Since a couple month ago, i was banned on that freelance website (and i decided not to depend on it and create my own website. I already worked for clients and it is going well so far. However i want to get more online presence in order to attract more clients and grow my business. Here's what i already did :

Yelp says "do not ask for reviews" Posted: 08 May 2018 04:20 PM PDT According to Yelps support center, they say to not ask customers to review your business basically in any way. https://www.yelp-support.com/article/Don-t-Ask-for-Reviews?l=en_US I see gurus, business owners, entreprenuers etc. telling others to ask for reviews and they also do-so themselves. Is this breaking yelp guidelines? Or is this some sort of recommendation by Yelp? [link] [comments] |
Where do you find inspiration for business ideas? Posted: 09 May 2018 02:43 AM PDT Let me start by saying I'm not looking for ideas for a business - there are a million and one threads for that. What I'm after is more to do with the process you followed to find the ideal business for you. What process did you follow to come up with ideas for your business? Did you approach it scientifically by trying to identify gaps in the market? Was it just a hunch? Was it just a copy cat idea? [link] [comments] |
Need help with launching Ecommerce. Posted: 08 May 2018 08:37 PM PDT TL;DR: need help figuring out who to hire or look for to design, launch, and run our (not yet existent) ecomm. Background: Ecomm in our industry is fragmented and "weird" in that it has elements of both B2B and B2C within it. We know we need to get in the game, and I have a rough understanding of the basics, and I know I need someone to take the lead and guide us through it. But who? What qualities does this person have? Do I overpay for someone with tons of technical skills? Do I build someone up from scratch? Do I outsource the whole thing? A combination? Based on some research I think we should be able to easily hit $20k/month of incremental business within the first 6 months, so we have some budget to work with as it shouldn't take too long to have the position pay for itself. Any advice or direction is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Software for used car dealership? Posted: 08 May 2018 07:03 PM PDT My dad has his own tiny car dealership. He focuses on damaged cars. He repairs them and sells to the public after the car has no more defects. I am looking for a software that can keep track of inventory (cars and parts), expenses, and payments (since he often sells on credit). Any web based or downloadable software works or any combination of two or three free software would also work. The simpler the better since he does not sale more than 5 cars a month. I know there are many similar questions in here but I could not find one suitable. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for Tie-ins for a name generator Posted: 08 May 2018 08:08 PM PDT I just worked on a business name generator as a quick side project for one of my clients. (You can see it here : https://fungenerators.com/name/business/ ). What are some of tie - ins that are good to integrate apart from the obvious like domain name registration, social network accounts etc? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2018 07:58 PM PDT My uncle had an auto repair software program that included the accounting like billing, payments, invoicing, etc and also all the car repair manuals you would ever need. I haven't been able to find a program like this for him. Has anyone come across a program that would have all this? [link] [comments] |
Online Payments for Small Business Posted: 08 May 2018 04:45 PM PDT Hey small business owners of reddit, looking for your feedback on my small business idea :) I've gone through a lot of small business websites and it doesn't seem like they offer their customers a way to pay online. Hiring any decent developer to build out an online payment interface (with Stripe or similar service) would set you back at least a grand if not double or triple that. What I want to do is offer a cookie cutter template for $200 (you would still pay the processing fees) that you can add to whatever hosting service you are using. I know some website building services offer this already but strangely it's rather expensive. As a small business owner, would this interest you? And if not, why not? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Offering a Couple Free Websites Posted: 08 May 2018 10:51 PM PDT Hey guys I recently started a web design business. I am interested in doing some websites for free to go through the process of actually working with a client and creating a website that satisfies the client. All you would have to do is pay for the domain name (about $10) and the hosting ($around 10 dollars a month). I can make a website for your business and can even build a custom, Basic CMS if you are trying to make a blog (however this would take more time and experimentation on my part). If you are interested please say so. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2018 06:50 PM PDT A business acquaintance came to me with an idea. It was a really good idea. We spoke in vague terms about an "equal partnership". The vision that he would be the financial backer, I would be the workhorse. This business is moving forward (solely from my efforts, which is fine. That was part of the handshake deal). We are getting to a point where I am coordinating the S-Corp being filed, acquiring Insurance, Vetting Employees, Marketing Strategies, etc, etc. My questions: b. In creating the operating / partnership agreement....what do you know now, that you wish you knew then? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM! EDIT TO CLARIFY: Start Up Costs are around $20,000 to cover 6 month operating costs + another $70,000 total in personal lines of credit. Theoretically, I can chip in $10,000 + $35, in personal credit. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2018 05:23 PM PDT Hi more and more of my customers want me to accept credit cards. I currently only do checks or cash because I'm a contractor and that what we normally accept. But I was wondering what is a good solution to start using credit cards and is there any greater risk when using credit cards? And is PayPal considered credit card payment or what's a good option [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2018 02:53 PM PDT If this kind of post is frowned upon, I'll take it down but; I am working on developing a non-profit web-based resource to "support local businesses by providing connections to community resources to solve their greatest issues". Below you will find a link to a series of questions asking how important some aspects of you business are and how difficult it is to find assistance in those same areas. Our goal is to be a source of connection between local businesses and those that are there to assist you. Thank you for your help in identifying how we can help you with your greatest issues. https://provident.typeform.com/to/sZJk16 I would also love to hear any deeper feedback from the mission, what's in quotes, and the style and types of questions asked. Maintain control of your domain name! Posted: 08 May 2018 02:00 PM PDT Working with an attorney, long story short his website sucks and he wants a new one. But he really likes his domain name and to be fair its a good one. However apparently the website contract he signed gave his current website provider complete control over his domain name...it never belonged to him it belonged to the company in question. And we have to come up with a new domain name...but seriously when it comes to your intellectual property such as domain names do not like an outside provider control what happens to your domain name. You can redirect your domain name wherever you want it to go too, there is no need to give another company control. In fact I advise my clients when starting up new websites to register their domain names in THEIR NAMES, don't let us do it. Its an extra layer of protection.? In fact a few weeks back my company tried to get my client to give us her domain name, they said It'll save you the money you have to pay to maintain it because we'll maintain it for you and not charge you for it. I told my client she needs to tell my company no, keep paying the fees she needs to maintain her domain name and retain control...and I gave that advise to my client whose website is ran by my company. Posted: 08 May 2018 01:35 PM PDT This seems to be an incredibly attractive alternative to offering conventional insurance for the growing business. I've read through a couple of the primers on peoplekeep and cedrsolutions (not sure if links are allowed here) and I still have a few questions about how this law works. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

FMLA from my day job vs small business Posted: 08 May 2018 07:04 AM PDT For context, I live and work in New York. I may be taking lengthy FMLA from my full time day job later this year based on a doctor's recommendation. I'm worried about legal ramifications if it looks like I'm working during my FMLA since I'm running a business completely separate from my day work, that currently mostly takes place online, and I don't really track when I am and am not working on that project. To be fair, the business is still in its infancy and I think it'll be some time before it shows much growth. Does anyone have experience with this or a similar issue? I'd love to hear any input, to be honest. [link] [comments] |
Are there any budget-friendly White Label Sales eTraining solutions? Posted: 08 May 2018 06:58 AM PDT Looking to add Sales Training to our company offering. Would like to carry out a Proof of Concept using a White Label service first of all before dedicating resources (time/money) to building out the entire platform personally. Can anyone recommend a good small scale [0-100 customers] White Label eTraining platform to trial? [link] [comments] |

Do you find the "average Joe" pushing you down or trying to hold you back? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:58 AM PDT So I posted to my community forum website asking people what they were looking for in a business, something they wish would be up here but wasn't. It's a small community (about 17,000) and there really isn't a lot up here that is community based. I am getting a lot of pushback about how they want it to "stay the way it is" and "have more trees and less buildings." While I agree with some of this I have also lived here for 20 years and have seen/heard all the complaints about how "life up here would be better if we just had ______." I was kind if shocked and disheartened with the negative feedback I have received so far. Is it always like this or am I just lucky? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone here ever tried purchasing a mailing list? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:46 AM PDT I'm looking to mail to the same people who subscribe to certain magazines (photography) -- I just found a website that supposedly has a list from Professional Photographer. I didn't really think that this was a real thing but on the off chance, has anyone had experience purchasing direct mailing lists before? How was that experience like? Is this even a thing anymore?
