Posted: 27 Apr 2018 06:35 PM PDT I never really cared about money and pretty much always enjoyed living ultra frugally (less than 400 rent, homemade meals everyday). I'm laser focused on what I study/research in school, and I basically have no interest in the money I have acquired. I don't want to donate it to charity, because that would require the same amount of due diligence that investing it would require. At the end of my career though, I plan on donating everything I own to charity. What do I do with this money if it's probably more than I will make in the first 10-15 years of my career in engineering? I guess the only other thing to note is that I'm pretty paranoid about getting taken advantage of by bankers or money managers to the point where I have my guard up just walking into my local checking account bank's branch. Is there an option to deal with investing in a relatively automated way that isn't a total scam (massive fees or some shit like that), and that I can easily verify the legitimacy of (through reviews kinda like yelp or airbnb)? thanks! Where to invest if intelligent life is confirmed outside of our solar system? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:48 PM PDT First, I am asking this in a non-conspiracy, faith in science, type of way. Hypothetically, we receive and confirm a distant signal from another planet with intelligent life. It's going to change a lot, very quickly. Money, is going to start flowing like a broken dam somewhere. The question is, where? [link] [comments] |
Anyone here in (ticker: FUSEX) How do you like it? Good buy and hold? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:02 AM PDT Hoping to get a feel for it before I might buy. How long have you had it? Good returns? In your opinion, how does it compare to their other index funds? 6% turnover I imagine is pretty good for someone looking to buy an index that doesn't change much [link] [comments] |
Universal Central Bank Digital Currency Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:08 PM PDT https://www.moneyandbanking.com/commentary/2018/4/22/universal-central-bank-digital-currency Central banks issue digital currency already, of course, for the wholesale market. This articles gives an overview and discusses what retail central bank digital currency might look like. Imo this is where the real future of digital money is going to be. [link] [comments] |
Company gives me an ESPP and adds 15% to whatever I contribute... should I go for it? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:27 PM PDT So I work for a Fortune 500 company that offers, among other things, an ESPP. It contributes 15% of whatever I contribute up to 15% of my pay. The stock is purchased monthly at whatever the closing price is at the end of the month, and my pay is biweekly. I'm thinking to immediately turn it around and sell the stock once I buy it (no minimum holding time). However, it's through etrade, and they charge a 14.95 brokerage fee for each sale or 0.05 dollars per stock, whichever is greater. (Stock is currently around $100 per share.) That would really add up if I sold each month. Are there any ways around this, other than holding for several months at a time to minimize the frequency of the fee? Edited for clarity [link] [comments] |
What to do after completing Khan Academy finance course? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 10:49 PM PDT Hi y'all. I was searching on how to get started in stocks and found many people recommending Khan academy finance course on old r/investing threads. I just finished it and wanted to know if you guys have any advice on how I should proceed forward? Do I directly jump into recommended classics like 'A random walk down the Wall Street', 'The intelligent investor'? What sources do you suggest? (Free ones would be good) Also, please note that I'm a HS student so I do not have any finance background. Thanks a ton! Edit: Corrected book's name. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:55 PM PDT I was thinking about certain companies that have raised prices and have still attracted more customers or at least kept their customer base. You have Amazon recently increasing the Prime membership price, Apple with the iPhone X, Coke with small increases every year, and Sees Candies every year after Christmas. Any other ones that come to mind? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Apr 2018 01:00 AM PDT What usually happens to a company's share price directly after a rights offer. Once the rights have been allocated, assuming full acceptance, does the market price usually drop to around the same price as the discounted rights issue price? [link] [comments] |
Diversification Allocations? 26 year old 95,000 in savings Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:14 PM PDT Looking for recommendations for how I should diversify my porfolio. Looking to divide it up between index funds, equities, cash, and crypto. I'm not very risk averse. Thanks for any opinions! [link] [comments] |
Why aren't people more pessimistic about TSLA? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:14 PM PDT TSLA has roughly $24bil in debt, $4.2bil in equity, and lost $1.9 bil last year. If this were a private company, you'd probably be contemplating bankruptcy. The reason tesla is alive at all is because investors keep pouring in money for the company to incinerate - its quite hard to go broke when you have unlimited access to dumb money. Unless TSLA is turning a profit, buying tesla at the current price seems like financial suicide. [link] [comments] |

What is a fair price for gold? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:39 PM PDT I saw this poll and it made me think.... https://twitter.com/Safehaven_News/status/989914609904766976 As national debt continues to soar, the dollar will lose value and empower gold...but how high could it really go? Collecting rents via apps/software Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:08 PM PDT Currently have just 1 rental and looking for others. Right now I pick up the rent check just to check on the house and ensure I get a check in hand on the 1st. I am looking to automate this and collect rent in an app like cozy or dwolla. Trying to implement systems to get more organized and save time. Does anyone have any advice on what software or application to manage rental portfolios and/or collect rent? [link] [comments] |

Serious question: leave my investments in robinhood, or transfer everything to my IRA in schwab? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:46 PM PDT I have been investing with Robinhood since the beginning of the year. I've done pretty good, but I dont really swing trade, day trade, or sell anything. I picked a few positions to start, around 3000$ spread around shares of BRK.B, MSFT, CSCO, INTEL, and GAIN. I just let them sit and grow, hold their dividends and deposit more to purchase another share. I dont plan on touching any of this money for a long time, and every paycheck I put another 300 into it. I'm thinking about joining another sector and focus on shares in the Financial area... But here's my question.. Should I withdrawal all the money, and just purchase the same shares in my Contributory Schwab IRA?? Since I dont use Robinhood for trading as much as its supposed to, I feel like the only thing I am saving is the commission fees on trades. But If I hold these shares for years and years...a small trade commission wont matter 20 years from now. I just feel like, its safer, and easier to setup with dividend and capital gain reinvestment... Any thoughts? Also, if anyone is familiar with Schwab and their dividends. If I choose to NOT reinvest dividends, how are they paid? Just added as cash to my portfolio, or to my bank account? Thanks for any input. [link] [comments] |
Sort of random, but I though this community may be useful. Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:33 PM PDT Found $500 of savings bonds ironically in a used "Investing" book at Half Priced Books. Easiest way to track the owner down? The name is pretty generic (I.e. John Smith) so not having luck finding what I'm looking for online. Bonds are also from 1988, so I guess it's possible the owner may not live anywhere nearby anymore. [link] [comments] |
How do I go about vetting a company stock? Posted: 27 Apr 2018 10:42 AM PDT I have a statistics background, but no background in business. How would I go about researching whether a particular company is a sound business and a worthy investment? Any references/guides for a novice? For example, what about, say, NFLX do you look at when you are considering investing a considerable amount (>10k)? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:57 AM PDT Nope. The market does not seem to appreciate this. I expected this three (or four) pronged spear of glory to rally the markets. I see a do-nothing day. Any opinions on this? Was one green day this week (yesterday) the limit? [link] [comments] |
