Is my dentist ripping me off? I'm totally clueless.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 08:33 PM PDT

So my wife recently had a couple dental procedures. They performed a deep cleaning & filled 3 cavaties before she had a bridge put in (technically 2 bridges) consisting of 6 crowns in total.

We have Delta of Washington though we live in SoCal. She is also still on her mom's dental insurance.

The dentist originally charged us roughly $2000 for the bridge. Today (a couple months later) she tells us we owe an additional $1000 because the insurance only covered one of the bridges (they were billed separately).

I have 4 benefits explanation sheets from Delta that in total state nothing but $317.20 is owed oop. $1500 is from the other insurance (which is the max for them). A total of $9802 was billed & our plan is a max of $3000 & it still says we have $60 left for the benefits period.

Any way you cut it it doesn't make sense from my perspective. The total billed minus the $4500 in coverage comes out to over $5k remaining but we only paid ~3? Does delta know we had already paid $2k?

I'm so confused & I don't trust our dentist. Please help.

Surprise! My Anesthesiologist is out-of-network and now I'm expected to cover the full cost of services.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 12:11 PM PDT

I had a scheduled out-patient surgery a few months ago and am now starting to receive bills. (Side note: everything else was in-network, I made sure of it). My anesthesiologist EOB hit my account first, stating that they had negotiated a discount with the anesthesiologist dropping my bill from $1,600 to roughly $1,300. This happens sometimes with my insurance company even if service providers are in-network, so I didn't think anything of it. Then I get a bill in the mail from the anesthesiologist provider for $1,600 and call to have it straightened out, thinking it'll take a few minutes and it was just a mistake.

    WRONG.

Apparently, the anesthesiologist is out-of-network and not only will the services not be covered by my insurance, but the provider said they will not be honoring the negotiated discount. I called my insurance company only to be told that they won't do anything and that I should call the provider. Well, I already did that and they told me to call the insurance company. They both keep telling me to call the other and that there is nothing they can do.

    Insurance info:

    • I have Consolidated Health Plans, which is a student insurance provider. They use Cigna's network and have everything sent through Cigna for pricing, but they are the ones who pay the claims. I am NOT a member with Cigna and their policies do not apply to me.
    • My detailed policy states the following for an in-network outpatient anesthetist "80% of Preferred Allowance for Covered Medical Expenses"
    • Since it's out-of-network, paying this bill will not go towards my out-of-pocket maximum (which I am 20% away from reaching), so paying is not really in my favor.
    • Insurance representative and online account/detailed policy do not have any information about a RAP provision or clause, or an in-network exception.

TL;DR: The anesthesiologist assigned to my surgery is not in-network. My insurance company negotiated a discount (this is common for them even if services are in-network), but I still received the full bill of $1,600. Found out that they won't honor the discount and the anesthesiologist is not in-network. Neither the insurance company nor the provider will offer any help and simply tell me to contact the other.

    What are my options?

Confused about the state of my current insurance claim

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 02:35 AM PDT

So iam not completely certain of what is going on but 1 month ago or so my condo had a pipe leakage behind the bathroom drywall and a plumber looked at it, skip 2 weeks or so now after not hearing from anyone, the buildings company issues a damage payment and states that the damage was caused by my room.

So fast forward a few more weeks i had contacted my insurance agent and gotten him the information he asked for but now he's saying he's still missing information and that the building companys insurance agency only has a report and no specific information on the pipe problems. So now iam just confused as to whats going on, are they just taking a long time to do this? are they stalling? what can i do to make this process go smoother and faster? any info would be great

[MA] Was T-Boned this morning. Not at fault but I also have no collision insurance on the car wrecked.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:19 PM PDT

I know I'm not as fault and my own agent has agreed but I will be dealing with commerce insurance for the claim.

My vehicle after it was hit, crashed into a tree and a BMW. The BMW was then pushed into a CHEVY pickup parked in front of it.

The driver was not cited for an illegal behavior and my car was towed to a lot.

The claim process is started, I have a police report and I've already submitted a crash report to the police and the insurance agents.

I received no real injury just some abrasions on my wrist and slight bump to the head. I've received worse injuries weed wacking my property this past weekend..;)

I've never been in an accident before and have little idea of what to expect.

I had two nearly brand new car seats in the car and 180 dollars worth of work done to the vehicle within the last week.

I guess I have no specific questions but I am curious what to expect and what is within my rights to demand from the insurance company as I believe the car is totaled and is in fact no drive-able.

What are my options? Cant afford the insurance i am being offered.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:57 PM PDT

So a little background, I am 19 I got my drivers license in June of 2017, so I haven't had my license a year. I got into an accident in November of 2017 it was my fault. The dude sued the insurance company for bodily damage. So now I am here I need to find an insurance company that can give me a low quote for insurance. I live in Las Vegas. I need full coverage I am planning on buying a vehicle and need to finance it meaning I need full coverage I can't just get liability. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do? For a 2004 Nissan frontier, I was quoted 600 dollars by state farm. A month, a single f@#$@$ month. I can't afford that my car payment will be a 100 to 200 a month plus 600 for insurance plus my rent and everything I cannot afford it. I need to find cheap insurance and full coverage do you guys have any suggestions. I can change cars or whatever I need a car with enough space for my tools. If it helps me lower my rate ill be happy even if I own the vehicle I was quoted 410 for the same Nissan frontier just for liability that is still ridiculous I need help.

    CPCU 540 and financial calculators

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:50 PM PDT

For those that've taken CPCU 540, what are the guidelines for calculators? I have a Texas Instruments BA II Plus from college that I'm really comfortable with and will probably help if I have to do anything with time value of money. Can I use it or do I have to use the calculator the testing site provides?

(Arizona, US) What happens to cash surrender value of life insurance policy if policy holder is deceased?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:14 PM PDT

My mother passed away last month and she had a life insurance policy on my sister (an adult) and my sister's husband was the beneficiary. Now that my mother is gone no one can afford to continue paying the premiums on this policy. We've received a notice from the insurer of non-payment of premiums and that the policy will be cancelled. My question is what will happen to the cash surrender value of the policy now that my mother is deceased.

Bailor - Bailee relationship - allowing someone else to drive your rental car?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 02:21 PM PDT

I'm aware of the following information: When someone allows someone else to drive their vehicle, it is referred to as bailing. The person allowing the vehicle to be driver (bailor) can be held liable for the actions of the person driving (bailee).

However, does this hold true in terms of a rental car? Technically and legally,Am I the bailor and my friend the bailee?

If I rent a car, and let my uninsured friend (not a relative) drive the rental car, in case of an emergency, and unintentionally the friend is involved in an accident - where I am a passenger in the rental, and there is no damage and/or collision to the rental. However, the opposite party is injured because of their negligence in driving, and they end up serving my friend and the rental car company with a botched lawsuit.

Will my personal car insurance cover liability costs (bodily injury and damage costs) for the injured individual, even if I am not the driver?

Am I legally liable to be included in this lawsuit even if I did not drive the rental, and the said accident did not have any collision, but the opposite party had a vehicle damage and bodily injuries?

    All help and info appreciated!

Advice: who is at fault and what to do if the person that hit me won't answer me or her insurance calls

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 06:18 PM PDT

Trying to find out who is a fault. I was parked next to a car in a lot and I was putting my son in his car seat. The driver of the other car was watching me put the kids in the car (she commented on how cute they were). Then she drove away and the trailer she was pulling caught my door and damaged it. I can't close the door. We exchanged info and I called in a claim on her insurance but she won't answer the calls from me or her insurance to give her statement. Not sure what to do here.

[Eastern NC] [Homeowners insurance] claim question..

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 06:08 PM PDT

Hello, My current policy has mechanical breakdown insurance coverage with a $500 deductible. It says ac is covered under that. My ac evaporator coil sprung a leak and has caused some water damage to the ceiling in my bathroom (I'm hoping it will dry but I don't think it will), and the ac repair guy said it would be best to replace my ac versus repairing it. It is unsure when my ac was last replaced. The house was built in 2007, and the previous owners let it go into foreclosure so the only upgrades and repairs I know that we're done on the house, I did, or my neighbors told me about. My neighbors said the previous owners had the ac replaced a couple years after they moved in cause it was going out, but on the unit where it has the serial number it says manufactured in June 2007. So I'm thinking the previous owners just had it repaired and not replaced.

Anyways my ac works, just the pipes freeze over and condensation leaks onto my bathroom ceiling because the evaporator coil is leaking. I don't have the $5000 to shell out for a new AC right now, and they said it's $1400 to replace the coil. I'm working on getting more quotes but do you think it would be worthwhile to claim it on my insurance?

I currently have a claims free discount, which saves me about $112 a year, but if I make that claim and say like for some reason they deny it, I would lose that discount too wouldn't I?

Danger of foregoing flood insurance- Brunswick Co, NC

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:50 AM PDT

I have a beach property that has prohibitively expensive flood insurance- like 3% of the purchase price. The home itself is in very little risk- the living space is elevated about 16 feet and is on a very sturdy foundation/pilings. If there were some catastrophic event that resulted in damage to the living structure I imagine the island itself would be uninhabitable. The last hurricane to hit the area damaged some homes and washed away dunes and destroyed a fishing pier, but my lot remained completely dry.

I'm considering dropping the flood insurance and saving the money in an account to provide for emergencies. I mean, at most I'd be looking at $250K structure and $100K belongings in the unlikely event it was destroyed. I am willing to risk the loss of the structure and having to take out a mortgage to rebuild in the unlikely event that there was a total loss.

    What am I not considering?

    What is FNOL claims ?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 04:51 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I just got an interview for the job of FNOL claims agent, for windscreen and glasses.

And no matter how many times I read the job description I still can't understand exactly what this means. I will handle calls from customers with claims or complaints and basically I have to process them. I will have to be the central link between the client, the insurance, the broker etc.

I have no idea how this all works. The only time I've had to insure something of mine was in an other country where English is not spoken, I'm in the UK currently, Can someone explain how insurance works, what's a broker, and what's a claim?

They said they would provide full training for people who don't have insurance experience but I still want to know what I'm getting into.

    Thanks very much !!

    18 y/o car insurance

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 03:34 PM PDT

Hey folks, I'm thinking about buying a car, but I'd really like to know how much I should expect to pay in car insurance per month.

I'm 18 years old, male, good student (3.8/4 GPA), no previous driving history, and no credit history. I have been accepted into a college and will be a full time student this fall and I'm hoping to get a part time job. I have completed a driver ed course. Also, I live in South Carolina.

I've seen people online say that insurance can range from $75/mo to $500/mo.

    Thanks for any help.

[WI] Uninsured driver - fender bender with dealership car.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:26 AM PDT

Hello Insurance, xposting from legaladvice. Ill keep this short and sweet.

    The event

I had a lapse in auto insurance, and backed into another vehicle this last weekend. Cosmetic damage to my back bumper and their front bumper (dents, scratches, and cracks on bumpers). The other person was driving a Dealership car.

i have a few questions about this. Would the other driver be filing a claim against me as an uninsured driver, or should the dealership (since they own the car)? Personally I would like to just be invoiced by the dealership for damages, but if they file the claim, how would insurance handle charging me (Im probably getting sued arent I?)?

It seems sketchy to me that the dealership is asking the person who was test driving the car to file the claim...

any and all help, advice, speculation, or shit talking is welcome.

    Thanks

[VA] Is Medicaid available for Permanent Resident?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 03:11 PM PDT

Not sure if this is the right sub for this. I am a US citizen living in Virginia. My wife, a permanent resident, is almost three months pregnant with our second child. I could barely afford our first pregnancy/delivery when I was working and had insurance. Her monthly doctors visits were costing me over $200 with insurance. The delivery cost me over five grand. I don't understand how insurance works and at this point it all just seems like a scam anyway. I hear from friends and relatives that their pregnancies/deliveries don't cost them nearly as much if anything at all. I went to a free clinic and they told me that even though my wife is not a citizen, medicaid should cover the pregnancy. I applied and the social worker told me that my wife would most likely be denied for this reason. We are barely meeting our financial obligations now and I'm afraid of the out of pocket cost now that I don't have insurance. Is there something I don't know about medicaid or is there some other form of aid I can apply for?

State Farm terminating my insurance. Need suggestions on looking for new insurance or finding out who to contact about this.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 02:07 PM PDT

So essentially last Christmas I decided to add my gf onto my insurance. Thought we could save some money...So wrong. Apparently my girlfriend's info was mixed up with someone else's. We received very little help from my State Farm Agent on what to do. We were lost and honestly I'd never even heard of the company LexisNexus until I posted on here. Anywho four months later we finally had a resolve. Though it took us another month to even get a letter stating the fact. I sent it to my insurance company as soon as I got it and she said she'd mail it to her underwrite. This was a month ago. They told me back in March that if this wasn't rectified they'd cancel my insurance in June....Well its June and nothing has been done. I called my insurance agent to ask if they'd heard anything. She's like "Nope". Doesn't seem like she cares to look into it even. I reminded her about my insurance cancelation and if I needed to look elsewhere and she was like, yea that's probably a good idea. So here I am out on my ass of insurance. And I have to figure out something in the next two weeks. Any suggestions?

Question about life insurance. Term vs whole for people who have finished their 1st 20 yr term policy (couple in their 40s)

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:48 PM PDT

My husband and I purchased a 20 year term life insurance policy through Primerica back in the mid 90s when I was a stay at home mom and my husband was in the military and we had a new baby. Things have changed since then. My husband and I are both working, our son is soon to be 21 and in college. Our 20 year policy is over and the Primerica representative has rolled us over into a five-year term life insurance policy with monthly payments of $139/mo with the option to change it into a 10 year term that goes to decreasing term to age 100. First problem is we never asked to be put into a five-year term. Second of all because our circumstances have changed and we have investments through our jobs as well as stocks, we aren't interested in using Primerica as our financial advisor which is what I think this guy wants us to do. Apparently Primerica only sells term life insurance and does not sell whole life insurance because "it's a scam". At the time that we purchased the 20 year term back in the 90s my husband and I were not in a financial position to purchase whole life which we probably should have done. However, we can do so now. We are interested in the best type of life insurance for two active people in their 40s (41&47) who have investments and only one child, but will not rely solely on life insurance for purposes of inheritance or financial stability. However, it does sound nice to know that if we spend money on life insurance, and we outlive our policy, we may get some of the money back in the end. What are your thoughts?

Is there such a thing as medical Gap insurance for non-emergency visits

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:48 PM PDT

I have a crappy medical plan with a $5k deductible. I need to go to an ENT for a non-emergency. They need to do some expensive tests like CAT scans which are a few hundred bucks. It sounds like some Gap plans could give me the coverage for the $5k deductible however most of the ones I read about only cover emergency procedures or accidents. Are there Gap plans to help with non-emergencies or is there something all together more appropriate for this kind of coverage rather than Gap?

hit and run on my car

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:15 PM PDT

--Ok so I drive a 2008 Acura Csx. Right now I am at school, so I live off campus down the block in a loft (apartment). I always park my car in the lot where I can see it directly from my window.

Saturday night roughly at 11pm, I hear a loud sound. So loud, it catches my attention and I get up from my bed to check it out. I look out the window, and there is a Flat bed truck (used for towing) that belongs to a large company reversing back and forth beside my car. After about 20 attempts, it finally makes it's way out and leaves the premises. At the time I was thinking...no way my car was hit. The driver probably hit a bump and that is why it made a loud sound. I looked out my window and my car looked fine.

Fast forward to the next morning, I go to my car and see that the entire passenger side front is smashed (headlight and fender). I was working for an insurance company the past year so I know a thing or two about claims. I also know however, that in Ontario, if a hit&run occurs, you will be held liable for the deductible if there is no footage/evidence of someone doing it.

I contacted the police, explained the situation and we went to the location closest to my loft to check out their trucks. No damage was on the rear but I was certain it was this company so I haven't checked the other location yet. They also said their trucks did not receive a call to my location that day but the other location might've.

Fast forward to today and my building guy said he has reviewed the footage and saw nothing. I said "you can't miss it, I saw him reversing in and out at least 20 times". He said he will review again tomorrow and give me an answer by 9am.

If nothing is found tomorrow, I am going to try and let the police allow me to access the footage because I do not trust an older gentleman looking at the footage.

Any advice/tips you guys can give me?

    Employers recouping HSA contributions (FL)

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:06 AM PDT

I recently left a company (voluntary separation, in case it matters) that offered a HSA. They put their match in as a lump sum at the start of the year. My last psycheck came to $0 with a "Miscellaneous Deduction" totaling its entirety. Called them to ask what it was, and was told they were recouping their HSA contribution and that I still owed them another $600. My question is, is that legal?

    Employer covered health insurance

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 11:50 AM PDT

My husband quit his job two months ago. As of right now, we are still covered under the health plan we were paying while he worked there. I found out when I called the insurance company in order to get a notice of termination. In order for me to sign us up for a health plan at my job, I need proof that what we previously had was terminated. Will we be able to continue to use our previous (but current) insurance without having it bite us in the ass in the future? As of right now, it's technically free, versus the few hundred I'll have to pay out when I get covered through my job.
