First of all thank you for your time.

I do skull art, and I'm trying to sell my art on t-shirts, and posters. I've been working on my store since 2014. I have 200 to 500 likes and 2 or 4 comments at least per post. I sell around 2 or 3 items per month, even though I have my link, I showcase my products an all. What am I doing wrong?

Could anybody take a look at my stuff and tell you your insights? I have read, studied, modified many marketing strats but nothing.

I came here desperately in need of help. Thanks to you all.

Selling My Business - New Owner Claims That He Is Entitled To My Lease Deposit???

    Posted: 30 May 2018 09:30 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

So I'm getting close to wrapping up on selling my first small business (retail store) hopefully by Friday of this week. My lease is actually going to expire at the end of July so per the lease contract I'm required to pay a $1,000 transfer fee if the business is bought out. I know I'm liable for that fee since it's my responsibility, however, the buyer is trying to convince me that he's entitled to receiving my lease deposit as part of the business purchase. Obviously, I feel that's an absurd thing to demand considering that was my personal money that I'm entitled to receiving back at the end of my term. I told the buyer that he may as well be taking money out of my bank account but he insists that he's bought and sold many businesses before and that he's never received his own lease deposits from buyers upon sale.

He is purchasing my LLC, asset, and inventory, customers, etc. with the sale. The landlord is requiring him to sign a new 3-year lease for the space. Am I correct that the deposit I paid at the beginning of my lease is my entitlement or is he entitled to it by taking over my company?

Thanks in advance for anyone's input!

Advice for new small business in michigan

    Posted: 30 May 2018 06:50 PM PDT

I finally formed my LLC. Currently have myself, and 3 employees (not on paper, but ready to go anytime.)

It's a non-emergency medical transportation company. I just filed for the federal and state taxi/limousine licenses. I just have a few quick questions, I'm in need of all the advice I can get.

1.) What's the best insurance company (bang for the buck) for workmans comp, etc. I was thinking about getting it through the auto insurance provider (as soon as I find a company that will insure nemt in michigan)

2.) Suggestions for payroll services? Gusto looks promising, but again, I'm looking for suggestions.

3.) Accounting software? Default quickbooks or no?

Any other advice would be great! This is my first time starting my own business (WHOOP WHOOP!!)

Moving and selling or liquidation ?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 10:46 PM PDT

I have a grooming, dog daycare and pet supplies store. My lease was up in April and the landlord increases my rent by 30% . I said fuck it, that's too much money, no way I can afford it. Plus i don't want to do daycare anymore. I want to do my grooming dogs, get in and get out. So I've actually found another suitable place about 5 minutes away with lower rent, smaller space and perfect for grooming and a tiny bit of retail for treats and shampoo, etc.

I can technically move into the new space any time. But I need to notify my daycare clients that they will need to find another daycare for their dogs. So as a courtesy, I think that I will give them until end of July. And also give them free daycare days. Ok, great.

So now, I hate having to go through liquidation and having to get rid of everything in the shop. I am hoping that someone would buy the retail inventory and my daycare clients. I am pricing it so low just so I don't have to liquidate and I don't have to deal with it. I totally understand that whoever that buys it is a chum but it's just doing business. I also want to keep the name of the shop. Do you think this is too much of a sucker deal? Even if I price it low? In terms of numbers, if I can get 25k for it, I will take the cash over liquidating. Inventory alone is worth closer to 30k.

The challenge is the timeline. I would like to get out of here in two months. Do I try to sell all my inventory and at the SAME time try to nab a buyer? Or should I just commit one way?

Does anybody have any advice on liquidation process? What is the most efficient way to do this and to lower my costs?

Thanks everyone. Throwaway because I know it's not a great deal. :/

Having a bad week? How do you deal...

    Posted: 30 May 2018 05:11 AM PDT

So for a little context, I am a coffee roaster, and ordered more coffee over a week ago. The shipping company has taken a WEEK to get it to me (supposed to show up today) so I have run out of coffee, and it has become the busiest week of the year to this point. Then this morning one of my clients had a leak appear, my regular repair guy can't get there, so I am trying to find another to get the ASAP.

My wife is away for a few days, so I have time constraints as I deal with the kids, and i am feeling overwhelmed. After four years of running this business, I find myself stressed to the max, and wondering why I am still doing it. I know in a way it is just because this week is rough. How do you deal with a rough patch?

Scaling my Agency Business - how to automate?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 07:04 AM PDT

I have a webdesign and marketing agency business. I am struggling to find the right tools, which can help me to automate many tasks and let me scale my business.

I am currently using Trello and Planyway, which works fine to some level.

Let's say I get a new client. I would assign a pre-defined task list with many different tasks to this client. Basically I have a template and I use this template, whenever a client is booking a service. Different services, different templates. Usually I put all my clients in my "client board". If the client books multiple services, I will need an extra board for the client, so I can have multiple lists for this client. The task list for the client can have tasks, which will need to be done in months. So each tasks needs the right due date and assigned to a worker.

Let's say I have 4 clients, which booked multiple services. This would result already in a mess, because it's hard to track the tasks through the boards.

Does anyone have the same issue? Trello still works for me, but I can't see Trello working with have multiple longterm clients.

Can you recommend me something or share your own experience?

Looking for early adopters and feedback for our new b2c solution

    Posted: 30 May 2018 08:04 PM PDT

    Hi all!

We've been working on this b2c solution if you will which helps connect customers with businesses. In a nutshell it consists of an embedable contact form (can use your existing contact form) and a live chat script which is a small icon in the corner of your site. Similar solutions exist but they are more complex and costly.

Some of the pain points we are trying to eliminate with this:

    • Only a few website visitors are contacting you
    • Poor communication for website visitors (email is too slow)
    • Enough website traffic but low sales conversion rate (1 - 3%)
    • Increase in number of questions asked by website visitors
    • Recognition and remembering your return customers
    • Lack loyalty from online customers

We have a general idea of the direction we are headed but here's a great opportunity for someone to work with us more closely to better shape this software.

Please PM me or reply to this thread if you'd be interested, there's a questionnaire to fill out to identify some of the pain points that you or your customers are experiencing.

Acquiring a Small Business loan from a Bank

    Posted: 30 May 2018 08:03 PM PDT

In 2016 we posted a 70k (gross) year. Our first actual year in business, we net roughly 36k. All service based. We tried to get a 50k business loan mid way through 2017 to add some capital, for advertising purposes, software - things relevant to spending and helping us grow. Using our Profit and Loss statement mid-May YTD 2017 and our taxes from 2016, we got denied a loan from two local banks for a 5 year fixed rate.

For 2017, we posted 120k (gross) with 72k net. As of now, this year we've already done 70k gross and are at 52k net (reflected on our current Profit and Loss statement). We're on pace to double last year, considering end of June is the mid way point and we have a very nice June ahead of us.

My question, is it worth attempting the 50k loan again? My credit is over 700. Credit isn't an issue, both banks stated lack of cash flow was their reason for denial.

Looking for a little advice. I don't want to do a line of credit, because I want to make use of the 50k and pay it on a reliable schedule with a set pay off date.

    Thanks in advance.

    Partnerships with other business

    Posted: 30 May 2018 04:40 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Quit my job a few months ago to open a photo booth business with a friend.

We created this cool GIF booth for weddings but things have been slow. We were thinking to partner with other non-competing supplier (e.g florist, cake etc) to help boost our sale and our market presence.

But we are not sure how we should approach this partnership? Either we offer them cross-promoting their product in our newsletter or offer them a commission per every sale/lead they introduce to us.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys think :)

How to get in touch with AliExpress manufacturers?

Should i ask my landlord what the rent increase is going to be?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 10:38 AM PDT

Our lease is up for renewal in November 2019 but we have an opportunity to move to a much cooler location and building around that same time. Only thing is, it would be more rent than what we pay now. That being said, we're anticipating that our current landlord is going to increase our rent but we don't know by how much (no rules in our lease regarding increase) and if it's going to be a similar amount, we'd rather just move. Is it appropriate to ask him, this far out from the renewal date, what he thinks that increase is going to be?

Zips Dry Cleaning impact on business

    Posted: 30 May 2018 03:27 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I have been in this business for over 30 years in southern california. I saw this article the other day. Just for context, I charge 2.50 just for laundered shirts, this franchise will do ANY garment for 2.29.

    https://www.ocregister.com/2017/05/11/the-planet-fitness-of-dry-cleaners-zips-to-open-110-locations-in-southern-california/

Interesting concept, but the sheer amount of volume needed to make any money using this business model boggles me. Upon further googling, Zips claims that each store does on average 1 million dollars in revenue. That would mean they need to do about 444444 pieces per year. The amount of labor involved cleaning, and pressing that kind of volume would eat away at your margins. Thats before even taking into account the 10% taken off gross as royalties. I currently do about 720k in sales and average about a 40% margin (with me working day to day, and 7 total employees at 2 locations). I can't see how even a 10% margin is possible using this model (100k net on 1 million dollars sales). Even so, they want to open up 110 locations in SOCAL, and there are currently over 80 locations in other states, so something must be working.

What am i missing? Am I just behind on the times, and not ready to accept that this is possible? Will this really be disruptive in your opinion?

    Credit card fraud via stripe.

    Posted: 30 May 2018 04:42 PM PDT

I had a very large order come through the website. I was excited and being the generous sort of dude I am I also added a heap of extras and posted it out express post insured. Now stripe tells me that its fraud and the bank wants their $ back.

Fair enough if that is the case(which I strongly believe it is not). If the dude had his card taken then the bank should cover that loss as their system allowed the fraudulent transaction.

BUT, I'm not a thief, and I didn't do anything wrong, so how come it is me that loses big time, both all the items I sent, and now the total order cost plus extra stripe fees too? I did send the stuff, plus heaps of freebies, and the tracking shows that it was collected.

I have submitted my evidence and read through the info provided and it looks like unless I can get the buyer to withdraw their claim I am sweet out of luck, regardless? Opinions and advice wanted.

How do I stop weird people (probably scammers) from saying they “work @ my business” on their Facebook profiles?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 04:05 PM PDT

TLDR: Random-ass foreign people listing my small USA business page in their personal Facebook employment section w/ totally made up job titles. Probably scam profiles. How do I stop this?

Okay so on my personal profile it says "owner of my company." Let's call it ABC Company in Small Town USA. There's a text link that says something like "See other ppl who work @ ABC Company."

So I was bored the other day and click it. I expect to see a handful of my friends and employees. But instead, there's like 100 people from Kenya and other weird countries saying they work at my business on their facebooks under the employment section.

Im assuming it links into my official business page as well. Thanks for the feee promotion guys but we don't have engineer managers and vehicle fleet specialists that operate in random 3rd world countries!

What is going on here and how do I fix it? Are they just bored & think it's funny, or trying to make bs scammer profiles look real? Lol

Some are even listing that they live in my small town USA, but then they also go to the University of Narwobi and stuff like that, so it's very obvious they do not live in the US.

What's the deal here?! Anyone else have this happen? I know a lot about social and how to use it, but this one is new to me!

    Credit card fraud?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 03:14 PM PDT

I run a small business and use Square. I got a dispute notice for a recent credit card charge with the reason being, "customer does not recognize charge". It definitely is a legitimate customer and charge, so I call up the customer. No answer. I email the customer to let her know the charge she's disputing is from me, and reminded her of the purchase details. No reply.

So then I went through the dispute process and provided my proof and everything. It got rejected and the money was refunded.

I have no idea why. I was given no details or a chance to respond. I don't know why my proof wasn't sufficient. Nothing.

The charge was keyed in manually because the mag strip wasn't working. Checked the customer's ID and it matched the cc name. I don't know if this could be considered fraud. Could it be a fake ID, fake cc? Or could it really be the customer's card, but she is fraudulently disputing the charge?

Not sure how what to do with this one. I feel like I should report to the police...

    Any advice would be appreciated.
