Posted: 06 May 2018 06:30 PM PDT Hello everyone, On May 17th I'm going to Tennessee to help my girlfriend move up here to Pennsylvania. She currently has a car, but it's in her dad's name and thus the insurance is as well. Her dad is going to sign the car over to her in the next few days, which means she also needs to get her own insurance plan instead of paying her dad. I'm a little confused about what to do here, because she will be moving immediately after getting the insurance plan, and the rates are drastically different between her zip code and mine. (way cheaper for her zip code) If she sets up her insurance based on her current address in Tennessee will that cause issues if she's in an accident up here in Pennsylvania? Should she use my address as her home address when signing up instead? It's pretty simple to an insurance expert I'm sure, but I have no idea what to do. Thanks, Alec [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 May 2018 07:26 PM PDT This lady was making a left into the gas station and my cousin and I was traveling north and she cut me off. I hit my brakes but couldn't avoid hitting her on the back edge of her car. The airbags deployed and when we came to a stop after we asked each other were we ok. We got out of the car and went to check on her. She was saying how she was so sorry and that she had insurance. And I thought to go get my phone and cut on my flashers so I walked back to my car. And I was looking for my cellphone and flashers and another car smashed into the back of my car. The guy who was driving got out as I was in shock and was walking back to my cousin and when I made it back the lady from the car that hit me was on the drivers side and the guy was on the passenger side like he wasn't driving. I took an ambulance ride to the hospital complaining of back, neck and side pain but my ankle was swollen. They took us to the hospital my cousin said he has knee pain. And they checked us out prescribed us some Tylenol and released us in the morning. I went to get as much as possible out of my car and it's a mess. I have to get to school soon and I'm in-between jobs so I'm confused about what's next but I already filed a claim but my insurance company is closed Sunday. [link] [comments] |
Experiences with rental car insurance? Posted: 06 May 2018 03:20 PM PDT I am going to rent a car for about a month soon. I do not have my own vehicle so I don't have my own personal auto insurance policy. I have a chase sapphire credit card so that covers the car insurance, however I still need liability insurance for damage done to others. If I take the rental company's liability insurance for the whole month, the insurance alone comes out to be way more expensive than the rental. I've heard that some companies do offer non-owners liability insurance for rental cars. Has anyone here been in a similar situation as mine, and has purchased a non-owners liability insurance policy? How was your experience and roughly how much did the policy cost? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Might have cancer - need life insurance but not sure where to start (Virginia) Posted: 06 May 2018 04:43 AM PDT I am getting a biopsy done on Tuesday and my doctors have me feeling very nervous about the results. I am a married SAHM to one son and pregnant with another baby coming in August. Of course, I am thinking worst case scenario at this point and want my husband and kids to be okay if the diagnosis is terminal (I am in charge of all of our budgets/finances). What are my options if a cancer diagnosis might be happening in the upcoming week or so? We owe about 380,000 on our house (we just bought it) and lord knows how much medical bills will turn out to be. Also - would I be able to cancel the plan if it turns out everything is completely fine? I have not much of an idea of how life insurance works as I've previously had it through an employer and haven't had to think about it much until now. Thank you for any input you have for me. Posted: 06 May 2018 02:42 PM PDT Hi r/insurance, First time poster here. I recently had my 2004 Pontiac GTO backed into while it was parked at my apartment. The carport roof was also damaged. Looks like a box truck (uhaul style) backed into it since the dent on the car is from a low step bumper and the roof (10'+ tall) was damaged. I'm in Texas and my insurer is Geico. I have full coverage. No accidents or speeding tickets in 10 years. Been with Geico for 3 years. So far I've asked the apartment for any info. They do not have surveillance cameras or any record of a move in/move out adjacent to my car. They'll send an email to residents to see if anyone has info. But, they don't really care, so I don't expect much help. I'll likely pay $250 for my deductible since this event qualifies for uninsured motorist. I've also filed a police report which is for a hit and run. I'm requesting a copy of it to submit to my insurance company. The police offered to question people if any compelling info comes forward. Lastly I made a claim and am choosing a shop of my choice (non-autoxpress). Inspection is this Friday and I will likely take my vehicle into the shop on Friday as well. I am 100% sure the damage will be in the $1500-4000 range since the bumper, fender and headlight are damaged and it'll need a paint blend. So a claim is necessary/beneficial for me. Had a similar situation happen before with my old Honda and repairs totalled $2500. Does anyone have additional advice for me in this situation? I'm worried about getting dropped from my insurance since Geico does have a reputation for not renewing people who file a claim. This is a not at fault accident but I'm still worried. The rate I get is pretty good compared to other companies. Can I specifically ask for only OEM parts? I've had OEM equivalent parts installed before and they were sub par. Also, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to post a $250 reward for info leading to an arrest. My thought process is that $250 in reward money could bring someone to justice (misdemeanor) while having me spend the same amount of money in the long run. The $250 is a sunk cost at this point. I have mixed feelings about this since I'm worried about retaliation. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Is there any insurance that can protect me in this situation? Posted: 06 May 2018 01:02 PM PDT I am a statistics professor and have academic tenure. I work at a Mormon teaching university that frowns on research, so unfortunately essentially tenure means nothing as faculty have been fired for "offenses" like smoking. If I lose tenure here, I will never be able to find an academic position elsewhere, given my age and research productivity. Is there any insurance that can protect me in the highly unlikely event I lose academic tenure? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 May 2018 06:48 AM PDT My wife and I are considering renting our 1br/1ba condo on Airbnb. One of the conditions for getting an Airbnb permit is that you have liability insurance of at least $1m. Our current policy has a limit of $300k. Do I just call the insurance company and say I want to raise coverage to $1m? Any idea how much that will cost? Right now we pay ~$500/year. [link] [comments] |
