What will be your picks for a stock to hold for more than 10 years?

Can you also elaborate the reason? Thanks

Walmart...You were supposed to be my backbone baby.

It's at a lower point than it was in OCTOBER last year. I thought the flipkart deal would be a good thing considering both facebook and amazon were trying to get it as well. Is this all an over-reaction?

    The future of Square (SQ)

    Posted: 09 May 2018 12:48 PM PDT

Square inc has made some very important acquisitions over the last few years (14 in total) - the most beneficial and profitable for them I think has been Caviar. More recently, Square acquired Weebly and Zesty to really offer the "complete" package to various businesses. Their rollout of new products and services to Small Businesses and restaurants paired with Square Capital only further emphasizes that no other competitor can compete on this level.

That said, I think this company is still very undervalued in terms of long term growth and outlook.

How do you feel about this company?

    Is AMD bouncing back?

    Posted: 09 May 2018 09:02 AM PDT

The last 2 months have been particularly bad for the stock. I see an upward trend, is it bouncing back? What are people's thoughts? What is an ideal sell price for AMD in 2018? (I got in at $11)

    HMNY Stock Advice

    Posted: 09 May 2018 11:56 AM PDT

So, I really messed up... I found out about Moviepass and parent holder Helios and Matheson Analytics, last year from a small and unpopular thread on Yahoo. It immediately caught my attention so I wanted to read more about this new disruptor of a stagnant industry. I read about the successes and impact Ted Farnsworth and Mitch Lowe had previously had done with the entertainment industry (Redbox and Netflix), so I decided to put a few hundred into E*Trade and went for my first trading experience! Within days, I saw $250 become $750 and figured, I'd done pretty well for myself, to sell and move forward.

Day after day I monitored the stock and saw as it continuously rose to the point where $16 seemed unreal! I decided to drop a few thousand (and by a few I mean a lot). Now, I am in a hell of a predicament made by bad decisions and my desire to take a leap of faith. Unfortunately, I have minimal knowledge of stocks, terms, SEC, etc which is what brings me here to Reddit as a first time user.

I have a few hundred shares purchased at a very high price with HMNY which if I would have purchased at today's value would be several over 10,000 shares. What happens if the business model is too unstable and it hits $0.00? Will I owe them money for the shares I own now? Do I sell and get back less than 5% of what I put in for the stock and take a major loss? Any and all advice is sincerely appreciated.

Made $24k on a stock today, should I dump some of my losers to help offset the taxes?

    Posted: 09 May 2018 11:50 AM PDT

Finally sold my axxa shares for ~24,000 today. Coulda had 40 but they jumped my limit sell and I had to fumble to put in a market sell and by then it had dropped 50% That being said I've been holding onto some loser stocks that are down ~5800 do you think I should finally just dump them to help offset my gains? Todays capital gain will bring me up to 57,000 on the year.

Achaogen (AKAO) is a great up-and-coming stock. PDUFA date in about 1 month

    Posted: 09 May 2018 08:23 AM PDT

Long time lurker, long time biotech investor. Thought I might as well share the research behind my investments. Here is the first one, if people like it I can do a write up on my other investments:

Achaogen's stock has been unfairly punished following the recommendations offered by the FDA advisory committee. If anything, investors should be assured about the almost guaranteed FDA approval of Plazomicin for complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI).

10% –That's the estimated percent of women with a urinary tract infection in any given year. More conservatively, the number of cases per year is estimated at 150 million, putting it ahead of world-wide cancer cases by a factor of 10 (~14 million), and on par with the flu. Often these are simple to treat, but in the case where the infection involves the upper urinary tract, is recurrent, occurs in men, or in a patient with diabetes or who is otherwise immuno-compromised, the infection becomes a complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI). This is the pool of patients that Achaogen is seeking to treat with its soon-to-be-approved candidate, Plazomicin.

Pathology aside, the cUTI market is too widespread for an accurate assessment of the number of patients. The number of generics already in the market, such as meropenem, also makes an estimate for peak sales difficult. Perhaps the best comparable is the acquisition of The Medicine Company's cUTI portfolio by Melinta Therapeutics for $270 million in upfront payments and up to 25% in royalties on world-wide sales. An analyst has predicted peak sales for Vabomere, a cUTI treatment from The MedCo's basket, at $350 million in 2027. This brings forth two important considerations: Vabomere is a combination of meropenem and another drug that prevent bacteria from degrading meropenem. The second consideration is that Plazomicin was tested against meropenem and demonstrated clear superiority. Thus it is likely that this therapy will take a backseat to Plazomicin.

Two phase 3 trials were performed to evaluate the efficacy of Achaogen's Plazomicin compared to the current gold-standard treatment. The Phase 3 EPIC trial conformed to the FDA's guidelines on developing drugs for cUTI, and demonstrated statistical superiority to meropenem. The minimum requirement for a drug approval in this space is proof of non-inferiority. Hence the determination of superiority guarantees FDA approval of Plazomicin, despite a slight uptick in the number of treatment related adverse events.

The second Achaogen trial, CARE, was conducted to evaluate plazomicin for bloodstream infections using a non-conventional trial format. This trial also demonstrated improved survival, but the low sample size led to an 11-4 recommendation against plazomicin for BSI. Fortunately for value investors, the loss of the BSI indication is not worth the 28% drop seen in the stock following the AdCom results.

Furthermore, a rejection of Plazomicin for BSI treatment is not assured, the AdCom provides only voluntary guidance. The bloodstream approval would be evaluated under a novel FDA program, and the beneficial safety profile of Plazomicin gives the FDA an incentive to approve Plazomicin, if not for any other reason than the fact that few options exist for treating patients with carbapenem-resistant bloodstream infections. Of course, one potential outcome is that the FDA asks for additional data post-approval, draining Achaogen of important financial resources.

Finally, what do the financials at Achaogen look like? The market cap of $500 million doesn't make AKAO a screaming buy. With only a single approval for Plazomicin, it will have to perform extremely well post-launch, likely requiring a resource-intensive marketing campaign. While there are other candidates in the Acahogen pipeline, these are exceptionally far from approval. Negatives aside, with an almost guaranteed approval of Plazomicin by June 25, investors can expect an almost certain bump in the stock price. Perhaps even a doubling in the next 6 months. With cash equivalents of $144 million and an available credit facility, dilution shouldn't happen for the remainder of 2018.

Short-term, AKAO looks like a great investment, if for nothing then to capitalize on the hype from an FDA approval for cUTI, and perhaps a bonus approval for BSI. Long-term, the potential looks much less certain, but with considerable upside possible.

As always, investors should perform their own research and risk assessment before purchasing stocks, and I don't assume any responsibility for losses incurred.

Disclosure: I am long AKAO since 5/4/18 Also, the autobot didn't like my links to sources. So those aren't included.

ScottyStellar's Inside Track- Week 9 update. The market climbs, and we didn't.

    Posted: 09 May 2018 01:32 PM PDT

A rough week for the Inside Track portfolio!

    See the results here!

    Weekly Changes:

    Bought:

CVS at $61.97 on 5/7. Some big insider buys and looks like it's hit a possible double bottom at the $61ish mark.

    Sold:

ACRE at $13.41 same day, for a $5.59% profit.

    Weekly Stats:

Over the last week, our portfolio lost $41.85 or 1.56% while the VTI actually turned a corner, and gained $58.96 or 2.45%

This gives us a weekly Loss against benchmark of $100.81 or about 4% of the original portfolio. Ouch!

Earning seasons can be rough, and I am hoping we get some turnaround.

Note also that the portfolio gains does not include dividends, so perhaps in another week's post I will show an aggregate of the dividends I've earned and see how that sways the results!

    Total Stats

Since inception, we have gained $134.23 while the VTI has lost $37.54.

This leave us up 5.37% against a 1.5% loss of the benchmark, or a total Gain against benchmark of 6.87% or 171.77

Happy earnings season and may the market keep its greenward trend of the past week!

Is it possible to get an alert when a company files through the SEC? Stock - $MDXG

I've been watching TTOO for a long time.

    Posted: 09 May 2018 11:35 AM PDT

After researching the company I became interested in them but I'm not good at analyzing stocks in this particular sector. I was hoping to have some discussion and get some opinions.

They have a product that can detect sepsis much faster than what's currently available. Early detection is key for treatment. Treatment is also extremely expensive so early detection really cuts costs and can save lives.

Yesterday the stock finally jumped on earnings. Can anyone shed some light on if they see potential here.

At what percentage loss do you give up?

    Posted: 09 May 2018 07:44 AM PDT

At what percentage loss do you consider eating the loss and moving on? I've got one stock down 25% and have been asking myself when to bail. I had these thoughts at 18%...20%...now 25%. My gut tells me to reassess if I believe in this company. If I believe I hold, if not, sell and move on.However, I made the same mistake with Twitter. Bought it at $30 something, it dropped to $18ish not too long after, sat on it for 2016 and 2017 waiting for the rebound, gave up on this POS, sold it, and for some reason that defies reason its back up to $30+ a few weeks later. It's not that its numbers changed enough to warrant the 50% increase, so my decision to sell was not wrong, based on the numbers. Twitter is a POS that struggles to make revenue. When do you own up that you choose poorly, try to learn from your mistake, and move on? I'd hate to sell this stock and then some random ass report comes out tomorrow "sales through the roof! Record quarter!" and it's back up after being slaughter for so long and I sold like a fool. Again. When do you tap out on a stock?
