Accidentally made an insanely good lip balm. Everyone's telling me to sell it, but not sure how.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:09 PM PDT

So, this lip balm really is the shit. Even my therapist tells me it's the best she's ever used. People are telling me I should sell it. I like the idea of that, but I'm a teacher and don't really have the time to be setting up stalls at craft fairs every weekend - I would want to get it in stores if I sell it at all. Is this realistic? And how do I do that? I have already designed a badass label, brand, spiel, logo, etc. that everyone is wetting themselves over. Thanks for checking out my post!

UPDATE: I am overwhelmed (in a good way!) by the genuine feedback and responses. I'm at work right now but will get back to everyone this weekend - thank you for sharing your insights with me - I'm super excited by this.

Print and packaging recommendation on alibaba

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 10:14 AM PDT

Hi all, Does anyone have any experience working with a print and packaging supplier on Alibaba.com. The amount of choices on that site is a bit of a nightmare to go through so I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone has any positive experiences and recommendations on any particular suppliers on there. Or, if you have any recommendations on suppliers NOT on alibaba.com, those are welcome as well. Thank you.

Roast my website and get some free test ETH

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 05:59 AM PDT

The site is a Danish Ethereum-broker where people can buy and sell ETH for FIAT in a matter of minutes. It's still in early Alpha so there's no real money involved at this point (only Kovan Testnet Ether). Submit an order and press the red button to receive some Testnet ETH.

I'm not an experienced web designer, nor am I a professional developer, like some of you guys, so would love to hear your opinion on the site.

    Here it is.

Apologies for the gutterspeak, Google translate is your friend. You might get some funny translations.

This company makes billions from building knock-off companies across the world.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:38 PM PDT

    FULL STORY: https://www.ceros.com/originals/bootleg-billionaires/

Founded in 2007, Rocket Internet responds to entrepreneurial originality with near-instantaneous mimicry: Show them a viable American business model and in due time, a boiler room full of coders will reverse engineer a knock-off. It's a process that has spawned more than a hundred companies around the world.

DID YOU KNOW: Before Hello Fresh became a global food-delivery service, it started off as Rocket's copy of Blue Apron. Hello Fresh is among 100+ companies that Rocket has spawned since 2007.

Known as the "clone kings," brothers Marc, Alexander and Oliver Samwer have made billions with companies like Alando, an eBay lookalike launched in 1999 that, two months later, was acquired by eBay for $40 million. And in what became a lucrative tactic of knocking off—then being acquired by—the originators, they sold their own eDarling to a dating site you might have heard of, eHarmony. The Samwers have aped hundreds of companies—as Bloomberg put it, "churning out copy cat start-ups"—as they've sold off an empire of clones.

Buying a house and transforming it into an "Entrepreneur house"...

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:13 AM PDT

    Hi!

I'm 22 and so far have had 1 successful startup that was acquired, and with that, I have plenty of cash that I don't know what to do with.

Over the past few months I've started to realize that the people I surround myself with have a huge impact on how motivated I am to take myself to the next level personally and in my career.

My lease ends in 4 months, and thinking about where I want to be/live next is difficult. Especially since I don't want to live alone just yet.

With that being said, I've identified a house in a somewhat large city (290K population) which is 5bd, 4ba, newly renovated with a wonderful backyard, and 2,877 sqft.. all for $220k.

So what I'm thinking of doing, is renting out 4 bedrooms to serious entrepreneurs and charging $700/mo in rent and in return they get high speed internet, free coffee/tea, free weekly cleaning service, a room to sleep and a common area for working with white boards, desks, cool furniture etc..

It would be a really cool space and a place where like-minded people/entrepreneurs can live together and grow.

The numbers are very favorable as far as I can tell:

    4 bedrooms at $700 = $2,800/month

I've read that my state offers 3.5% down-payments for new home buyers so I'd have to pay $8,000 upfront with a mortgage of $1,400/month

    Free coffee/tea, internet, cleaning = ~$550/month

Whiteboards, desks, cool furniture = ~$3,500

    So overall:

    Income: $2800/month

    Upfront costs: $11,500

    Mortgage + services: $1,950/month

    Profit: $850/month

Break even timeframe: ~13 months + I personally wouldn't be paying rent so I save money there, secondly I'd essentially be getting a house for "free", and thirdly, there is so much space in the house that I am convinced I could create another bedroom and charge $650/month instead of $700/month so that would be $650*5 = $3,250 which is a lot more profit as well.

Sorry, this is a long post. But do my numbers sound accurate? Is this a good idea for a 22 year old? I'd love your thoughts! Thank you!

Finishing university and not sure if I want to work in my field or to continue my dad's business

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:23 PM PDT

    Hello!

As context, I'm an electrical engineering student currently working on my bachelor thesis. Also, my dad owns a business that process flat glass by doing cuts, shapes, etc. with the majority of the process automatized.

So, I'm struggling of what to do... I enjoy both things, I was a good student and built great relationships at Uni and also I've been helping him since I was like 9 years old, doing simple stuff like cleaning, move small glasses, for example until now where I can apply something I learned while studying like fixing machines (VFDs, control and power wiring, etc).

At one hand, I (will) have this career where I can work in a field that I enjoy and probably will have a more relaxed life in comparison of being independent. However, in the hypothetical case I work with my father, I would have a business that it's already established and would continue my father's hard work.

Of course I don't expect to receive a final answer about this but I would love to read some recommendations or things to think about in order to clear my mind or to have a better understanding about what things I should consider to make this "decision".

    Thanks a lot!

The truth about why "gurus" sell you business courses.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:57 AM PDT

The self-proclaimed business gurus found mostly online who want to sell you their secrets via some book or seminar may have at one time or another did the things they are preaching themselves, but like all things, they dry up, and then, just like the old adage states, if you can't do (anymore)... teach!

I visit businesses and other organisations to train staff how to reduce stress using mindfulness and tai chi. I also run online mindfulness training workshops.

How can I scale this business?

Also, what are some great ways of helping entrepreneurs to reduce stress?

    Thanks in advance. :)

The Hard Truth - The Days of Earning Clicks are Coming to an End (With Data to Prove it)

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 11:49 AM PDT

All the juicy data can be found here: https://kolemcrae.com/no-more-clicks-makes-me-sad/

In summary though: Google is answering people's questions so you don't have to (err… can't.), Social is keeping people from going to your site and is becoming less and less effective and email is just getting less and less effective overall.

My personal thought to deal with this is here:

The more touch points the customer has with your brand, the less hard you have to fight to get that sale. Meaning you get more out of each one of those expensive clicks.

You need to get impressions with your core persona before they get to that ad that is now costing you more so that they have a much higher chance to actually get the sale when it happens.

What I'm saying is that clicks are going to continue to cost you more and more - make sure you get the most out of each one.

Have you been seeing the same thing? What are you doing to combat it?

Looking for a Partner who believes in Digital Marketing.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 11:23 AM PDT

Over the last six months I've been in complete control of a startup Natural Food Supermarkets Marketing Budget. After two months of running print ads it was obvious we weren't going to cut into the competitors market share quickly or easily.

This is when I turned to social media marketing and advertising. The outcome for the business was amazing. After seeing the results over the course of a few weeks I knew I was onto something. I continued to push the importance of my findings but wasn't supported by the owner.

This has led to my departure from the company. I now realize I can do far more for companies who believe in this relatively new marketing angle. I'm currently in the process of having an E-Book written but I want to do far more.

I'm hoping to to find a person or group of people who also have had success in digital marketing or would like to. My goal is to start an agency to help Local Businesses realize the same success I helped this Supermarket achieve.

Sorry for the lack of depth in this post, had to write it during the takeoff of my plane. Please feel free to PM me with more questions.

For any business owners, I would love to speak (for free) about the possibilities for your business. I am hoping to consult with a few businesses for free just to gain more insight into how my techniques work in other industries.

Thanks for your time, and thank you for reading this post.

Best of luck to all of you!

Any Suggestion for Mass Email Sending/Tracking Software?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 09:21 AM PDT

For my startup business, I am looking for a software to store customers' contacts, and bulk email sending/tracking. I need a software (one time payment not monthly charged) to install on my computer not an online service. BC, I like to own my database and have full control over it. Any suggestion about different software, their limitations, pricing,... ? Thanks for sharing your experience,

Closing a B2B Meeting For a Partnership. Whats the Best Approach

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:18 AM PDT

What's the best way to close a B2B meeting for a partnership.

Here's the scenario; As a company we already have a validated and proof of concept about a specific product.

However, we don't have enough financial, team and marketing resources to reach out to the customer.

What's the best approach to partner with an existing accomplished Business already in the same space with the resourcesto push it to their existing customers base.

I run a video production company, should I use a ratecard or is it detrimental to my business

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:11 AM PDT

I've been toying around with the idea of creating a ratecard, thinking it might help with building client trust and speed up the process of quoting for jobs but I've had some people advise me that it would confuse clients and make it easy for competitors to undercut us. What do you guys think?

How to tastefully put your logo on products?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 06:49 AM PDT

I'm in need of courses, articles or anything that can answer this question. I have a basic understanding of design principles and can tell when something is not well designed, but I'm unsure of where is the line between promotion and fashion is. For example, if a clothing company wanted to put a logo on a T-shirt and brand it that way (anything from Supreme-type to Lacoste-type logos), how would it make it look not like the promo T-shirt for a supermarket down the road? And not just T-shirts, but other stuff too. I hope some of you guys can help me with this.

Looking for some Amazon sellers who would like to use my machine learning app

    Posted: 27 Apr 2018 06:44 AM PDT

I have created a machine learning app that analyzes your orders and lets you know where to setup your warehouses.

It then connects your amazon account to 3pl warehouses to auto-fulfill all merchant orders from closest warehouse saving you shipping costs and time.

Our initial 3 customers had their sales rocket by 3x-10x in initial few weeks and I am looking to take on around 5 more Amazon FBM sellers. Free for a year if you provide me feedback (Warehouse& fulfilling costs you pay per use the 3pl directly)

Some screenshots of the app: How the 3pl system works: https://imgur.com/a/78gFlRC

    Major workflow: https://imgur.com/a/3vIKa

    Your thoughts/critiques/feedback appreciated
