    Abbvie Tender Offer

    Posted: 01 May 2018 06:22 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I hold shares in Abbvie. Today they announced that they will be buying back $7.5b worth of shares between a tender offer price of $99-$114. My question is why would a company want to do this? And what happens to the outstanding share price after this tender offer is over?

    Posted: 01 May 2018 08:00 AM PDT

Sup ya'll. I'm 24 and in an MBA program. Been given a couple small gifts and put some money away previously which I'm trying not to touch. Obviously, I'm looking for more high potential stocks as I can leave these for a while. I'm most exposed to Tesla and Alibaba. Lesser holdings in Westlake Chemical Partners, Tencent, Petroteq, Hess Midstream, GoPro (Fuck me), Concert Pharma and AMD. Would love some thoughts on those and others to look at. Much love and btfd

Any interesting stocks for my portfolio?

    Posted: 01 May 2018 11:10 AM PDT

    Hi,

I already have around 6K in total 50/50 in amazon and Facebook which are the only stocks I own atm. I have been saving up some money and I got 6K more in cash I would like to invest now. I honestly got no idea what I'm doing but seems to go well so far. I'm considering AMD but wondering if my next stocks should not be tech related to spread out the risk?

Maybe someone have some interesting stocks, I could have a further looks at?

I prefer American or European stocks, but I'm open minded (just not Chinese stocks)

    Thanks in advance!

On what day can I sell a bond and still collect its dividend?

    Posted: 01 May 2018 01:20 PM PDT

Right now im invested 80% in bonds because I will need to cash out the money in the short term. Today I took a beating pretty hard. Even though my account was only down 0.18% the loss in bond value was pretty insane even MINT which usually moves .01-.03% a day was down 0.18% just today. One of my higher risk bonds EMHY went down 0.62%.

It seems the FED saying they will be more aggressive with interest rates to combat inflation is what had this impact, as interest rates have an inverse relationship with bond prices. Im not looking to just cash out right away, as the damage from the news may already be done(or not who knows).

I would like to start cashing out on some of it, particularly all of my high risk bonds. I just need to know what day I can cash out and still receive my monthly dividend.

    Example: MINT

    Declaration Date: 3/29/18

    Record date : 4/3/18

    Payment Date: 4/5/18

Also today was the Ex-Dividend Date, however I just know that means the day you have to buy it to receive the next dividend, not sure if it has any meaning to when I sell

(edit: all of the websites are giving conflicting amounts, Nasdaq.com agrees with merrill lynch, but yahoo and google both show -0.24% on EMHY this is in fact true for all of my bonds, yahoo shows MINT is down 0.02%, google says its flat, and nasdaq agrees with Merrill Lynch again, Id think Nasdaq would be the most accurate, but im not sure wtf is going on)

    Question about dividend payout calculation

    Posted: 01 May 2018 11:34 AM PDT

Lets say I buy a stock for $10 this quarter. The dividend is stated at 10% for the year. This quarter i expect to get paid $0.25.

Now, lets say the share price depreciates to $8 next quarter. I am assuming I would still get $0.25?

Are dividend payouts the same for everybody or is each payout depend on how much each person bought the stock for? I am assuming every shareholder will get the same percent payout but the amount differs on buy price?

What stocks went up a lot after Hurricane Harvey? Or even Sandy and Katrina as well.

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:48 AM PDT

I'm writing a report and I'm like to know if you remember any stocks that had a BIG boost in the aftermath of large, destructive hurricanes (namely Harvey, Sandy, and Katrina).

Something like quick spikes in a matter of days or weeks.

If so, do you remember their names and about how big of a percentage gain they experienced?

This isn't an investment question by the wayt (I'm not fishing for stock picks).

Portfolio Teardown - Don't hold back

    Posted: 01 May 2018 12:51 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Would love a teardown of my portfolio - feel like my portfolio is (1) stale (2) lacking aggressive growth stocks (3) only filled with picks I deeply understand and also therefore biased (aka queue TSLA wreckage). It's up ~30% in the last 18 months but figured time to make moves.

Feel free to make any suggestions and appreciate the help in advance:

    TSLA 32.58% AMZN 20.82% TWLO 19.58% AUPH 10.46% AAPL 7.21% MSFT 4.69% MU 3.38% AMD 0.80% NRZ 0.47%

    Context:

    • AUPH was an early pick up that I still feel strongly about and am tracking their clinical trials heavily but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here
    • Should have sold MU off during the peak but now wondering if its a longer term hold
    • NRZ was just a stupid buy and will probably sell off. Barely holding.
