How are insurers made aware of a speeding ticket? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 08:22 PM PDT This is a question I am curious about. I am a Georgia resident. Today, after arriving at an airport in Ohio I picked up a rental car with Michigan plates, I was pulled over for speeding. As I did not have my insurance card on me, I gave the driver my license and the rental records. Officer did not give me a hard time for not having my insurance card on me. In this scenario, neither the police nor the rental car company have seen my insurance information. I plan on paying the ticket tomorrow via the Ohio cities' court payment system online. Is it likely that the insurance company will never see this incident in their data pulls? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jun 2018 03:07 AM PDT Just how long, in your experience, did it take for you to get the approval for your insurance license when having to go through the background review process? [link] [comments] |
Notes while doing pre-licensing Posted: 08 Jun 2018 02:58 AM PDT I'm doing my property and casualty 40 hour +12 hour code of ethics currently. I was wondering if I should be taking notes or just going thru and doing the quizes and tests. I planned on grabbing a workbook after as well. I'm from California. [link] [comments] |
Curious Question -Why do Credit Card companies offer collision coverage to rental vehicles ? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 12:46 PM PDT I know this coverage can be primary or secondary depending on the type of the credit card like AMEX etc but what's in them to offer this as a courtesy even though ppl will anyhow use credit cards nevertheless ? What am I missing here ? Is this not a loss to the Rental car Industry? [link] [comments] |
Owe more than totaled car is worth-lump sum payment Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:20 PM PDT According to insurance company that I have (State Farm), if ACV of totaled car is less than what is owed on the vehicle, then I would be responsible for the difference as a lump sum payment to them. (No, I don't have GAP insurance. I did at one point in the loan but I don't now. ) Anybody out there with State Farm auto or insurance company with similar policy, how long are you given to pay that lump sum amount? Is it immediately, within 30 days, etc? [link] [comments] |
Anyone else have esurance with towing and labor? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 10:18 PM PDT I had a blow out tonight and was able to safely exit into a gas station. No biggie, I thought. Have everything for one including a 3 ton floor jack and jack stands. To my dismay, I discovered my stock lug wrench was stripping and I couldnt grab 2 of the lugs to loosen. This was my first ever blow out (32M w a squeaky clean driving record and somewhat mechanically inclined.) I called esurance as I have roadside/towing/labor and it took them 20 minutes to find me someone but at an out of pocket cost to the tune of $155. F@#kin kidding me? That much to turn two lugs. To boot, I was only 12 miles outside of a major city in the southeast. I guess what I am getting at that...is this normal? My jeep also sustained damage in the front quarter panel and the door of the front passenger side. Ive never once had to make an insurance claim or do I even have to for this? I have never been in an auto collison either so I'm pretty much lost here. I'll see what tomorrow brings and call roadside again. The tire is still holding air so I managed to make it home carefully and safely from about 10 miles from where this all occured. [link] [comments] |
State Farm won't pay for car damage Posted: 07 Jun 2018 10:05 PM PDT Hi I have insurance with State Farm, while my boyfriend and I were at the beach a car fell off a tow truck, rolled down the hill from a stop light at the top of our street and hit my car. My neighbor told us that she saw it all happen, she was in her front yard at the time. The guy hitched the car back on and drove off. We took my car to a body shop recommended by state farm. The shop called and said we had to pay the $500 deductible and they would repair all damages. We kept calling to check in on the car and finally got an update that they had repaired part of the damages but had stopped because State Farm was opening an investigation. Then we received a notice from state farm that their appraiser had said the damages do not all appear to be from the same accident and they would just be repairing the bumper. I'm not sure what to do, I work from home, barely drive my car right now but had it serviced recently and see it daily so I know there was no damage before this accident. I'm so confused why they won't fix it. Should I be taking pictures of my car daily in case there is damage to prove that it wasn't like that before? I have talked to several reps and a supervisor at state farm but they said this is their final decision and there is nothing else they can do. What are my next steps here? The damages were all from the accident but if I were to bring my own appraiser out the car is currently in the shop halfway fixed. [Florida] Can an insurance company refuse to provide you dates for fees? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 04:11 PM PDT Can an insurance company refuse to provide you with dates and rates when it comes to billing for things such as excess fees and storage fees? In my situation, the insurance company is deducting $250 from my insurance payout for excess storage fees. That's all well and good but I've been trying to figure out what days I'm being charged for and at what rate. My car was at the auto body shop from the 7th to the 24th. It was towed there on the 7th per the appraiser's instruction to get an estimate. On the 11th, I was contacted by the adjuster who advised me that the appraiser should've never told me to get an estimate. On that same day she advised me that the vehicle was deemed a total loss. She informed me of the cost of the appraised damage and the adjusted cash value of the vehicle. Later that day, I emailed her because the cost of the appraised damage was only 55% of the adjusted cash value. I did not receive a response from her until the 15th. There was some back and forth with our responses because after informing her of the 55%, she advised me that the figures I had were incorrect. She stated that the adjusted cash value was $1407 and there was some misunderstanding. I told her to send me the offer in writing before I could make any decision. I received the offer on the 17th and it referenced the $1876, not the $1407. It also referenced an additional $175 payout for loss of use for 7 days. I emailed her the following day to advise her that she could have the car picked up. The car was not picked up until the 24th. I received the total loss docs on the 5th of June via e-mail. So, with the car being at the shop for 17 days, I'm trying to figure out how many days I was billed for and what rate I was billed at. I've asked since receiving the total loss docs that referenced the $250 fee but I'm yet to receive a response from the adjuster or the supervisor. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance that covers contents of the vehicle Posted: 07 Jun 2018 07:19 PM PDT Is there car insurance that covers the contents of the vehicle? My husband and I currently have USAA for car insurance. Unfortunately, my husband has been recently injured and is in a power wheelchair. If we need to get a wheelchair accessible van, we'd like to have comprehensive enough insurance to cover the cost of the wheelchair if we got in an accident. Does this exist? What would this be called? Would this actually be covered under homeowners insurance? [link] [comments] |
Changing Copays after enrollment. Posted: 07 Jun 2018 07:14 PM PDT Can my PBM change the amount of my cost share after I have already enrolled? Long story short, My plan is a 30 percent coinsurance on name brand prescriptions with a max of $125. This is all detailed in writing on the paper the cards came on. Today, the pharmacy is charging $150.00. When I call the company they tell me "that is the price currently". I have always been under the impression that when I choose my plan it stays the same prices for the plan year. [link] [comments] |
Minor car accident.. need your opinion on who is at fault. (Short) Posted: 07 Jun 2018 06:47 PM PDT Some car decided to push into my lane in tight traffic, and they were being an ass about it. We had just got out of a busy intersection and they didn't even indicate nor were they at least far enough ahead for me to allow them to cut in. Anyway, I slammed on my horn and kept driving and they kept pushing in regardless of all that. In the end, they got in front of me but they hit my car. Who's at fault ? [link] [comments] |
Someone totaled my Jeep, what to do? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 05:30 PM PDT Today a guy took a left turn without yielding and ran directly into the side of my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. Both doors are damaged and bent inwards. The body is messed up too. They haven't officially totaled it yet but it doesn't take an expert to know that it's done. He had insurance and admitted to being at fault for the most part, but then started to say I could have prevented it by braking. Police showed up and didn't fill out a report but blamed him. So here's the deal, I paid $4k about a year ago for it. I've done a ton of work myself along with having work done by a mechanic. (new shocks, new control arms, new starter, new alternator, new radio, new blower motor, new thermostat, new water pump, new belt). That probably amounts to about $1.5k. I have receipts for some of it. What can I expect from his insurance? Can I provide the receipts I have? How does it work since I did alot of the work myself? I'm expecting them to low-ball me because usually Jeep's seem to be valued alot lower then what people actually pay for them. Also, the guy has photos of himself on social media with weed and beer in his center console. Anything I should do with that? Guessing not since he already admitted fault, as if he needed to when he failed to yeild. [link] [comments] |
Can I have my own insurance at 21 years old? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 03:32 PM PDT I live in NYS and I will be 21 June 27th. I have a car that needs to be fixed and I arranged that but insurance is still an issue. My mother spoke to her insurance agent about me getting my own insurance. He told her that was not possible because I live at home and my parents already have insurance together. He argued that as long as I live at home with them I have to be bundled with them. My father has a DUI which makes things significantly more expensive. I got an online quote from progressive for $152 a month which is great compared to some of the other prices I've been offered. I am trying to save so I can get an apartment and leave. Is there any truth that I cant have my own insurance if I live at home or is it BS? [link] [comments] |
Minor car accident in a parking lot, who is at fault? Video attached. (USA Idaho) Posted: 07 Jun 2018 09:21 AM PDT Hey guys, My wife got into a slight accident in the parking lot of my work... Well I just so happened I installed a camera for my trailer that also records. Well it caught what happened, any advice on who is at fault? Im emailing with the lady who hit her now trying to get all her info. I just wanted to know if you think I had grounds to hint it might have been her fault? Thanks for all your help. Was not reporting damage to my car the way to go in an accident? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 03:07 PM PDT I rear ended somebody and didn't report the damage to the insurance agency. I obviously filed a claim because I was more concerned about the other cars damage and what I would have to pay. As it seems now though there is signifigant damage to my car that I could fix myself. Should I have reported the damage in case of my car becoming totaled? Would that raise my insursnce? It was just the front headlight and hood that was damaged. Is it possible to go back snd tell them the damage or am I screwed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2018 06:01 AM PDT Yesterday I was rear ended while pulling up to a stop light in my 79' Ford truck. I'm calling my insurance company on my day off tomorrow to file my claim. This is the first accident I've been in and I am wondering if there are any tips and or advice I should know about, more specifically I'm worried about being lowballed on the damages. My 79' Ford is not a rust bucket by any means. It's a show worthy truck. [link] [comments] |
State Farm trying to get over on my girlfriend Posted: 07 Jun 2018 12:40 PM PDT Last week me and my girlfriend were driving in a parking lot where we thought a Kroger store still existed and it wasn't there. So we drive past it turn the corner in the parking lot and this black Lincoln car is just sitting in the middle of the street and my girlfriend decided to drive around him in her correct lane. He reverses his car and puts it in drive and proceeds to hit her drive side back door. We get out and exchange information. He gives us a name and policy number from State Farm and we part ways. She calls State Farm the next day and State Farm says there is no one under that name and policy number. So we go to the police station file a police report and luckily we have the licenses plate number and tags. The lady at the police station entered the information and showed us a picture of the man who supposedly owned the car. He was of course not the man driving the car at the time of the accident. So my girlfriend does her research on social media and finds the guy who was actually driving the car when he hit us. We added that to the police report. Basically the police haven't helped us at all since the start of this. Anyway we call geico which is where my girlfriends insurance is through and they do a tag trace for us. We find out that the name that was originally given to us was the right name of the person who had the insurance on the car just a wrong policy number. So we call State Farm again tell them the correct policy number and they proceed to tell us that they won't be able to fix our car unless this person with the insurance is found. So basically just for clarification the car is owned by one person, insured by another person, and was driven by a 3rd person who caused the actual accident. We've been going around in circles for almost 2 weeks now just trying to get this person to be responsible for the accident they caused and pay for the damages. State Farm calls us today asking more questions about the accident but they were basically trying to make it seem like we made this entire story up. The first thing they said when they called was that the person that insured the car was driving it when this accident happens which is completely false. I'm just wondering is there anything we can do to get this situation resolved?? Or are we being duped I'm located in Toledo, Ohio [link] [comments] |
Question about illicit drug use on life insurance form. Posted: 07 Jun 2018 06:10 AM PDT X-post from r/legaladvice, my friend has follow-up questions. He is in the process of signing up for life insurance and it asks about chronic pain, which he has. In the section about chronic pain, there is a question about whether he has ever abused alcohol or opiates, been prescribed methadone or Suboxone, or used illegal drugs. He has used LSD twice and smoked pot a few times about three years ago. Will answering this question honestly potentially get him denied for the insurance? Would it be better to answer the question in a vague way, such as saying that he has never used illegal drugs to treat chronic pain? Since this insurance is through work, is there any way his employer would find out these answers? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Is it a subscription? Whats the point? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:52 AM PDT If one insurance company takes on a risk and has two other partners on the risk, multiple premiums and next to no losses in a fairly risky field, are they lying about there loss ratio? Or can the insured really be that good? Im on pins and needles ouch [link] [comments] |
Foreign Driver in Rental Car Hit Me Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:37 AM PDT About a month ago I was in an accident with a foreign driver in a rental car (in Texas) on business . The driver had purchased insurance through the rental car company (Hertz). A police officer was at the scene when it happened, the driver was issued a citation on the scene for failing to yield to traffic and was determined at fault. My car was totaled and so was the other one. So I submit a claim with Hertz who passes it on to a 3rd party who handles their liability claims. over a month later and constant pestering (they started screening my calls) I have gotten nowhere. They have the police report and my statement, but before they can determine liability they need a statement from the driver. Well this guy went home and is no longer in the country, I don't even know if the number he gave them is accurate. I found the guy on Linkedin and facebook and messaged him saying "hey can you call or email this guy back?" but no response, and I imagine the insurance company is dragging their heels because they don't want to pay. This can't be an uncommon occurrence, is there nothing the insurance company can do? If someone refuses to cooperate here in the states there is more that I could do, but with someone from another country, I don't know. I'm a little lost at this point because I'm out a car going on a month now and would really like to figure this out and buy a new one. Thanks in advance for all of your knowledge! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:30 AM PDT Basically if I already have my certificate in California to be a workers comp claims adjuster and I want to take the Arizona Property and Casualty licensing exam. Would there be simularities to make the exam easier, is it completely different, etc? The next test date is very soon then after that it's about a month off and I can't wait that long to take it. But, I also don't want to just fail and end up studying for a month anyway (as opposed to craming for two days). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2018 05:09 AM PDT We had heavy winds that damaged many roofs in the area a few days ago. After finding shingles in the yard, we contacted a roofing company who said we sustained minor wind damage, but the hail storm from two months back likely totalled our roof. We've put in a claim with our insurance and have an appointment with an adjuster. Will this count as two separate occurrences? I noticed they listed the date of loss as the day of the wind storm when the hail damage is what affected it the most. Will that be an issue? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:04 AM PDT Hi all, I was involved in a relatively minor accident two days ago and was wondering how to proceed for insurance purposes. This is my first time dealing with a car accident and the insurance system, so I am a bit confused. Two days ago, I was at a stop sign to leave my subdivision behind an electric company van. The van poked its nose out into the roadway to turn, then reversed. I honked the horn at them but they ultimately backed into my car. I exchanged information with the other driver and communicated with the company that they worked for. They requested that I take my car in for an insurance estimate for repairs, at which point I learned that damage was done to the frame of the car making repairs much more costly. Furthermore, while talking to the owner of the company (who is named on the insurance), she made an admission of fault. However, she was not driving the car at the time. My questions are: - Do I file a claim directly through their insurance company or through my own? - I believe that I am not at fault, does this appear to be correct? - What would the general process be for an accident of this nature? Posted: 07 Jun 2018 07:42 AM PDT I was rear ended while driving in stop-and-go traffic a few days ago, after talking with my insurance initially, I am now dealing with the other guy's insurance (Liberty Mutual). My trunk crinkled in a little bit, and I've got a few punctures in my rear bumper. I have a dread that they are just going to patch up the punctures and buff out the dents; if they choose to do that over OEM part replacement (I'd prefer this), is there any argument I can make to force part replacement or get compensation for diminished value? My car is a few years old, but I've maintained it & kept up with all of the necessary work / scratches / etc. If I were to ever decide to trade it in, or sell it, I would assume the car would be valued less if it was patched/buffed.
