Thinking about reaching out to a local trade school in order to hire semi experienced help Posted: 03 May 2018 07:47 PM PDT Do you guys think that would be a good idea? I run a lawncare and landscaping business and there is a trade school near me with hundreds of kids all looking for work. How would I go about asking the school if they could let their students know that we're hiring for summer help? [link] [comments] |
Memorandum & Articles of Association Posted: 04 May 2018 02:25 AM PDT When these are created, does the company name Need to be in them? I ask, as I've never created a company, & am confused as to whether its a valid constitution for another company when its name isn't present within it. [link] [comments] |

Requesting advice for a new online shop. Posted: 03 May 2018 08:48 AM PDT Hey ya'll! I was bored today so I finally did it! I created a little online shop! What I did was sign up for the free trial on Shopify. After that, I determined what product I was going to sell from Oberlo and "customized" my storefront with some items (I went with "Geeky" apparel). I chose Oberlo and Shopify because they are extremely compatible and setting up drop shipping with them was extremely easy. I also spent $16 for my own web URL and linked everything together. I know my next moves needs to be classing up my storefront and advertising, but I'm not quite certain how to do either of those. tl;dr For those of you who have done drop shipping stores before, any advice on how to advance from a website with a few products loaded? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Has anyone used a crowdfunding equity platform, like wefunder or startengine? Are they worth it? Posted: 03 May 2018 09:23 AM PDT My team and I are on the cusp of opening a new place, and we've got all the planning worked out- the next step is raising funds. We think we have a strong concept that could be of interest to investors, but we have no clue how to even talk to people who would be interested. We came across some crowdfunding-like equity raising sites, like wefunder and startengine, but we've never heard of anything like it. Is it a scam? or is it basically like kickstarter? Anyone have any insight on it? [link] [comments] |
Would an animated video log (vlog) as a service for businesses have merit? Posted: 03 May 2018 08:40 PM PDT We specialize in animated videos. Would short animated vlogs provide value for companies' marketing strategy? If so how much would you pay for it? Any feedback is welcome. How should I narrow down my target audience for my photography business? Posted: 03 May 2018 05:16 AM PDT Hi everyone! I'm finally beginning to market myself as a photographer after just trundling along via word-of-mouth. I have done wedding photography, family photography, newborn photography, event photography, corporate portraits and product photography for many years and still do all of it whenever people call me and say they need this done. I feel like I have to specialize (especially for Instagram) because I'm reading this book called Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch and it says I should really make sure understand my target audience and everything I put online about my company should be targeted towards my target audience. This makes sense, but I feel like i can't choose, I LOVE kids and also love weddings and brides and the excitement of a wedding. It's also actually been my dream to shoot beautiful, timeless portraits of women like Sue Bryce does ("I want to take the best photograph you've ever seen of yourself"). That's actually what I started out doing in terms of personal projects. But I need to pick one and focus on it, right? What if I just marketed myself as a portrait photographer and ran several different Facebook campaigns/promoted posts tailored towards each target market e.g. women looking to get portraits of themselves, mums looking to get family portraits and brides looking for photographers? And the landing page will feature a selection of beautiful portraits. I'm taking out all of the corporate and events and product work and maybe putting it on another site (in case someone calls and wants to see the work because they have a corporate job). I would love to know what you guys think! Currently, my income comes from all kinds of photography and it's fun but yeah, I feel like I have to specialize in some way. Edit: Dear Small Business Owners of Reddit, I am so incredibly grateful that you guys gave me such fantastic and detailed advice. Thank you thank you thank you. I need to think hard about all of this, while framing it in the advice you gave. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 11:20 AM PDT Looking to add hand dipped ice cream to my shop. Anyone have any experience/insight into the ice cream business? What is the average "scoop" size and how many do you get out of a 3 gallon bucket? Really starting from scratch here, not even sure how to price it at this point until I figure out even the most basic thing as a "scoop"! Also, are their alternatives that you have used to having a constantly flowing water source for the dippers? I'm looking for alternatives because I would have to get a water line ran to the front of the shop. Any input is appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2018 11:36 AM PDT Hey everyone! I run a small clothing business for the past 3 years through shopify. I'm trying to figure out how to narrow down my audience more specifically for my ad campaigns. How do I do this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 05:03 PM PDT My idea was that we (my friend & I) would get some high school students so that they could teach other high school students standard math (algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, and pre-calc). Our plan was to pay the tutors $9/hr. In our state, $9 is slightly above minimum wage. Instead of one on one tutoring, these are going to be classes. Like full on classes. We are going to have one class (two hours) per week. Since we follow the school curriculum and calendar, we need to teach all chapters at a rate of two weeks (or classes) per chapter. The first class is going to be instruction, while the second class is review and a test. In terms of a class, how much would parents pay for classes? [link] [comments] |
Can someone help me decide what type of entity my small business should be. Posted: 03 May 2018 04:47 PM PDT To make a long story short, my wife and I have been running a cleaning service as a side hustle for a while now. I would like to get licensed and insured for obvious reasons and in order to do so, I'll need a business license. From the rudimentary research I've done, it seems like a General Partnership DBA would be the best fit for a business of our size and scope. Would anyone like to give me theirs two cents? Thanks! Posted: 03 May 2018 05:52 AM PDT Hello Smallbusiness. I am not a large enterprise and I am no longer considered a startup (over 1 year). I still have a day job. I also own an urban agriculture/bioremediation small business. It's a mushroom farm, we are using locally produced waste and turning it into the ultimate upcycling. We(I) talk to several universities, and have the attention of several investors. Some are even on reddit. (If you are reading this HI). I'm really passionate about it, and I have a good margin. I have even created a whole turn key operation that I can easily support remote farms and sites, with 90% grown produce. It's a farming as a service model. Its really awesome, if I am not tooting my own horn too much. A win-win, it solves my sales problem by using farmers that already are selling and uses my skillset to grow a ton of high quality produce on a weekly basis at a much greater range to get around the short shelf life. I got the attention of people. Now I'm stuck, I don't have the funding to make these units or set up the infrastructure to support it. I have two very big issues that are holding me back. Both problems have the same answer. TL;DR. How do I get a partner? Issue 1. My town doesn't really know much about mushrooms. I did so-so at the farmers markets, mostly I just ended up explaining what the heck these things are and what I do. Restaurants are hit and miss. When it comes time, I feel most want to just order from one distributor and not set up individual deals with local farms. Locally owned groceries can only take so much each week. I easily flood the local market. Getting to the next town is a big issue, let alone getting to the large cities near by. I can work with smaller distributors, but I still need to set up sales myself. Closing the sale and then getting the truck ready for produce that only lasts 1-2 weeks has been impossible. So I spend my time working on the business. Streamlining, writing the business plan, training people. I have patents now on new technology. We are really good at producing a lot of quality produce, that I throw in the trash. I also have access to a commercial kitchen, but my plan doesn't really involve added value products, it's just another business scope creep. Really trying to narrow my focus down. I'll be throwing out 20 more pounds of beautiful yellow oyster mushrooms this afternoon. Issue 2. Its just me at the head. The help I get are from grad students and others just starting out. Now I am in this catch 22. They do not have money to put skin in the game. My investors want to see more than just one person invested in this project. If I focus my time on making sales, it really takes away from the day-to day process. I don't have the money to hire someone, as everything has been going back into the business to purchase bigger and better equipment, and marketing materials. Even if I made a huge sale today, it would still be a month before I had the produce to sell, to pay someone. I say all this, because I am putting together a plan for some grants and loans. The plan is business plan is rock solid and has a very good chance of being something great. The only big issue is that I need the loans and grants for labor and not much capital expenses. Again, my plan has a lot of people listed as involved and consultants, with just 1 guy (me) at the top. [link] [comments] |
Question about filing out tax info section for new hire in ADP with employees W-4? California Posted: 03 May 2018 04:22 PM PDT So the federal tax is easy, it just says put whatever they put for line 5. For when I go to state tax for California, it asks for allowances and dependent allowances. How do I count those, especially since this employee is only claiming 3 alownaces, despite line H totaling 5. [link] [comments] |
starting an urban homestead business - how should I register and how can I estimate taxes? Posted: 03 May 2018 08:04 AM PDT I'm hoping to start a small business selling vegetables, herbs, flowers and berries from my home garden, in addition to quail eggs from my backyard flock, and baked goods such as zucchini bread and pumpkin muffins. My goal would be to have 5 to 10 neighbors sign up to receive a weekly produce box during June-October, with a quail egg add-on option, while offering baked goods for sale to these customers when available. I am looking into the licensing required to legally sell these items, and from what I can tell (here in Michigan) I would not need any specific licensing in my situation. I am also looking into purchasing a Food Liability Insurance policy, which I have estimated at $300/year based on my research. Beyond that, I'm assuming I would need to register as a Sole Proprietorship - is that correct? Is there something else I should register as to save on taxes? Speaking of taxes, I'm trying to estimate what I would be required to pay, to help me set a reasonable price to cover this cost at tax time. I believe I would have to pay a Self Employment tax of approx. 15%, but beyond that what would I have to pay? Are there any tax benefits for farmers that I might qualify for? Any other considerations? Finally, I believe I would need to charge sales tax as well. 6% in my state. I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post these questions, I've never been good at Reddit despite years of lurking here! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What to call our small business' volunteer day? Posted: 03 May 2018 02:53 PM PDT I worked for a previous firm that called theirs "Impact Day". Which is damn good IMO. We can't seem to think of a catchy title for ours. Suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 08:20 AM PDT What should you know when hiring HVAC technicians? I'm putting together a story about good ideas when hiring new techs, and I'm interested in hearing from managers of HVAC companies, or anyone who's done hiring in HVAC companies. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 08:18 AM PDT Hello, here's the short quick version of it; -my family operates a 3 retail stores atm(no POS at all) -wants to implement POS with having expansion in mind -wants to create online store as well here's the wall-of-text version of it if you like to know more specifics. We want to put POS that is easily scalable; If the business keeps on doing great we want to continue expanding locations and if we can have 5 retail stores going great we want to create warehouse so that we can purchase items in pallets directly from manufacturer's/China to cut the cost and operate online store as well. So the POS we're looking for needs to be able to handle online store as well We also want to be able to use the information we get from the POS to create something like how many x/y/z/total items are selling daily/weekly/monthly etc... so that we know which items are worth selling and which one we should be dumping it to make space for new item. we also want something that can give us info on how many of x/y/z/total items are getting stolen, create a list of items that need to be ordered based on brands and etc on top of things I didn't even think about and all that based on each store/online store/every store combined maybe we just need to talk to someone who's job is to look at our situation and recommend us on what to do with it, but what would be their job title to google it? any recommendation/help would be appreciated thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted here about a month ago, a little further along now. I'd love some feedback please! Posted: 03 May 2018 02:03 PM PDT Hey everybody! I posted here about a month ago asking for some help getting my coaching business started. I took a lot of the advice I got and I'm a bit further a long now, but I'd love some feedback to know if there's anything else I should be doing! As of now, I have liability insurance, a business license, and a home occupation permit. I believe legally I'm set. I also created a website and an instagram which I would love some feedback on. I'm in what I'd call a marketing phase right now. Had my website and Instagram up for about a week. Thanks for all the help from last time, I'm really loving this sub [link] [comments] |
