To NDA or not to NDA, that is the question. Posted: 09 Mar 2018 06:54 PM PST I have a concept I am in the early stages of validating an app concept. I have been told by some people to protect the app concept by having a NDA signed when talking to potential technical co-founders or other people who have technical skills. I have also been told to not use an NDA because "ideas are a dime a dozen" and good developers wont want to sign it and assume it's not worth their time. So, do I use and NDA or skip it? My assumption is a developer could take the framework and run with it themselves because they have the technical abilities. Does this happen? Update: This is regarding sharing info with potential co-founders, not VC's [link] [comments] |
How could I find a co founder in my region? Posted: 09 Mar 2018 03:21 PM PST Hi. I'm from The Netherlands, living in the least populated region. I want to find a co founder/owner for my start up, but I have no clue how I could find one. Now I've read some stuff and some advise to either post an open job position or to go to any college/university and go to the department of your choice and start looking for people there. But are there any other good ways? Or could you tell me how you met your cofounder/owner? I really would love to hear more from others and I truly hope it can help me progress. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Where should I register my startup? Posted: 09 Mar 2018 11:40 PM PST I'm currently working on an entertainment studio that I want to move/run in the US. I'm currently living in South Africa, and planning on moving to the US in the future. That being said, at first, I won't have a physical space for the studio and it will basically 'exist' online. I've done research, but can't make up my mind about where it would be best to register the studio. I have the following options: 1. I can register the startup in the US, but it will be a bit of a challenge as I can't afford to visit and state where in the US the physical studio will be (probably Missouri). 2. I can register the startup in South Africa and then later on move it to the US. Biggest problem here is that it costs at least $500 000 to do so, as far as I could tell. So, should I register it in either one of the countries, as it won't have a physical space, but I still want to release content under the startup's name and have it legally protected? I don't have the best financial status at the moment, so I have to be careful about spending money unnecessarily. Tl;dr - Should I, as a South African citizen planning to move to the US, register my startup in the US or SA? Does it matter if the startup will function online instead of physically - will that affect where I have to register it? [link] [comments] |
What's the best way to design a signup workflow? Posted: 09 Mar 2018 03:02 PM PST What tools, techniques, or resources should I use to make sure my signup form isn't holding me back? Every web app out there does things a little differently. If I search, Google serves up a sea of clickbait, and it's difficult to know which tips are the real deal. How important are federated logins? How many fields is too many for a single step? Should I make the user leave the tab to verify their email? There's a lot of conflicting opinion out there. I know I should A/B test to find the answers specific for my application, but is there data good enough to use as a starting point? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Mar 2018 09:18 AM PST To all owners of a start up what is your advice for proposing a brand redesign to the owner? I was recently hired as the marketing manager for a financial advisor, the logo and website they currently have are not giving a very clean or trustworthy image. I have recently been given the task of pushing out marketing campaigns, however I feel the most important thing right now would be to work on the image and branding before trying to receive attention. Because they have been doing all their own marketing since I joined I worry they will be attached to what they have. Edit: thanks for the advice everyone, from what everyone says I think it's best I wait a little while before proposing a redesign. It's best I prove myself before pushing something like that. I may work on a few things for it, because I do enjoy design and hope to move towards a more visual focused position later in my career. but like some other people said I do want to get paid for my work and time as well. Until I get a go ahead that time could be better focused on studying something to use now. Great advice from everyone tho, and I really appreciate it. Whenever I am in the position to suggest something like this I should have the data and knowhow to back it up thanks to you all. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Mar 2018 07:26 AM PST I'd like to keep this vague, for various reasons, so I hope it's not too hard to follow along. I founded a business about a year and a half ago in a service-type industry. Our difference-maker is that we use a somewhat unique service model and a network of contractors in order to keep our process more efficient and affordable. We've always had aspirations of developing our model further by developing technology and this idea has grown into a concept for a full-blown SaaS that we feel could make a splash in our industry. We don't currently have anyone tech focused on our team – just sales, marketing, project management, etc. So we feel the smart thing to do is to bring in a tech advisor that can help us navigate the road to building this SaaS product. The idea would be for them to evaluate the concepts we've developed so far, give advice on the roadmap, identify stumbling blocks, and potentially help find a developer/CTO that could bring it to life (or possibly fill that role themselves). My questions are:
Any input is much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Find a developer or find an investor without a working MVP? Posted: 09 Mar 2018 09:48 AM PST Hi guys, thank you a lot for passing by! We're looking for advice. We got a pretty interesting idea going around and we're aiming to get 1000 positive responses + e-mails to our survey to validate the idea. We got one guy from marketing, graphic design and 2 guys with MBA. We're trying to find a developer now to make a working MVP. All we got right now is:
We're going to try to get followers in our social media too. What do you think is easier if we don't have enough resources? Find a developer to make the first MVP in exchange of company equity or find an investor without a working MVP to get resources and pay a developer? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
