    thoughts on $HUBS?

    Posted: 04 May 2018 02:08 AM PDT

i think there's a ton of potential here - the platform is essentially a one-stop-shop for businesses to own their entire digital marketing division - from SEO to leads to email - through inbound marketing

they've been rolling out integrations with shopify and facebook workplace this past week & have been rolling out new features/products at a good pace. by focusing their platform on SMBs there's a pretty broad TAM on a global scale here for growth.

been trying to find some high-growth tech stocks that don't have an obscene market cap (yet) and i think there's a case to be made for these guys but i'd like to hear some opposing views before i dive in, especially given their debt and somewhat rocky financials. TIA

Dividend Aristocrat Cardinal Health (CAH) down 17% on earnings miss and lower guidance.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 07:34 AM PDT

Revenue growth was actually a beat but there was significant earnings pressure from underperforming unit. Seems like a temporary speed bump to me. Now yielding 3.4% which is pretty high for them. Possibly even more interesting is that McKesson ($MCK) is down 6% as a reaction but obviously doesn't have that same underperforming business unit. The other of the big 3 drug makers ($ABC) posted a beat on Q1 earnings. McKesson reports later this month.

What is the best historical comparison, theoretically speaking, for Bitcoin's meteoric rise / 'bubble'

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:43 PM PDT

In some senses, Bitcoin is unique within the historical perspective. That is to say, cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology is different from anything that existed before.

But in another sense, Bitcoin is not unique. History is replete with fundamentally new things coming market. Amazon as an exclusively online retailer was new in this sense when it came about. Microsoft as an operating system could be said to have been new in a similar way when it came about.

Is there a good historical comparison for the meteoric rise of Bitcoin? Not something that was just once fundamentally new, but that has more compelling resonances with Bitcoin than simply being fundamentally new or a first-mover?

One could look at the NASDAQ (with focus on 1998-2002). But can the NASDAQ bubble be compellingly compared to Bitcoin, or are there reasons to believe that if Bitcoin is a bubble it is at least a different kind of bubble than that of the NASDAQ? Why or why not? Does NASDAQ being based on stocks which in turn are supported by a possibility of accessing collateral make it uncomparable, or not?

What would you say is the historic example of a bubble that can best be likened to Bitcoin?--and why do you think other potential candidates for comparison are less apt?

How can a country block the merger/takeover of two companies not based in it?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 12:21 PM PDT

Ie: how is China able to potentially block the takeover of NXP (Dutch) by Qualcomm(US)?

Is it just by saying they won't allow them to operate in their country if they go through with the deal?

    Benefits/disadvantages of using multiple robo-advisors?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 06:32 PM PDT

I have been using Robinhood for active trading and Betterment for passive investing. I've got a couple thousand in each, but I just found out about M1 Finance and it seems to be a quality service. My question is, if I start to use M1, should I try to consolidate my investments, or is having three active accounts fine? I read that Betterment charges no fees to transfer funds out, but Robinhood charges $75. Also, if I owned shares of the same stock in multiple accounts, is that an issue? Thanks, everybody!

How does a smart investor act during rising fed rates?

KKR to convert from a partnership to a corporation.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:25 AM PDT

    Forbes article

I have held this for awhile and was thinking about selling it when I saw it spike today because of the headache that the K-1 is for taxes. Seems I won't have to since they'll be a regular corporation now. Seems with the new tax codes they can save more as a corporation and they hope to attract more investors by not having to file with the K-1.

What are the risks of not diversifying your investments? How to avoid them?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:59 PM PDT

Please, excuse my non native English. I know the benefits of trying to acquire as much as possible of a good company that has its shares at a price below its actual market value (vide Warren Buffett). But what are the risks and can I prevent them, how?

Can someone help explain the drop on TMUS in reference to the Sprint merger talks and great Q1 results?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:42 PM PDT

I am fairly new to stock market investing, and began this year. I have quite a bit of T-Mobile stock, because I have been a customer for 10 years and have been a fan of the company for the entire time. I figured it would be a good long-term investment.

I am a bit confused as to the 13% drop in stock value in the last week since the attempted merger with Sprint was announced, and the Q1 earnings release. I listened to the Q1 earnings call, and everything seemed very positive and had a good outlook for the future, in my opinion.

So I guess, it is this merger with Sprint that is causing the drop in value of the stock, and reading online I can't seem to find an answer. Can someone better explain to me, maybe ELI5 or something? Would a merger dilute the stock value, combining the stock of both companies, and make it worth far less? How is a merger bad for stock value? Is it just people don't believe the merger will happen and are cashing out? Is it something else that I am just not understanding?

    Thank you in advance

Common Sense on Mutual Funds. I'm stupid, please help me calculate this math.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 09:27 PM PDT

    On page 53: https://i.imgur.com/PVtoIJ4.jpg

    His idea is:

For example, an initial dividend yield of, say, 3% plus a forecasted earnings growth of 7% annually over the next 10 years would bring the return to 10%.

A change in the price-earnings ratio-from, say 15 times at the beginning of the period to a forecasted 18 times at the end- would add 2 percentage points to that total, bringing the return on stocks to 12%.

    I'm thinking about:

    7+3=10.

    15 -> 18 = 20%.

    Then 10+20% = 12%.

But have a look at that image. I don't know how he calculated the P/E Effect number.

I tried but the numbers are totally different.

    Example:

    1940-1949:

    Open P/E is 13.9, and close P/E is 7.2.

How can he calculate the P/E Effect of that period is -6.3%?

    Please enlighten me.

Even Wall Street Couldn’t Protect Toms Shoes From Retail’s Storm

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:05 AM PDT

When are brands and even capital firms going to realize that you have to approach the market differently now?

The traditional route doesn't work anymore. Of course Wall street wouldn't be able to protect Toms from the Retail storm. What'd they expect more consumers to continously scoop up Tom's products? I wonder if Toms hit saturation and is going to level off or decline and then level off.

Can you trade stocks for other stocks directly?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 06:33 PM PDT

I'm talking about a direct exchange of stocks (no cash changing hands, only ownership of stocks), as you can imagine this is to avoid capital gains tax. Any input is appreciated!
