    Apple locking out Facebook

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 12:55 PM PDT

Apple has reported they they will start blocking Facebook's web-tracking tools. Last time I check about 25% of cellphones and presumably Facebook users use an iPhone.

With Google being in competition with Facebook and Apple, it doesn't seem that far fetched for Google to do the same with Android. Seems like this could have noticeable effect on the data they can provide ad customers and in return lower the value of their ads overall.

    Thoughts?

    Tesla Shareholder Meeting Notes

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:41 PM PDT

    https://www.tesla.com/shareholdermeeting?redirect=no

    • Model 3 is now the best selling premium medium-size sedan in the US. Screenshot from the live stream: https://i.imgur.com/S3bkx31.png
    • Model 3 SR low volume production by the end of this year.
    • 5,000/week by the end of this month looks very likely.
    • Supercharger V3 will be quite an improvement. Announcement later this year.
    • Tesla's energy sector will grow so much that each year the production will be more than all previous years combined. [Edit: That means production will double each year]
    • Next year Gigafactory will produce more car batteries than the rest of the world combined.
    • Glass-solar-roof durability life testing continues. They are trying to replicate 30 years of wear and tear with accelerated testing.
    • No need to raise money. Positive cash flow in Q3 and Q4.
    • Model Y production in 2020, reveal in March 2019.
    • New Roadster will have SpaceX option package. The car revealed was the base model.
    • JB Straubel: We have the best battery performance at the best price
    • Elon: We might achieve $100/kWh at the cell level later this year depending on commodity prices
    • Elon: In 2 years we think we will reach $100/kWh at the pack level
    • New Gigafactory [battery + cars] will be in Shanghai, China. The announcement will be in next month.
    • Model 3 insurance cost should be 20-30% lower than BMW 3 series. We are working with insurance companies.
    • Volume production of Standard Range Model 3 in Q1 2019. Initial production before the end of this year.
    • Model 3 LR if you order now, you might wait 3-4 months for new US orders
    • Model 3 LR AWD new orders will take 12 months Model 3 RHD will take more than 12 months
    • New Model 3 production line has started production. Elon is confident about 5,000/week by the end of this month
    • Tesla will add body repair sections to some of the service centers. Body repair costs and time will be improved. Same day repairs will be possible for some of the repairs.
    • Autopilot on-ramp to off-ramp could be released in a couple of months
    • Model 3 lease will be offered at the end of this year or early next year. It has a negative effect on finances.
    • We need to achieve 10,000/week next year
    • Starlink device to receive connections is the size of a medium size pizza. Not suitable to put on the roof of a car. They will continue to use cellular connections for Tesla cars.
    • Virtual grid in Puerto Rico could be possible instead of building new power plants.
    • Charge speeds will be improved. 2012 batteries won't be able to use the improved technology. Only battery packs with the new chemistry can use it.
    • Tesla will offer cars with more than 400 miles range down the road.
    • Tesla currently uses leather only on the steering wheel. Model Y [in 2020] won't use any leather.
    • Elon: In 2-3 years we might be able to improve battery volumetric density by 20-30%.
    • AWD invites will go out next week. Production will start this month. Scaling up through July-Aug. High volume in Sep-Oct.
    • Tesla energy storage gross margin target is the same as automotive which is 20-30%. We might reach this by the end of this year or early next year.
    • In the next several months the improvement in Autopilot will be quite dramatic.
    • Model 3 Tier-1 suppliers didn't work out well. Tesla is switching those to internal production. There will be still lots of suppliers but these will be mostly Tier-2 and Tier-3.

    New Vanguard ETF's Look enticing

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 06:40 AM PDT

There are a group of new Vanguard products listed here.

Anyone with any idea of what the returns can be expected. The ETF's looks promising(especially the first one) as they are some value based products that are actively managed but still have the same low low Vanguard Expense ratio.

    Just needed some feedback.

Starbucks investors mourn end of an era as Schultz exits

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:10 AM PDT

Starbucks Corp's shares fell more than 1 percent on Tuesday.
Schultz, who took up the post of executive chairman after he stepped down as Chief Executive in 2017, will be stepping away from the company after nearly four decades of service to mull a "range of options".

Shares of the Seattle based-company lost 1.3 percent in premarket trading on Tuesday, compared to a nearly 2 percent when Schultz's exit was announced after the closing bell on Monday. App or website that lets you build and track multiple portfolios?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 09:27 PM PDT

I'm looking for an app or online site that allows you to build multiple portfolios to help track how much you would have gained had you invested in those stocks. In addition, I also want:

    1) To be able to see my daily, weekly, monthly returns on each portfolio

    2) To see my total returns had I combined all portfolios together

I guess there would need to be some way in which I specify when I would have "bought" a certain stock, so it sounds like I almost want a virtual stock market game account. However, I wish this could be simplified because I don't really care about buying. I wish I could backfill and specify my entry point for each particular stock to see what I would have earned.

Any tools out there like this?

What US-domiciled publicly traded companies paid out a sum to common shareholders after liquidation?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 02:49 AM PDT

I'm quite curious since common shareholders have the lowest claim on company assets. A cursory googling yielded nothing relevant. I'd like to see what sort of financials or scenarios the company had to be able to do this.

Put a limit order in, is there a time that they go through?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 02:45 AM PDT

I put a limit order to buy 4 shares of BOTZ, but I still see the order today. I am a total noob at this, obviously. But I thought if I put in a limit order to purchase shares, at midnight or when the market closed for the day or something, I would automatically buy those shares? It looks like they are not purchased yet...?

    VOO vs SPY

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 10:00 PM PDT

This will be a stock I hold for the next 30-50 years . I've looked into the 2 stocks and seem they are fairly close, one key difference being the .05% and .09% expense ratio. Just curious if over that time frame that .05 or .09 will lead to significant differences.

Still relatively new to investing. Thanks in advance.

Could anyone with intimate knowledge of China offer their thoughts on these companies?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 04:26 PM PDT

I think it would be helpful for a lot of people here if anyone with intimate knowledge of how things are working in China — maybe you live there or have lived there, or you visited, or you specialize in Chinese markets — could offer their thoughts on the state of some of the more popular "meme stock" companies here.

For instance as an American, I've heard good things about alibaba and tencent, but in the end I've never even visited the country and can only rely on reports by other Americans.

Besides these two, what do you think of JD, IQ, Huya, Baidu, weibu, and others? Any dark horse companies that not enough people are talking about?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Convert Roth 401k to Roth IRA

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 11:20 PM PDT

Hello guys, I recently changed my job and my new employer does offer Roth 401k, but doesn't do a match. My new employer only does a match for Traditional 401k. So, i will be selecting Traditional 401k since they match 4%.

But, I have a Roth 401K with previous employer and i have a balance of 11k over the span of 1 yr and 4 months. Since my new employer doesn't offer Roth 401k, i think its best that i convert it to Roth IRA. But, i don't know if i could do that. Please advise.

Also, please suggest if there are better alternatives than converting my current Roth 401k to Roth IRA.

I would really appreciate some advise. Thanks guys!!

    Should I sell $QQQ and buy $BRK.B

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 06:59 PM PDT

Tech stocks look ridiculously overbought while the rest of the market is lagging. I have a large stack of $QQQ that I'm thinking about converting to cash, then going in on $BRK.B which appears to be on a dip recently. I've been watching BRK.B for a while and it's coincidentally my favorite non-tech blue chip so I'd love to hold it again (last sold at ~$200 in Jan).

BIOG.L VS VHT - Need help to compare

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 10:28 PM PDT

    Hi,

Actually I am hoping to learn a bit more on investing, so here goes the question.

I need a bit of help as to learn more about how to compare between these two ETF/CEF

The first is Biotech Growth Ord. It is a CEF based in the Uk with a management fee of about 1.1%. It is a niche player in the Bio tech fund management, and last I checked, no dividend paid out https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/quote/BIOG.L?p=BIOG.L

Compare this with a more vanilla ETF which charges 0.10%, but invest in more vanilla health stocks https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/quote/VHT?p=VHT

and pays out a dividend of about 1.2 % last year

So, I am a big fan of dollar averaging at the lowest cost, and when I compare the stock price between the two, while Biotech Growth Ord seems to have larger swings, the VHT is consistent.

Am I missing anything? Most prob I will be switching to the vanguard ETF..

Digital vs Physical | CVS vs. Walgreens

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 02:42 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm interested in using any resources to pull up data on CVS and Walgreens real estate presence and digital web traffic statistics. I know of some web services like Alexa that track visitors but any other recommended, free resources would be great to use.

Otherwise, please share your thoughts too! I'm interested in how 'corner drug stores' will be transitioning with a shift to ecommerce/omnichannel. I want to figure which of the two is better set up to serve customers through their marketplaces and channels as I believe that will influence which consumers will shop solely on convenience ignoring other possible features such as products, healthcare services, etc.

Might as well throw fedex/ups in there as well. The only resources i am finding online are from past fuel hedges.

Or perhaps this information is not public?
