blood cell count is wayyyy above normal. His family wont let us do lumbar puncture to test the csf. His fever went down, until I called his next of kin (Mother and Father). His mom is a nurse practicioner, but is mostly in a teaching role and is mentally unstable (hoarding, multiple storage units full of food, clothes, and rats). Because of her perceived skill at medicine, she has been micromanaging all hospital staff that she can, and denying procedures such as a lumbar puncture (the doctors think meningitis is very possible) and pushing for his breathing tube to come out prematurely. His fever had been controlled by tylenol, a cooling blanket, and a fan. She insisted that these things be taken off and said she would agree to lumbar puncture if his fever spiked again. Well, his fever did spike, back up to 103. His respiration is getting worse, he is still agitated whenever woken, and they are discussing inducing medical coma today. She was informed and backpedeled on her previous claim to consent the LP. I am just waiting and watching my love get worse. His fever is still raging. I am tired of her playing doctor with the man I have loved for years and have lived with as partners for 4 years. The doctors are frustrated, with their tests being rejected and replaced with her own requests. I live in Florida so I am not recognized as a common law wife. Is there anything I can do? Can I have another doctor elected his surrogate because she has a conflict of interest in practicing medicine on her own son? I am ready to get an advance directive from him when he wakes up, but I dont know when he will and if he will still be himself when he does. They have always had a bad relationship, him and his parents. She admitted to me that she knew he would be upset if he even knew she was present at the hospital. Even she knows his wishes but wont follow them, and his dad follows along. What options do I have? Thank you so much! I'm spending every waking moment with him and I want him to please have a second chance at life. [link] [comments] |
[Kansas] Pest control company delivered advertisement with live roach hidden inside Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:54 AM PDT I found an advertisement hung on my doorknob last night. You know the type - a plastic baggie, full of little papers and pamphlets for a local business. I took it off of the doorknob without looking at it and tossed it inside on the floor for a moment. I was only outside maybe 30 seconds, as I was just making a quick trip out to let a dog we're sitting pee before bed. I took a closer, casual look at the advertisement upon returning, intending to just empty it into my recycling bin inside and throw away the baggie. That's when I noticed a live roach inside the bag (and that the ad was for a pest control company). I held the top tightly closed and had my wife come take a picture of it, then I tossed the whole bag outside as I was unsure if there might be more roaches in the bag and I didn't want to risk them escaping into my home. Around 5 minutes later I went back outside with a shoe and killed the roach by smashing it through the bag. I left the bag out front and plan to leave it there all week as garbage day was yesterday, my HOA doesn't let us keep garbage cans outside, and I know that smashed roaches can still cause infestations because they can carry live eggs. This whole thing just reeks of bad intent. My wife thinks the roach could've just crawled into the bag on its own - and that is possible of course but it's not like we have them crawling all over the outside of our house (I've literally never seen one in or on our home or anywhere else in the neighborhood). The bag would also just be plain difficult to get into - the way it was hung had the top pulled pretty taut, it was hung on the end of one of these types of storm door handle so the cross-sectional area this roach would've had to happen across is pretty darn small, and the roach would've had to climb across this slippery plastic (which it clearly couldn't grip or it would've gotten out as it was certainly trying to do) in order to enter the bag in the first place. The timing seems to fit perfectly too - the pest control company knows that most households are going to just pick this ad up and bring it inside to their garbage/recycling area, where it will sit for a week (since it was delivered just hours after the weekly garbage pickup) which is plenty of time for the roach to work its way out of the bag and potentially cause an infestation. So is there anything I can do about this? Is there some category of police report I can file just so there's a record of this, in case they've been doing it to other houses too then something might be done? Edit: Just so people can get the whole story without having to skim the comments: I signed up for Nextdoor so I could inquire if any neighbors had the same thing happen to them. When I went to take a picture to go along with my post I discovered that behind the pest ad in the packet was the page advertising the flier delivery service that had dropped it off - turns out the whole bag was full of ads for local contractors who wanted me to keep my business local if I needed anything done. Since this packet appears to have not even been delivered directly by the pest control people I now think that this was probably just a coincidence. They probably just used a not-so-clean storage area for their fliers before delivery, mine happened to get a bug in it, and they happened to put the pest control ads on top of the stack. If it turns out that multiple neighbors also got roach-ridden bags I may file a complaint with the state, but there's been no responses yet on the neighborhood's social media so that seems unlikely at this point. Thanks for all the responses, I wasn't expecting nearly this much interest in my question. [link] [comments] |
My dashcam caught service techs taking my car on joyrides. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:29 AM PDT Hi all, I've run into a situation with my dealership in which I caught a couple of their service techs taking my modified GTI on joyrides when it was supposed to be in for some minor warranty work(that did not require my vehicle being driven). I am always very clear about there being a camera in my car and have it set to announce itself audibly when the car starts. The techs acknowledge the camera, sharing some dialogue on it, and decide to take it and drive recklessly anyway. They're peeling out, flooring the gas pedal, speeding, weaving through traffic, and apparently going on a food run. This occurred on the same day I had called to ask the status of my vehicle and was told that the work had not yet been completed. It was maybe a 5hr job, but they had a backlog of cars to be serviced and offered me a loaner; I was fine with that. I was not fine with dealership employees getting their kicks with someone else's property. So as far as I understand in the state of Texas, joyriding is illegal and falls under Sec. 31.07. UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A VEHICLE. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly operates another's boat, airplane, or motor-propelled vehicle without the effective consent of the owner. If I'm wrong in any regard, please correct me. I've since brought the issue up with the dealership and the illegal acts displayed on the video(reckless driving, speeding, and joyriding). They're very embarrassed and I've been in conversation off and on since yesterday. Now, I'm wasn't necessarily looking for any compensation out of this whole ordeal, but they've since offered me $1,500 with the hopes to retain my business. I'm not certain I will ever return, even though I liked that place, but I am concerned about why they think the $1,500 is necessary. One of my main arguments when talking with management was that the techs could potentially done damage to the turbo and since my car is modified my warranty would be no good to replace it. I would be left with the bill on that. Is this money for that reason as a 'just in case'? Is this money in hopes that I don't put them on blast for this incident? Is it just to avoid a lawsuit? Is a lawsuit even necessary? I guess I'm still just putting my thoughts together, so any input or advice is most welcome. They're offer seems generous to me and likely what I'd hope to get even if I had pressed legal action, but feel free to correct me. Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
Boss demands we stop speaking Spanish as it is "disrespectful". Posted: 27 Jun 2018 08:27 PM PDT Hi all, First time time posting on Reddit from a lurker here! For the last two years I have been working at a regional bank here in the area. I work as a teller and translator, as I am bilingual in English and Spanish. We have 2 other Spanish speakers here on a staff of about 25, and in our downtime in between customers, I often chat with the other tellers in Spanish to practice, or have casual conversations. It has never been a problem until today. I was called into my bosses office where I was berated for using Spanish with my coworkers, as it was "obviously disrespectful" and I was offending her. I apologized as I didn't mean to be disrespectful, and explained that me speaking a language that I knew wasn't an insult to her. She told me it was unacceptable and I am only allowed to have interactions with my coworkers in English, and the only acceptable time to use Spanish is if I have to translate for the Bank. Is this an infringement of my rights?? I'm in Colorado. Thanks in advance Reddit!! Edit: Thanks for all the help! I guess the first thing I will do is contact HR with documentation, and let them know it's a breach of my rights in personal conversations. I was under the impression that English only rules have to be across the board to apply, and if she wants me to translate with Spanish customers, than she can't prohibit me from speaking Spanish in casual conversations. I will continue speaking Spanish, and see if t provokes retaliation. FYI my direct manager speaks Spanish (the bank manager was the one who told me not to speak Spanish) so I don't know why it would be a problem. If i get fired than I will get a lawyer and try to get my college paid for!:) they are also the official bank of my liberal ass college so I can write a letter to the college to if needs be. thanks Reddit. Verizon Wireless wants me to pay them $16k for telemarketing scam. (X-post from personalfinance) Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:05 PM PDT I've been sitting on this for longer than I'd like, and I've run out of ideas, so here goes. A few years ago, maybe five, I put my nephew on my phone plan since he was underage and I was trying to help him out. About a year went by and he stopped paying for his part of the bill, so I froze his line. A few months passed and I was told that the freeze on the line needed to be lifted so the plan could run its duration and I could return the phone and pay the remainder with a fee to end the line. About a month after I lifted the freeze, my bill jumped up to double the normal price. I figured it was a few fees from the freeze or something so I paid it to reactivate my own line. Silly me. The next month my bill jumped from $200 to $16,000. Thinking this was a clerical mistake on Verizon's end, I called their customer service. I was told that I should have taken out a travel plan with them if I had intended on going to Hong Kong. I don't even have a passport, nor does my nephew. I immediately asked them to investigate. The case went through their fraud department and they found that the phone was being used for telemarketing calls in Hong Kong and running my bill up to about $80 USD per minute. They also kindly told me that since I never reported the phone as lost or stolen that I would have to pay the fee. I never went to Hong Kong nor did I ever consent to the phone being recycled. It was against my knowledge and only discovered months after the fact when I asked Verizon. Turns out my nephew wanted to spite me for freezing his line and recycled his phone for cash at a mall kiosk. Instead of reformatting/recycling the phone, EcoATM (the kiosk company) used the phone for telemarketing. My credit now has a major delinquency. I can't get a credit card, a house, or any loans in my name. I've also had employers ask me about this. I don't know what to do. I'm a resident of Pennsylvania. Any other questions will be answered upon request. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:30 AM PDT I have a DC license plate and residential parking permit (updated through 2019) for one of the NW DC zones. I have parked on the street for the past four years, never ran into any trouble. Before my trip (June 13), I parked my car on a residential street, across from some townhouses. The road had been renovated in the past half-year. I parked there because I figured there would be a low chance that: 1) my car would be broken into [relatively well-to-do neighborhood] and 2) there would be an "emergency no-parking" sign which requires vehicles to vacate that street area. During my trip, I was never contacted through phone or email about any issue. Well, when I came back (June 27), I went to find my car after dropping my luggage at my apartment. It was missing. No sign of road/tree damage, and cars were fully parked on the street. I ran around a couple blocks double-clicking the car key lock in hopes that maybe I forgot where I parked. No dice. However, I remembered you can check tickets and fines on your plate online. So, I ran home and entered my license plate. This is what I saw: 6/19 Emergency No Parking…. [location: where I parked]…$50. Well, the very high traffic street that they towed me to was about three streets over from where my car was originally parked. I ran down the street and eventually found my car parked, no boot or signs of scratches/vandalism. Unfortunately, it was during rush hour and I had already received a ticket: 6/27 No STP/STND PM Rush…$100. On the car windshield, there were only two tickets: Overtime meter on 6/22 and the ticket I just received. Luckily, everything still worked when I got in, so I re-parked the car and went back home. Would I have any argument to dispute the tickets/fines? I don't know why they would tow me to two metered areas on two separate occasions, to just relocate me down the street during rush hour. I don't know why they would relocate me to another area of emergency no parking. I really hope I am not shit out of luck; I was unable to do anything about my towed car because I was out of the country. Also, I am currently a student so paying all $660 will wipe out a hefty chunk of my already small bank account. I appreciate all advice!!! I can try to provide any other info that will help! TLDR: Parked on street for two weeks with residential permit. Towed and proceeded to be fined for 6 days, $660 worth of various violations. Could not do anything because I was out of the country. [New York State] Am I allowed to unplug networking equipment installed in my apartment? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:38 AM PDT The apartment complex I live in is now offering a (mandatory) 'media package' through a local ISP. When I renew my lease in May, I will be required to sign up for the $60/mo internet service. In order to provide this package, they installed a plastic box in my living room wall, and yesterday workers from the ISP installed networking equipment in the box. Each apartment will have it's own network, so the equipment is meant to be for my apartment only. However, I will not be buying the media package until I am required to, so I opened the box and unplugged the equipment. The ISP workers and a representative from the apartment management company came back to my apartment because they noticed the equipment was offline, and I told them I unplugged it. The ISP worker asked the apartment rep "Are they allowed to do that?", the rep said "I don't know", and then they left. It's kind of silly/trivial, but that question has been bugging me. Am I allowed to unplug something the apartment complex installs in my apartment? It's not in my lease, and it isn't something like a furnace that is required to keep the building heated in the winter. [link] [comments] |
[KY] Victim of hit & run. Perp ignored court orders to pay for repairs. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:08 AM PDT Last December while waiting to make a left turn, a guy tried to drive around me, but instead slammed hard into my car and continued on his merry way. I got his license plate number and talked to a police officer who found the guy (driving without insurance) and gave me his phone number, hoping that we could work out paying for my car repairs. It will not surprise you that the kind of guy who would hit your car in broad daylight and then drive off is the kind of guy who will say he's reeeaaally close to being able to pay me back for the repair but just need a little more time and also can I sign this document that says how close he is to paying me back so that he can give it to the judge on his court date? Anyway, after months of this, the judge orders him to pay the full amount by June 25th. That date has come and gone with nothing from them, so they set a show cause date for August and filed a motion to revoke his diversion if he fails to pay by then, but I'm getting incredibly impatient just waiting around for yet another court date to go by without him doing jack, and I'm doubtful he'll do anything by August. Can I sue him for any additional damages beyond the repair of the car (punitive or otherwise)? Can I actually press charges against him, or do I have to wait for the judge to revoke his diversion? I really just want to get some kind of justice for this. TL;DR: Uninsured guy hit my car and drove off, then ignored court order to pay for repairs by a specific date. Judge has set another court date, but I want to know what, if anything, I can do to expedite justice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:44 AM PDT I apologize for the lengthy text in the the title; i had no way of shortening it anymore. Here is the whole story abbreviated as best as I can. TO give you some background on our company; there are roughly 800-1300 cars we have in our fleet, similar to ZipCar. We maintain the fleet by cleaning, checking for issues with cars, checking diagnostics, taking to auto body shops and refueling vehicles. My company has a very small fleet of cars that we use to travel to vehicles in order to run maintancence, clean, etc..etc. There is a parking lot roughly 2 blocks south of our work loft, and we had to stop parking our vehicles there. There are anywhere from 4 to 30 homelesss individuals there and we've had many cars broken into. The company decided that no one could park there anymore and that our current parking spots would be north 3 blocks. Well.... today.... one driver parked in the older lot (where we've been told not to park). My coworker and I were ready to grab a car, and the car in the forbidden lot was the only one around. I told her to hang back (because we usually carry roughly 10-20 lbs worth of cleaning agents, towels, vacuums, etc. She stayed back and I rid my board to the lot. No longer than 10 seconds when I reach the lot (public parking lot) i'm attacked by a homeless mans dog. I tried to stretch out my palm before the dog attacks... to try and appease it or let it understand that I mean it no harm.**** Instead, it bites my palm; pushes me to the floor, bites my right thigh (above the knee). I punch the dog a few times and the owner comes out and grabs him by the leash. The owners friend is incredibly rude and claims the ordeal was my fault since his logic was..... because he was black and the dog loved him, that i had to have done something wrong since i'm black.... and the dog attacked me. (Fuck me, right?!) I immediately call the police and the homeless man and his friend are quickly trying to pick up tarp, clothing, wheels, etc...etc.. from the area and drive off. However as they start up the engine, the fire fighters arrive and block them in. The police department show up just 3 minutes afterwards. The authorities get their stories, the fire dept. leaves and Animal Control arrives. The owner explains that they have had the immunizations, but can't find the documentation. After I beg the animal control officer to check the history of the dog; he does, and finds that the dog had no immunizations. Coupled with that there was a record of the dog chasing people (including a collegue of mine; whose also explained that he's willing to tell his store as well); animal control takes the dog away for a 10 day quarantine. Soon after that police explain that I can press charged (Which I intend on doing) and then give us all documentation about the case and go on their way. I go back to my employer and explain that i'd like to go to the emergency room to recieve treatment; she obliges. I ask her who had parked the vehicle there and she said it was most likely one of our employees (EVEN THOUGH.... we've all been told not to park in that area strictly because of the homeless issues that've been occuring. TL;DR My rideshare company explaines we cannot park our fleets in a certain area because homelessness and violence. Months later employee's park a car there. The only car available for me was in the restricted parking lot. I go to get it, and am bitten my a homeless mans dog Do I have any case or grounds to sue my company since it was mandatory that we don't park in the area due to these very issues? Will L&i pay for rabies treatment if I ask for it? [link] [comments] |
[Update] Seller sold me part of his house Posted: 27 Jun 2018 09:36 PM PDT TLDR: Seller really did sell me part of his house! Told neighbor about suspicions, survey confirmed suspicions, we fought back and forth over what to do, then finalized agreement. It all worked out! Update to original post from a couple months ago: talked to the neighbor about my findings with the measuring wheel. He was naturally skeptical, measured and found for himself the same thing. Surveyor was hired next, who confirmed the building encroached over the property line (felt so vindicated). Then lots of arguing for a couple weeks about how to resolve the problem - coming perilously close to beginning litigation - but fortunately culminated in an easement. In the end they paid for: the survey, their lawyer fees, my lawyer fees, money to me for the hassle, and maintenance money annually on the area. It's a win in my books! [link] [comments] |
Lease states landlord pays for electricity, claims it was a mistake. Move in date is this Monday. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:58 AM PDT EDIT: Illinois My friend and I signed a lease on a June 7 and within the lease it stated that the rent shall include: water, electric, snow removal, and. Fast forward to Tuesday when we're finalizing gas and internet with previous tenant, they remind us to do electric as well. We pull up the lease and are confirmed that it states the aforementioned. We notify the apartment manager (apt is in condo and landlord has someone manage the place) and she admits it was her mistake and offers us "$500 to offset the cost of electricity." After deliberation with my roommate we decide that it is a good offer and are ready to accept/amend the lease. To our surprise we get an email yesterday stating that she (the manager) notified us of our responsibility of the electrical on June 2 via text. She has since rescinded her offer of $500 and her last email was one of getting together changing the lease. I responded that it is in poor taste to place burden of a proofreading error on the tenants and also to rescind the offer that was supposed to amend the mistake. What are my options as far as protecting ourselves and upholding the signed lease vs. a text message? The landlord also agreed to let us move in early (a $113 value according to her) but it seems as if the manager is willing to also rescind that offer if we don't amend the lease to their terms. Refused bonus for April 1st 2017 to March 31st 2018 due to leaving company June 15th 2018. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 03:14 AM PDT I work(ed) for a large telco in the United Kingdom up until the 15th June 2018 - at which point I left to pursue a new career with a different company. I worked my full 30 days notice and in my 2 and half year service with this company never put a foot out of place. Today (28/06/18) would be my final paycheck from this company which included -
The above was paid without fault. What was not paid into my account was a company wide bonus which was calculated based on performance both of the company and individual for the previous financial year. The bonus worked out to be essentially 1 months wages. When I noticed that I had not been paid what I was promised I spoke to their HR department who informed me that because I left the company 13 days before payday I was not entitled to receive this. I am struggling to understand how they can possibly do this when the bonus confirmation clearly states that this was a reward for the previous financial year - during which time I was a full time employee. (And worked my arse off). Can anyone offer any advice? Do I have the right to be angry/upset? Am I legally entitled to this bonus? [link] [comments] |
My Neighbor's Dog Killed My Dog Posted: 27 Jun 2018 10:47 PM PDT Let me preface this by saying I live in NV for anyone who needs to know specifics. I'll try to be as brief as possible. In March of last year, my neighbor's dog jumped over the brick wall separating our two houses and killed one of my dogs and injured my other dog in my backyard. The vet bills were substantial as the injured dog needed a leg amputation. We took them to small claims court and won a $7,000 settlement. I'm now having a hard time collecting that money as I can't figure out where she works and can't file a Writ of Garnishment. So my first question is, what's the easiest way to find her workplace? I've checked White Pages and Facebook and her place of work is listed on neither. She also does not have a LinkedIn profile. My second question is, what do I do about the dog? The dog that attacked mine has been declared vicious by Animal Control but is still living in the house. One of the Lieutenants for animal control has told us over the last year to send videos and pictures of the dog when we see it as proof so they can file charges against my neighbor. We've sent separate pictures and videos over a dozen times and they haven't taken the dog yet. Last week the dog also got loose again and attacked my sister and our other dogs and our security cameras caught this. I sent the video to animal control and filed another witness statement, but they still haven't done anything. They never even came to our house to follow up with us; everything was done over email. So what's my best course of action? Tl;dr My neighbor's dog killed one of my dogs and injured the other. We won the small claims case and still haven't received our money. The dog continues to live next door and get loose, while animal control does nothing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:46 AM PDT Hey all. I have a question. I recently got a call from the states attorney where I used to live. My ex roughed me up a few times, and was arrested after one particular bad incident. Long story short, the states attorney told me they didn't need me at any hearings and to not come unless I wanted to. Two days ago I got a voicemail from them saying they are sending me a subpoena for the trial where I am a witness. Maybe just the idea of being summoned to court in this manner is scary, but I feel a little uneasy. Either way, my question is 1. Should I consult a lawyer? 2. I took a job in another state, as the instance of abuse where he was arrested caused me to have to resign from my job (long story short, had a prejudice coworker who got wind of what transpired and called HR saying she didn't feel safe around me - even though I was the one who "lost" ). I only resigned because even though HR took my side, this employee outed me to an entire plant of union workers and the "faggot" and "cock sucker" comments - etc - started occurring. I quit because the company wouldn't punish the employee or move me to somewhere where I wasn't being harassed. The state attorney explained they can't subpoena me now due to not having jurisdiction and would call me back. It's been 48 hours since that call and no word or letter has been sent to me. Do I have anything to worry about? I don't know if I will be able to get off work for this. I also don't have the money to travel 800 miles back home to attend. I want to see this dude get what's coming, but I just honestly don't know what I can do. I also don't want to cause issues for myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! (Washington State) What can I do if my previous landlord keeps delaying my security deposit? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:29 AM PDT Some Background: I moved out of an apartment complex last month (May 25th) which is the move-out day. A few days after I moved out, I went to the leasing office about the security deposit and they told me that they would send the check in the mail to my new address and as well as a list of the deductions to my security deposit. This part was very clear and understandable since they've already inspected the apartment and made reasonable deductions to the security deposit and also told me the amount they owed me. About two weeks later, I received a mail from them but there was no check inside the mail. There was only the list of deductions inside the mail. So I contacted them and they said that they would check with their company's accountants and call me back but I never got a call back. The problem: It has been more than a month and I have received nothing and in the apartment contract, it says that security deposits will be returned no later than 21 days as by the state law. I have called them multiple times and each time getting different answers. Most of the time they say that they can't do anything about it and are waiting for their company's accountants to respond to them and refused to give me the contact information for the people dealing with my check. Sometimes they would say that they have no hand in dealing with this matter and can't do anything about it and know nothing about it. I'm not really sure how to go about this and since I have been waiting for a while, I feel like I should do something about it. I would like to add that I am an international college student, studying in the US, so I'm not really familiar with the laws about this topic. Any advice on this subject would be very appreciated! Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:04 AM PDT Was told to post this here from r/cats About a month ago (May 20thish) I found a cat outside having a meltdown. Clearly not an outdoor cat, as it's been declawed. I took him in and posted posters about him, had details about him at the main office of my complex, and took him to the vet to get microchip information. The former owner of the cat was given as the information for the microchip, and we contacted them. They said they fell on hard times, and had rehomed the cat to someone else who hadn't updated the microchip information. After about a week, we got in touch with the new owner, as they were impossible to get in touch with, and eventually gave us a nasty "We have both of our cats" and hung up. Now, over a month later, the owners we spoke to who said they had both of their cats, are saying they never spoke to me and want their cat back. I've paid for vet visits, food, litter, toys, cat towers, etc. Is there a limit on how long this person has to claim this cat, especially after saying it isn't hers? I feel like I went above and beyond to find his owner and I don't want to let him go now. Any advice is appreciated. EDIT: location is Watertown, NY UPDATE: The original owner who the microchip is still under gave the go-ahead to the vet to change the microchip to my information. They're not happy that these people waited a month to find out where their cat is. [link] [comments] |
Death of a step-parent, with no will, but her parents are alive. In Michigan. Help? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:22 AM PDT My wife lost her father four years ago. Her step-mom (married to her father when my wife was in college) passed away a couple of months ago, after a brief illness. The step-mom had mentioned to several people she wanted to "leave the bank account to her sister and the house to the the girls." The girls are my wife and her sister. The home where their father and their step-mom lived was previously the home to their grandparents on their father's side. Hiccups: The step-mom did not have a will, and her parents are still alive. The step-mom's parents have decided they will not let the girls have the house. They seem to think my wife and sister-in-law treated their late daughter poorly (untrue). My sister-in-law was the step-mom's best friend, taking her to all doctors appointments, chemo and radiation appointments, etc. There's a "other side of the tracks" feel to this as well. My father-in-law and his daughters all went to college. The step-mom's family didn't. I'm not casting aspersions, just trying to paint a picture of the differences in the families. My read is the step-mom's family thinks they won the lottery and they're greedy assholes. My late father-in-law had substantial monies in the bank, all going to the step-mom's sister (she was added to the bank account some time before step-mom passed). I think they want to paint my sister-in-law and wife as somehow unworthy of anything to justify cutting them out of everything. I'm not sure if I'm using the words correctly, but my understanding is the estate was entered into probate in early May. The step-mom's family didn't tell us. We found out through a search in Legal News. So...my wife and her sister are wondering if they should use the probate process to submit a claim (or whatever it's called) or should they try the "emotional" route and try and get the step-mom's parents to change their mind on the house. The house is still full of my late father-in-law's stuff, items from his parents, many family memories that pre-date the step-mom, along with the usual stuff from my father-in-law's marriage to the step-mom. The house has a market value of probably $120K. This isn't a palace. It's a bungalow in southeastern Michigan, in a working-class town. There are also two cars. My wife had her heart set on one of them after her dad died. The step-mom wanted to sell it to her at market value (step-mom didn't need the money) so that sale to us didn't happen. If you made it this far, thanks. Is filing a claim or whatever it's called worth it? Do the girls have any legitimate chance of getting the house? The step-mom told the girls, an aunt and a neighbor about wanting to have the girls get the house, but it was never put to paper. How much can something like this cost? I appreciate any ideas/suggestions. [link] [comments] |

(CA) Pharmacist refuses to fill meds without chart notes from doctor, IC:10 codes on prescriptions Posted: 27 Jun 2018 07:21 PM PDT On mobile, apologies for formatting. I have been using the same pharmacy for years. I have a chronic illness that is incurable, there is not treatment and this is plainly stated under description of the disease. Again, same meds, same doctor, same pharmacy for years, the only exception being that I actually dropped 30mg about 6 months ago. I tried to get my meds filled yesterday, the pharmacist now refuses. I was told by the pharmacy tech that the pharmacist wanted my doctor to call him and verify my dosages. I asked why. Was told that's their mew policy. I say fine, call my doctor and tell him whats going on. He obliges and calls the pharmacist. Pharmacist tells my doctor that the call isnt good enough and wants my records. Doc says no, he wrote the codes on the scripts and this would be a HIPPA violation if he does this. Pharmacist refuses to fill rx. Dr. Calls me. Tells me he cant send records legally but I can hand carry them and deliver at my own discretion. I call pharmacy tell them I will provide notes with my diagnosis if they will fill the prescription. They tell me the records cannot come from me, they HAVE to be faxed by Dr. I have already established that my doc wont do this in the interest of protecting my privacy. The pharmacist has been filling it for years. Why now? What do I do? This can't be right. Staff at both places know me on a first name basis. I have my doc's personal cell number. The issue I have is not knowing what to do. Who is right? Any sources would be appreciated. I have been doing research and cant find any specific info other than articles in pharmacology news etc. Edit: no dosage change in last 6 months. I tapered myself down 6 months ago. Same prescriptions, same dosage and frequency since. [link] [comments] |
Vehicle was being professionally shipped across USA. Driver has disappeared with vehicle. Posted: 27 Jun 2018 08:29 PM PDT We hired a shipping company to drive our vehicle from GA to NV on a car carrier. We were told to pay driver cash. Bank was being fickle yesterday with available funds so driver said to come get car today (Wednesday) morning. We tried calling driver around 9am. Phone has gone straight to voicemail all day. Dispatch company said driver was supposed to pick up several vehicles today as well as finish dropping off 2 vehicles (ours included). Driver has completely vanished. Dispatch company is pretty much telling us too bad. They say they don't know where he is or where he stayed overnight. They said wife doesn't know where driver is either. We made police report and filed claim with insurance. What can I do in this situation? Should I get a lawyer or does insurance follow up? They told us they assigned an adjuster to investigate but I don't feel like they got any valuable information from me when i made the claim. I'm stressing out hard over this. Edit: we are now located in Nevada. [link] [comments] |
11 y/o son wants to live with me. Please help. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 02:45 PM PDT Here are the basics: My wife and I divorced 5 years ago. Her son (my step-son, 16 at the time ) and our daughter, 10 at the time) decided to stay with me. Our youngest/biological son = (age 7) wanted to stay with her so she "wouldn't cry" . I now live in another state. Our youngest son (now 11) is miserable and wants to live with me. He's coming to visit this summer and doesn't want to go back. What do I do? Do I file for custady in the state I live in or the state she lives in? We got divorced in Missouri, I live in Mississippi, she lives in Iowa. I'm soooo fucking lost. [link] [comments] |
I'm an exempt employee but forced to use PTO? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:19 AM PDT Hi all! I'm a salaried, exempt employee and have a few questions since a new department head took over and has made some changes. The company defines a regular full-time employee as working 32 hours or more for benefits, and exempt meeting FLSA. A timesheet presentation indicated exempt employees needed to record 40 hours (five 8 hour days or 4 10 hour days), and time off counted only if gone a full day on our timesheets. It indicated paid holidays are 8 hours, and to adjust our week's schedule as necessary. Well, I just received 2 conflicting emails. One stating that we are being changed to a "flexible 40-hours-as-required schedule." It says we are still exempt and may only claim 40 hours per work-week. They requested we put in our actual work schedule, so if I say Monday I work a 12 hour day and call in sick, I need to take 12 hours sick time. It also said be sure holidays are reflected only at 8 hours even if that conficts with our regular schedule for the day, and PTO would need to be taken -- but policy states no other time can be combined with holiday time -- so in this email they say get an approved schedule adjustment froma supervisor on those weeks. Is that fair or legal? Why could I not just adjust my timesheet week to week to the accomodate me for times I know I'll be sick or want to take PTO? But then I received another email stating because of 4th of July holiday, we need to adjust our schedules to include 8 hours of holiday time. Then during the week of July 16-20, the offices are closing early and we need to adjust our schedule again to 5, 8 hour days. What is the point of me recording "office hours" if there are times I need to adjust the timesheet anyway? Can they force me to take PTO on a holiday, even if policy says no in the handbook? If all my work is completed as an exempt employee, can they force me to sit there to complete "40 hours as required," or take PTO when I leave early? Edit : I live in Texas! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:18 AM PDT Deleted my first post because I forgot the location. We are in Ridgefield Washington. Our area is zoned R1-5, single family residential, average 5 acre lots. Our neighbor is planning on running a year round vegetable, chicken and bee farm and selling her goods from her property. We are concerned this will drive our property value down and increase noise and traffic by our home. I thought zoning laws would protect us but her operation continues to grow. I have reported her to the county but is there anything else I should do? I have researched land use lawyers in the area but have not contacted anyone. Thank you all! Edit: a word [link] [comments] |
