2 accidents in the span of 30 minutes - am I at fault for both? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:12 AM PST So here is what happened. I was driving down a street last night while it was raining and ended up hitting a tree. The road conditions were not optimal but I'm 100% to blame. Luckily, everyone is okay and there was no property damage. Some people came out, called the cops, put up those hazard triangles around my car, and generally helped me out. The car itself was not drivable so I could not move it off to the side. It was raining horribly and the cops were taking their time so I decided to get in the back of my car for a few minutes just to dry off a little. Within 5 minutes of being inside the car, somebody else plows into it. Now, I did not think to put my hazards on because the street was well lit and there were already hazard triangles all around my car. In my mind it was a no brainer - the other driver was at fault. After speaking with a friend, however, I was told that the insurance company might say that I was creating a road hazard and blame me - that's making me nervous. Is that a probable or even a possible outcome? [link] [comments] |
Raised insurance premiums after a claim (Geico) Posted: 26 Feb 2018 12:32 AM PST I had a minor accident today; I hit a parked car so the fault is at me. My policy will not cover the broken parts of my car but will cover for the car had hit by my car, however, there's no damage but some little scratches on the plastic parts of that car. In the best scenario, the parked car's owner will not going to ask anything to my insurance but just close the claim; in that case, am I still have a chance of raised insurance premium? And as far as I know, the insurance premium won't be raised until the next renewal. This month (Feb 2018) is the end of my current 6-months period and I already renewed for another 6-month which is from March to September, so the insurance premiums' won't be raised until the September if I am correct? Considering job with reimbursement for insurance, how much should they cover? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 11:25 PM PST I currently have insurance through a low paying job I took while I'm between jobs in my field. I have interviewed with a company in my field (20 employees), however they don't currently offer insurance. When we discussed wages I didn't know they didn't provide insurance, they told me later and said if I get the job they will pay me extra each month to help with my premium, I need to look at the cost on the Marketplace and let them know how much more I expect. I just got married last fall so I'm not familiar with getting insurance for a family. I have also done a lot of work as a sub contractor. So I'm not really sure what the average insurance plan is for someone in my field and salary? My family includes my pregnant wife and stepson. I would be making $50k (pre insurance) with an IT company in Michigan. I read on a couple of websites that "The average small employer paid 61% of family plan premiums." So I am thinking I should pick a plan and ask them to cover about 61% of the monthly premium? However the prices and plans vary so much, I don't know what level a company is willing to pay for? I have been looking at gold and silver level plans. Would a PPO be acceptable or would most companies only offer an HMO? Can I look at the most expensive plans out there, or would most companies that offer insurance only offer the equivalent of one of the cheaper plans on the Marketplace? [link] [comments] |
CAR insurance for first time- advice please Posted: 25 Feb 2018 11:12 PM PST Hi everyone. I'm picking my used car from the dealer in two days. Few facts: My wife is on her mom's insurance and has no accidents for past 5 years, so good driving record. I, on the other hand, just got a license in 2017. I'm 26. I am thinking to get insurance for me now for the car and then to add my wife and her car to my account for insurance. Or, do you guys think i should go the other way, she gets insurance for her car, and then adds me and my car. Do you think because of her good driving history this will bring us a lower insurance bill or it doesn't matter ? [link] [comments] |
State Farm Homeowners Policy Change & Do I have the right coverage? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:58 PM PST I just received a 38-page copy of my State Farm Homeowners Policy along with 10 extra pages of changes (reductions, eliminations, expansions, etc.) and I'm realizing that I know very little about the coverage I have, what I should have, or if these policy changes are normal or if I'm losing something important. Question 1 - Did all State Farm homeowner's get updated with these changes at the same time? How can I tell if these are normal/minor updates that are needed over time vs. some major exclusion being added? Question 2 - Do I have the right coverage with State Farm? We have 5 policies right now: Two Auto Policies (same coverage):
$1,000,000 Umbrella Policy @ $212.00 Premium Personal Articles @ $60.00 Premium for (Jewelry - $5,000) Homeowners @ $2,020.00 Premium
Discounts for Home Alert, Utility Rating, Home/Auto and Claim Record Location: Suburb of St. Louis, MO. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:47 PM PST Coming to the conclusion of my workers comp case, wondering how I should proceed. The insurance care providers has released me on MMI with no stated PPI yet. I was doing physical therapy, but they stopped providing it stating I was at MMI. Therapy has been slow, but recently has been picking up progress for returning me to pre-accident condition. I have a couple of choices, which are to fight the MMI decision by seeing another Dr, at my own expense, for an independent medical examination. Normally, one would be provided for me, but my lawyer has advised since I ended employment, I am not entitled to one immediately without fighting for it, and I can't fight for it without another doctors recommendation. Or I could negotiate a settlement, and hoping it provides enough to continue physical therapy and cover my legal fees. In doing this I was told I could continue care under my own medical insurance, but my deductible is something around 3,000. I'm unsure of how to proceed, legal is advising me to settle now, but I'm not sure if that's what's best for me. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Insurance provider forgot to set up part of our policy Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:21 PM PST We moved back in November and I met with a new agent with the same insurance I had in my previous location. We set up the exact same policy - 2 cars and a renter's policy. I signed the papers and paid the initial payment there. In January I was changing my driver's license to my new state and went to print my renter's policy for proof of residence, but couldn't find it online. I emailed my agent and they sent me a proof of renter's insurance. Nothing else was ever said. Now all of a sudden for my March bill I notice my bill is almost $100 more than it has been. I look and there is a renter's policy plus a fee to bring my renter's current. No one has said anything to me and I am going to contact them, but I wanted to ask here first. I feel like if they made a mistake and forgot to add that policy at the time, I should not be responsible for the backpay. Is this reasonable? We are in Indiana, btw. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:57 PM PST So I'm looking to get my own first insurance plan. Did some quotes on Allstate, Statefarm, and Geico and they all. are around $160 for me, but progressive was $105. Sounds too good to be true.. Second question, Does it really matter which company I go with? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:38 PM PST Basically what the title says. I recently had scheduled surgery with a surgeon who is a participating provider with my insurance company (Anthem). While my surgeon got pre-approval from the company for the surgery, he arranged for a a non-participating neurosurgeon to participate in the surgery. Of course no one told me this, and now I'm looking at a $6000 bill. What options do I have do you think? [link] [comments] |
Out of Network Claim For BCBS Illinois Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:30 PM PST TL;DR: I need to submit a claim to cover emergency out-of-network treatment with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. Where can I find more information to arm myself with so that my claim is more likely to be accepted? Last week my girlfriend went to the urgent care center for a persistent, sharp abdominal pain. We went to UC because her emergency room copay was $1000 (it's a pretty shitty HMO). Urgent care referred us to an out-of-network doctor for a CT. A lot of things happened that didn't allow us to go to any in network doctors (her doctor was out, no appointments available, etc). But it was an emergency so we went anyway. It turns out she has a ruptured ovarian cyst, which isn't life-threatening (luckily). The issue is that the CT came with a $4800 price tag. But I know from pervious experience that the insurance company has to cover emergency treatment if a reasonable person believes their life is in danger. So I'm currently gathering information to submit a claim (and likely an appeal) for this treatment. I know the insurance world is all about the the right claim forms, the proper codes, and using the magic words. So before I submit this claim, where can I find more information about what our rights are and what they're legally supposed to cover? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Homeowners Claim involving damage to home and personal property. Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:26 AM PST Deck collapsed. Homeowners insurance covered it and sent a payment that was for the rebuilding of the deck minus the $2500 deductible . He asked me to send an inventory of any damaged property from the collapse. I did, waiting to hear back on the coverage of those items. My question. Will there be an additional separate $2500 deductible for the personal property? The total damages for personal property aren't much more than $2500. In Massachusetts. [link] [comments] |
Am I at fault for rear end accident. CA USA Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:20 PM PST Sorry in advance for the poor writing. Hey guys about a week ago i was involved in a accident where i hit someone from behind. I Went back to the scene of the accident and took measurements with a 300 foot measuring tape. I took video of that with evidence of where my car stopped after the accident. 37.648366, -122.450301 This is the intersection where the accident happened I was on Junipero Serra Blvd Heading south bound at 50 maybe 55 mph, the speed limit. When i was about 108 feet from the end of the intersection i saw a car turning left from arroyo dr. with a stop sign. starting to cross into my lane. He went straight to the left lane from the left turn. I hit my brakes as fast as i could and swerved but it wasnt enough and i struck the other car on the back right quarter panel with my front left side. My tire struck his and i caught some air and snapped my spindle. My car stoped 120 from the intersection and about 40-60 feet from where the collision occurred. I believe that he is at fault for failing to obey California Vehicle Code Section 21802 which is the right of way law. My insurance says that i am at fault because my was fully in my lane at the time of the accident and i failed to obey California Vehicle Code 21703. That is the law on following to closely to someone. How far past an intersection does someone have a right of way? He was driving a Dodge Challenger which has the power to pull into my lane very quickly. Is he not at fault for cutting me off at a distance where i would not be able to stop. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:02 AM PST How are they calculated? What is deemed a good and bad credit score for auto insurance, or does each insurance company go off of there own score? Is there anyway to improve it, or is it just through time and no claims? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 05:38 AM PST So yesterday night I was leaving a friend's house. It was dark and raining and I didn't see a black car parked behind me when I reversed. So as you can guess I hit the car, putting about a 3 inch vertical cut in the bumper with no other damage. Being honest I told the owner and she wants to claim it under my insurance. There was no bodily injury as no one was in her car. I'm 20 years old and have had my license for 2.5 years which a clean record I've only claimed one car because a basketball hoop fell on it which went under comprehensive coverage. I have old dominion insurance Co. Which I believe is owned by travelers. What I'm wondering is what I can expect as a hit to my insurance rate in the coming months. Also I've heard that my rate won't change until my policy renews next year is this true? Thanks for any responses. [link] [comments] |
