NY: I'm worried about my parents. They haven't come home in two days and we haven't heard a single word from them.

Hi. I'm 14 year old and I live currently with my older sister who is 17. Basically my parents have not been home since Wednesday (the last day we saw them). They did not come home on Thursday or Friday. They have not come home today too. My sister and I have been calling them for a while and no response and we're both very worried. I dont know what to do. They are pretty wealthy so I'm worried they were kidnapped or something. What should we do? Should we call the police or file a missing persons request? This is very out of character for both of them.

    Edit

Ok guys I took your advice and I told my sister we should probably start checking with other people and make sure they are okay. We looked up their work online and contacted the number. Unfortunately, we couldn't contact my mom's work but we did contact my dad's. My sister told them about the situation and they told us that my dad showed up for work on both Thursday and Friday. I'm assuming the same is true for my mom. That is weird as fuck. Why did they not come home from work on Thursday or call us back? And why would they go back to work on Friday? That's so weird.

So after that we called the cops. My sister told the cops everything that happened and she told them that we were really worried something happened to them. The operator said that they would investigate immediately. They asked us for their numbers, their names, their work, and other relevant information and she told them all they needed. She told them about the situation in detail and she also told them about what my dad's work said. The operator also said that she could send over an officer to check up on us and my sister said it wasn't needed. I think we should be safe. Our family is pretty wealthy and they leave a lot of cash in the house. We also have plenty of food in the house, my sister has a joint bank account set up with my mom, and if needed, we do have some friends we could call. My sister also called our grandparents and told them about the situation. They live a couple of states away but they said that they can come over asap but we said we didn't need that for now.

So hopefully we will hear back soon. I think the cops can probably track my parent's phone numbers or use security cam footage or something similar.

I'm glad to hear that my dad showed up for work both days. It's so damn weird but at least its better than them disappearing for two days with no one knowing anything about what happened. I feel like they are just messing around or maybe they want to spend some time together and not with us in the way for a few days. I'm feeling a lot better about the whole thing!

(Update) My mom commited suicide and now her landlord is threatening to sue me

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:05 AM PDT

Hello there, first I would like to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for all the messages, comments and PM's you guys sent. It truly made this process less painful and I'll be forever grateful for each one of you.

Especial shoutout to u/RalesBlasband for his comment, I'm very sorry for your loss but what you said gave a at least a sense of peace. Thank you

I'd also like to thank u/JamesMcGillEsq, that comment gave some interesting perspective to what the future looks like.

I'm afraid I might have come across as cold or rude, if so, it was not on purpose I was just very nervous.

I'm sorry for not responding all of you or not responding sooner, I had to talk to my teachers/employers to figure it out my schedule. The comments telling me to get my moms things out of the house made me super anxious and I couldn't think of anything else.

So I did something stupid and called the roommate(sorry guys), that's when it gets weird... the lady was super nice and so, she told me I could go and get my moms things that night(at least her books/letters/small things) and I decide to approach the matter of the emotional support thing.

Now, I would be willing to help her(or completely) pay for the emotional support she may need, as she was the one who found my mom and, while they weren't super close, were becaming fast friends. I guess I felt more hurt that she decided to send a letter with my landlord.

I said I would be willing to pay but that I thought it had to be separate from the landlord. She didn't know what the hell I was talking about.

Yeah... I explained the email and she was furious. So apparently the landlord lied about that... I asked if she would be willing to talk to my lawyer and make it clear she wasn't asking to financial support and she agreed so I guess we'll see. I have an appointment with lawyer on monday and I'll bring this up to her.

All and all, it's seems like this isn't over but at least it seems like it will go on well. I got my moms things out of the house and the lady was kind enough to keep some of the sentimental things I couldn't take locked in her room.

Once again, thank you guys for all the advice, if it weren't for all of them I'd probably have just called the landlord and try to negotiate.

One last thing, I'll leave the emergency number down there(if it's allowed, if not, mods, please tell me and I'll edit it out). If you're feeling suicidal, like you want to hurt yourself, depressed or emotionless, please reach out. I know it doesn't look like but there are people willing to help, my first post proves that!

Anyone who is in crisis for any reason is encouraged to call. The number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is: * 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

    Other Free Suicide Hotlines

There are other free suicide hotlines in the United States for specific populations as well.

For International Suicide Hotline Callers If you are calling from outside of the United States, these numbers won't be available to you. No matter where you are, though, help is available.

Niece's baby daddy (17M) has left her and we can't get in contact with him. His parents are threatening to sue us if we try to get in contact with him because he's a minor.

    Posted: 04 May 2018 09:17 PM PDT

(I feel like I post here too much...)

Pretty much what the title suggests. My niece is 17. Her baby daddy is a 17 year old, turning 18 in four months. She gave birth 3 weeks ago. Prior to the birth, they broke up and he got into another relationship with another girl. She never told us this until the baby was born. When she informed him of the baby's due date again, he told her to "fuck off" and that he didn't want anything to do with the baby or her. So, this is basically where we're at. He fled the state for college, as we're told, and we have no idea where he went. My sister tried to get in contact with his parents, but they cursed at her and said that they didn't approve of the relationship, my niece was a whore, and that the boy had a good future, not raising some whore's baby. (Classy.) In a span of four weeks, we've contacted them twice: the first time to ask them again nicely for his contact info because she was going to be induced (ignored), the second time was after the baby was born and we offered to let them see him. They threatened to sue us because, according to their message:

    >you are harrassing (sic) us. Our son is a good kid. He made a mistake with getting with (niece). Now, (he) is going to college and won't be returning home until he graduates. During this time, we want no contact from any of you. He doesn't want to be with that girl or her child. HE has a future. HE IS going to college. He has so much potential and we are not going to let some little girl ruin that. (other things not important) He is a minor. We are his parents. DO not contact him again or we WILL SUE.

(Yes, this was literally their message.)

My sister is freaking out about the thought of them suing, despite reassurances that they wouldn't win/had no case. Legally, what are our options? Because he is a minor we know that his parents can block contact with us, but he has a legal responsibilities to his child now. My husband and I are going to be helping my sister set up some appointments with a family lawyer, but in the mean time, what can we do?

Suspended by Work after reporting incident

    Posted: 05 May 2018 07:11 AM PDT

I do independent contracting work delivering groceries. On May 1st I went into a Whole Foods that requires a validated parking ticket that you take out of a machine.

I went to get my ticket validated then proceeded to the refrigerator where they store the bags. I was approached by two employees who work for the company I work for (not Whole Foods). For this order, these employees fill the bags and I drop them off.

They told me I need to give them my parking ticket and took it out of my hand. They told me everything was fine and that all I needed to do was put this into a machine downstairs (normally I just leave). I told them I didn't like this and that I didn't want to have to pay for parking.

The female employee starts verbally laying into me saying I have a bad attitude. I repeatedly assert that she never should've interacted with me to begin with. I spent several minutes trying to get the phone app to work so I can get my order and leave. When I finally get it to work I repeat to her not to interact with me next time as it's not required at all by our job. At this point she calls security over and tells them to watch out for me again because "I have a bad attitude". I told the security guard what happened and left.

Upon going downstairs I learn that I would in fact have to pay for parking. This whole situation was an elaborate way to get me to trade my ticket so they wouldn't have to move their car or pay. I told security to go get me my original ticket back. He came to me and said she refused. I approached the two employees and turned to the male asking "is this the ticket I came in with?" Pointing to one on the table. He said yes. I took my ticket gave them the one they put in my hand back and left.

I called and reported this to our company via phone.

I was able to work the following day but have been suspended since the 2nd pending an "investigation of threats made against shoppers" meaning she accused me of threatening her. That is a crime. At no point while I was physically there did she accuse me of this.

My question is what recourse do I have and basically do I need a lawyer? Should I sue just her or her AND the company?

Forgot to say this is Portland, OR.

I am a photographer that has been contracted to take nude photos of a public figure. How do I protect myself from legal liability regarding these images?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 07:22 AM PDT

I am a wedding photographer - I work full time. Recently, I was contacted by a non-local couple. I agreed to do their wedding and engagement. At the time of the engagement, I came to understand that the couple both worked as very well known actors/actresses in Chicago.

The young lady later asked me if I could capture some sexy boudoir images of her so that she could gift it to her husband. ( this is very common). I agreed to do an extended session for her - for very little compensation in exchange for a release. I agreed to do this because she photographs very well and I was looking for images that I could use for a sample album for marketing.

I had her sign a standard photography release agreement. Embedded in the agreement is a simple model release clause. This clause communicates the terms of use for the images for portfolio and commercial use. She signed the agreement and returned it quickly.

While I was excited to use the images for their aesthetic beauty, I had not thought through the fact that she is a public figure. I have no real incentive nor desire to capitalize on her likeness.

While I don't need to post the images to a site or Instagram. I did agree to do the shoot for the privilege of using her images to create a sample album in print. This sample album would include her non-nude, partial, (or implied nude) images. Basically no boobs or frontal.

I am also obligated by contract, to keep all images nude or otherwise in my possession, and store them for several years.

Even though the client agreed to this in writing, I don't think she thought this through any more than I had. I am now assuming that I pretty much screwed myself over on being able to get my sample album - regardless of my due diligence. Even still, I feel there is some legal liability around having to hold and store nude images of a public figure.

What do I need to do now to protect myself and her ?

    Edited for clarity

Accidentally sold cigarettes to underage girl that I carded within the first 3 hours of starting the job.

    Posted: 04 May 2018 06:32 PM PDT

I just started working at a gas station (Ohio) and had no clue what I was doing. I was overwhelmed the first day trying to learn it all. I was giving people the wrong amount of change, mixing up prices, etc. My boss went out for an hour and I was with another employee. They were helping somebody else out, when a girl came in asking for cigarettes. She looked young so I asked her for her ID, which she gave me and I read her birth date. I was was so overwhelm that I must of did the math wrong because 2 minutes after she left two undercover cops come in and give me a ticket and a court appearance. I tried to explain to the cops that it was my first day and that I did ID her, but they still gave me the ticket. I don't know what to do; I've never been to court before except for a speeding ticket when I was 16 (I about to turn 21 in a few months) and that was mandatory. Any help would really be great.

Private seller won't ship aircraft engine, won't respond after payment.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 05:49 AM PDT

    Hi,

I recently tried making a deal for a hard-to-find aircraft engine by posting an ad on an aviation classifieds website (think Craigslist for planes).

This person contacted me with seemingly exactly what I was looking for. Sent me complete scans of the logs, photos of the engine, etc, and priced very fairly. I asked if we could sign a bill of sale to which he agreed and sent. I agreed to pay shipping (he's supposedly in IL, and I'm in FL). He sent me a quote letter from a shipping company, so I proceded to send a bank transfer (2871.37 total, including shipping). As soon as I sent it he informs me that he's having problems with his bank and is reversing the transfer and to send it to his other bank, and then radio silence. I contacted my bank and they said no reversal has been initiated.

Here are some pictures of the conversation/bill of sale.

What can I do to pursue this?

[CO] My wife just found sexting messages and possibly worse on my stepdaughters phone from someone who is at least 17. She is 12.

    Posted: 04 May 2018 07:32 PM PDT

(Throwaway account) My stepdaughter got in trouble for something very small but lied about it and it blew up and she got her phone taken away and grounded. I will just say that 99.9% of the time she is an absolute angel and this is blowing my fucking mind. I don't think we would have ever known but she left the phone on her private Instagram messages.

There is some fucked up shit in there. He is talking about how she should be bulimic and cut herself. There is very aggressive sexting. My wife has only found some pictures that are nude but parts are covered. I don't know. I'm not fucking looking.

She did see that this guy is in ROTC so he is at least 17 but more likely 18 or older. He is located in Arkansas and we are in Colorado so at least I can thank my fucking stars he isn't in the next town.

We are obviously not giving her the phone back and we are not letting her access any other devices either. We have not told her we know yet. My wife wants this guy in prison. She is not going to just let him go and say "lesson learned".

TL;DR Someone at least 17 is sexting (and probably worse) my 12 year old stepdaughter. What should I do?

Edit I'm on Reddit enough to know that a few of you will want to get up on your high horse and tell me about parental responsibility. I am not interested. If you want to discuss those issues feel free to repost this in r/relationshipadvice with my permission.

My father was deported, and my neighbors are making things worse for me.

    Posted: 04 May 2018 09:19 PM PDT

Currently I'm 20 years old living with my younger siblings, and my aunt, and uncle we're fine with bills, and food the only real problem we have is with our neighbor he's an older man who has been my dad's drinking buddy for the better part of 6 years, and has helped our family with repairs around the house, but about 2 months ago I had spotted him inside my dad's room when they were working on a walk-in closet for my dad's stuff, and he had been pulling some wires out while we were outside, and I believe he might have stolen printed copies of my 3 younger siblings SSN, but I Wasn't sure of my speculation till last week when my dad had already been deported the week before, and I was doing some late night cleaning outside I heard him talking loudly like he usually does about how he took my brother, and sisters SSN, and filed them under his taxes, so I was wondering is there a way for me to get the money anonymously as he's my next door neighbour, and I don't want any trouble with him.

Btw I was also told that he has had trouble with irs for tax evasion as he tried to get off not paying, and they were going to take his house until he transfered ownership to his daughter.

    Edit for bot USA/TX

Single mom who pays child support but one child lives with me

    Posted: 05 May 2018 06:13 AM PDT

I live in Florida and my ex husband had primary custody of our 2 daughter's (15, & 17). 4 months ago the 17 year old refused to stay living with her dad and is living with me full time. I still pay him child support even though she is living with me. Can I petition the court to have that stopped? I also want a credit for the money I have been paying since she decided to live with me full time. Any help would be appreciated..

    Affidavit for educational neglect

    Posted: 05 May 2018 09:43 AM PDT

    Throwaway account

I live in Idaho. We have two children aged 9 and 6. Not married and no custody plan in place which is getting fixed Monday afternoon when I talk to my lawyer. I get up for work at 6 everyday and am home by 4. Wife does not work and won't get a job. She is responsible for getting the kids to school.

I was having a suspicion that my kids weren't going to school regularly and went to the school to get a print out of tardies and attendance. The office lady gave me the sheet and it's pretty bad. My oldest missed 47 days last year and 29 days this year. My youngest is missing roughly the same amount of days this year and is currently in kindergarten. When I asked why I was not being informed of this they said they were asked not to by my wife (last year) because "I didn't want to be bothered at work." Which is a lie. I was then advised to speak to the counselor. I could not believe this had been going on for so long with no one notifying me.

Upon speaking to the counselor it became apparent they have filed an affidavit for educational neglect through the prosecutor. I feel like I've been hit by a truck as I had no idea it was this bad.

Does anyone have any advice moving forward or what I should expect with this sort of thing? Anything I need to do to protect my ability to keep my kids from being placed in the system? I am also worried she will flee the state with my kids when she realizes the authorities are getting involved.

    Thank you for reading.

Neighbors reaching through fence to pet dog

    Posted: 05 May 2018 10:32 AM PDT

Currently in Michigan, USA. My new neighbors keep reaching through our chain link fence to pet our dog. I've asked the kids to stop but the parents seem pretty convinced our dog "knows them well by now". My dog is currently a bit adolescent and can get over excited. What would happen if he accidentally bit one of them? Would he be considered a vicious animal and get put down? Could I get sued even though they're reaching on to my property?

    Hell of boogers and blood

    Posted: 05 May 2018 01:46 PM PDT

I work for a LARGE local company in Anchorage, Alaska.

In the building I work many call centers teams have been crammed together and are being combined.

In this building there is someone who is continually wiping mucus, blood and who knows what else all over the walls, surfaces and even office supplies.

This has gone to my VPs with pictures, even including bloody FINGERPRINTS, and they refuse to do anything about it. I even contacted other business owners I know and passed on several good suggestions and solutions to them which were ignored. They even told me they already went to HR so I shouldn't bother.

The more I bring it up, the harsher they act towards me and the worse I am treated.

I am seriously worried about contracting something from somebodies bodily fluids being wiped everywhere.

I have zero clue what to do from here. Any advice is appreciated. More and more everyday this is stressing me out to the point that it is affecting my mental health, having me check every office supply I use and every surface I touch.

Someone called police on my brother in Florida that he is going to harm himself.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 12:07 PM PDT

My brother in Florida was taken to a mental hospital at 2am this morning as an anonymous tip said he was going to harm himself. He was woken up by police sirens and walked to his backyard where he was arrested and brought to the mental facility.

Looking for general next steps as my mom has been on the phone with him, his friends, and attorney. He was out drinking last night and is stupid when he drinks but not sure how all this will hold up.

    Any advice please?!

In laws are opening a business and want my wife to use her name to incorporate it

    Posted: 05 May 2018 09:40 AM PDT

(Canada) Throwaway for personal reasons. My brother in law and sister in law currently own an individual salon store where the company is franchised. They are looking to open their own salon outside the franchise very soon. They are required to maintain ownership of the franchised store until October but want to open their store in June or July. The problem is that their franchise contract says they cannot open a salon while still owning the franchised store. Because they don't want to have a period where they aren't owning either store, they want to open their own store right away. To do this, they have asked that my wife (BILs sister) use her name to open their store so they can do both at the same time. My BIL and SIL said that their lawyer suggested this option but we are nervous about it. MY BIL and SIL are good people and certainly have no malicious intentions and have seemingly done a decent job owning the franchised store. But they are also very ambitious and somewhat naive at times, which has led to problems for them. This business deal has already had several details change and sure thing investors fall through after they hyped them up as being excellent options. They only want the business in my wife's name for 4-5 months until they are out of the franchise contract and that we would not have to do anything or spend anything.

I am wondering if this makes sense, and whether or not there are any potential ramifications for my wife and I? We are supposed to meet with their lawyer but I am wondering if we should be getting our own lawyer for this to avoid their lawyer having a conflict of interest? Are there going to be any tax implications for my wife? What happens if they go bankrupt in that time? What questions should we be asking the lawyer?

Some details that may be important:

My in laws and their business are in a different province (NB and NS) than my wife and I.

My wife is self-employed as a writer but is not incorporated as she doesn't reach the $30k threshold.

Thanks in advance. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Can my company require me to pay for and receive mandatory training off the clock?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:11 AM PDT

I recently started work in the front office of a Physical Therapy company and they've just told me I have to get CPR certified for the job. However, they require me to pay for it myself (which is over 100$ in my area) and they don't pay me for time in the training. I was under the impression that mandatory training meant that the company both had to pay for my training and pay me for my training time, at least that's how it's been at past employers. Is there some sort of exemption since it's a medical job or is this illegal?

Edit: I'm in Texas. I already have the job, and now they're telling me I have to get the certification.

Psych Hospital won't let me leave unless I call my mom (MA)

    Posted: 04 May 2018 06:04 PM PDT

I'm a 23 y.o female. On April 19th I went to the emergency room and told them I felt very depressed and wanted to die. I was going through a bad break up, had been let go from my job, as well as ongoing health issues that make life a little bit harder than it needs to be.

They kept me for 12 hours and then asked me if I wanted to voluntarily check myself in to a partner psych hospital. I said yes. When I was at the registration, the kind lady asked how long I planned on staying and I said the weekend. I'm pretty sure I wrote the dates I planned on leaving on the forms.

I've been here for two weeks now and while I showed signs of improvement (taking showers, eating, talking to the doctors, etc) they won't let me check out. I am grateful for the help they gave me, but apparently they called my mother without my permission (who I do not have a good relationship) and said that if I want to leave I must call her in front of them. I don't want to call her at all. And how will calling her suddenly cure my depression?

What can I do? This is stressing me out, I just want to go back to my home but they won't let me leave.

I also asked to see a doctor (I have aplastic anemia from bacterial meningitis a few months earlier) and they said he's not around and they won't take me to a medical hospital.

For anyone curious, we're allowed to use our phones. Just no pictures and we have to use the charging port.

I'm not fighting with them. I have formed good relationships with all the staff, and have always showed respect. It's not fair how I'm being treated.

    Thank you for reading

Can my employer sue me for not cooperating after quitting?

    Posted: 04 May 2018 05:53 PM PDT

    Location: GA

Sorry this is a long story. Tl;dr at bottom

First off, I know anyone can sue anyone for anything, but I'm hoping to know if it is likely they will have a case

Backstory: I began working for the marketing team of a medium-sized business about 4 months ago. It looked like the perfect gig, and they made a lot of promises that fell through. They told me it would be strictly marketing and that my pay cut (about 20%) would be made up by bonuses within 3 months.

Within the first month, I realized it was not what they claimed it to be. They were basically wanting a team of 5 marketers to completely build a new division of the business from scratch, which was basically a digital agency where we built websites and social media/marketing for clients. I have a background in tech so I helped out since I'm a team player and built our "division" a website using hosting on my personal GoDaddy account as well as a number of auxiliary services. The going rate to hire someone to do this in my area was about triple what I was making and I started raising questions.

When I quit, it was during a "progress meeting" with my boss in which he said I could be working much harder and that I was expendable and he could find a replacement for me in 2 minutes, so I told him that I wasn't getting paid to be a web developer, salesperson, marketer and tech support and quit on the spot.

I gave back all of the company equipment and data but the website was hosted on my personal account and was shut off when I stopped paying the bill. I should add that beyond my time, nobody else helped with it and nothing was paid for regarding the website by the company.

Now, about 2 weeks after quitting, they realized they don't know what they're doing and demanded I come in and teach them how to work all the services I set up and build them a new web site and they're threatening to sue me to pay to hire someone else to redo everything and teach them.

Now, I'm not trying to be vindictive and I gave back all of the company's data & IP, but I genuinely thought it wasn't my responsibility to continue paying for their website on my personal account. I didn't intentionally turn it off or do anything out of spite - beyond handing in my laptop and walking out

My question - will I be on the hook to pay someone to come teach them how to do all this and make a new website?

Tl;dr: quit my job after being forced to do tons of work well outside my scope/pay grade and build a website using my personal hosting account. I stopped paying the hosting bill after quitting so the website is gone and they don't know how to use the systems I set up so they're demanding I train them and pay for a new website

EDIT: I never signed a contract granting rights to any IP when I started. They asked me to but I refused. I think the route I'm going to go is to export an XML backup with nothing more than the words on all the pages and structure of the site but without any of the theme. Hosting costs were negligent (about $100 total) so I'm not gonna try and go after that. Will update

Advice regarding dealership mechanic dashcam recording

    Posted: 05 May 2018 06:03 AM PDT

    Location: European Union.

My car's been experiencing a steering wheel / right seat vibration around 80mph and I've kept trying for the past month to solve it.

Balanced the tires three times. Had alignment done. Replaced rotors / brakepads. Replaced all four tires. Still got the damn vibration.

After all these I decided to make an appointment with the dealership in my town for an inspection, to let the pros handle it. They inspected the car and took it for a testdrive. Finally they let me know nothing major is wrong with it and the vibration is caused by the right side CV axle tripod wear. They charged me for the inspection and I was on my way.

I found it weird for the CV axle to be problematic since it was not having any play when checked by hand. Since a CV axle is a major cost repair I decided before I replace that as a Hail Marry try replacing each tire individually with the spare, go for a test drive, replace another tire, and so on.

Turns on my front right wheel rim is slightly bent and that was what caused my vibration. This made me curious what the dealership mechanics experienced during the testdrive and I watched the dashcam recording.

The two guys doing the test drive kept mocking me for being anal about a mechanical vibration at 80mph during the test drive, how I waste their time with this while they could be making big bucks doing repairs. One of them repeatedly swore and kept calling me pejorative names. They reproduced the vibration but decided that basically it's bullshit, nothing wrong with the car and decided to blame it on the CV axle just to get rid of me (their own words). They even decided to charge me 150% of the inspection price for wasting their time. The price seemed a bit high but I didn't think any of it at the time.

TL;DR Took car experiencing steering wheel vibrations to dealership. They took car for test drive, dashcam caught them swearing and calling me pejorative names, deciding to blame it on CV axle to get rid of me and overcharge me 50%. I need advice on how to proceed about their behavior: disregarding a potentially serious mechanical issue that could cause other parts to wear and fail later on, utter disrespect for a paying customer and overcharging for an inspection.

I'm not sure about the legality of audio recording someone on a public road, in my private property, while I'm not present.

I own a home next to a church. People loiter on my property immediately after service. What if someone gets hurt?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 01:20 PM PDT

I live next door to the church in the suburbs of Philadelphia, which as far as I can tell, everyone is very pleasant and friendly.

I noticed today though, that immediately after service, people often loiter at the edge of our driveway, and sit or play on the stones that line the edge of the driveway on the property.

    A few questions:

If a kid were to slip and fall, would I be liable?

What's the best way to prevent an issue here before it happens?

I live across the street from child AND animal abuse, and the government will not intervene. I am literally lost as to what to do.

    Posted: 04 May 2018 07:47 PM PDT

I need advice, bad. I live in the San Fernando Valley outside L.A. The abuse started over a year ago. This woman who lives across the street from me in a condo leaves her windows open all the time. The reason she has to leave her windows open is because she's either running a puppy mill, a dog sitting business, or she just has a lot of dogs, but the entire neighborhood can hear these dogs day and night, and while most of the time it's just incessant constant barking, sometimes it sounds like the dogs are being abused physically. We aren't talking 3-5 dogs. We're talking 10-15 dogs in a ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT. If she were to close her windows, the apartment would quickly get too hot and stuffed up with all of the extra body heat and carbon dioxide being breathed by barking dogs. Thus, the perpetually open windows, and constant loud sounds.

I just lost my own 10 year old service dog the last week of February. The stress of this shit is driving me mad, and now, on top of loosing my own dog, I'm ready to snap. Normally, I would be the type of dude to just take my .45, kick a door down, and scare the life out of somebody inside before removing dogs myself, but... I'm trying to stick to the straight and narrow, and so I did everything by the numbers, and went through all of the proper legal channels, and it took months, but I eventually got a judge to sign an order saying the woman was not allowed to have dogs anymore for an entire year.

That period ends in less than thirty days from the date of this post, and Los Angeles Animal Control, nor the LAPD have made ANY ATTEMPT to actually enter the apartment and remove the dogs. Furthermore, I've only ever seen Animal Control here, and twice. Once, I met an officer here, and he straight up told me that he could hear dogs inside. On top of a no dog order, that should have been grounds for a warrant to be issued right there. The next time I spoke to the captain of the East Valley Animal Shelter & Control office, she told me the officer I met never reported hearing any dogs at the residence. This is the same officer who stood outside this woman's condo with me and heard the dogs barking from within. Animal Control claims to have been here many more times than that.

Worse, the Animal Control Officers found out after speaking to all of the neighbors that lived in the building that the woman physically abuses her children as well as the dogs that they hear, forcing the children to enter and exit the apartment through windows (It's a first floor condo), and they all told officials that she won't open the only door in and out of the unit for ANYONE, under any circumstances.

What I don't understand is, how if I had to go through multiple hearings, and a judge had to sign an order, and that order is being violated, and has been violated literally EVERY DAY since it was signed for a whole year, and I've routinely complained and stated that it's still going on and never stopped, how a judge has not signed off on a warrant yet, and why a unit has not arrived to enter the premises, arrest the woman, and remove her children and dogs.

I legit do not know what to do. I thought that doing the right thing, legally speaking, would be the best course of action here, but apparently nice guys do finish last. Suggestions?

Sister's car hit by a co-worker. She's beibg bullied to drop the case

    Posted: 05 May 2018 07:18 AM PDT

My sister's car was hit by her co-worker's car(she was in the car but her car wasn't moving). She didn't file a police report at the time but got a copy of the offender's DL and insurance. She has cctv footage

Now, though, it seems like said co-worker is bullying her to "just forget about it". I told her to just file a police report but she's adamant that she doesn't want to because it's a co-worker. She's telling me that a co-worker told her that she can just let her and the offender's insurance companies "sort it out on their own" and that she'll be fine without a police report as long as she sendsthe cctv footage to the insurance company.

Both of us are pretty new to the country (US) but this just doesn't sound right. I'm convinced that she should contact the police if the offender is trying to claim that he's not responsible.

Sorry if this is a question with an obvious answer, but tbh I still find the US legal system a bit intimidating and want to make sure my sister is doing the right thing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Needing to take meds at work, employer says it's not their responsibility to let me have access to them if they aren't on my persons.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 11:53 AM PDT

I'm in Texas. I have crohns disease and need to take meds for it, work is no longer allowing us to bring any purse into work and I was told they have no legal standing to allow me to do so. That's fine a huge pain in my ass but whatever. I brought up that I have meds I need to take and was told I can keep them in a clear ziploc bag in the office now that already seems like an eeoc violation but whatever makes them happy. To get to what pissed me off, I went in the office to take my meds and was told "see now you have to get a manager to open the door taking them away from customers" hmmmm...I didn't develope crohns to be a pain in your ass dude I just want to not shit myself. I'm looking for a specific ADA or EEOC article that I can direct them to. I'm a server btw idk if that makes a difference. And the bottles are huge I'm expected to keep them in my apron which is not feasible.
