Posted: 07 May 2018 01:05 PM PDT Long story short I came home to a soaking wet carpet and flooded bathroom Saturday night after work. My downstairs neighbor was gone too, or she would have noticed the waterfall coming from her ceiling. That night a company came in to place a bunch of industrial fans and a huge dehumidifier. A bunch of my music equipment got wet, including speakers, some guitar cases, amps, a nice keyboard. A large portion of my Magic card collection was damaged, including a lot of cards with sentimental value. I'm still assessing the damage and haven't even tries the speakers and keyboard yet because I have been so overwhelmed. And just today I found out they are going to have to replace the carpet, vinyl floors, and a bunch of cabinets, all the while these incredibly loud fans are running. So between staying at a hotel, the cost of water wasted from the broken toilet and electricity used for the fans, and all my damaged stuff, what do I do? I have renter's insurance (here in Iowa) with a $500 deductable, but I'm not sure if I am supposed to file a claim or let the property insurance take care of it. I live in a complex owned by a company, and the property manager has been very nice and helpful so far. They already replaced the toilet. However, a little twist in the matter is that I Googled the company that made the toilet and found a bunch of articles about the exact same thing happening, and the article even specified my exact model amd exact YEAR. There was even a class-action lawsuit filed in 2016. I've been in and out of medical treatments for the past month for some trauma incurred and just had surgery two days before this all happened. I am at the end of my rope here and would appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 May 2018 04:51 PM PDT Located in Northern Virginia—DC Metro Area. My question is if I add my son to my car insurance policy and he gets in an accident, that would jack up my entire family policy premiums. If I were to remove him in such an event from the plan, would my premium go back down to what it was before? And in this case he would be responsible for his own plan as a result of his actions. But I just want to make sure I wasn't able to find information about this anywhere. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 May 2018 08:05 PM PDT I have friends visiting from the UK this week who will be borrowing my car without me present for a few days. From what I have read, Wisconsin does not allow exclusions from coverage. But when I called Progressive, they said I should get the names, DOB, and Married/single status from the visiting drivers. Progressive will add them to my policy along with a surcharge because they are not able to verify the driving record of a UK driver. Is any of this necessary in Wisconsin? Or could I just raise my limits to cover medical damages which may be more costly for a foreigner and not add them at all? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 May 2018 12:10 PM PDT Hi Everyone. I'm looking to take my Life & Health test in the next couple of weeks. Anyone in here have a recommendation for a class or online study they've used, obviously in Arizona? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 May 2018 01:46 PM PDT I have Farmers homeowners insurance. When I got it, I was quoted $1600 and signed a contract and paid for the full year. I just received a letter in the mail that states under "Fire policy" that they removed auto/home discount (never had auto with them at all) and removed roof age verification discount and now say I owe $818.78 more. When I called my agent he said they gentleman doesn't work for him anymore and then I told him my roof was 2009 and he said the gentleman put 2012 and that changes the charge from 818 to around 650. I'm really confused on how they could do this. Now I'm stuck with them and being charged $2400 for a 1960s house. I'm being told I'm being overcharged. Edit: I signed in Feb and just received this letter. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 May 2018 07:43 AM PDT I've normally assumed that I should always go HSA if given the option, but my new companys options are giving me pause. There's their normal HMO plan that has a $1,500 deductible with no monthly payments to be on the plan (health, dental, vision). This year, they also offer an HSA with a $1,500 in-network deductible, $3,000 out. You pay a monthly premium of $70 and they contribute $360 annually to the HSA. Seems like I should just contribute to the HSA I had with my old company, right? Or is it still worth paying the monthly premium to get out of network access and pre-tax contributions? I'm a healthy 27 year old with no looming or current medical expenses. [link] [comments] |
[Iowa] Homeowner’s Insurance Roof Question Posted: 07 May 2018 11:19 AM PDT First time posting here so sorry for the lengthy post; so last year a hail storm passed through where we live and most of our neighbors had signs in their yard due to having different roofing companies come and fix it under their insurance companies. A few months later we had someone do a free inspection and they mentioned about the hail damage on our house. We opened a claim with our insurance and they sent an adjuster to take a look at the damage and marked up where damage was found. He said that we could contact a roofing company or that the insurance company could pick one to carry out an inspection and then they would both do a joint inspection to figure out the damage and how much it would cost. We contacted a roofing company and the insurance adjuster came and they both came to an agreement on the damage to the house being $2,400 but our deductible is $2,500 so there was no reason to file it with the insurance. We then got a letter in the mail saying that there was too much wear and tear on our roof and that we would need to fix it or sign a roof exclusion agreement stating that we agreed our roof coverage would not be covered from wind or hail damage until it is replaced. We've had this insurance for many years and they've never mentioned anything about the roof being too old or having too much wear and tear damage until after we filed the hail damage claim. We waited until after winter to contact another roofing company and they found hail damage on both the siding and roof and told us there's clearly over $2,500 of damage and that there's no reason for the insurance company to not cover the roof for hail damage since the policy covered that damage. We still have not signed the roof exclusion agreement but it is due at the end of May. -So do we turn in the roof exclusion agreement to avoid having our policy dropped? Thanks in advance! Other drivers insurance company not getting back to me. Posted: 07 May 2018 10:45 AM PDT About two weeks ago tomorrow I was involved in a collision at an intersection. I was waiting at a left turn signal in an east bound lane, when I was given the solid green left arrow I started to execute my turn onto the cross street heading south bound. As I was turning through the intersection a car in the west bound lane ran its red light and because of this I crashed into it. My driver side air bag deployed and my car was dead in the middle of the west bound lanes of the intersection. The other car stopped in the west bound lane of the street. If I had to guess how far down the street I would say at least a hundred yards. The other cars side air bag deployed (according to the crash report) and her driver side front tire was torn off of the axial and landed in the grassy median. My cars front end is smashed in, like crunched down to 3/4 to half its original length. Because the engine compartment is so damaged I don't have very high hopes that my car can be fixed, it's probably a total. No one was taken to the hospital. I personally only had a bruise caused by the seat belt and and a Nissan logo stamped into my left hand from when the air bag deployed. When asked if she was okay and if she needed any help getting a ride somewhere by my mother, who arrived as the tow trucks where pulling our cars to a nearby parking lot, the other driver said she was fine and had someone coming to pick her up. According to the TXDOT crash ID that I received about my collision, the other driver received a citation for running a red light signal. The day of the crash I went home and filed a claim with my insurance (Geico) as well as with Liberty Mutual, the other drivers insurance. At the time I didn't have a crash report, just a slip of paper that the Texas DPS officer gave to me on the crash site that contained the other driver and my information. I got the crash report several days later. My car has liability insurance only, because my car is paid off. According to the crash report, the other driver had proof of liability insurance on the scene. After I got the crash report I had my car moved from the tow yard to a collision center, and I called my insurance and updated my claim with them about where my car was moved to and my crash report. I tried to do that with Liberty Mutual as well. I wasn't able to get the insurance agent in charge of my claim on the phone so I left a voice mail and sent him/her an email with the info as well. It's been two weeks since the crash, and about a week and a half since I received the crash report. I've only been able to confirm that they know where my car is by the claim tracking feature on Liberty Mutuals website. I haven't been able to confirm that Liberty Mutual is getting the updates on the crash report that I've been trying to give them. I've left several voice mails with them, as well as several emails containing the updates I am trying to give them and asking for them to confirm that they are getting them. The insurance agent in charge of my claim with them has not called me back or replied to me emails. Their voice mail is now full and won't let me leave one, but I am still sending emails. I've also tried to lodge a complaint with Liberty Mutual about not being replied to. The person I talked to said the she would put an urgent note on my claim about how I was trying to update them with my crash report ID number and the reference number for the citation issued on the crash report, and that I wanted confirmation that they are receiving it. I also called my insurance and told the person in charge of my claim there. She said that she would try to contact Liberty Mutual about my updates as well and do it every day until she or I get confirmation that they have the update about the crash report. Is all this trouble getting in touch with the other drivers insurance about the claim that I filed with them normal? The agent in charge of my claim with my own insurance company told me that she doesn't think it is. [link] [comments] |
Uninsured Motorist Coverage- No room for Pain and suffering payout? Posted: 07 May 2018 06:37 AM PDT Husband was involved in a hit and run. The insurance is counting this as Uninsured motorist so our policy limits $25k for bodily injury and $20k for property damage. Husband's hospital bills are about $28k. I understand that the insurance is only legally liable for the policy limit, so does that mean he won't get a pain and suffering payout since we maxed out on the medical bills or could pain and suffering settlement come out of the property damage amount since the damage to his bike was $1,500 and the maximum limit is 20k? Which of these two plans will be better for orthodontics? Posted: 07 May 2018 08:01 AM PDT I have to choose between two dental plans. I want to get braces. The first plan states, "you pay $1500 for a full phase of comprehensive orthodontia treatment." The second plan states, "plan pays 50% after deductible up to orthodontia lifetime maximum of $2000 per person (dependent children under age 19)." My deductible is $100, and I've already met it for this year. Just wondering if anyone who has paid for orthodontics before could share some experience in helping choose between these two plans. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
