Posted: 10 Mar 2018 05:05 PM PST I have been selling insurance for 5 years and every time I get a 16-20 year old that buys a brand new car (or Mom and Dad buys it) and is shocked to find that their insurance is going to be 1000 per month. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Mar 2018 03:35 AM PDT We have renters insurance that covers up to $20,000 personal property, $100,000 personal liability, $1,000 medical and $500 to others. What do I do next? I'm afraid my building is going to hit me with the costs even though it was their fault the pipe bursted. [link] [comments] |
Large Homeowners Loss - What now? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 05:43 AM PST My neighbor's 100 foot tree fell on my house in last week's storm. We've got a significant amount of damage to our roof/attic, a bedroom, two bathrooms and a garage. My initial adjuster came out Monday, said it was likely too big a claim for him and passed it off to a large loss adjuster for the insurance company (Travelers). She came out Thursday for her assessment. It appears that we'll need a new roof (not a resheathing but the whole thing torn off and rebuilt), new siding, a new garage and each of the affected rooms will need to be redone. I'm a first time homeowner so I'm at a little bit of a loss as to what happens next. The adjuster is working up the claim and I should have an initial amount in a week or so. My questions are: 1) Should I get a public adjuster to advocate on my behalf? Opinions seem mixed based on the handful of people I've spoken to. 2) Each of the initial contractors I've spoken with seems to want to wait to see what the insurance company comes back with. This seems counter-intuitive, I want them to prepare a bid independently don't I? In my mind it's like walking into a car dealer and saying I've got $20k for a car, do you have any $20k cars...the answer is always yes. 3) What else should I be doing to advocate on my behalf? I'm concerned that we live in a high-cost area of NJ and the claim isn't going to come close to covering the damage. So far the insurance company has been reasonable, agreeing to pay $4k for getting the tree off the house and $1k for boarding/tarping ahead of the Nor'easter we had Wednesday. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading! [link] [comments] |
What To Do After Claim Denial? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 09:42 PM PST Last December, I hit a monster of a pothole that ended up damaging the TPMS sensor, strut, and caused my tire to lose air. My vehicle is a Audi with an air suspension setup. It was reported to my insurance company, who sent me to a bodyshop. I told them the damage was not visible from the outside, but they insisted. I went to the shop, and they said the same thing that I did and recommended I get a mechanical inspection. Fast forward a month, and my appointment for the second inspection arrived. The dealership that I brought the vehicle to found that my front, right air strut had developed a leak. As a result, the air compressor was failing now as well due to overworking to compensate for the leak. All of the information was forwarded to the insurance company. They then decided they wanted an adjuster to look at it again, so I met with one. He took pictures of the exterior, like the first body shop did, and put together an estimate based off of what he was told by the dealership that did the second inspection. Two weeks passed, and I heard nothing. I called a few times, and they said "just a few more days". Then, I get an email saying that my claim was denied with no explanation. I call the rep that was assigned to me, who forwarded me to the head claims specialist. He stated that the claim was denied because he believed the strut damage was wear and tear. I argued my case with him, and he agreed to re-examine everything. Today, I received another email saying they would not be changing their decision. Do I have any other options here? I am now stuck with footing a nearly $4000 repair bill, which is not entirely feasible for me. They offered NO reasoning behind their belief that the wear and tear coincided with my accident. I had zero issues with anything prior to hitting that pothole. [link] [comments] |

Blamed for Accident Back in August Posted: 10 Mar 2018 11:24 AM PST I had a car accident back in August. Some girl pulled out of the adjacent lane in the parking lot and turned my way. I pulled out a little after she did. She was about 30-40 feet away at 10-15 mph when I came to a complete stop. She made no attempt to stop or avoid me. I claimed a blind corner on this one with no road markings or safety precautions present. She said to me that she was reaching down to grab her cell phone off the floor. I believe she left out that detail out when she made her statement. Now my insurance is blaming me and my rates are higher. What should I do to counter this? Can they get a statement from her specifically about her distracted driving? Her phone records should show a long phone call with her dad that ended immediately before the accident. Posted: 10 Mar 2018 12:51 PM PST Hi guys... What is the easiest way of getting insured for just a few days? All the sites I've found are are zero help and most just reroute me to a larger company. [link] [comments] |
Completely New to the World of House Insurance- Advice Needed! Posted: 10 Mar 2018 03:36 PM PST Hello! So I'm getting ready to repair and rent out a house I own now that my last tenant has left- only to find out that apparently I don't have any insurance on the property now (I'm in Texas, if that helps). So before I get started, I need to get the place insured. But I've never done this before and I have no idea where to even begin. I suppose my main questions are:
Also any general tips and advice would be really appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Backed up into friend's car - no damage done - how to claim? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 03:29 PM PST Hello r/insurance, I backed up into my buddy's SUV, causing a pretty huge dent in my car but no damage was done to his. He's not interested in any compensation and generally doesn't want to get involved. I was advised to say that I backed up into a pole when filing a claim, as it's pretty much the same difference. Does this seem silly? Also, this happened several months ago - but I am just now getting around to getting my car repaired. Will this be a factor in my claim? This is the first time I've dealt with an insurance claim so I'm pretty inexperienced here. Thank you so much for your advice! [link] [comments] |
I'm losing my insurance at the end of the month and need to find a plan that covers my medications. Posted: 10 Mar 2018 06:41 AM PST I realized a couple days ago that I would be losing my insurance at the end of the month because I'm turning 26 and have been riddled with anxiety trying to figure out which insurance plans I can even afford. I'm in college right now and work part-time, so I can't get insurance through my employer and all the plans I've even been able to find have astronomically high deductibles and provide minimal coverage. I have been treated for the last 10 years with a medication that is technically off-label for the chronic illness I have. The plan I'm on right now is barely affordable and doesn't fully cover most of what I need-- one of my medications is $150 a month and without insurance, I would have to pay $500 a month. I don't know what to do, or where to even start. The only option I can think of to even come close to being able to afford health insurance is to drop out of college. I feel stuck. Are there any plans that exist that could be affordable for someone in my situation? Should I just go into debt to get covered? [link] [comments] |
Post car accident preliminary inspection Posted: 10 Mar 2018 02:34 PM PST I was recently involved in a car accident where I was side swiped by another vehicle. I had a preliminary inspection done on my car at a collision center referred to me by my insurance provider. The inspection sheet lists various repairs totaling around $7000 that all seem to be related to exterior/cosmetic damages. After driving my car around for a bit, however, I noticed that the traction control light stays on, traction control feature (press break extra hard to prevent car from rolling down hill) doesn't work, and there is an unusual noise when driving. If I bring this up to my claims agent, should I be able to get my car reinspected and have the estimate more accurately reflect the damage? [link] [comments] |
Whats a cheap insurance for new drivers? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 10:21 AM PST I'm 20 and about to get insurance for a car I just purchased but I dont know whats a cheap insurance for me as I am a college student in Texas with only 1 ticket in all my years of driving. [link] [comments] |
State Farm spying on me. Who doesn't do this? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 01:37 PM PST State Farm creeped me out by sending me a message that they contacted a third party that had my car's mileage information and that I was over mileage for my insurance plan. Why didn't they just ask me for an odometer reading? I'd be willing to switch to a provider that doesn't do this if known. Or is this something they all do? [link] [comments] |
Deceased parent’s homeowners and auto insurance Posted: 10 Mar 2018 09:42 AM PST Homeowners and auto insurance are up this month. The home is unoccupied and we've been receiving conflicting advice. Some have told not to notify homeowners of this as they may cancel the policy and it would be difficult to find new insurance. We are going through probate and can't yet sell the house. We have access to the online statement and payment. Should we just pay both and not say anything to the insurance company? Or could we be in some kind of trouble for not notifying them that the home is unoccupied in case of a loss? [link] [comments] |
Personal injury claim from auto accident Posted: 10 Mar 2018 06:52 AM PST Hi! So, back in December my girlfriend was in auto accident, while driving my truck, where she was t-boned by a lady that ran a stop sign. Insurance company immediately called stating that it was their clients fault 100%. They were great about handling my vehicle claim including immediately giving me an upgraded rental car for the month it took them to cut me a check. They are however, being very slow about my girlfriends personal injury claim. I picked her up at the scene of the accident where she had declined medical treatment. Within half an hour or so she was in pain and within an hour it was extreme enough that she wanted to go to the ER(She never does to the Dr!). They did an x-ray and physical checkup and sent her on the way with pain medication and muscle relaxers citing soft-tissue injury to neck/back/arm. The next day her pain was so intense along with continued headaches, nausea and vomiting that she returned. They ordered and MRI and again stated it was just muscle strains. They gave her some narcotic pain medication, another muscle relaxer, and medicine for the nausea. It took approximately 3 weeks for her pain to fully subside during which time our Christmas vacation was effectively ruined by her injuries and the medication. Her total medical bills are around 10,000 and an additional 600 in lost wages (Would have been much higher but she had already put in for vacation time for Christmas). I'm preparing to write a demand letter to indicate what we find to be fair compensation and I'm unsure where I should be starting on the amount. Total damage to the truck was 17,000 so it wasn't a minor impact. Does it matter that the vacation was entirely ruined and that her paid time-off from work was wasted by her inability to enjoy it from the injuries? Does it matter than the majority of her medical bills were diagnostic? 2 Er visits, 2 follow ups with primary care. No chiropractors or anything like that. I could use some guidance! Geico insured vehicle on insured vehicle claim Posted: 09 Mar 2018 07:47 PM PST I was a idiot and backed into my own car and there is damage worthy of filing a claim to both. I'm insured with Geico and this will be my first claim with them. Am I going to owe my collision deductible on each, or only on the one that I was driving (the other was parked) [link] [comments] |
