When Carl Icahn was 'raiding' companies in the 80s, was he doing it on his own or with a firm? Posted: 08 May 2018 06:54 AM PDT Specifically when he purchased TWA, was he associated with a larger bank or fund? And was he using his own money? My understanding is Icahn Enterprises didn't really emerge until more recently and now his positions are through that, but correct me if that is not the case. [link] [comments]
(UK) Work experience in the financial sector? Posted: 08 May 2018 08:26 AM PDT I'm currently in Year 12 doing my A-levels: Economics, Computer Science and Physics, I'm predicted ABB. I'm really interested in finance and economics as a whole and I plan on starting my career in the financial industry. I know work experience for banks/financial institutions are extremely competitive and only the best of the best students can get in. Has anyone experienced any other ways of getting experience in this industry? I understand work experience like this mean doing menial task. Thanks. Posted: 08 May 2018 06:35 AM PDT So lately oil prices and such have been on the rise, this certainly looks very sustainable, measured and is consistent with the global recovery, rates rising again and the economy being on a bullish path. I remember a price of 80$/barrel being unthinkable in the eyes of many people just 1 year ago and so many people were bearish. So how far do you think this can continue until prices are "too high" in the time frame of lets say 5years? [link] [comments]
Continuing to network in the group after you submit an application? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:13 AM PDT Long story short: I have 3 contacts in a firm (real estate). I want the job, I reached out to them 1.5 weeks ago, after I applied they both replied. I then reached out to a guy in the same group, but different role, and said I recently applied, and wanted to know more about his experiences. Apparently it was a bad move? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 May 2018 06:10 AM PDT Hi, for university purposes I need a site or a database with financial market multiples i.e. P/E; PEG; Enterprise Value and so on. I know I can find all of these in sites like Reuters.com or Yahoo finance, but I need to know how the fundamentals (growth, earnings, risk, cash flows) and ratios are calculated, since main financial sites don't give this kind of info. Thanks in advance to everyone who can help! [link] [comments]
I want to learn Analytics in Finance but I don't know how Posted: 08 May 2018 05:17 AM PDT New to the subreddit here. I am doing online courses on Analytics and have done the following courses before in undergrad:
Im learning corporate finance to introduce myself to concepts of time value of money, stock valuation etc. What learning path should I take if I would want to do analytics with things such as financial modeling, predicting stock prices, fraud detection and algorithmic trading? Posted: 08 May 2018 03:58 AM PDT I am looking to put a small amount of money, no more than 100 bucks say, into high-risk-high-return shares that will probably fail but might grow 1000-fold if they do well, akin to buying a lottery ticket or betting on horses but hopefully with a much better 'odds x jackpot / bet size ratio', whatever this is called in finance. Because I am investing an amount of money that I am prepared to lose, and I want an all-or-nothing win/loss outcome, I will put all my cash into the single most promising investment rather than diversifying. What sort of shares should I be looking to buy for this? Bear in mind I have only a basic understanding of how the stock market works. [link] [comments]
