Tesla offers Fremont factory as collateral

    Posted: 09 May 2018 12:22 AM PDT

    https://www.autoblog.com/2018/05/08/tesla-car-factory-collateral/

NEW YORK — Tesla has changed the terms of its borrowing agreement with banks to allow it to pledge its Fremont auto plant as collateral — a move seen by some analysts as an effort to boost liquidity.

The electric car maker has just $543 million of the $1.8 billion credit facility left to use, according to a regulatory filing on Monday. But banks periodically review the amount they are willing to lend, and Tesla continues to burn through cash.

"While not clear at this point, we suspect that with the large upcoming cash burn in 2Q18, the banks have demanded additional collateral protection for Tesla to maintain its $1.8 billion facility," CreditSights analysts said in a note.

"In doing so the banks are protecting themselves."

A person familiar with the matter told Thompson Reuters IFR the amendment had not been requested by the banks and was at the company's discretion.

But the 5.3 million square-foot plant in Fremont, California, would give banks a claim on one of Tesla's most valuable assets. It is the production hub of Tesla's mass-market Model 3 sedan, which is seen as key for the company's path to profitability.

Tesla, however, is struggling to ramp up production of the car. It is trying to build 5,000 of the vehicles per week by the end of June and overcome manufacturing hurdles that have delayed its rollout.

"They are still going to burn cash for a couple of years," said Scott Roberts, head of high yield investments at Invesco, who does not own Tesla bonds.

"They are shoring up liquidity before they need to probably because they think they will need it."

Chief Executive Elon Musk has promised investors that the company will swing to a profit in the third quarter, after accumulating losses for several quarters.

Match CEO shrugs off Facebook threat as earnings beat

    Posted: 08 May 2018 02:57 PM PDT

EPS of .33 vs .19 expected on revenue of 407.4M (+36% YoY) vs 386M. Raised guidance for next quarter and for this year. Also expressed positive sentiment towards Facebook entering the dating game.

While Tinder traditionally required new users to sign in with Facebook first to authenticate their accounts, the company rolled out an alternative sign-up option last summer, and Ginsberg said that about 75% of new users now choose not to register with Facebook when given the option.

"They didn't want to mix Facebook with their dating lives," she said.

    ...

Ginsberg also argued that Facebook's entry into the category could help "chip away at the stigma" against online dating, especially with older individuals and those in international markets.

"Facebook's move could be category-expansive," she said, since Match believes that users of online-dating products tend to use an average of three at a time.

Shares up over 5% up on the day. Resume the gain-train?

Help me understand the Tmobile Sprint merger and why both stocks are getting hammered?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 11:21 PM PDT

Is it a bad deal for both and how is Sprint 5.15 going for less than what the proposed buyout price would be at this moment. How are both company stocks getting shell shocked after jumping just a few days ago. Is this not going through, do investors anticipate the regulators not allowing this.

Accumulated a bunch of physical gold, now what?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 11:48 AM PDT

Hey folks I'm here looking for some opinions and tips on how to go about shifting up my financial situation. First a little bit of back story, please try not to be too harsh on me for being such a PF noob.

A few years back I was weary of the stock market and caved into the hype of all the precious metals pumpers and began slowly buying physical gold/silver on a regular basis as a means of building some savings. I'm not upside down on my purchases by any means but it hasn't really done anything in terms of growth either.

Over time this has grown into a sizeable amount (for me) and after recently doing lots of reading on /r/personalfinance and /r/investing my outlook has changed on how I should be allocating my funds.

Below is a breakdown of how things are currently situated:

**Assets:** * Gold: $37k~ * Silver: $17k~ * Major Emergency fund (Ally Savings): $12k~ (6 months living expenses) * Minor Emergency Fund: $3k~ (kept in checking) * Vanguard IRA: $5,500 (just finally started this a few weeks ago) **Liabilities:** * Zero debts, recently paid off student loan and car loan :)

I have a decent job which leaves me with about $1-2k leftover each month after all expenses depending on commissions.

I realize that I should likely liquidate a lot of the metals but I'm wondering what I should reallocate to and how much?

I'm currently renting and have a pretty good deal where I'm living at but have thought about purchasing a house using the funds from the metals as a 20% down payment. I'm just nervous of another big market correction after seeing my parents make poor choices and lose everything back in 08, or are my fears totally unjustified?

Thanks for reading, looking forward to gaining some new insights.

Data Driven Approach to ICO Investing (Part I)

    Posted: 09 May 2018 02:56 AM PDT

Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) can be a great investment. They can make you rich really quick. However, this does not necessarily mean it is a smooth ride all the way to the bank. Just like any other great opportunity, there is always risk involved. First, there are plenty of fake scams and you can lose your hard earned money if you are not careful. Secondly, it's difficult to accurately envisage the success rate of a startup. It is not unusual that a startup company might not pursue a project to completion, or even worse, you may be swindled into investing in a project that they have no intention of ever launching. So, what makes a good ICO? How can you assess the credibility of an ICO? Here are seven essential questions you need to ask before investing an ICO: 1. Do they have a prototype? 2. How does it work? 3. Can the team execute? 4. What is the pricing model? 5. How is token allotment done? 6. Does the token appreciate in value the more it is used? 7. Are there bounty programs?

    Investment Banking question

    Posted: 08 May 2018 12:45 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Today i had my first lecture in the investment banking module and professor told us this: "If company A wants to acquire company B, but B rejects the deal, then if the stock price of A goes down, it means that company A benefited from the deal" which is quite confusing. How can that happen?

    Thanks for your time.

Consequences for contributing to Roth IRA when income is too high?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:05 PM PDT

Hi all - My wife and I gross over 400K (split about equal) but have still been contributing to Roth IRA's. She contributes to a Roth 401K through her employer, and I max out my 401K with an additional 15K split between brokerage and $5500 for Roth. I expect alot of shit given for this question, but who actually polices contribution versus qualification?

We file married jointly, last year our taxable income was north of 400. If I'm reading online resources correctly, we make too much to contribute. When and how do I get penalized for contributing?

    Thoughts on JNJ?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 07:54 AM PDT

Got in at 130, but seems like it is on a Bearish trend and is lagging behind the market considerably. What are your thoughts?

Personally going to hold for now, but monitoring closely as I have too much of my money tied into this, and want to free up some funds for other investments.

Edit: Bit of background: I originally invested in JNJ blindly, but upon further research, Only 20% of JNJ is consumer goods, the rest of it is pharma & medical devices. The growth in consumer goods is very flat, and has been for a while. I am essentially investing in a mostly pharma/health product company, and that doesn't give me a lot of comfort, as I have next to 0 knowledge on this sector.

At what point, if ever, will it be significant that the Shiller PE ratio for the S&P is fairly close to twice the historical median and mean?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:18 AM PDT

    http://www.multpl.com/shiller-pe/

I have heard explanations that the great recession in '08 is affecting this (using data looking ten years back) but before long that should be less and less of a factor.

Should I use leverage or not? IB margin is pretty cheap at like 2%

Or maybe 600% by buying properties in NoVA for the HQ2 move.

    Question about p/e

    Posted: 08 May 2018 07:56 PM PDT

So, if a stock has a low p/e (like Verizon at less than 10), that means they're cheap, right? If that's the case, does that mean during a bear market or a recession they aren't hit as hard?

Daily advice thread. All questions about your personal situation should be asked here

    Posted: 08 May 2018 05:05 AM PDT

If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or anything similar. There is no single answer to this question, but we will also need A LOT MORE information if we are to give some sort of answer

    • How old are you?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive girlfriend? (not really an asset)
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • Any big debts?
    • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

Be aware that these answers are just opinions of Redditors and should be used as a starting point for your research. You should strongly consider seeing a registered financial rep before making any financial decisions!

I don't understand why Tabula Rasa didn't pop.

    Posted: 08 May 2018 03:20 PM PDT

So, I've been invested in Tabula Rasa TRHC for a few weeks now. I usually am scared of holding through earnings. But I was confident with TRHC. Turns out, TRHC beat expectations by expectations by 900%. They were expected to make .01 EPS, but reported .10 EPS.

But alas, no pop in after hours or anything. I don't understand, it all seems so arbitrary.
