S&P 500 vs. pundits, year 2012 - 2018 Posted: 06 May 2018 04:19 AM PDT Graph of this issue: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DceTmy2WsAAkVMB.jpg With the end of the first quarter approaching, where are analysts most optimistic and pessimistic in terms of their ratings on stocks in the S&P 500? How have their views changed during the quarter? Overall, there are 11,094 ratings on stocks in the S&P 500. Of these 11,094 ratings, 52.2% are Buy ratings, 42.9% are Hold ratings, and 4.9% are Sell ratings. At the sector level, analysts are most optimistic on the Information Technology (60%), Health Care (59%), and Energy (59%) sectors, as these three sectors have highest percentages of Buy ratings. On the other hand, analysts are most pessimistic on the Telecom Services (33%) and Utilities (39%) sectors, as these two sectors have the lowest percentages of Buy ratings. The Telecom Services sector also has the highest percentage of Hold ratings (66%), while the Utilities sector also has the highest percentage of Sell ratings (9%). The above graph shows that stock analysts / pundits have often been wrong. Do you follow the pundits or do you analyse stocks on your own? [link] [comments] |
Can someone explain how Tesla is burning through so much cash? Posted: 06 May 2018 06:51 AM PDT I get that they are burning through cash but curious what they are spending all that cash on? Is it through a lot of supplies that are used and discarded? Hiring a ton of engineers? Building assembly lines or something? Just curious what exactly is causing the massive cash burn? How many companies on NYSE fail each year. Posted: 06 May 2018 01:07 AM PDT So my question is basically, how many companies that are being traded on NYSE fail each year or lose 90 % of market cap on average. Is there any list with failed companies. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 May 2018 01:52 AM PDT I am a college student currently starting out in the market, I currently have 20 shares of AMD, 6 shares of AK steel, and 15 shares of rite aid. I am looking to diversify my portfolio more. I am looking for good long-term investments, 10 years. But I am also open to try out shorter(6months-1yr), and medium (2-5yr.) investments if anyone has any good ones. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 May 2018 01:35 PM PDT I recently doubled my position based on the recent news of a phase 3 trial success. Based on my research, the stock price remains undervalued due to a lack of concrete earnings, and long-term investors getting tired of delays regarding their most advanced drug, RGN-259 eye drops. But I'd say as a long-term investment it's now a strong buy as the price has potential to explode upward. The next news we're expecting is the approval of RGN-259 for sales as soon as the phase 3 re-trial is completed. The re-trial will be the same as the recent phase 3 trial, but with a larger population sample size (to prove safety more accurately). Since the first 3 trials all went very well, the probability of any setbacks with the last re-trial is very low. It's about as close as I've found to a sure-thing in a while (in terms of a new drug moving to market while stock price is this low). As always, do your homework and make your own decision – some quick resources are below. Pipeline: http://www.regenerx.com/clinical-trials Recent news releases: FDA accepts RGN-259 phase 3 trial as valid, but requests a larger sample size to prove safety (this is why some long-term investors are frustrated with yet another delay): http://www.regenerx.com/2018-04-09-RegeneRx-Announces-Outcome-of-FDA-Discussions-for-Development-of-RGN-259-for-Dry-Eye-Syndrome RGN-259 completely heals over 40% of patients with neurotrophic keratopathy: http://www.regenerx.com/2018-04-25-GtreeBNT-Discloses-Preliminary-Observations-from-Seventeen-NK-Patients-Treated-with-RGN-259-Eye-Drops Dry Eye syndrome trial (RGN-259) results beat other prescription meds and includes a better safety profile: http://www.regenerx.com/2018-05-02-ReGenTree-Presents-Results-of-a-Comparison-Study-of-RGN-259-and-Approved-Prescription-Drugs-for-Dry-Eye-Syndrome-in-a-Mouse-Model-at-ARVO Valuation: Currently sitting at $0.20 per share, but is considered to be very undervalued. To be fair, they're starving for cash while they deal with these delays, which I consider the biggest negative factor with regards to investing. I have speciality-pharmaceutical experience (with a degree in chemistry) and have invested in a few similar companies over the past few years. I'm posting this because this company has not rocketed upward like other similar companies do at this stage and I feel that my ~25% returns in $RGRX so far are just scratching at the surface of the stock's potential. I am not posting this to r/pennystocks since the volatility is low and the opportunity to swing isn't ideal. Certainly a better long game. Obviously do your own DD – nothing is a sure thing, only educated bets. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 May 2018 06:00 PM PDT Seeing as the stock is down atm. I am most likely going to buy a couple k worth of MTCH shares. I would sell most after i turn some profit. Anyone else doing the same or have any better ideas on how to invest? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 May 2018 11:31 AM PDT Googling did not really help. I want to calculate the angle of these two lines crossing over (MACD average) https://puu.sh/Ahgim/f10f13cf41.png I found that a certain angle almost guarantees the stock breaking out and I want to test it, I guess I can use a ruler? Is there a tool that would calculate the angle of the crossover? [link] [comments] |

How (and why) to attend a mining conference. Posted: 06 May 2018 08:57 AM PDT Going to a mining conference looking for investing tips is like walking into a strip club hoping to find a soul mate. The ambiance and the clientele conspire against you. Despite that, we strongly urge you to attend The International Mining Investment Conference in Vancouver, May 15 & 16, 2018. [link] [comments] |

Dont try to time the market they say, im starting to have my doubts Posted: 06 May 2018 03:57 AM PDT Ive literally spend hundreds of hours studying every metric, fundamental and technical(BTW long term fundamental almost always trumps all). I consider this a valuable knowelege to have and enjoy learning as much as I can. I was an avid swing trader with great success for about a year which allowed me to accumulate some wealth. I had one harsh lesson where I lost about 2k and brought me back down to reality a little, as well as neutered me when it comes to biotech investing. However TRVN looked to juicy despite their financials(not that financials are a major moving point in small biotech companies) and ive make a fast 5 or 6% in just a few days when I noticed the ETF IBB was a strong swing trade. A product with proven efficacy, safety, and is marketable is the goal here. Then a larger company will buy them out and you make bank, unfortunately I let emotions of past experience affect my investment amount. Its up 40% in I think about 2 months, and they already have brokered 2 partnerships in Asia. So far in my 2 years of trading, Ive not only times markets with precision. Ive assumed correctly when to rotate out of sectors and into others. As for the meat, well kinda bragging but Im wondering due to my short experience if Im just constantly lucky. Which I consider the most logical explanation. When we had the run up in january I noped the fuck out of stocks. Hastely, I went into bonds, a REIT ETF , and a few odds and ends. BABA has treated me well as for every 5% down I bought 5 more shares, then ive been selling back for an alright profit. I managed to pull off $190 limit orders on Friday halfing my position. The stock I have left was bough at I think $172. Now for a little proof so you dont think im just talking out of my ass after then january runup I felt a correction was imminent and acted fast. Is sold most my stocks I pulled out of financials with amazing results, id been lowering my positions beforehand as over 100% profit on BOA and 60% on MS seemed alright with me. Right now im at about 15% equities and need my investment money short term so plan to keep it that way unfortunately. Sometimes I feel the mantra that you cannot time the market is something fed to us by institutions so they can take our money. From my 2 years experience, maybe its sheer luck. However I have timed the market and made changes with almost 100% success. If you look at the graph I posted you can see how I felt a correction coming beforhand. I realized most of my gains so thats why you see a small loss. BABA and VNQ are both up and not showing due to pending settlements so the actual amount is down -1.03% vs Also because my dividends on my bonds are mostly paid monthly I am much closer to -0.5% loss over the period of time. DJIA is down 7.22% Am I just getting really lucky? TBH I really feel its a mixture of both. My purpose of this post is not to just gloat. I want to know if there is some delusion in my mind as to my abilities to notice changes of trend in equities markets. [link] [comments] |

What are some good resources to get me in the know? Posted: 06 May 2018 03:09 AM PDT I'm looking to start investing and I'm looking for resources to get me up to speed. Also, is there a specific type of investing I should focus on if I'm investing very little (I have about $1000 on the side I can invest)? [link] [comments] |
ELI5 - Why is it a bad idea to hold 3x leveraged ETFs longterm? Posted: 05 May 2018 04:10 PM PDT If one resists selling for 5+ years, won't returns be much higher than the 'safe' option of a non-leveraged index? [link] [comments] |
Who's your broker and why does it suit you (UK)? Posted: 05 May 2018 07:47 PM PDT Hi, wondering if anyone can help with recommendation for a new broker. I was originally with GetStocks.com but they are winding up their operation and I need to move my account to another broker. I originally loved getstocks as their fees were simple and there was no annual fees for an account. Just £7 a trade was reasonable for my situation. I only want to buy and hold for long periods (years/decades), I have a tiny fund to manage so my priority is keeping fees to a minimum. They also had the fun social aspect to their platform which was cool but could have been better, I never participated. I looked at InteractiveBrokers.com and I think they are pretty similar but their costs aren't that clear to me. They may have had some connections with GetStcoks as I seen their logo on the site. Would like to know what brokers everyone uses and why it suits then see If I can find someone I can relate to. [link] [comments] |

Golden/Death Cross Model with Initial Claims filter that yields an average of 16% per year Posted: 05 May 2018 05:01 PM PDT Here's a really simple trading model that yields an average of 16% per year: Indicator: Buy SSO when the S&P 500 makes a "golden cross", AND… the 50sma remains above its 200sma for 5 consecutive trading days (in other words, the S&P made a "golden cross" 5 days ago). Only SELL your SSO if both of these indicators occur: Indicator 1: When the S&P 500 makes a "death cross", AND… Indicator 2: Initial Claims is above its 52 week (1 year) moving average for 8 consecutive weeks (2 months). https://bullmarkets.co/model-golden-death-cross-with-initial-claims-filter/ [link] [comments] |
